Almost a perfect addition to my Xperia ZL...almost
4 Star Review   By RetardedTiming on Sony - Official Store - Jan 23, 2014

Xperia ZL C6506 – Android 4.2.2 build 10.3.1.A.2.67 All three reviews are based off a bluetooth connection with my Xperia ZL. One thing that really annoys me about my ZL is that the ringer and notifications are controlled by the same volume control. It would be nice if these were separate because of the way that the Sony bluetooth headset devices interact with it. I use these at my desk at work while my phone is charging in the corner and then at the gym right after work. While at work my phone ringer is muted and vibrate is turned off. While at the gym the ringer is on as well as the vibrate function. MW600S – Pros: It’s the smallest of the three I have in my possession. Battery life is ok. The least buggy software of the three. Ranks second of the three in build quality and nice soft touch feel to exterior parts like most new phones. Fits nicely in the case I use for my Westone earbuds. Cons: The touch volume control is horrible. Most of the time I can’t get it to work. If it weren’t for this I would have ranked the build quality as first. You can’t charge it and use it at the same time. See above why this is important. Not as many features as the other two. The included earbuds are useless in my opinion. I very much dislike that the wire leads are different lengths to the ears. It causes one side to tug on your one ear a little harder and is usually the first to pop itself out. This happens more frequently at the gym than it does at work. Not a big deal because I bought this Bluetooth device to use with the favorite Westone’s anyway. Just thought I’d mention it for those that plan to use the included earbuds, While my phone is muted I don’t get text notifications through the device/earbuds. SBH52BK – software version 2.3.A.0.9 Pros: Mechanical volume control is a welcome addition over the horrible MW600 touch control. Battery life is good. Internal speaker is a plus, but in my case a minus because it doesn’t mute itself when earbuds are connected. Cons: Ranks third for the cheesiest build quality of the three. Feels very cheap and clunky. Clip feels and looks cheap. USB port is under a tethered splash resistant cover which tends to get in the way when trying to plug a charger in (which isn’t included). You get a 3 inch long USB cable which seems ridiculous. It is also the largest of the three by a wide margin. Barely fits in the case I use for my earbuds ( I have to really jam it in there), which is important to me as I use them as a unit. One without the other is useless. I couldn’t get the text-speech notification to work on this device, even after enabling it in the software. This is a problem in the office since it’s the only way I know I have a text. It lacks display brightness control. Just thought I’d mention it for those that plan to use the included earbuds, A HUGE problem when using this in the office with earbuds connected is when receiving a call the ringtone will still sound over the units internal speaker. Which makes this unit unusable in the office and turning a positive feature into a negative. MW1BTWHP – software version 0.1.E.1.6 Pros: Very nice design and ranks first in build quality of the three. Mechanical volume control is a welcome addition over the horrible MW600 touch control. Battery life is good. The clip doesn’t feel like it’s going to break with the first few uses. Fit and finish are very nice. You can charge the unit while still being used. Notifies by voice that I have a text message as well as who it’s from. Smartphone locator is a nice little feature (app) which seems to work well. Has brightness control for the display. Fits nicely in the case I use for my Westone earbuds. On board MP3 player is nice for when the battery dies in my ZL I can pop the microSD card out of the phone and into the MW1. Seems to have the most supported smartphone apps available on Google Play. Cons: My only very minor complaint on the build quality is that the cover for the USB and microSD slot does not have a very positive snap or fit to the main unit. I feel like it’s eventually going to lose it’s grip and just hang there by it’s tether. Could get annoying over time. Just thought I’d mention it for those that plan to use the included earbuds, The MW1 earbuds are a much better build quality than the other two though. A HUGE problem when playing music and receiving a call or listening to visual voicemail the music will continue to play over my ZL’s external speaker even though the ZL’s volume is muted! This is a big big problem in my office environment and unfortunately make it unusable in the office. This only happens on the MW1 unit, the other two did not do this. They would pause the Sony music app while receiving a call or listening to voicemail and then continue the music when I was finished. I really had high hopes for this unit. Hopefully this will be fixed with a software/firmware update….SOON. Until then it will sit in a drawer at the office. Conclusion: Until there is a firmware fix for the MW1 issue I mentioned, I will continue to use the MW600S over the MW1. As far as the SBH52, even with a firmware update, I can’t get over the large size, lack of features for the price, and the build quality. The SBH52 is being returned.

