Description
What does the i stand for in the new SR225i from Grado? Improved, that's what! Features are the same as the SR125i, new driver, cable and housing designs, but this headphone has an increased rear air flow, utilizes Grado's larger ear cushion and has closer matched drivers. Air flow is increased by 50% which is achieved through an improved rear metal screen. The use of closer matched drivers and the larger cushions results in an enlarged soundstage, while the improved rear screen frees the headphone from coloration's.

Grado SR225i
3 Star Review  productwiki.com - Apr 23, 2009

Re-introduced in March 2009 with a slightly tweaked and improved driver, the SR225i is a high end headphone from Grado. With similar features as the SR125i, the SR225i increases air flow by 50% which is achieved through an improved rear metal screen and closer matched drivers. The result is an enlarged soundstage achieved from closer driver tolerances, while the improved rear screen frees the headphone from colorations. The SR225i is a popular middle-of-the-line option between the lower end SR60i/SR80i and the higher end RS2i/RS1i. Features Vented diaphragm Non Resonant air chamber UHPLC copper voice coil wire Standard copper connecting cord Tranducer type : dynamic Operating principle : open air Frequency response : 20-22 SPL 1mV : 98 Normal impedance : 32ohms Driver matched db : .05 ... PROS: (1) slightly darker than lower grado headphone models, easier to listen to (2) the most high end Grado that maintains the light plastic shell (3) one of the best from a price:performance ratio - SR325 is $100 (50%) more, SR125 is not well regarded (4) spartan design focuses on what matters - quiet resilient and easy to fix (5) stands out - aesthetically pleasing, timeless design ... CONS: (1) some believe a lesser Grado can be transformed to approach the refined sound of the 225 by implementing modifications (replacing grill, adding dampening to the back of the driver etc...) (2) open design and thick cable are only good for quiet at home listening - cannot be easily thrown in a bag (3) potential comfort issues - takes a while to get used to (4) expensive outside the USA

5 Star Review   Crutchfield.com

Crutchfield has collected 5 user reviews for this product with an average rating of 5.0 out of 5 stars. The most recent reviewer said, "Very nice sound! Replaced a pair of Sennheiser hd 500 phones with these based on reviews and I am not disappointed. Clear, well defined separation of instruments creating superb imaging. Very efficient even without headphone amp. these phones don't distort when cranked up to higher levels like most others I have tried. Extra thick cord is a bit cumbersome but adds to quality of sound. Normally listen through Onkyo NR 808 receiver but even my ipod drives these phones to adequate volume levels. Crutchfield service great as usual."
