Sennheiser PXC-450 Noise Canceling Headphones
3.5 Star Review  about.com - Dec 31, 1969

Overall, I found that the Sennheiser PXC-450 headphones offer an interesting full-size alternative to in-the-ear headphones, that can be used both at home or on-the-road, as well as offering an excellent noise cancellation function. However, the PXC-450 does not provide standout audio performance for the serious listener, especially with its high price tag. For more details, check out my Review

Sennheiser PXC 450
3 Star Review  productwiki.com - Dec 20, 2010

The Sennheiser PXC 450 are high-end, active noise-canceling headphones specifically designed for air travel. These circum-aural headphones are powered by the Sennheiser-developed NoiseGard technology originally developed for pilots to create a noise free environment by canceling the loud sound produced by aircraft engines. As with all noise-canceling headphones, NoiseGard achieves this by taking in the ambient noise with an external microphone, inverting the signal and feeding it to the listener, effectively blocking the unwanted noise from the listener. These headphones are made from hiqh-quality components, including an improved microphone and algorithm dubbed NoiseGard 2.0 effectively attenuating noise by as much as 23 dB (around 90%). Because of the earpad design, some noise-cancellation is done passively by physically isolating the listener from the outside environment. The active noise-cancellation feature can be toggled on and off, and requires 2 AAA batteries to operate (included). Mounted on the rear earcup are a set of ... PROS: (1) Excellent noise-canceling function (23 dB attenuation) (2) Great audio performance (3) Large, comfortable earcups ... CONS: (1) Expensive ($450) (2) Potential feedback from noise-canceling while resting head against a window, seat, etc. (3) Very large

4 Star Review   Crutchfield.com    ( See more reviews from Crutchfield.com )

Crutchfield has collected 30 user reviews for this product with an average rating of 4.6 out of 5 stars. The most recent reviewer said, "I bought these after a long struggle to choose between the Sennheisers and the Bose Quiet Comforts. I chose these based on reviews of comfort and overall sound. Unfortunately and suprisingly the ear cups are TOO large. I have admittedly large ears and my ears touched the housing, not the rim, but the inside frame which was very surprising and uncomfortable. I've not encountered any other headphones that have large enough cups to have this issue. The sound of the headphones was very good. However, with just the noise cancellation turned on with no sound, turning my head side to side produced a very awkward low frequency "rumble" that was somewhat disorienting. I've read about this in other reviews, but it was not often mentioned, so I decided to try them out. This issue alone was enough for me to return the heaphones and get the Bose Quiet Comforts. "