Has Bugs.
2 Star Review   By tannerc on Sony - Official Store - Sep 1, 2013

I have the newest firmware installed and I still get crackling/skipping on start up and after pause. After I get through a few tracks playback is fine. The "Shuffle" or random playback is terrible, not random, plays the same songs over and over and over, that has irritated me the most, 10 gigs of music on SD card and I get to listen to the same 15 songs all the time. I defiantly do not get 10 hrs out of a battery charge, More like 4 maybe 5. The best thing about this is the headphones are awesome! Very nice buds. It does handle Bluetooth calls well and is crystal clear on both ends when talking, But if your listening to music and take a call the crackling/skipping music starts all over again PIA. If your listening to music and get a text, crackling music until you skip a few tracks and get the thing working smoothly again.. So.... Sony, Whats the deal?! If you could fix these issues it would defiantly get 5 stars but it seems like all the firmware updates and still just a rather expensive non functional unit. I would like an answer if issues are being worked on yet or if Sony is going to scrap the MW1 leaving the people hanging.

Unfortunate Choice - recommend not to buy this
1 Star Review   By KiranChand on Sony - Official Store - Jul 17, 2013

I have purchased this device from eBay India and using this device for last 4 to 5 weeks. I'm using this device paired with my nexus 4 and nexus 7. As such, the headset looks cute I had a delight feeling on the first sight. The delight feel has slowly came down to frustrations and irritations with in a few hours of use itself. The device seems buggy sometimes and the sound is not transmitted in either direction. I would have to restart the headset frequently to use it properly. Another thing is about using it with Skype, I could never talk using this headset from my skype application running on my nexus 7 yet. You must note that I was using Nokia BH-111 happily for around 6 months for any problems on both these devices. The SmartConnect application is again a stupid choice and does not give any value add, 100s of better apps (like Llama...) are available on play store for performing different actions for different events. The unfortunate part is the firmware of this application has the dependency of a custom software running on SmartConnect. Totally, I'm upset in purchasing this; I'll be very happy if somebody can take this device from me at a reasonable cost or Sony can get me refund. Unfortunately in India, the return policies are not followed at all, else I would have returned this product and got my entire money refunded.

When I send or receive a call I can hear it perfectly, , but on the other end of the line it's huge interference, can you offer a solution, new firmware maybe? Firmware by the way unexpectedly stopped once, and I use it only since yesturday. Please do something about it and offer me a link for new firmware via e-mail or in review and instructions about how to install it if it solves the problem, because I would like to use this device.

Great for commuters
5 Star Review   By DanC on Sony - Official Store - Jun 1, 2013

This device is great for music loving commuters who are concerned about rising smartphone theft. Rather than keeping phone out while listening and selecting music, you keep this device hidden in purse or briefcase and use the display to select tunes. Perfect if you are standing with hand on a train or bus strap, and want to use one hand to control the song selection. At home, I connect the device to a stereo speaker with the jack, and play music from Google Play Music while it is charging. So it can make an non-Bluetooth stereo speaker system act like it's a Bluetooth speaker. The Sony apps you can add to an Android device makes the configuration very easy -- such as what to do at home, work or evening. I paired this with a Samsung Galaxy S3, and have no problems with sound quality or connections. You may want to download Sony's online PDF manual if you want more info than the one that comes in the box. Also go to SonyMobile's web site for tips and tricks like saving favorite radio stations. You also get 4 extra earbuds in 4 sizes and a small clip for securing the cord to clothing. The device's firmware is can be upgraded as well to improve the text-to-speech capabilities, for example.

