Apple iPhone
4 Star Review  laptopmag.com - Jul 6, 2007

It's better than you think. The near-seamless slab of glass and metal that is Apple's iPhone has more preconceived-notion-shattering surprises than any piece of technology since, well, the iPod. A mind-blowing touchscreen experience, the best browser on any smart phone, blazing performance that puts Windows Mobile devices to shame. It's all here. So why are we left wanting more?

Apple iPhone - 8GB (AT&T)
4 Star Review  cnet.com - Jun 30, 2007

THE GOOD: The Apple iPhone has a stunning display, a sleek design, and an innovative multitouch user interface. Its Safari browser makes for a superb Web surfing experience, and it offers easy-to-use apps. As an iPod, it shines. THE BAD: The Apple iPhone has variable call quality and lacks some basic features found in many cell phones, including stereo Bluetooth support and 3G compatibility. Integrated memory is stingy for an iPod, and you have to sync the iPhone to manage music content. THE BOTTOM LINE: Despite some important missing features, a slow data network, and call quality that doesnt always deliver, the Apple iPhone sets a new benchmark for an integrated cell phone and MP3 player.

iPhone 2G | 8GB
3 Star Review  productwiki.com - Oct 10, 2009

The first generation Apple iPhone was touted as a total revolution in mobile devices. The iPhone boasts an impressive list of features and specifications and is summed up in 3 ways: iPod + cell phone + Internet connectivity. Any traditional forms of interacting with mobile devices has been stripped away to leave room for one large touchscreen. The first generation iPhone has been superceded by the iPhone 3G, and more recently the iPhone 3GS which most adds 3G network support and GPS functionality in a slightly smaller form factor. Interaction is achieved through touching the screen, not with a stylus, but with fingers. This has allowed Apple to create more advanced forms of touch interaction that includes multi-point gestures (for example, zoom in on a section of a web-page by pinching the screen with 2 fingers). Features accelerometer (to detect orientation) Wi-Fi Bluetooth stripped down version of OSX iPod music, video ... PROS: (1) Innovative touchscreen gesturing UI (2) Two-finger interface to resize images (3) screen with high dpi which is easier on the eyes (4) Great web browser for such a small device (5) A lot of smart and convenient features that make the overall device very polished ... CONS: (1) Not 3G yet (2) Expensive. (3) Cannot replace battery - soldered to the motherboard (4) No GPS support (5) Available from one service provider only

iPhone: Sleek, Fast and Innovative
5 Star Review

Strengths: Touch Screen, Unlimited Internet Access to any website, Bulit in Email, iPod, Camera, etc.

Weakness: Cannot send Picture Texts, Cannot shoot videos, Freezes sometimes

I'm definitely happy I bought this phone, many people were telling me not to buy it because the phone has a glitch. There really is no glitch, besides sometimes it will freeze for a few seconds and sometimes it will exit out of Safari on its own. There are so many features on this phone, it's UNBELIEVABLE! There's a few things I wish I did have on the phone but it's not anything major. The graphics on the phone are revolutionary, and beautiful. Very cool design and not many other phones are this up to date in style. The keyboard is very simple, just like that of a computer and I can type pretty fast on it after having it for about 9 months now (it does take time to get used to). The phone has regular updates where it adds new features to the phone. The most recent update was when the new iPhone 3G came out. I can now add new applications like games, radio, blogging networks... pretty much anything you can think of. All I do is push a button to install it and just like that I have a new button on my menu where I can access this cool, new application. I could honestly talk about all the neat things this phone has for days. If you're thinking about going for a smartphone, go for the iPhone. It's the most advanced phone out there. I also highly suggest going to apple.com to watch the demonstration videos for the phone and you can also look at everything the phone features.

