Good for one days use only.
1 Star Review

Strengths: size

Weakness: Everything else

We purchased this unit as an extra for our household. Our daughter used the player for one day using brand new discs and then after that day it would not recognize any disc. Called Cyberhome for what to do and found that the company has gone out of business. Luckily it was right after purchase was able to get the retailer to take it back. Did consider getting replacement but when found out company was out of business I will by different brand. Buyer Beware. Check return policies, and such.

Cheap for good reasons
2 Star Review   By member mattphil - Jan 10, 2007

Strengths: Small Size, Inexpensive, still mostly works

Weakness: No display, sometimes sound doesn't work, skips some parts of dvd

I bought this dvd player for about $35 a couple of years ago because I needed one and this was about the cheapest. If it had been any more expensive, I would be upset that I had bought it. The most annoying thing is that occasionally when you put in a DVD to play, there is no sound. The only way to get the sound to work again is to unplug the entire dvd player and plug it back in. We've tried ejecting then reinserting the disk, power on and off, etc, but nothing has ever worked except unplugging it! The first time this happened was probably about a year into owning it, then it started happening rarely, now it seems to happen about every three times we use it. Just today I realized that at the point in the dvd where it switches layers (when there is often a slight pause in the movie) the player skipped a section of the movie. I was watching "Million Dollar Baby" and missed the part where the fighter talks about her dad and her dog, so when it was referenced later in the movie my girlfriend and I were a bit confused. I started laughing and this is a part of the movie when laughter is a bit inappropriate. All-in-all, I wouldn't bother buying this dvd player again. But, it still pretty much works and I don't feel like I wasted money buying it.

Strengths: cheap and compact

Weakness: stops playing

this is my 2nd one - within a week, the 1st started freezing. after replacing it, the 2nd one within 6 months does not even play (freezes up and can't even eject disc). it's cheap, but not not worth the hassle.

Big guy in small package!
5 Star Review   By member desi101 - Oct 12, 2006

Strengths: Cheap, Zone free, Region free, 110/220 V DVD Player

Weakness: None so far.

Please don't go by the small size of this DVD Player - it does the superb job just like most other big DVD Players! I own this DVD Player for more than a year now and it has been working perfectly. The main two reasons I bought this DVD Player was - 1) It was dirt cheap (around $40 from Amazon with $20 rebate) 2) It was region free / zone free with 110/220 V. Meaning it can work in Asia/Europe without any problems and I was planning to take it to Asia. I never took it outside USA but I am happy with the job. I have A/V receiver where I send DVD Player connection and A/V receiver goes to my 42" plasma and quality is fine. This DVD player has Component, S-video and composite video output.

Broken
1 Star Review   By member ideogram - Jul 25, 2006

Strengths: cheap

Weakness: cheap

This unit broke within hours of being turned on. When I called the customer service number I got a recorded message saying their phone and email service is currently unavailable. Email to customer service bounced. I am not pleased and probably out forty bucks.

not durable
1 Star Review

Strengths: Inexpensive.

Weakness: Cheap parts. Breaks easily.

After 6 months of very infrequent use, the cheap plastic bracket that allows the lens assembly to slide back and forth to read the DVD broke. One of the eyelets that slides on the metal rail broke off. This kept the lens assembly from being able to move. Superglue could not fix. Seems a shame to throw away an otherwise funtioning product over a plastic bit that might cost 5 cents.

Will not buy again
2 Star Review   By member wrwhiteside - May 6, 2006

Strengths: Price, size, ability to play multiple formats (PAL, NTSC, MP3)

Weakness: Quality

After about 8-10 months of using this product (bought it from Best Buy), I get quite frequent freezes and skips in my movie, and it doesn't matter which DVD I have in. Sometimes the freezing is so bad I have to eject and re-insert the DVD to resume what appears to be a fix for this issue. Luckily, it does startup where the movie left off when doing this.

CyberHome CH-DVD 300/S DVD Player
1 Star Review

Strengths: Low cost; plays most DVD formats; compact

Weakness: Lasted less than 9 months; began making noise; stopped playing all DVDs

I bought this for our children's play room. We thought we bought a great DVD player for the price; compact and easy to use. However, this player began making noises after inserting a DVD to play after the 4th month. After the 6th month of occasional use, it began showing signs of intermittent play problems with DVDs. On the 9th month, it stopped playing altogether any DVD. Obviously, the quality of the DVD player is lacking. This poor quality and poor craftmanship, hopefully, is isolated to this one DVD player, but I also noted seeing someone else at this site having same quality issues less than 12 months after purchase.

