Description
The SB 16 soundbar is an elegant and simple alternative to complex home theater speaker system.Home theater installations typically involve five loudspeakers, a subwoofer or two, and lots and lots of speaker wire. Not every room can accommodate all that stuff, and not every homeowner wants to live with it. The harman kardon home cinema soundbar system offers an elegant and far simpler alternative: a single amplified loudspeaker unit connected directly to your television, DVD player or game console, and a single wireless subwoofer that you may place anywhere in the room.Offering traditional stereo playback or realistic 3-D surround sound processing, the SB 16 delivers true harman kardon performance with the absolute minimum number of components, and with no wires in (or out of) sight.

Harman Kardon SB 16
4 Star Review cnet.com - Mar 23, 2011

THE GOOD: The Harman Kardon SB 16 has excellent sound quality for a sound bar. Its exterior design is also a cut above budget sound bars, and its two digital audio inputs should be enough for basic home theaters. THE BAD: The subwoofers giant footprint may be too much for some buyers. The SB 16 also relies on your TVs remote to adjust volume, which may result in annoying onscreen messages on some HDTVs. And $600 for a sound bar is more than many are willing to spend. THE BOTTOM LINE: The Harman Kardon SB 16 features a premium price tag and some remote control quirks, but its excellent sound quality and exterior design make it worth the extra cash.

Harman Kardon SB 16
2 Star Review productwiki.com - Mar 24, 2011

The Harman Kardon SB 16 is a soundbar and subwoofer combination built to be directly connected to a TV. The 2.1 channel soundbar connects through an optical or coaxial digital input from the display, and sends a signal wirelessly to the subwoofer. The speakers in the bar are positioned to create a 3D virtual surround effect. The unit is compatible with most TV remotes, and enables the subwoofers volume, crossover and phase to be adjusted individually. While the soundbar can be rested in front of the TV below the screen, wall-mounting hardware is included. Both the soundbar and subwoofer feature magnetic shielding, minimizing interference from other devices and preventing the internal magnets from causing problems with other hardware. Features 2.1-channel soundbar speaker Wireless subwoofer 3-D virtual surround processing Optical and coaxial digital input connections Works with your TV remote Magnetically shielded speakers in the soundbar and subwoofer Dual-position EQ switch Soundbar trim ... PROS: (1) high quality design and solid build (2) great audio quality - a cut above most soundbars (3) clean, minimalist aesthetic (4) subwoofer is wireless - can be stored out of the way, with no ugly wires ... CONS: (1) very expensive for a soundbar (2) mostly made of plastic (3) no display to show what the volume level is set at (4) large subwoofer - defeats the purpose of getting a soundbar for many buyers (5) no included remote - designed to be compatible with your TV / receiver / universal remotes

Crutchfield has collected 15 user reviews for this product with an average rating of 4.5 out of 5 stars. The most recent reviewer said, "The wireless subwoofer is SUCH a sweet option! The sound from the bar is absolutely great. I listen to it in stereo and surround and both are very realistic and I don't feel like I'm missing out on 5.1. I like how I can hookup multiple devices to this so now I just use my TV as the switcher. Programming my remote to control it was so easy. I'm very pleased with this."