2 Star Review

Strengths: Gr8 Interface and design

Weakness: integrated battery,no MMS , no video capture , no text message forwarding . speakerphone to weak , bluetooth doesn't work to good .

iPhone is having gr8 design and interface to play around. Also i love to enjoy surfing on my iPhone. Connect any where it EDGE but not too fast. U can't forward message.. voice quality during calls is really bad..I was struggling to talk on roads, streets and market place. integrated battery.. Apple is mad or what.. what i am going to do after 4 years..it is crazy stuff by apple. and worst part is only one service provider ATT. 3rd class service provider. No discount on iPhone and u r forced to use their service else go for unlock. if u unlock then u can not receive any update from Apple. and if by mistake u go for upgrade..say bye bye to ur device. iTune will lock ur phone for ever.

iphone is the only phone!!!
5 Star Review   By member KishCabo - Jan 22, 2008

Strengths: Everything

Weakness: No voice recorder!!!

What can I say about the iphone that you haven't already heard if you're reading this review?! I guess I can just give my added 2 cents...so here goes. I had a blackberry, but gave it up b/c it was too expensive considering I didn't use it that often and too bulky. I wanted a phone that did more, but didn't have a exorbitantly expensive monthly fee. Nothing that was on the market impressed me until the iphone came out and I actually saw how cool it was and what it could do. However, I wouldn't have bought the iphone if the monthly fee was ridiculous, but to my pleasant surprise, based on my needs and usage, I found a monthly fee that was reasonable and worth it for all the additional features and usage I get out of my iphone. The best feature for me, being a busy nursing student with tons of classes, labs, appointments, etc is the calendar feature where I can put in all my activities so I know where I need to be at all times. My phone is always with me so having this at a glance is really valuable. I use the "notes" feature quite a bit to jot down little reminders to myself. The touch screen qwerty keyboard is major cool and fast. My sister texted me, "how is it I can text back so fast, I must text a lot?" I told her, "it's because of my touch screen allowing me the ability to text so fast." She was impressed. Being able to view the temperature let's me know what to wear before I leave the house so that's pretty cool. Finally, the built in ipod is great. It's another perk that reduces the number of items I have to carry with me. Essentially, I have a phone, pda and ipod all in one and in a small compact package. How cool is that, not to mention, efficient. The only note of discontent is that I wish a voice recorder was a feature of the ipod so I didn't have to carry a separate one with me to record class lectures or verbally remind myself of something when I have a quick thought I want to remember, but can't write down then and there. Other than that, the iphone rocks and I still haven't exploited all the cool things I can do!

5 Star Review   By member anopenmind - Jan 21, 2008

Strengths: Ease of use, syncing, and support.

Weakness: None I can find yet.

This thing has changed my life. What ease, in every aspect from the web to appointments, and even text . But most of all what puts me over the top with this phone is the support from Apple, Any question is answered with ease and no run around. Puts my Treo to shame.

8G iPhone
3 Star Review

Strengths: doesn't need stylus - intuitive

Weakness: Keyboard to small - annoying to type out messages; no cut and paste for email; occasionally locks up

Got the first one for my bride because it was easy. Technology made it is to use as a phone, and she being technology challenged, loved it and now gives me a bad time if her email hiccups! My phone locked up and had to be returned for 'repair' - bummer. Hopefully, the new iPhone will work. Most annoyed, but Apple has reasonable customer support - reasonable compared to no support for most other phones.

Best phone in the market
4 Star Review   By member hedson - Jan 10, 2008

Strengths: Touch screen operation, full web browser, iPod touch included, WIFI, 3rd party APPs to come

Weakness: No Java, no real GPS, headphone jack not compatible with most high-end phones

iPhone is arguably the best phone in the market, the feature set is solid - SMS chat, a full web browser, google maps, WIFI connectivity. the touch screen is fantastic, full colored (16m), bright. the most impressive thing is the multi-touch feature, you can zoom, a web page/picture in a breeze. I'm fascinated by how accurate the touch can be pinned on the screen, i.e. when I am typing with the virtual keyboard. it's a huge leap over the last generation stylus-based touch technology. the bad things? sure, compared to the Nokia n95, there is no download function although the safari is a 'full browser', no copy/paste, no hardware GPS, no 3G connectivity (not much difference if you only browse on it). I have a Nokia n95 and a blackberry, among the 3 I would pick iPhone. sure it doesn't do all that the n95 can, but it fits my daily usage profile. highly recommended!

