Garmin Nuvi 200
3.5 Star Review  productwiki.com - Jul 6, 2009

The Garmin Nuvi 200 is an entry-level GPS receiver released in mid-2007. This device was designed as a low-cost alternative to its predecessor, late 2005’s $1000 Nuvi 350. While not as fully featured as the Nuvi 350, this GPS does include the essentials for the average driver’s traveling needs. The Nuvi 200 comes preloaded with maps for the lower 48 states, including Hawaii and Puerto Rico. Additional maps may be downloaded to the device via the internet and saved to an SD Card. This GPS also features voice prompts (“turn left in 500 ft.”), but does not feature spoken street names like in most higher-end receivers. With the ability to save 500 favorite locations as well as custom points of interest, most drivers looking for an entry-level GPS should find Garmin’s Nuvi 200 more than adequate. Features 3.5” touch screen color display, 320 x 240 resolution voice prompts for hands-free navigation ... PROS: (1) 3." touchscreen display (2) 5 hours of portable use with rechargeable battery (3) 2D and 3D maps (4) voice prompts (5) affordable price ... CONS: (1) does not include higher end features such as spoken street names, wireless connectivity or waypoints (2) You cannot add speed limits and detours (3) Upgrading maps is tedious (4) Cannot submit updates to other people as you can with the Tom Tom (5) Discontinued

Excellent GPS!
5 Star Review   By member rusblue - Nov 1, 2008

Strengths: Nice compact size...very, very small, Lightweight-5.2 ounces

Weakness: lacks the text-to-speech function. does not hold battery charge well.

The Garmin Nuvi 200 is very easy to use and enter addresses into. This is important because if it wasn't simple to use my mom and dad would have a hard time getting anywhere and it would have been a waste of money. Getting a satellite signal outside or in the car has not taken longer then a few minutes even on overcast/cloudy days and calculating your route usually only take a few seconds. For one I wish you could enter a different starting location than where you currently are if only to plan ahead. Also, I would be nice if they included an AC adapter in the package instead of just a DC car charger. You will most likely not be leaving the device in your car so it would be nice to bring it in the home and charge. If you want to do this you will have to purchase the optional AC charger. The suction cup mount is nice but for me than only place it will stick to is my window and nowhere else. It will not stick anywhere to the dash or center console in my Durango. I am pleased and happy with the unit - Great Starter unit!

Strengths: This is a great entry level gps with no thrills but pretty precise directions.

Weakness: Units volume level is not that loud so when you open the windows with this unit it on it is hard to hear.

I bought this unit for my wife, she swears by it. This unit provides a compact 3.5" lcd and voice prompts. This unit is surprising accurate for an entry level unit. I would say this is a great entry level GPS.

Solid Budget Starter GPS
4 Star Review   By member normietrice - Aug 24, 2008

Strengths: Easy to use, Free '09 Map Upgrade, Points of Interest

Weakness: No TTS, ETA not always accurate, Odd best routes at times, Confusing directions sometimes

This is my first GPS receiver and it gets the job done. Not really ever using a GPS before, I found it pretty easy to update and start using. Garmin provides a free upgrade to '09 maps. Points of Interest, where you can search for virtually any business such as restaurants, grocery stores, and hotels comes in really handy. The biggest thing lacking from this GPS is arguably the lack of talk to speech. Street names are not said by the voice. I've found that the ETA can sometimes not be right or slow to update. There are times where I've arrived a couple minutes to my destination before the ETA, yet it does not update to reflect. The route choices made are also sometimes questionable and not the way I would go. I haven't had any problems with inaccurate directions yet though. However, once when I was in Chicago downtown, it kept recalculating like every 10 seconds which was very annoying. The Garmin nuvi 200 is a nice entry GPS for those simply looking for something that can tell them how to get from one place to another.

Weakness: Does not come with a USB cable

I got this GPS because I wanted the basic GPS that would get me where I needed to go. If you want something fancy with many extras, this is not the device for you. Simple, easy to use GPS
5 Star Review   By member ngkon - Jul 26, 2008

Strengths: Compact enough to carry, easy to store at a terrific price.

Weakness: A little slow to aquire satellites sometimes and lacking the features of more expensive units.

I have been using this unit for about a month and love it. The set up is easy and so is figuring it out without reading any of the limited instruction booklet. I was surprised at the ease of finding what I want from directions to restaurants to fuel. Reviews I have read said the unit does not have text to speech but the unit does tell you "turn in 500ft", "turn now" and so on which I find is more then enough without saying the street names. While this unit can't store your music library or let you use it as Bluetooth for your phone it does what it needs to, gets you to your destination at a price anyone can afford.

