Panasonic DMP-BD70V
4 Star Review  productwiki.com - Feb 4, 2009

The Panasonic DMP-BD70V is a Profile 2.0 HD blu-ray player based on PHL Reference Chroma Processor Plus high-image processing technology that reproduces clear, vivid, and realistic colors for an enhanced entertainment experience. The second of three Panasonic DMP-BD players, the Panasonic DMP-BD70V is an upgrade from the Panasonic DMP-BD60 in that it features a built-in VHA player designed to scale any VHS recording up to 1080 HD. In all other ways, however, the DMP-BD70V is practically a duplicate of its peer. The Panasonic DMP-BD70V retails for a slightly more expensive $449.99 (versus 399.99) and comes with a 1 year limited warranty. The DMP-BD70V also includes VIERA CAST technology that allows users to access the Internet without either an external box or PC, not to mention a VIERA Link that allows the user to operate their audio/video components through HDMI with just one remote. In addition, the DMP-BD70V features a high definition audio ... PROS: (1) can play VHS tapes and upconvert them to 1080p (2) profile 2.0 (3) allows limited Internet access (4) not much more expensive than the non-VHS capable DMP-BD60 (5) good for people with old home movies ... CONS: (1) VHS player makes the unit look bulky (2) unattractive remote (3) identical to the Panasonic DMP-BD60 with the addition of VHS player

Review of panasonic DMP-BD-70V blu-ray/vhs player
4 Star Review   By Marv-bis.nd on Beach Camera - Nov 20, 2009

Strengths: This is a nice solid unit very well laid out. It only took me 3-5 minutes to set it up to my Panasonic 50" Plasma set with HDMI connection(you need to buy the HDMI cable) It worked perfectly.

Weakness: They tell you that the vhs tapes will upconvert and look better-this is not true-You only get the quality that you initially started with-If your vhs tape grainey comes out grainey-only 2 head recorder

This panasonic is a very good unit and I am very happy with it-I played my music CD's-great-played movie discs(no blu-ray) and it was great-then played my old family vhs tapes and they were "ok" The point is that you only get to see the quality that you started with. If the old vhs tapes are like mine and done 20 years ago and done in long play which ends up fairly grainy, you will get just that and NOT a inhanced or up converted version, that looks better. The claim that the vhs tape will be inhanced or up converted certainly is not true in my estimation. But the player is great anyway only one unit to do both functions and connected by only one connection(HDMI) simple and easy to use and a piece of cake to install into my plasma set, sony reeciever etc. and surround sound system. The only down side is it is a player only-would be nice if the blu-ray player was a record and play with a 4 head vhs unit that also could record and play!! I am sure that will be coming! In addition, it makes it nice not to have to convert all your home vhs or other vhs tapes to disc to view then as with the vhs unit you simply put in and play. I would buy this unit again-I really like it-good Panasonic quality.