i thought it will be better . i am very disapointed . i have bought this phone because i have belived it is the best phone on the market , touch screen , internet , email and all this great stuff that this phone has . i would never expect that iphone doesn't have picture messaging and no option to forward received text message also speakerphone is so weak u can barely hear it . no video capture and i think the battery will become a problem in couple years. i would expect more from this very expensive phone and from apple . i would not buy it again

Apple iPhone - 8GB
4 Star Review   By member bbao8827 - Nov 15, 2007

Strengths: Browser, Large Screen, E-mail, Multi-touch

Weakness: Typing, No-3g, no removable Battery, 8gb Only

The phone of course look lovely, the browser features are amazing as well as the mail client. Though the lack of iChat, as well as 3g was a disappointment. What i really dont like is the keyboard. It rarely gets the input right as well as fixing it, it does fix some but not as good as it should be. The biggest downside is surely the typing. Also 8gb is not enough, and edge is not good enough to browse with.

i thought it will be better . i am very disapointed . i have bought this phone because i have belived it is the best phone on the market , touch screen , internet , email and all this great stuff that this phone has . i would never expect that iphone doesn't have picture messaging and no option to forward received text message also speakerphone is so weak u can barely hear it . no video capture and i think the battery will become a problem in couple years. i would expect more from this very expensive phone and from apple . i would not buy it again

Pros by far outweigh the Cons!
5 Star Review

Strengths: Safari, Camera, ipod, Phone, Email, youtube, touchscreen!!!

Weakness: Can't recieve picture messages, Safari slow at times, low volume when on speaker or playing ipod without headphones. Have to buy an adapter to use non apple headphones, no Flash & Quicktime.

This is truly a great device. I love this phone and it lived up to the hype. Reception is good, never dropped a call, and just the overall cool factor. I don't use the phone for business so the problems I heard don't affect me. No product is perfect and i'm sure that apple is going to make it better when the next gen version come out, but the two biggest for me is speaker volume and the inabilty to recieve and send picture messages. I simply hate the low @ss speaker volume. I don't always want to put on headphones to listen to the ipod or hold the phone to my ear when talking to someone. It'll be nice if the phone was on par with nextel in terms of loudness. Also the ringer could be louder as well, but then i don't really have a problem cause it vibrates unless i'm in the car with the radio playing. I could use the higher volume when i need to set the alarm clock. I think it's backwards that you have to go online to view a picture that someone sends you. I know email is an option, but text pictures is still quite popular. While the edge network is slow at times, for the most part it serves it putpose, i wasn't expecting the speed to be on par with my home pc. apple also needs to get flash and Quicktime on this puppy, which i'm sure will be coming in the future. Overall a great phone that's almost perfect.

best phone ever
5 Star Review   By member jptjx - Oct 30, 2007

Strengths: touch screen, you tube, great service

Weakness: can't send or receive multimedia to other phones, email only works with a few

messed with the phone, then had to have one. I'm so glad I switched from verizon to att, they have way better service. The phone itself is everything the hype was.....

Great for traveling
5 Star Review

Strengths: directions on the go, up-to-date weather, stocks and the ability to utilize multiple email accounts, travels well

Weakness: no games, can't navigate with gloves on.

Just traveled for the first time, with my iphone and without my laptop. I was able to do 90% of whatever computing I needed and without carrying a large case and going through security with a laptop. :-)) Edge network works fine as a backup, when there is no wifi. Film cover for the face really protects the front from scratches. With the adapter, I can still utilize my standard headphones, etc. The bluetooth earpiece is small and last a long time. I forgot I was wearing it. As a person who had the other pda/phone combo, this is much simpler, user friendly device. I would suggest getting the iphone book sold at Apple stores. There you can learn to adapt the phone to whatever situation you're in. Unlike a previous review, I found it easy to silence my phone or turn on the ringer, when necessary. The camera is the best, for a camera phone, I've ever used. Great phone!

