The Yamaha HTR-6090 is a high end HTR 6090 7.1x120W Digital Home Theater receiver released in 2005 and retails at $1,100. Its features are identical to that of the $100 cheaper Yamaha HTR-6080, but it also has 1080p compatible HDMI, high-definition video up-conversion, and de-interlacing. It also has Digital top-art, which more of a philosophy whose goal is to maximize digital quality while minimizing analog circuity. The other features it shares with the 6080 include Dolby Digital Pro Logic II decoding, DTS surround sound, XM ready, XMHD surround sound, Neural sound, 6 channel inputs, Cinema DSP digital, Silent Cinema, compressed music enhancer, scene and YPAO automatic system calibration. Features Full-featured 840-watt (120 watts x 7) 7.1-channel digital home theater receiver with ToP-ART amplifier HDMI and component video up-conversion for S-video and composite signals; XM satellite radio ready Assignable multi-zone control for multi-room speaker systems; jacks include 2 HDMI inputs and 6 digital audio inputs XM ... PROS: (1) setup is quick and obvious, easy enough for entry-level users (2) excellent channel separation, great for both music and movies (3) enough power to the speakers to fill a medium to large sized room (4) same specifications as the Yamaha RX-V2700, although with a smaller price (5) upconverts DVDs very well, looks nearly HD ... CONS: (1) face plate and knobs are made of cheap plastic rather than the metal in the RX-V2700 (2) needs a firmware update to operate properly, may have audio cut-outs if you dont

HDMI show troubles; watch out unauthorized seller!
1 Star Review   By member Palo46 - Aug 7, 2007

Strengths: Good spec. and features for the price; Good sound

Weakness: HDMI unreliable. don't honor warranty even it is new and import for US.

I bought the unit brand new in April. Sounds from this unit is outstanding until I got a chance to hook up with HDMI in June when I got my HD LCD TV and DVD with HDMI. Video and sound drops after about an hour of use (at the end of movie). Screen shows green. Get download from the Yamaha site and problem did not fix. Plus Yamaha is warning you that they will only honor warranty when the unit purchased through authorized retailer. My problem with that are two: 1. the unit is brand new with all US warranty card. How would I know the place I purchased was not authorized unless I go to Yamaha-Support site to find out. 2. My unit is a brand new with no wear and tear. Obviousely the problem with HDMI is a known quality issue in factory after I contact the service center and said it is common issue when using HDMI.

Strengths: LOOKS GOOD

Weakness: ONE TO TWO PARAGRAHS ON HDMI SET UP, NO TOLL FREE NUMBER FOR TROUBLE SHOOTING, WORTHLESS INSTRUCTION MANUAL, TERRIBLE ON SCREEN PROGRAMING, REMOTE IS TO CONFUSING, HDMI SWITCHING DOES NOT WORK

I BOUGHT THIS RECIEVER AND WAS HAPPY UNTIL 3 HOURS LATER I COULD NOT GET THE HDMI TO WORK PROPERLY NO 800 FOR SUPPORT AND 1 PARAGRAPH ON HDMI THATS THE ONLY REASON MOST PEOPLE BUY THIS IS FOR THE HDTV SUPPORT. PASS OVER THIS LEMON AND GET A PIONEER ELITE

5 Star Review   By member deal4good - Dec 6, 2006

Strengths: Sound Quality; Build Quality; Easy Set Up; Frendly Remote Control;

I connected this unit to my Polk Audio speakers. The set up is very easy. It has an auto setup function which is very good. I just need to plug in the mic (included in the package) and choose the auto setup from the screen. All volume levels of speakers will be set up automatically. The picture and sound quality it produces is great. The remote control is very easy to use. If I want to switch between DVD player and cable box, or some thing else, one botton press is enough. I love it. I haven't find anything wrong with it.
