Great Receiver

Strengths: Auto setup

Weakness: Large

I purchased this receiver for $336 which was a great value for what it includes. The auto setup is a breese and the menus look good. It is a bit large but so are most receivers of this quality.

Yamaha RX-V663

Strengths: True HD audio; HDMI 1.3

Weakness: none

This one of the best receivers you can buy for under 400. After doing a great deal of research and testing, I narrow it down to RX-V663 and RX-V861. The are both about the same price. I desided to go with the newer RX-V663 and was not disappointed at all. The 663 has a faster processor and uses the latest technology such as HDMI 1.3 for better picture and sound. I highly recommend this receiver,...

Great Value here....

Strengths: Price! Surround Sound decoding Sound Quality Inputs Flexibility HDMI v1.3 support Relatively small format and heat output Good manual and product support Tons of speaker support (even 9.1) Mu

Weakness: Only 2 HDMI inputs Clips WTW and BTB (technicality that does not affect most people). Possible HDMI handshaking issues with certain equipment. Global sub crossover setting (applies to all speakers)

Yamaha's newest mid-class receiver (Spring 2008). Plenty of reviews and tech info at avsforum.com Yamaha introduces a new level of features for a real low price. You see everyone else following suit now (onkyo, pioneer, denon). For me, I'm not the video/audio-phile, but been around enough to recognize quality. This thing is real easy to use, yet can be tweaked out if you feel the need. No it...

Great HD receiver!

Strengths: DTS-HD Master Audio and Dolby True HD processing. HDMI 1.3 inputs, 7.2 surround sound, and calibration options up the nose.

Weakness: Auto-calibrator a bit on the quiet side. Remote is kind of cheap. Only 2 HDMI inputs.

I upgraded my AV receiver from a Sony STR-DE845 last month to this RX-V663. I don't regret it at all. I got it on sale at 6ave.com for $360 and the price was too good to pass up. It comes with all the frills (except a 3rd HDMI input) including all the buzz words. The best part about the receiver is that Yamaha didn't skimp on the components. It's got Burr-Brown parts inside (which I've read are...

Excellent A/V Receiver

Strengths: Sound quality, Auto calibration to optimize each speaker Lots of options

Weakness: None

The receiver was very easy to set up and obtained excellent sound quality from my theater room. The receiver auto calibration feature was easy to use with the supplied microphone. The system automatically determines the optimal equalizer setting for each speaker, in my case 2 fronts, center, 2 surround backs, 2 surround sides, and a subwoofer based on the location of each speaker, the room...