Nuvi 200 GPS
4 Star Review   By member lsutigr - Jul 11, 2008

Strengths: Affordability, compact size.

Weakness: No voice street names.

This is a tremendous value in a GPS device. The prices on these units have recently come down dramatically. My understanding is that they are being discontinued. As a result you can pick up this great little GPS for $150 or less if you shop around. It may not have all the bells and whistles but it gets you where you are going. Its highly recommended.

Evan Glueck - overall good unit
4 Star Review   By exg10 on Buydig.com - Jun 20, 2008

Strengths: Compact – easy to carry in pocket Good audio sound

Weakness: Maps out of date Time to locate satellites a bit long

Ive had the unit only a month or so. It seems that the software hasn't been updated in at least a year based on some POIs that are not that new but not in the unit

A budget GPS with good performance
4 Star Review   By member billchendz - Jun 19, 2008

Strengths: 1 small and portable 2 simple to use 3. inexpensive 4. good performance with accurate localization

Weakness: 1 some nuvi 200 devices may have the old map 2 no TTS, so cannot report actual street names in turn-by-turn directions

I like this small and simple GPS. No fancy functions like playing mp3 music. GPS is GPS, which should be devoted for navigation, right? This nuvi 200 is very easy to use with accurate localization performance. The only concern is that it cannot report acutal street names, but is this TTS function really important? At least not to me. As a budget GPS, it is among top choices.

A great value if you dont need all the bells and whistles!
5 Star Review   By cdecro00 on Buydig.com - Mar 19, 2008

Strengths: Great features for the price, easy to use, lots of POIs, fast satellite acquisition

Weakness: Screen is a bit small but try the 200W

I bought my Garmin Nuvi 200 after comparing it with similar priced units with similar functions. The only one that came close to the Garmin Nuvi 200 was the Garmin Sreet Pilot C320/30 and the Tom Tom One. But after reading some reviews on it I went with the Garmin and I couldn't be happier! It has the latest maps and great signal strength! I also went with the 7-9 day Free Shipping... I GOT MINE IN 4 DAYS!

The Garmin Nuvi 200 is a great value for those looking for basic navigation. Since moving to a new city, I have learned my way around the city very fast. After owning the Garmin Nuvi 200, I don't see how I ever made it without one!

FANTASTIC Entry Level GPS
5 Star Review   By member nittanyboy - Feb 7, 2008

Strengths: Bright, clear display; quick, accurate route calibration; solid voice prompts

Weakness: Lacks text-to-speech and traffic support

After a year and a half of putting off this purchase decision, I finally broke down and bought a Nuvi 200 for my wife. My wife works as our local Humane Officer and, as such, is constantly scurrying about the county on calls to come rescue a wide variety of abused and neglected critters. She ABSOLUTELY LOVES this device! No more time lost searching for (often unreliable) internet directions / maps. The display on the Nuvi 200 is bright and clear, to the point that neither of us would recommend spending the additional money to "upgrade" to the widescreen version. Voice prompts are loud enough to be heard over the din of city traffic, radio deejays, and children in the backseat. The route calibration is quick and reliable; it works well both within the city and in rural areas. Though the Nuvi will occasionally drop you off 2-3 doors away from your target destination, it is acceptably accurate and always get you close enough to the intended destination that the driver can complete the voyage without any undue confusion. The points-of-interest function is so convenient that is has spawned a new family game where we all climb into the car and let the Garmin decide where we will dine that evening. Though the unit does not support text-to-speech (it will not pronounce street names, instead instructing you to "turn left in 50 ft.") and traffic functions, these are features that do not exist on any GPS device in this price range. Though this is our family's first GPS unit, we are so thoroughly impressed that Garmin has earned a pair of customer's for life.

