Strengths: COMFORTABLE HEADPHONES

Weakness: BAD SOUND QUALITY. TERRIBLE RECEPTION. AUDIO CABLE NOT INCLUDED (COST $8).

I do not recommend this product. Besides the comfortable headphones, its reception and sound quality are terrible. Audio cable was not included which will cost you somewhere between $7-$8.

Out Of Business For Good Reason
1 Star Review

Strengths: Not much good if they don't continue to work.

Weakness: Produces "sibalence" - raspy S sounds. On/Off switch stops working.

First of all, AR went under and has been bought out by Thompson. Second, I purchase my 1st pair the beginning of '05 and the on/off switch stopped working around June. Thompson sent a second pair and the switch gave out in August. Thompson then sent a third pair which DID NOT WORK OUT OF THE BOX. If you buy these headphones - KEEP THE RECEIPT, you'll need it to get a refund. Oh yeah, the customer support people at Thompson are a piece of work.

Acoustic Research AW791 Surround Sound Wireless Headphones
2 Star Review   By member Wabos42 - Sep 7, 2005

Strengths: Easy to setup. Headphones, though heavier that my previous set are very comfortable.

Weakness: Intermittent static, frequent signal loss. Plugging headphones into the charging unit somewhat tedious.

When they work, they produce excellent results. Sharp and clear sound. Can be frustrating to lose the signal in the middle of a movie. I do not have any other 900mhz devices so have no clue why the signal loss or where the static sounds come from.

Acoustic Research AW791 Surround Sound Wireless Headphones
3 Star Review   By member Charlie... - Jul 23, 2005

Strengths: Price, sound quality

Weakness: Range

I am disappointed with range. On the box it said "Patented, ultra-quiet 900MHz technology allows signal to travel through walls, floors and ceilings up to 300 ft." Well right now, I am less than 10 feet and one wall and loose reception sometimes, works well in the same room. Sound quality is very good. You must be careful when placing the headset on the base to be sure it will charge the Ni-MH batteries. Considering I paid less than $35, I would buy again

Strengths: The headphones are comfortable. The design seems good. The audio quality is very good. Instructions are good and ease os installation is simple and straightforward, but then I know what I am doing and how it should work.

Weakness: Signal strength is not very good, even at only fifteen feet. The signal frequently cut-out and I have to reach up and re-set channels. Really anoying and guaranteed to occur when there is a passage you really love or there is something that you really wan

It is a love hate relationship. They are comfortable to wear, my head and jaw do not get sore from hours of wear. The sound quality is very good but I do not know how authentic the 5.1 surround sound really is. I cannot hear it, as opposed to sitting in my living room and listening to surround sound there. I would not buy them for this reason. My biggest complaint is that they are easily subject to interference. If you have an old style TV with a big CRT, the magnetic interference will shut these down. Adequate sheilding is difficult. I also have a problem where I am watching the a movie and I my wife is sleeping next to me, and I want to hear something, they will cut -out and I have to reach up, find the button by my right ear and change the frequency on the headphones. Since there is a slight time delay in changing these channels, there is about an eight second dead period where you will not hear anything. If I can find a way to kill all other electronic noise, these might be just about great.

4 Star Review   By member PoorPurr - Mar 17, 2005

Strengths: Comfortable-well designed-surround sound effect-quality materials used in construction-uses high quality nickel-metal-hydride batteries which can be recharged frequently, not cheap nicad batteries

Weakness: Bassy-no control to reduce the bass which comes through louder than the midrange and high end. Sometimes produces static in reception depending on your orientation to the base station.

I have had a set of these headphones for over 3 years. Paid $150 on sale at the time. Just recently purchased 2 more, each cost just a little over 1/3 the price I paid for my first set. (Sometimes produces static in reception depending on your orientation to the base station. Headphones are difficult to seat on the recharging base, which is required to recharge the headphone batteries.) They are very comfortable, and a great bargain at this new reduced price. Highly recommend if you are looking for a comfortable, great sounding pair of headphones.

Strengths: Easy to setup. Quick and easy recharging. All the wires you'll need to get any hooked up to the headphones. VERY comfortable. Nice full, bassy sound (if you ignore the static)

Weakness: Static and lots of it.

These headphones would be perfect if it wasn't for one thing... they don't work. I mean these headphones are going to give Rice Krispies a run for their money, because they have the most snap, crackle, and pop I've ever heard. Everything else about the headphones is simply fantastic: great bassy sound, comfortable, easy charging, and adapters to connect to most types of audio outputs. Oh yeah, and I don't know if this is intentional, but the charging station gets warm while charging and heats the ear pieces up, which makes the headset even more comfortable. It should also be noted that the headphones may work properly in interference-free or rural areas, such as Arizona or Kansas or something, but they are static laden in urban areas.

Strengths: UNK

Weakness: $200 price, no weekend tech support, no info in manual or online on hooking up to PC

Pay $200 for headphones and you kind of expect a good experience. TO START OFF AR has NO tech support on weekends. 8 to 5 eastern m-f with 2 hour lunch! OMG half the junk in the US is purchased on the weekend and now I have to wait 3 days to hook up. WHY? AR has no information at all on hooking up these headphones to a computer, I can hook up to my dvd player, vcr, sterio, or TV but not my computer. I know it sounds like it should be a no brainier but where does the left and right audio input equate to on a audigy sound card. The powered and non powered plug in. Will the powered plug harm the base (no tv or vcr has powered inputs). How about the digital rca out does it need a special cable, hooks to which port? Does any of the myriad of sound options supported by the headphones have an up or downside on the pc (sound from mp3s, dvds, games with positional sound etc with recommendations for the best sound in each area) WHY do I have to guess about this? This is stupid I am returning these to the store.

Strengths: Comfortable. Easy to setup.

Weakness: Has a low hiss in the background. Volume control difficult for people with big fingers

This device is satisfactory for the low price. The charging stand/Transmitter is small in size. The headphone unit is relatively light. They fit over the ears well. The pads are fabric covered instead of vinyl for ventilation. I hooked mine to my DVD player with the supplied digital optical cord and got good results. The sound really feels like actual surround sound. I watched Independence Day and some of the explosions and music, it felt like it was going to rock me right out of my chair. The unit had a low hiss in the background, but it diminished after a while. Only wish the volume controll was easier to use as I have large fingers, But I am larger than average people. Very nice not having a cord trailing from my head, and this will work out better for me because it's hard to have a home theater in an apartment and not get evicted.
