Yamaha HTR-5960 | Black
4 Star Review  productwiki.com - Jul 22, 2009

The Yamaha HTR5960 is a full-featured digital home theater receiver ready for all formats. It sports a couple of features that not only improve the sound quality of your system, they also make your life a little easier. Component Video Up Conversion takes S-Video and composite signals and converts them into a component signal. This not only ensures the highest quality video from any source, it means you only need one connection to your HDTV monitor. No more switching inputs according to your source, it can all go through the component video connection. The HTR5960 also has YPAO (Yamaha Parametric Room Acoustic Optimizer) which uses an optimizer microphone at the listening position to pick up test tones from your speakers, which the system then analyzes to let you know the best audio parameters. The system will even automatically equalize the sound according to the readings it takes, for the ultimate in ... PROS: (1) Plenty of inputs - both digital and analog. (2) Excellent power capability (3) Excellent distortion-free clean sound (4) Assignable and re-nameable audio and video input settings (5) Easy-to-use remote ... CONS: (1) poor support (2) needs to be well ventilated - can get quite hot (3) poor manual (4) overstated power rating

And they say receiver quality doesn't matter??
4 Star Review

Strengths: Sound, power, ease of use

Weakness: um -what was the q??

Sorry this review is going to be another rave but after living with cheap receivers(i.e. lower end Kenwood, jvc, etc.) for years i finally decided to bite the bullet and boy am i ever glad i did... actually the kenwood was more of a mid level one and it seemed fine until i tried this one...video only in san francisco matched butterflys price and w/no shipping costs: voila! i'm good to go...(the four block walk to my house thru' The Tenderloin to my home w/my receiver on my dolly!) All i do mostly=listen to public radio but this unit does that with aplomb and everything else it needs to... 7 channel stereo=especially awesome even if i only have 5.1 speakers... price these days is indeed a bargain i believe for what u get... Enjoy!!!

Strengths: Amazing sound! plenty of connections nicely organized simple to program

Weakness: slight bulky...altho its only cuz of all the diff connections u get!

I am loving this receiver. It handles my Klipsch surround sound speakers EXTREMELY well. I have had no problems with it yet except trying to get it to fit inside my tv stand! I would defn recommend this receiver to anyone.

5 Star Review   By member rolltopstocks - Sep 14, 2006

Strengths: Very strong, clean, clear, and OH you audiophiles are going to fall in love.

Weakness: I really can't think of a one. Takes a bit to learn all of the functions. But comes with a auto set-up microphone to balance out all of your speakers and subs.

I have to start out saying that I drive my receiver/amps into the ground. I don't think I have had one last over a couple of years at the most. I run old pioneer 15" woofers at 4 ohmes on the front two channels. I have rebuilt these speakers a few times over the years. They are HPM 1500's I believe. Then I have some small side surround speakers. Then I made up I nice center speaker. Am running C-9000's in the rear for the back channels and have 2 big powered 12" subs off from the front and rear. All I can say is most amps when they meet that kind of resistance load just can't handle it. And if I push this baby to long and to hard I can get her to trip off too. But if you are watching a movie or have some great low bass music to put through this amp you will have a hard time leaving the room. I mean if you are going to be late for a date or work you just can't help yourself. This stereo just blows you away with all of those channels of surround and the crisp and clean way that it puts you into a deep trance that you just can't break away from. This is a amp that has all the imputs you will need I have over twenty sources running into this thing and on a lot of amps I might be up a creek with no bloody paddle. But not here, the good ole folk at Yamaha have got it figured out. I have had my system for about 18 months or so and man have I rode her hard. She gets hot and begs for me to ease up a-bit on her. But as you other audiophiles know that is when you dig into her harder. And she happily conforms to your wishes. This thing has multiple fans inside the cabinet and depending how hard you are throwing the juice to her they speed up as required to keep the beastly heat under control. This is a well laid out machine and well engineered, for the very reasonable price in the mid three hundreds you will be getting a amp of the same quality that would normally set you back a grand or more. I have burned out over a dozen amps in the last few years. And most of them where high end machines that cost around a thousand bucks or so. And this amp stands up to them and should make Yamaha proud. You can take my word for it, if you are looking for a amp to rock your world and thump your soul them pick up one of these and start to enjoy life the way it was ment to be.

Great Receiver!
5 Star Review   By member cmpokey - Jun 2, 2006

Strengths: XM Radio Ready, User friendly remote, Many channels

Weakness: Setup, Getting hot cause it needs to run all the time to watch tv, or to listen to music, or watch a movie

This amp was sure a surprise. It said it had only 7.1 channels and it has 9.1 channels! I love all the different sound effects such as movie theater sound, sci-fi sound, etc. It actually has been a lot of fun playing with it. I went from having a Yamaha 5 channel surround sound system with all things done on the front panel of the amp to this amp. I am very pleased with this receiver. It has so many channels I could set up my bedroom with a 5 in one system just like the living room if it had only one more subwoofer channel. That would be great. Cause right now I have it set up with 5 speakers without a subwoofer and it sounds great. And the power of the sound coming out is hard to believe. I have 2 Infinity primus 360, 2 Infinity Primus 160, and a Infinity Primus 25 (center channel) set up with it now.
