3 Star Review   By lwinkle on Sony - Official Store - Dec 26, 2013

I'm very disappointed with this Head Unit. After reading about it I bought it because of mirror link and because I have an iPhone. Too bad the small pring tells you it does ot work with all the features of the iPhone5. I also read I could add the XA-NV100T Tom Tom for navigation. Well it has been discontinued and after searching the web for any add on that will work with this unit. I Quit. Nothing Will! Very Dissappointed with Sony on this. Gus

Horrible Purchase
1 Star Review   By Ian13 on Sony - Official Store - Dec 22, 2013

Receiver works ok but that's about it, the GPS receiver is not available and no other one has been made available after more than a year. Most android devices do not work with this unit, basically just Sony products. For the price its inadequate to say the least. I spent top dollar to get a poorly backed product. Every call to customer care for a resolution gained nothing but more frustration. I should also say I have a 2000W Sony X-plod system that I've been upgrading for over 12 years, and have been happy up till this purchase.

Good cool looking HU
5 Star Review   By Datastar on Sony - Official Store - Jul 10, 2013

Almost returned this HU b/c the interface was iffy, was not satisfied with the XM antenna. Connecting the HU was not too difficult.. Purchased: PAC RP4-CH11 Factory Steering Wheel Integration Adapter, SiriurXM SXV200V1 Tuner, & Sony XAR800C backup camera. Some of the connections was not obvious; I'm very techy computer person. Tech spt was able to solve my connection problems in minutes. BT was a breeze to connect to my Samsung GS3 4.1.1 (none rooted# Call quality very good on both ends. Overview says U can use Pandora via BT; I read some post that it didn't work. Default settings is iPhone via USB #There is LIFE beyond the iPhone#; I changed the settings to Android/Blackberry via BT and it works great; you even get all the information on the HU. I didn't like the HD at first because I was only able to get 2 of the most powerful broadcast stations in Atlanta. Tech Spt informed me I had to connect 3rd blue #antenna) wire to the mix now sound is great on HD radio with plenty of stations. MirorLink- I downloaded the DriveLink app from the Play Store and it was a joke with little options not worth the time. I really like it now that I updated the firmware and installed the modified DriveLink App from XDA Developers on my GS3. I can send DVD video to the back seat monitor and my granddaughter loves it so I'm happy too. I have not tried the USB video and audio options yet. XM presets are not on XM home screen.

dont belive the hype
3 Star Review   By HittinSwitches on Sony - Official Store - May 25, 2013

I was so excited when i first heard about this receiver especially when i heard it worked with the Galaxy S3 which i had just purchased. after weeks of bugging my dealer as to when they would have it since release was delayed, i took out a Alpine 910 to put this in. While overall it is a good headunit with great sound the fact that you have Sony's top end headunit with no optional navigation module (which i regretfully found out after i bought the unit) & if you do navigation by mirror-link you cant play Cd's, satellite, radio ect. ... so if your on a long trip all you get is music OR navigation NOT BOTH .... PLUS if your on a long trip the radio does not charge the phone so i have had my phone die on me on trip so i lost navigation ..... I'm amazed that Sony thought this was a great idea.... In theory this is great and should be the direction that car audio is headed shortsightedness and probably a rush to get something out leaves me wishing i would have stuck with alpine and waited for what should be a obvious revision of this unit

Do NOT buy this if you want NAV. No Support
1 Star Review   By XDrive on Sony - Official Store - Feb 25, 2013