FANTASTIC Entry Level GPS
5 Star Review

Strengths: Bright, clear display; quick calibration / orientation; reliable, easy to follow directions maps and voice prompts

Weakness: Lacks text-to-speech and traffic support

After a year and a half of putting off my purchase decision, I finally broke down and purchased the Garmin Nuvi 200 for my wife. She works as our local Humane Officer and as such is constantly scurrying about town to track down abused or neglected critters throughout the entire county. She ABSOLUTELY LOVES this device! No more time lost searching for (often unreliable) internet directions / maps. The maps on the Nuvi are clear and bright; I see no reason to waste any extra money on the "widescreen" version of this device. The voice-prompts are loud and clear; they can be heard over the din of city traffic, radio deejays, and children in the backseat. Though the navigation system will occasionally cause you to arrive 2-3 houses away from your desired location, the unit is acceptably precise and will always get you close enough to the destination that you can figure things out on your own. Route calibration is quick and accurate; the unit performs admirably both within the city and throughout farm-country. The point-of-interest function is so convenient, it has literally spawned a new family game where we all climb into the car and let the Garmin choose the dinner location for the evening. The only weakness I could possibly imagine is the lack of text-to-speech and traffic support... which you will not find on any other device in this price range. Thought this is our family's first GPS device, we are so thoroughly pleased with the Nuvi that Garmin has earned a set of life-long customers.

nuvi 200 GPS - My best road-mate.
5 Star Review   By member rosewealth - Feb 3, 2008

Strengths: Very good alert messages in time while driving. All necessary features for a driver on the road available in this model.

Weakness: Does not have other facilities like connection to the cell phone, MP3 features etc. but these are not essential for a driver.

I like the product very much as it does help me while I drive to a new place and is able to recalculate if I ignore the prompts and drive in wrong route. A reliable friend on the road while driving. I will recommend to all drivers who just need someone to help them find their way to any new destination in North America.

Sweet little device!
5 Star Review   By member rsmalling - Jan 31, 2008

Strengths: Plenty of necessary features for its price point. No subscription or additional equipment.

Weakness: My wife feels it doesn't verbally notify the driver of turns soon enough, but the distance to next turn is shown on the map and numerically on the screen.

This Garmin has everything a normal driver would need. It's easy to use and is ridiculously portable. It automatically adjusts your directions if you miss a turn. No regrets on this purchase.

The nuvi is groovy!
5 Star Review   By member tconrad114 - Jan 20, 2008

Strengths: very user friendly

my husband uses it everyday for his job. He is very impressed with how easy it is to use. We have also used it for a trip. He really likes the feature that if you make a wrong turn or miss a turn it automatically recalculates your route to your destination. He is like a little kid with a new toy.

Will Get You There
4 Star Review   By member tennisman13 - Jan 17, 2008

Strengths: Very easy to learn and use.

Weakness: Won't always give you the fastest or most direct route.

The only thing negative I can say about this product is that I found that while it seems to always get you to your destination, it doesn't always select the fastest or most direct route. I have found that in many occasions when I knew the best route, the gps would suggest longer routes that took more time.

woefully dated map and POI
2 Star Review   By member cd69 - Jan 14, 2008

Strengths: decent UI

Weakness: Map and POIs

The community I live in is 2 yrs old. The map shows my street but it go to the address because they haven't updated the address range for the 2 yr old development. My wife and I were looking for the Babies R Us. The map took us to a location that move 1.5 yrs ago. It didn't have the newer address. Same problem with the local Home Depot. And all of this in Portland, not BFE!!! It's getting returned.

Garmin NUVI 200
5 Star Review

Strengths: Very user friendly and easy to learn all the function.

Weakness: No serious weakness.

I have used a factory installed navigation system in my car for 5 years and was curious to see if the NUVI 200 could compare favorably with it. The Garmin GPS perfomed very close to the $K unit in my car. It is easy to use and has more than enough features to make it a must have piece of equipment for anyone who traels a lot. The unit is very affordable and has no serious shortcomings. I would recommend it to anyone who needs a basic GPS based navigation tool to find locations in a strange city.

GARMIN nuvi 200 GPS
4 Star Review   By member nashdogdown - Dec 13, 2007

Strengths: Easy to read & easy to use.

Weakness: Sometimes acquiring the satellite signal was a little slower than I would have liked.

Recently went home & much has changed. I've been gone many years. I liked the routes it provided for my various trips including routing through snow covered roads. With the many changes in roads & homes, etc. I would have been lost many times. Instead the GPS got me where I wanted & needed to go. It has been excellent in my current home town, too.

