THE ONLY PERFECT AUDIO SOLUTION
5 Star Review

Strengths: CRYSTAL-clear reception. Noise and jitter-free. Comfortable and light on your head. Decodes Dolby Digital and DTS! Superb resolution and volume.

Weakness: Plastic construction of the headphones are a little brittle and weak. Base station give off heat after a while. Range is limited to 30ft. with no obstacles in Rcv path. Slight delay upon sending sound

Hands down, the best I've ever had. Money well spent! Even though you get a limited range, the reception is CRYSTAL clear. You must, you must, you must, configure your audio source properly in order to maximize the quality of these cans! Do you expect to hear good sound from these headphones if your sound card is less than crap? Or if your equalizer values are all wrong? Buy quality components to back this thing up. Ignorance of audio tuning can leave you wondering why these things suck. And ignorance of proper audio tuning can be the one thing that makes you return this otherwise amazing system. It's just like a car or a PC; if it isn't tuned right, it'll run like arse! These things decode dolby digital and DTS, need I say any more? What does this mean for your listening experience? It means these cans are perfect for Cinema, gaming, or whatever audio task there is under the sun. They run off rechargeable AA batteries, not off of a propriety company-supplied battery that makes for an expensive replacement years down the road--if they are even still manufactured! As noted above, the plastic construction of the headphones themselves are a little brittle, and certainly not meant to be man-handled. So be gentle as this is a quality product worthy of respect and great care. When turned on, the base station produces a generous amount of heat right near the input power receptacle. Fortunately, the casing of the base station has escape vents at the corners. I've read other reviews and I don't know what people are thinking when they say the base is ugly. Eh, I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Furthermore, other reviewers have noted that the bass frequencies are lacking in oomph and in clarity. I HIGHLY disagree. Like I said, if your COMPLETE audio system is tuned right, these headphones will SURELY deliver to your expectations. It takes a good hour of experimentation and tweaking of your settings (mostly software on the PC). Play with the equalizer. Sometimes this involves multiple applications! As far as home theater goes, make sure your EQ, whether electronic or component, is tuned right. And on that note, I recommend purchasing an all-glass fiber optic cable. I replaced the plastic TOSlink with a 250-strand glass cable and the clarity jumped noticeably, especially in the low freqs which tend to get cut more easily. The headband and the earcups seem to be made of a synthetic leather or something, but are EXTREMELY comfortable. And on that note, you won't even feel the cans resting on your head because they are so light, MUCH lighter than my old Tritton AX360 headphones (those were a good pair too). Pioneer is a trusted and time-honored brand of electronic entertainment, and these heaphones certainly live up to that and carry on that reputation. There is only one minor nuissance: that is when you send an audio stream to the unit, the base station synchronizes with it, producing a half-second delay. Not big deal, really. My advice: DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT. IF YOU HAVE THE MONEY...JUST BUY THEM. YOU ____WON'T___ _REGRET IT.

Wireless Headphone Review - Pioneer SE-DIR800C
5 Star Review   By member rak39ljk41 - May 16, 2008

Strengths: Excellent sound, no background noise

Weakness: cost

After trying these headphones for several days, the only thing I can say is "WOW". I have used cheap wireless headphones for several years. These are much more costly but worth every cent, or $$$. The sound is awesome, there is no background hiss. If you really want great sound, then spend the extra money and get the best.

Not too strong mechanically....
3 Star Review   By member LeeSweet - Nov 7, 2007

Strengths: Excellent headphones, as reported but....

Weakness: I have broken two sets of these headphones. The earphones seem to have a weak pivot (it doesn't pivot too far...) and after a few months, snaps.

As above... great, but I wish there was a new version that had a more robust physical structure to the actual headphone attachment to the 'band'. I've tried to glue them to repair them, with no luck. The only IR headset with optical cable base connectivity I've found, and DD5.1, but.. :)

Pioneer SEDIR800C Digital Wireless Headphones for Surround Sound
5 Star Review   By member techtechie - Oct 18, 2007

Strengths: Dolby digital sound, very comfortable headphones, easy hook-up, no hiss as in some wireless headphones

Weakness: Basically only line-of-sight transmission between base and headphones

The Pioneer SEDIR800C Digital Wireless Headphones really provide comfortable quality sound to the audiophile owner. The digital infrared transmission system provides surround sound in the following formats: Dolby Digital and Dolby Pro Logic II with DTS decoders built in. Hookup between the headphone base is very easy and you can connect the headphones to virtually any audio/video source. I especially like the comfortable headphones and the excellent hiss-free sound they provide. Rechargeable batteries for the headphones can be recharged in the headphone base and they seem to provide long play in between charges. The only drawback to this setup is the fact it is the infrared transmission system which is line-of-sight only. I highly recommend these Pioneer Wireless Headphones to anyone who would love to comfortably listen to great sound.

best wireless cans evar!
5 Star Review   By member atdave - Mar 30, 2006

Strengths: wireless, surround, long battery life, comfortable

These headphones are amazing. I use these for everything: music, movies, video games, tv. I guarantee they will live up to your expectations... with excellent sound quality that's as good or better than most wired headphones. They really sound like a full set of surround speakers! For once, the manufacturer didn't lie about battery life: these things really work for up to 16 hours on a single charge! And I've never had any problems with the signal. There is no static, and although the manual says you have to be right in front of the transmitter, you can pretty much go anywhere in the room without losing the signal. Dolby Headphone technology works with any audio signal: stereo, dolby pro logic I/II, dolby digital, dts. Receiver can be mounted vertically (because we all know--vertical is the new horizontal;-)
