Koss PortaPro
4 Star Review  productwiki.com - Sep 1, 2009

Introduced in 1984 the PortaPro has remained Kosss greatest and most popular headphone. Featuring unparalleled performance within its price segment, the PortaPro is a sure bet for anyone interested in an open mid-fi headphone. Great comfortable headphone
4 Star Review   By member leshan - Apr 1, 2008

Strengths: Mids, Highs, and bass all sound quite good.

Weakness: NO

This headphone has a feature which Koss calls “Comfort Zone.” Light weight, I think the Portapro’s are just about the most comfortable headphones I have ever listened to! Mids, Highs, and bass all sound quite good.

PortaPro Goodness!
5 Star Review   By member cuddrew - Feb 15, 2008

Strengths: great, deep sound; easy to stow away; lifetime warranty

Weakness: hair can occasionally get stuck

Like most of you, I was deciding between the Koss Portapros and the Sennheiser PX100's. I read all of the reviews online, went with the PortaPros and haven't looked back. The design from these is straight off the pages of your latest hipster mag. The PX100's felt a little chinsey, disturbing since they only have a 2 year warranty as opposed to the Koss lifetime. All in all, I really like these headphones and don't plan on buying another one until I become enough of an audiophile to pick up a pair of SR60's. You won't be disappointed.

Koss Portapro Headphones
5 Star Review   By member Mongo25 - Apr 27, 2007

Strengths: Comfortable, Deep bass, Collapsible

Weakness: None, really

I already had a pair of Sennheiser px-100 headphones, but I decided I needed something that would cut through the cacophony of the subway a little better. These do the trick. I wish I had bought them first.

Great headphones for under $50
5 Star Review   By member pjecty10 - Feb 27, 2007

Strengths: portable, very high midrange and lifetime warranty

Weakness: lacking in bass responce

I took my time and did the research and found these headphones to be in the top three in great headphones for under $50. These headphones in my opinion are awesome and the sound definitely proves it. The bass responce is a little lacking but overall great headphones.

May I never have to go to earbuds again.
5 Star Review   By member cashewsahoy - Feb 18, 2007

Strengths: Very comfortable. Excellent lows to highs with nice bass. Good price.

Weakness: None to speak of, unless you consider the open headphone design a weakness, in which case you should be buying something else.

The Sennheiser PMX100s I had been using for the last several months decided to self-destruct, that is, the cord started to fray, eventually resulting in a very noticeable drop in sound quality. I couldn't deal with it anymore and decided to toss them and get myself a new pair. The question was to either get a duplicate pair, with which I would be assured of sound quality, but faced with the prospect of their eventual breakage; or get a different set, propelling me into the world of the unknown. After much research I decided on the much-touted Koss PortaPro. Upon delivery, I took them for the proverbial "spin" with my mp3 player. I get excellent clarity and volume with these phones, even when running them on a device powered by one rechargeable AA battery. They were a stark contrast to the Sony MDR-W08s I had been using in the meantime. I've been using them every day since I got them, so there's no question about them being "broken in". I can sincerely recommend them to anyone wanting a pair of reasonably priced, yet quality headphones.

The Most Awesome Headphones
5 Star Review   By member Davidd1964 - Jan 17, 2007

Strengths: Great sound and low price. Fold to a managable size.

Weakness: Foam pads wear out but replacable

I have the same Portapro Headphones that I was given with the purchase of a new stereo back in 1984 when the Portapro first came out. I love these things. They are 22+ years old and still kicking butt! They make every player sound better. They even make my Laptop sound great while watching DVDs or listening to Cd's. I would recommend these to anyone. I am an extremely satisfied customer/user of the Koss Portapro. Just think, I've not had to purchase headphones in over 22 years! How many people can say that? Try them for yourself and you will see what I'm talking about. You'll be surprised!

PORTAPRO Headphones
5 Star Review   By member queequag - Dec 29, 2006

Happy with purchase. Since the headphones collapse, they are very portable. They are also very sturdy, so I don't feel as though they will break easily or be destroyed in the bottom of a bookbag. I also like that the metal band is adjustable. They don't hurt, and the sound is EXCELLENT for the cost!

Best Collapsible Headphones
5 Star Review   By member a_mccornack - Aug 26, 2006

Strengths: Small folding design, superb sound

Weakness: Temple pads wear out after a year or two, though they are replaceable

These are probably the best headphones you can buy without spending a hundred dollars or more. The ear speakers fold up, while the metal band surrounds them, and it latches closed. It makes them the ideal headphone for those of us who like music with our exercise, but don't want the danger of closing out all of the sounds around us. They are small enough to tuck into the included bag, to toss into a purse or gym bag, and don't take up much space.

3 Star Review   By member carlag1961 - Aug 4, 2006

Strengths: The Sound, it is excellent

Weakness: The ear pads are terrible.

I love the Koss headphones, i always have liked Koss even better than Sony or any other maker of headphones they make my music sound tremendous. The only problem i'm having with them right now is the ear foam and i have not had them for that long. The foam is for some reason very thin and hurts my ears. Other than that i would always reconmend Koss headphones.

Fantastic portable headphones!
4 Star Review   By member chuckecheez - Feb 20, 2006

Strengths: Great sound; light weight; very comfortable; lifetime warranty

Weakness: Metal headband tends to pinch hair

I was looking for a good set of comfortable headphones, primarily for use in the office. My primary consideration was comfort, since I would be wearing them 6-7 hours per day, and sound quality was a close second. The Koss PortaPros deliver in both departments. They are so light and comfortable that you can barely tell you have them on. I have been wearing them every day for over a week up to 3-4 hours at a time with no problems. Most headphones place too much pressure on your ears, which causes fatigue and pain after a couple of hours, but due to a unique design, the PortaPros don't have this trouble. They use an extra set of foam pads around the temples to take pressure away from your ears and it works great. In the sound department, they have a very full, rich sound with good bass. I compared them with another pair of Koss cheapies and a good set of Aiwas and the PortaPros sounded much better than either of those. I'm sure that you can buy better-sounding cans, but you will pay 2-3 times more than you can find these for, and I don't think most people would notice a big difference. I did lots of research before making this purchase and the PortaPros got consistent recommendations from both casual listeners, as well as audiophiles. For a price of $40-$50, you can't go wrong.

Don't even read this, just buy them already.
5 Star Review

Strengths: Simplistic and light in design, the Koss PortaPro headphones might not feel like a $50 headset, but they sound like a $2000 living room stereo system. And the light comfortable pads keep them stuck to your ears with maximum comfort.

Weakness: Steep price tag for the look, average durability, but the sound quality makes up for it.

I always go back to these headphones, a $5 set of buds or a $450 professional headset for studio recording don't even compare (save for blocking out ambient noise). These are absolutely fantastic for anyone and everyone. I got comments about people who thought they looked like they were stolen from the 1980's, but other than that they are award-worthy, the sound quality is phenomenal, and the way they stay stuck to your head with just the right amount of pressure demonstrates the precision engineering and raw power of this product. From rock, to classical; rap to punk, the sound quality seems like you just stepped into te hrecording studio for whomever you're listening to. 5 of 5 stars.