Garmin Nüvi 200 Portable Automotive GPS Navigator
5 Star Review   By member eightyhertz - Dec 10, 2007

Strengths: Slim/compact, bright screen, SD card slot, WAAS, low priced entry level auto GPS,

Weakness: No Alaska/Canada maps (2008 maps have only lower 48 states), No Mapsource install DVD to manage POIs/waypoints, no included USB cable, no TTS (speaks turn directions but not street names), no traffic

This is my second Garmin GPS unit and I am quite happy overall with this purchase. It performs well for most purposes and is an economically priced entry level portable auto GPS with most features one would want. The screen has adjustable brightness and the UI is relatively easy to learn. Roads, ETA, speed and other screen elements are large and text is easily readable without squinting. Display automatically changes depending on day/night. It is WAAS-enabled and locks quickly and is relatively accurate in tracking your location, and finds the satellites quickly compared to my other older model GPS. The size is compact and fits easily into your bag or pocket and can double up as a portable pedestrian GPS. Voice prompts are clear but might take a little getting used to when it says "turn left then turn right"... The rechargeable battery lasts around 3-4 hours and can be charged via USB. (But the USB cable is not provided in the box!) Unfortunately the american version of this unit only comes preloaded with the North America Lower 48 states, Hawaii and Puerto Rico. The other models 250 and 270 come loaded with additional Canada and Alaska maps. My biggest sticking point with it is that it does not come with the Mapsource City Navigator North America NT Install DVD when my previous GPS unit did. The software allows you to upload waypoints and POIs from your PC to the GPS and view the maps and routes on the PC, finding addresses and points on your PC and is immensely useful also when upgrading and uploading new maps to the GPS. You may be able to call customer service to ask for this disk (YMMV) and you need to register your unit to get the unlock code. There are other smaller nice features like an SD card slot for additional memory (to hold more pics and maps), clicking the car icon for current lat/long and elevation, entering lat/long coordinates, putting JPEG photos on the unit and viewing it with the picture viewer, currency converter, calculator etc. If you prefer advanced features like bluetooth, TTS (where the street names are read out), traffic updates and routing (you need to pay monthly subscription), route uploading and tracklogging, you need to go for a higher end Nuvi model. I personally feel TTS isn't a big deal since the street names aren't read out properly anyway (due to limited text to speech technology) and it sounds robotic. This is a good buy. nuff said.

Garmin Nuvi 200
4 Star Review   By member keyonman - Nov 29, 2007

Strengths: thin, plenty of POI, gets good signal, bright screen

Weakness: does not provide name of street when giving directions (TTL), small screen

I just got this day after thanksgiving and so far I am happy with it. I still have my built in GPS on my car but I like that I am able to carry this on any car. Gets signal fast and has beautiful bright screen although small compared to the built in one on my car.

Great Unit at the price
5 Star Review   By member smitamohta - Nov 28, 2007

Strengths: Compact size, Fit's in pocket, expansion slot, custom POI

Great unit for the price paid, works like a charm. Very easy to setup and start using. Maps quite accurate. I think it's overall a very good unit for the price I paid, better options available if paying full price.

Garmin Nuvi 200
4 Star Review   By member chantheman - Nov 26, 2007

Strengths: Garmin user interface, small form factor, bright screen, quickly acquires satellite signal

Weakness: Has difficulty at times with right vs left and one way streets. Suction cup mount can be difficult to remove from window when needed. The screen is a fingerprint magnet.

The Garmin Nuvi 200 is my second GPS unit. My faithful Magellan Roadmate 300 has guided me well, but its mount is beginning to show its age. There will be no more map updates for my Magellan and its chipset is not the new high sensitivity type. In looking for a replacement unit my primary concern was accuracy. While I have been pleased with my Magellan, it does have a tendency to miss some streets and Points of interest that have been around for many years. It also is prone to becoming confused between right and left and around one way streets. The Garmin certainly fills the gaps when it comes to points of interest, but the right, left, and one way street confusion remains. I am beginning to wonder if this is created by something tied to the NAVTEQ mapping. The form factor of the unit is great. My wife likes the thickness. It is thicker than the Magellan Maestro series. I am impressed with the simplicity of design, but strangely I am missing the weight of the Garmin C550 I use for work. There is something robust about the C550 while the Nuvi is best described by my wife as "cute." Finally when it comest to user interface the Garmin outperforms the Magellan. The Magellan was certainly easy to use, but the Garmin seems to be quite a bit more intuitive. It can recognize streets and places with less keystrokes than the Magellan. It seems to be a mind reader at times. I give Garmin two thumbs up for this. The Garmin touchscreen also seems to work better than the screen on my Magellan. The Garmin icons are easier to activate. For the price I paid, this unit certainly is more than I could ask for. If you seek simple operation and an attractive form factor then this could be the unit for you. If you are looking for something more robust look to a Nuvi widescreen receiver or even the Garmin Streetpilot C Series. My Roadmate 300 still works and I am sure I will pull it out from time to time so we can take a trip together.