Best smart phone for the consumer
5 Star Review   By member dmjseller - Oct 22, 2007

Strengths: Amazing touch interface, slick design, full web browser

Weakness: Wish it had true GPS function to work with Google Maps

I upgraded from a Palm Treo 650 and the iPhone is light years ahead. Every aspect of the interface is polished to perfection, and the phone is pure joy to use. I have never come across any electronic gadget, save for the iPhone, that met or exceeded all advertised functions. The iphone simply excels at what all the ads say it does - ipod functions, web browsing, google maps and directions, photos - every thing works exactly as advertised. Apple has promised to add functionality over time, and currently has added over-the-wifi downloads from the iTunes store. As is usual for Apple, this implementation of this new feature is as slick as the rest of the phone. Bottom line - this is the BEST consumer smart phone.

It's the iPhone!!! Great or not!!!
4 Star Review   By member izzmo7998 - Oct 15, 2007

Strengths: Nice size, excellent screen, nice design, and a full deal browser.

Weakness: No 3G, No support to sync corporate e-mail, expensive, pretty much SIM is locked to AT&T.

The iphone is a nice phone, but not great. AT&T and Apple lock this phone down which is not right since we spend so much on it. Other phones you can request an unlock code, why not this one. Beside the SIM lock down, you have the apple lock down. You can add any application, which limits you. But the phone is good. Sounds clear for all calls. The browser is great for surfing the web, but no 3G. Why??? Music sounds great like other iPods. Great builtin features such as utube, gmail, itunes, etc. Overall great phone if you a regular consumer and don't need corporate e-mail.

Iphone is Awesome
5 Star Review   By member jaychinut - Oct 15, 2007

Strengths: Great web browsing features, friends love it

Weakness: at&t, no video capture, complicated to unlock yourself if you're not planning to use at&t.

Took me a few days of googling to hack this phone to work with t-mobile. It comes with 1.1.1 OS out of the box now. So I downgraded to 1.02 OS and used iphonesimfree.com to unlock it. News has it that a new "free" sim unlock is coming out soon from anysim. I paid $59 to unlock it. Anyways I couldn't wait for the free unlock.

Excellent device limited by some extent by Apple
4 Star Review   By member x0lliex - Oct 8, 2007

Strengths: Excellent interface, best web browser ever on a phone, easy to use, great iPod

Weakness: EDGE network, 3rd party apps not allowed by Apple, no VOIP client, mail auto-check can be unreliable, no iChat

I have used this phone since July and love it. It brings so many features together into one device. The keyboard is great, although it does take some getting used to. The web browser is by far the best browser ever on a mobile phone. The interface is excellent, so easy to use. There are some small problems with the device. Firstly, use of the EDGE network instead of 3G. This wouldn't be too bad if the reliability of edge was good, but I find that many times of day, edge can slow to a crawl, whereas at other times, edge browsing can be somewhat snappy. Secondly, Apple's dislike of 3rd party apps. They have issued an update which deliberately breaks 3rd party apps, when in reality, they were simply filling the gaps that Apple left. No AIM/MSN client, no VOIP client, no games. I really hope that Apple warm up to 3rd part apps because if they do this phone can be made even better. Overall, if you are the kind of person that has to carry around an iPod and a phone, then the iPhone is for you. All the iPhone needs is a few more software updates to fix safari/iPod crashes, add 3rd party app support and to add the ability to add your own custom ringtones rather than having to purchase them from iTunes.

iPhone: Good Job by Jobs
5 Star Review   By member rykwon97 - Oct 4, 2007

Strengths: OSX-based, User Friendly, Bluetooth, Wireless, Ipod + Phone, Web Browser

