Samsung BDP1000

Strengths: None

Weakness: The whole unit

Nothing but junk, have owned for 3 years, and every movie I have to update firmware. I have watched 10 movies on this player because it hardly works properly. I will never buy Samsung equipment again!!!!!!!!!

Consider Waiting....

Strengths: Great quality for the disks that work with it in a bluray format that it accepts.

Weakness: Firmware is needed to get some things (but not all) to work.

Bluray is constantly being upgraded. Small variances in disk manufacturing cause this machine to have stop gaps and even lock up on some movies. Some firmware is available for download, but there are no instructions to get the unzipped files from your pc to the dvd player. I finally got it after wasting some dvd and cd disks. Bluray is really nice especially with Planet Earth (which works okay)....

I won't buy Samsung ever again.

Strengths: Plays Ok with the remote.

Weakness: All front panel buttons quit functioning prior to 90 days of use. Circuit City wouldn't take it back for repair. Couldn't get a response from local authorized repair.

Still less than a year old, I called Samsung for support. They advised me $85 for repair. I'd have to pay shipping and the unit just isn't worth it. I will never buy another Samsung, my first one proved to be expensive and low quality control from the factory.

BluRay High Def Player

Strengths: the quality of the picture is amazing. HDMI output to get hightest possible HD resolution.

Weakness: It is a bit slow queing up the disc / movie.

Movies are coming out every week from nearly all the studios and first run DVD's are being released in the BluRay format at the same time regular DVD's are being released. I bought Casino Royale and the picture is...

Don't bother

Strengths: Nice picture but only with analog composite cables up to 720p. Don't use HDMI yet since the Samsung hasn't release the firm ware to fix some of the problems.

Weakness: Don't use HDMI yet since the Samsung hasn't release the firm ware to fix some of the problems.

HD DVD has the edge on movies and player quality and it's been out for more time then Blu Ray. Only one player choice HD DVD has 3. I had to sell mine already.