Great Unit for first time buyers
4 Star Review   By member coolstar2002s - Nov 26, 2007

Strengths: User friendly software interface, compact, lots of POI, custom POI, expandable SD card slot

Weakness: No wall charger, case, car plug shld be coiled, Not pinpoint on location

Great starter unit, very affordable, quality product with decent features. Could be a little cheaper compared to other brands available in marker. Price difference can be justified considering the brand value. I nailed down to two of the GPS in my budget range, TomTom One 3rd edition and Nuvi 200. Reasons why I went for Nuvi was sleeker design, brand name, and mixed reviews on tomtom

Great Bang for the Buck!!
5 Star Review   By member kapnet - Nov 18, 2007

Strengths: Small, thin, easy to use... Does the Job...

Weakness: Nothing that is a deal breaker

I bought this to use on our road trips in Europe and then gave that to a friend... Bought a new one for the US and it works great... Mine came with the 2008 maps loaded and then I updated the POIs off of the Garmin website in minutes... Same mapping program as the more expensive Garmin models... just without all the useful or useless extras... I didnt need the bluetooth, live traffic, etc... I have a headset and can still hear the traffic on 880am... Worth the price tag and very easy to use.. No complicated menus and above average POI (points of interest) database... best of all, you can customize any POI (change address, update phone number, change map symbol) or add your own house or a new bank or a new restaurant within seconds... A very good buy and perfect gift.

Nuvi 200
5 Star Review   By member x98wang9 - Oct 31, 2007

Strengths: Simple to operate; loud enough vioce; bright enough for night and day drives

Weakness: it takes while to locate the Satellite signal sometimes, particular at the starting time.

no Canada and Alaska maps. It does not spell the street names. Do not know the version of the map. But overall, a good deal if all you need is just a GPS.

Nice GPS, but wish a bit more
3 Star Review   By member KDKPSJ - Oct 30, 2007

Strengths: Simple, straight-forward. Smart route calculation

Weakness: No seperate buttons for basic control, ie volume. No zip code entry for address search

I used to have Mio C310x as a my travel guide, but I switched over this boy. Compare to C310x, it does have smarter calculation of route. UI is more simple than Mio's, so you will be easily figure out the way to play around with it. But here are negative things. Unlike C310x, it does not have seperate buttons for volume control. I have to go to menu to just make it louder or quieter. Also, it does not have address search by zip code. Five digit number is easier to memorize than five words if the town name is weird. Overall, it is a good GPS nav, but I'd expect more.

Strengths: Absolutely the easiest piece of equipment to use

Weakness: Personally, I can't think of any

After getting lost and loosing numerous time because of this I decided to purchase this garmin. It is one of the best purchases I have ever made. Simple to operate and I just love it. I now feel so safe having this piece of equipment in my car. I highly recommend this to everyone. I also intend to buy another one for my daughter.

Strengths: ease of use, resolution, brightness, size

Weakness: none so far

This is my first navigation system, but I have used them before in rental cars. Very impressed with this product. Intuitive functionality, good directions. It does not have any extra gadgets (MP players, bluetooth, etc), but I don't need them anyway. I would recommend this product to anyone.

Strengths: compact, loud, good details

Weakness: no blue tooth and text to speech

this is one of the better gps at this price range. the only weaknesses are no bluetooth and doesn't pronouce street names. all the pro outweighs the cons. there are plenty of points of interest at 4.5 millions. the position and directions are very accurate. and the best part is that it is very easy to use and compact.

In comparison with the Magellan Maestro...
5 Star Review   By member rahmati - Oct 16, 2007

Strengths: Excellent interface, finger touchscreen, nice display, NAVTEQ maps, can display coordinates and altitude (& /save/route to them)

Weakness: No support whatsoever for ZIP codes in the US, weak detour function, reception not in par with other typical Sirf III chipset devices

In comparison with the Magellan Maestro, The Nuvi has a much better touchscreen (noticeable when and it has way more POIs (Point Of Interests). However, I miss the excellent detour function of the Maestero, its better routing options, and that it recognized ZIP codes. It's a real shame the Garmins don't recognize ZIP codes in the US :(

Garmin Nuvi 200
4 Star Review   By member mauner26 - Oct 10, 2007

Strengths: Easy to use, great value for price.