Weakness: Lack of 3rd Party Apps, No Exchange Support, No 802.11x Support

This is my very first attempt at a smartphone so I come into the game with no BlackBerry bias. I bought the iPhone primarily as a means to have cell phone and mobile email capabilities, the web browser and ipod were added bonuses. While the price is a bit more than most, considering all the possibilities, I think the iPhone to be a good bargain. The phone has very good reception and wifi/edge integration works very well. Email is very sharp with the only limitations being lack of exchange support and only limited time intervals to check email. Ipod...works great like the others ipods. The interface of the iphone is very sleek and easy to navigate through setting/functions. I feel that one of the greatest assets of the iPhone is the ability to continuously update the functions with future firmware releases. I think that many of the drawbacks can be fixed and make the strong much better than it already is. I consider the iPhone to be very good attempt by Apple to enter the cell phone market. I would recommend it to anyone.

Just about everything expected
4 Star Review   By member ramuman - Oct 2, 2007

Strengths: Screen, integration with OS X and Windows, size

Weakness: Chrome bezel, integrated battery etc, some features not present out of the box, contract

I've never seen a gadget with this much hype. However, for the most part it lives up to expectations. First, the problems. I'm running 1.1.1 and was on 1.0.2. I'll assume users are on 1.1.1. The chrome bezel scratches easily, as badly as the iPod's back of years past. There is no wireless sync support (not even contacts and appointments). This basically relegates Bluetooth to the headset. Also, the phone still has quirks I'm not a fan of. For example, there is no way to go to silent when the phone is out of the dock and to a ringer when it is in the dock. Being that I only have one phone at home, I like to be able to hear my phone ring at home and keep it silent at home automatically. This is something Nokia has had for at least 5 years. Other issues have been covered here already. Also, where is copy and paste? On the plus side, the screen is gorgeous and Safari is about as usable as you could expect on that size. Sync works well with both iCal and Outlook, and appointments made in Outlook and on the iPhone work well with each other. Multitouch and auto correction work well enough and the phone is a joy to use, but the novelty wears off pretty fast. After that it's just a solid phone.

iPhone 8GB Smartphone (GSM, Bluetooth, 2MP, 8GB)
5 Star Review   By member tkps - Sep 28, 2007

Strengths: Very reliable operating system. Many functions can be added.

Weakness: Slow connection due to lack of 3G. No business account holders support.

This is one of the greatest phone I have used. It is unfortunate that the system only allows ATT. It would sell a whole lot if ATT allows business accounts as well. Other than that, this is the phone which will change them all.

iPhone 8GB
5 Star Review   By member jinyu1 - Sep 23, 2007

Strengths: Sleek design, excellent user interface

Weakness: None so far. It would be perfect if it had built-in GPS receiver.

I bought the 8GB iPhone when its price came down to $399. It has 7.3GB left for storage (music, etc). So that's more than my 1st generation 4GB Nano. The iPhone is a full featured PDA phone. The user interface is simply amazing. Its touch keyboard is a little bit slower than hardware keyboard on my Dash, but works fine most of the time (I have small fingers). The only thing missing is built-in GPS receiver (But I think only one of the Blackberries has that feature). With GPS, this device could truly replace all my portable devices. Anyway, the Google Maps feature is still great for that purpose.