5 Star Review   By KnightFox on Sony - Official Store - Jan 7, 2013

This is a very nice device that gives you a useful feeling with style. Works well with fone, and great sound in mp3 playback. Before there was problem with the library importing (keep saying "please wait" when the library is large) but now since the fix released, problem solved and the device can now recognize a huge library of music (even imported by media go) in few minutes. In common view, this device is just perfect for your daily use when you're out with or without fone. Just need some more iprovement in mp3 play back handling, like shuffle mode available in playlist playing, or playlist function must be able to scroll to the last song of the list (when pressing back at the first song of the liste especially when the list has like more than 500 songs). I love this headset.

A great idea poorly executed
1 Star Review   By esc76 on Sony - Official Store - Jan 3, 2013

Design is nice. But is bulkier than the MW600. FM integrated is good. But it's difficult to shift between radio, bluetooth or stored music. Own micro-SD slot is great! But it doesn't play other formats than MP3, and randomly recognizes the music or the songs data. Cannot make playlists or select music by artist, album or title. Sometimes doesn't recognize anything in the card! Short-lived battery. It establish bad connections with desktop or laptop computers, so files cannot be transferred to the device (have to be transferred to the card directly). At the end, none of the cool features are functional or available. I got tired of struggling to use any single feature so I returned to my MW600 and got happy again.

Device is so cool and usefull. Very bright screen is enough for its features but you have to speak close the device when you want to make a call. Previous models like hbh DS980 coolest model with its in-ear headpone and on cable mic.Headset pro has internal mic so you have to speak to it close. This is not cool and confortable. Reading emails, checking facebook messages is amazing features with android platform but lots of bug coming with them. This device perfect but only fail at internal mic maybe next model we can use own headphones with on cable mic.Led secreen is going to be more usefull(u cant check it when it is on your neck) and better call experience. This functions as it says it will, which is great. Sony, I don't see this item taking off since most of the functionality is redundant when used with a smart-phone. If the earbud connected to the body of the device wirelessly, it would be a very nice device. The presence of a visible cord just doesn't go along with the technological advances that Sony enthusiasts are looking for in new devices. If the cord was removed, it would be very handy to use the device for FM Radio and MP3's without draining phone batter. Answering calls/reading texts without having to pull out a full size smart-phone is also great, but its just not very cool when you have a cord hanging out of your ear. -Dillard

Answering calls/reading texts without having to pull out a full size smart-phone is also great, but its just not very cool when you have a cord hanging out of your ear. -Dillard

Great sound quality easy setup.
4 Star Review   By Spectre51 on Sony - Official Store - Jul 8, 2012

I was really impressed with the sound quality of music and phone calls when using this bluetooth headset. Calls were clear and music had nice bass to it. The built in FM tuner actually works really well though it won't remember stations. You have to scan to the station you want each time. The built in microSD card is great. Load up a microSD card with MP3's and you have a stand along mp3 player or stream the songs from your phone. Personally I don't use the smart apps for this that much ( I have the smartwatch for that) but accessing the call log through the headset and dialing is nice. I do wish there was a swivel on the clip so it would allow clipping it to different areas of your cloths better.

I just got delivery of MW1 today, booked from a online store in HK, as battery was Low, i put it immediately on charge. but while it was getting charged I could not see any LEDs, Light etc I.e it was not getting charged at all. I also tried with several chargers, points but Device is refusing to start up. I think it's dead, it seems there is some very very serious issues with this model. I understand few others are also facing similar problem

1 Star Review   By Nicolae on Sony - Official Store - Jul 2, 2012

I have wait for the release of this product several weeks(read it as more than a couple of months). After repeatedly postpones of the release date SONY eventually let the product out on the market and I have instantly ordered from a UK online store. I finally get the product in my possession, successfully paired (with my Xperia S) made a test call, then connect the headset to the computer expecting to have access to the micro SD card content. I don't know if I have or not . I had to leave the desk for a meting for a couple of hours, when I came back the device was completely dead. I'm currently waiting for a response from the UK site to see how to proceed with the warranty - is for the first time when I have to do that with a SONY product.