Strengths: Plays MP3, DVD, SVCD, CD, VCD. and compact.

Weakness: Parts don't last long. Changed 2 player already. 1st one lasted 3 months. 2nd one lasted 6 months.

If you want to have an emergency DVD player, its the cheaPEST. Don't expect this unit to work for some time, it will break down very soon. DO NOT buy this brand.

Excellent inexpensive DVD player
4 Star Review   By member ahitron - Jan 5, 2006

Strengths: Inexpensive, small

Weakness: Remote control is not the greatest

The CH-DVD 300 is a terrific and inexpensive DVD player. It's small enough to fit about anywhere, but has great features such as progressive scan component output, and it's played anything I've thrown at it (although to be fair, I haven't been too adventurous). My only complaint is that the remote control is far from intuitive; I often have to turn on a light to find the pause or menu buttons.

Picture Brightness goes up and down all the time; even when Brand NEW!
1 Star Review   By member electronicsnut - Dec 30, 2005

Strengths: Dual voltage and plays most formats

Weakness: Picture quality; remote size and battery; the damm standby-power light; no display-a big minus for mp3s

Hi there, Got it last december; didn't open from the box until Feb/March. The picture brightness goes from min to max; i.e., all the way up and down constantly. Couldnt return it as the exchange time was up. Noticed that someone else had the same issue. Wonder as to how many lemons are out there? Yes, the damm light stays on all the time and does not change. The disk spinning noise is loud. Remote is too small for avg. American hands. Maybe good for tiny ones tested in Asia. The print is too small and I guess that the non-standard battery is also an issue. Good Points: Plays almost all formats; except for Divx, .dat etc. Small foot print. Excellent price - no wonder VHS is becoming extinct. Dual voltage and region free is a big plus for those who travel and to give as a gift! Probably will not buy this product ever again.

CyberHome CH-DVD 300/S DVD Player
2 Star Review

Strengths: Price, price, price

Weakness: There have been reported problems with these players, including cheap power supplies and problems scanning disks.

We've had 3 of these that we purchased about 8 months ago. Of those 3, two have stopped working. On one, the power supply died, on the other, it stopped reading disks. Both of this issues have been documented elsewhere. If you don't mind taking a chance, it's OK for the price you pay.

Strengths: Cheap, small, nice design

Weakness: remote doesn't use AA or AAA batteries

Overall a pretty good DVD player especially for the money. It plays all burned media that I use (CD-R, DVD+-RW). Nice small design. The only thing I don't like is that the remote doesn't use standard AA or AAA batteries.

Affordable, easily portable in your briefcase, easy to use not too complicated. The remote is quite small and light weight. The controls are marked with different colors; no need to search for the controls... This comes with a dual voltage and right price ($40) for the available features.

4 Star Review   By member fireflymk - Jun 12, 2005

Strengths: The price is pretty unbeatable. Small and light.

Weakness: It is a bit noisy when a disc is spinning at times. The remote control battery is harder to replace than a readily avaliable common AA or AAA battery.

I purchased this player for its small weight of 3 1/2 lbs because I wanted to take it abroad in my carry-on suitcase without it taking too much space. My friend owns this player and has had it for a year. It plays without problems and is still functioning. This player does not play computer files such as divx or xvid, but for the price it is still a good purchase as it does play JPEG, MP3, DVD, VCD/SVCD and burned media (CD-R/RW, DVD +/-R, DVD RW) in those formats.

Strengths: Price. Reads many DVD+-R/RW brands.

Weakness: Power light on all the time, even in standby.

Very impressive for what it cost. It reads more DVD+-R/RW brands than my Toshiba does. It has progressive scan which I wouldn't have thought a model at this price level would have. I just needed a cheap DVD player for a back room for occasional use. This one fits the bill nicely.

Strengths: Plays almost any media you record on, many players are paticular about brand of media and will "freeze" on playback. Great price, very compact.

Weakness: very short life span, lasted less that 12 months. remote very small, only symbols on player for modes, most Americans can read, also the symbols are so small you need 20/20 to read them.

Overall don't buy, you do get what you pay for!! Was really upset when player shorted out 11 months after purchase. I will stick with brand names in the future, a little more money, but at least they last.