Weakness: Doesn't have text-to-speech: see below.

This product is very easy to learn how to use. Love the touch screen. Is very accurate at your position and gives promt directions about a quarter mile in advance of your turns. Only drawback is that it doesn't have text-to-speech. Text-to-speech not only gives you what direction to turn but also gives you the road name. This can be useful at times but overall this product works great.

Garmin nuvi 200 GPS
5 Star Review   By member indigon - Aug 31, 2007

Strengths: Low priced entry level pocket GPS. Compact. New software upgrade from Garmin locks satellites faster. Accurate. Brilliant screen with adjustable brightness & automatic day/night colors. Loud speaker.

Weakness: No bluetooth, No TTS: -> Speaks turn directions, not street names. Has SD card slot, calculater, currency/unit converter, world clock & .jpg viewer with input for custom points of interest (POI's).

Baseline workhorse of the nuvi line. I've had this nuvi model-200 for 12 months now in Hawaii and cannot say enough about it. Excellent easy to learn touch-screen user interface and very rugged. (Mine has survived some major drops on concrete, no problems). I recently upgraded to the nuvi-260 with TTS (see my review on the nuvi-260). .. *New! Garmin has released several new software updates available on their web site and also a flash update for the WAAS enabled Bravo/SiRFstarIII satellite chipset available through their new web updater, along with many new voice languages & new vehicle icons. The unit locks on satellites anywhere in the house now quickly. Streets, direction and ETA are clearly marked on the main map screen. Tap the position indicator anytime for current lat/long/elevation, or enter lat/long coordinates for simple geo-caching or [dry] boating (has off-road navigation mode). Customizable .jpg splash screen. You can upload & view .jpg pics on the unit from a pc via the USB cable or through the SD card slot on the unit. .. The nuvi-200 unit comes with (updated) Navteq NT-2008 maps for the lower 48, Hawaii & Puerto Rico. If you need US/Canada/Alaska try the nuvi-250; or the nuvi-270 which has US/Canada/Alaska + Europe, the new charcoal-black nuvi-260 has US/Canada/Alaska + TTS. TTS = Text to Speech which announces the street names, Interstate numbers, exit numbers and P.O.I. names). The unit comes with a dash mount, car charger and USB cable for updating the unit through your computer (unit will also charge through the USB cable). (I put some stick-on velcro on the back of my unit and on my upper dashboard and it works great!) You can buy online an (optional) Garmin home ac adapter/charger $15. and nice Garmin leather case $15. (recommended). Long 5 hour battery life off a 3-4 hour charge. .. Compact size, about the size of a deck of cards; fits easily in a pocket or small purse. Solidly built, clean looks and simple to learn and use. Excellent entry level pocket GPS for the beginner and experienced users alike. A winner! With prices now well under $200. [street] you cannot go wrong with the nuvi-200. (*Note: The nuvi-260 with US/Alaska/Canada + TTS is now under $250. [street], consider it). The baseline nuvi-200 is a very cool, useful & proven GPS unit, everyone I show it to is amazed. Excellent value at current prices, makes the perfect gift. You will not be disapointed. Never get lost again!

Garmin 200 GPS
5 Star Review   By member ep11365 - Aug 27, 2007

Strengths: Very accurate device, long battery life, easy to use, preloaded maps.

Weakness: The device picks up satellites a little slowly

The GPS is replaced my previous Pioneer AVIC-S1. After several times tested. It is really a good gear. More accurate map and more powerful battery life than S1. I haven't looked at the LCD panel once because the audio direction is very clear and easy to use. I haven't had any problems with accuracy and the POI's are very handy in unfamiliar areas. I love this GPS unit and would recommend it to anyone who gets lost easily!

4 Star Review   By member lrjoe - Aug 2, 2007

Strengths: nice portable size, good voice directions, easy to use, plenty POIs, nice visual mapping, uses NAVTEQ mapping

Weakness: sometimes it takes a while to obtain a satellite signal

First used this on our California vacation. The very first day, it wouldn't get a satellite signal. Don't know what the problem was because we made sure it was charged up beforehand, so unfortunately, we didn't have a backup map and relied mainly on our instincts and road signs. But, after that, we tried it again the next day of our vacation. It took a while to obtain the signal, but when it did, it worked quite well. We liked the voice directions and it got us to our destinations. It was handy to have the POIs to help us find eateries. All in all, it is a good device to have, but it might be good to have a map just in case you don't get satellite reception.