This review is from a guy with a GTI who has lots of Sony products like the Duo 11 laptop, NEX-5N camera, a Tablet S, PS3 and even the Sony Creative software suite. I bought this receiver pretty much the moment it became available because of the flashy promos saying how loaded it was and because of past experience with Sony products. My old Kenwood had Garmin navigation built in, but this Sony offered a separate, USB TomTom XANV100T navigation module because it would always be there in the car, adding value to it, I'd have no subscription to pay and I wouldn't have to plug my phone every single time I got in the car. However, I quickly discovered it had been discontinued. Discontinued after like one month of releasing this new receiver. Sony has erased all evidence of its existence. Go ahead. Try to find it anywhere on the planet. Just download the free Telenav app on your iPhone, you say? I did and it literally says, "Telenav GPS is taking a backseat, with no more new versions...Get Scout for free now." Even if Sony is working on a firmware that will let Scout work with this receiver, I do not want to have to keep plugging in my phone each time I get in the car. btw, I couldn't get it to work. The receiver is already installed so I don't think returning would be an easy option. Thanks, Sony. To be fair, and if you're still interested, this receiver does boot quickly, has a nice screen, the interface is well laid out, and every thing is very responsive, although sometimes, the volume button lags and you may accidentally blast the volume. I like that it always shows the phone status (battery, signal strength). It also pairs almost immediately and very reliably. The sound quality is okay as the 7-band EQ has some poorly chosen frequencies and only adjusts what looks like +/- 6dB which does not really let you do much to correct the dull sound. I use an Audison Bit Ten D processor and now the Sony does sound very good, crisp, clear and lively. The HD Radio tuner sounds awesome and some stations even provide album artwork. The iPhone/iPod interface is okay. I just wish it had larger artwork and scrolling through large lists should tell you what letter you are on. The reverse camera function is good. I haven't tried mirror link and some of the other options but overall, this could have been a great receiver. The lack of built in nav is a major fail, since it's a feature that can be revoked and was, by Sony and/or TomTom. Sony can rectify this situation by once again offering the TomTom module for sale. At the very, very least, they should post an update on what they plan to do with the Telenav Scout navigation iPhone app. I'd change my review to 4 or 5 stars if they'd only let me buy the TomTom module (4 stars) or throw in it (5 stars), but I put 1 star because I was really hoping to have this feature they promised and now I'm stuck. As it is, this receiver was a waste of money for me, but a lesson learned. I'm looking at other brands now and next time, I will make sure everything I want is in it and cannot be taken away. p.s. Sony, if I'm wrong about anything on this review, please let me know. No sarcasm, I'd just like some resolution.

Great double din but.
3 Star Review   By rome1931 on Sony - Official Store - Feb 15, 2013

This radio sounds great and have a lot of features but the mirror link is lacking. I brought the radio primarily for mirror link so its disappointing. They have 3 big buttons taking up the part of the screen that does nothing. Mirror link should be full screen like the alpine so i think its radio firmware because the alpine uses the same drive link app. It seems that the alpine has more functionality. The touchscreen events are kinda slow and maybe should use Bluetooth for that. other than the mirror link feature being a garbage I'm happy with the radio.

Like to see GPS included
5 Star Review   By Vattikutti on Sony - Official Store - Jan 13, 2013

I suggest Sony to include the GPS feature - These days GPS is available for less than $150. Sony should include the feature and charge a little more. Don't want to depend on iphone for this feature though iphone and Android integration is nice. People having good old cars like me definitely like to upgrade to GPS DIN. It appears there is not even one company having a quality product. Sony -this can be your market.

XAV701HD Proves to be Worthless
1 Star Review   By EQDruid on Sony - Official Store - Dec 18, 2012

I begged my wife for this for my Christmas gift, to replace my Kenwood 5105 deck because of Mirror link. The mirror link app is slow to run, and crashes often, and you have to search the net just to find the app. You only have 2 USB inputs, and you have to choose what to install from the IPod, Phone, USB or the Tom Tom navigation. you cant do all 4. My 5 year old Kenwood came with built in Navigation, and had 2 USB connection for my IPod and my USB. What really makes me upset is that you cant use the Navigation either from Tom Tom or from Mirror link and listen to music at the same time. I travel a lot, and if I am traveling across state lines I can't listen to music and find my way. This is unacceptable! What were the developers thinking? The sound is great, the GUI is great, but the display modes / screen savers don't react to the music playing. I am going to return my unit unless the developers get back to me and or get a update for this before my 30 day return policy runs out. Charles