cool design
5 Star Review   By member nelson714 - Sep 18, 2007

Strengths: safari, awesome screen, wifi

Weakness: Can't copy contacts from SIM, battery

So I've been playing with my iphone since last week, and here's what I've found so far: WiFi works great - no problems connecting or switching between networks - and very fast EDGE is not so bad - EDGE is all I can get at work, and its not nearly as slow as I thought it might be. The pages I've looked up all opened within a few seconds - definitely no 2 minute waits so far (as had been mentioned in some reviews) Safari is much better than I thought it would be - especially since I don't use it on my MacBook. But I imported my bookmarks into Safari, and they synced automatically with the iphone - very nice. SYNCING VIDEO- I know the CNET review said you couldn't manually manage videos, but I could - I had the option to add any of several movies in my list, and just checked the ones i wanted - very nice, since that way you can control how much memory video takes up. and videos look AMAZING. SYNCING Music So it only holds 8GB. ok, its not the same as my 80GB ipod, but isn't that what smart playlists are for? It is as much as a Nano, only with video. Activation Very fast, very easy. My phone was activated in about 5 minutes from start to finish. I didn't get my employer's discount, but I already knew that was going to happen, and I didn't get it before. Touch Screen- very responsive, menus are very clear and easy to use. The keyboard is easy to get used to, and much easier then texting with T9 - and I have pretty fat fingers. Also, I haven't had any problems operating one handed - very easy, at least in iPod and Safari modes. So the downside? Can't copy contacts from old SIM to iPhone SIM. What's up with that? AT&T offered to sell me a flash drive for ~$20 so I could transfer them to my computer then to iPhone. Crazy. No Flash - I didn't think this would be an issue. But it would be nice to have. FYI, you can't see the weather.com radar in motion. Non-Issues (for me) AT&T service - I already had AT&T service, so I know what to expect, and here in the middle of fly-over country, AT&T has good coverage. Much better than sprint, who I had before. No voice dialing- I had it before, never used it. Never found it useful, since it would never recognize the name I was saying (like Al, or MOM). Non-replaceable battery The only time I've ever replaced a batter is when I dropped my phone in water (a lot of water). So for me, another non-issue.

I love this iPhone!
5 Star Review

Strengths: everything about it is superior to other phones I have had

I bought this phone before Microsoft cut the price and thought I had a bargain even then. I took the phone back to AT&T and they gave me credit on my bill for $200 which made the deal even sweeter.

Incredible pocket computer (much more than a phone)!
5 Star Review

Strengths: It does everything but make your coffee in the morning, and it fits in your pocket!

Weakness: No third party software (YET), AT&T's Edge network is super slow, and, uh, that's it.

It's basically the most incredible cell phone I've ever seen, let alone used. Anyone who would rather stick to their Blackberry than change to this is basically too stupid or narrow-minded (or simply Apple-phobic) to understand why this is superior in every way. Is your Blackberry also an iPod that can surf full resolution web pages over 802.11 networks at full speed? Does your Blackberry have a display that that's as big and bright as the iPhone? Are the stores even able to get rid of their Blackberrys now that the iPhone came out? Buying a Blackberry today is like buying a VCR today. Can you say "obsolete?" I've seen the future, and it's made by Apple.

A must have!!!
5 Star Review

Strengths: everything you want in a portable handheld devise (i.e. e-mail, web access, stock info, weather, etc...). All at your fingertips. Well done Apple!

Weakness: Minor stuff (i.e. ear piece speaker could be louder, battery life)

Short and sweet, it's the best phone on the market. I use it for personal use and for work (e-mails) and this phone covers all my needs. I highly recommend giving this phone a look before purchasing a Blackberry.

Awesome Phone!!
5 Star Review   By member SexyCoolguy - Jul 26, 2007

Strengths: Beautiful Design, Cool interface, great ipod, great phone.

Weakness: Edge network a little slow. Needs more native applications.

By far the best phone I've ever had. Very intuitive interface, great email and internet functionality. The ipod interface is the best yet. The EDGE network is a bit slow compared to today's standards, but what can you say to a 20 dollar unlimited date plan. Bottomline, this phone isn't for the businessman, its a hip/cool phone with some business functionality, but lets face it, it's built to be cool.

The new Apple iPhone is striking
4 Star Review

Strengths: Almost every feature is stunning

Weakness: Standby time

Apple's new iPhone has all the features that would certainly strike the mobile users. And all this could have been to better satisfaction, had the cell provided better stand by time, which is just around 25 hrs(approx) as I found it in most reviews. Overall a good to invest gadget.

Strengths: Everything in one device, isn't it amazing and on the top of it its sexiest model in the phone device

Weakness: No weakness according to me

you can buy it anytime no need wait. really amazing. I was waiting for iphone version 2.0 but when I see it I can say there won't be any version 2.0. There are only 3 buttons and verly slick what could be new in version 2.0 might be some service pack and patches.
