Absolute Junk
1 Star Review

Weakness: Does not work.

This item did not work with my HP Windows XP computer. First, I installed the software as directed. Then, my system would not start. After several tries, I was able to get a restore point to recover (which I hope got rid of the updated Linksys installed without asking me -- who knows if there was spyware, too?). Then, I called technical support. They hung up on me twice after having not the slightest idea what to do. The third tech support guy -- a "senior technician" who also insisted the item could only be installed through the CD installation routine -- gave up and offered to replace the adapter as "defective." I had spent about three hours altogether. Today, I bought the equivalent Netgear instead (it cost 1 cent more at Staples than the Linksys) and ten minutes later it was working.

EXCELLENT
5 Star Review   By Someone on Mwave.com - Oct 22, 2007

Strengths: Easy to set up

Weakness: none so far

Comes with a long USB extension cable, and it works rather well with our router. Under Windows xp, it gets 54 MBPS and 4 to 5 bars of strenth (which the router is on one side of the house, and my computer is on the other side!!!) I upgraded from a PCI Netgear wireless adapter, and its a huge upgrade, and a cheap one too! that netgear would every once in a while kick me off of World Of Warcraft, but this linksys adapter has not had one "spike" yet! I love it already, even though I havent had it for very long, its already working much better than that Netgear ever did.

Excellent wireless USB adapter
5 Star Review   By member yoyoliu - Jan 30, 2007

Strengths: Works great, tiny size

This really is a great product, Very easy and quick to install, the signal is pretty good, It works well for BT downloading, I found I never lost connection after using this product. The connection is much more reliable and has greater range than my laptops internal wireless card. highly recommended

good wireless usb adapter
5 Star Review   By member dongly - Jan 28, 2007

Strengths: work flawlessly,

Weakness: too big,

This USB device is great.this is the first time I used the Linksys product, I really like their product. It support for the newer wireless protocals. The installation is very simple, Don't use the Linksys Wireless Monitor program came with it, I have problem to connect the network using their software, So I have to disable the Linksys Monitor software and use the microsoft wireless application. I'm very pleased with this adapter!

2 Star Review   By member lelter - Jan 13, 2007

Strengths: Easy setup, reliable reception.

Weakness: Very poor software and drivers, they disabled Windows Fast User Switching.

This device is only to be used in the computer where there is only one user. Software disables Windows Fast User Switching, so that you would have to completely log off one user before switching to another. The device is bulky, and it obscures neighboring USB ports, you would have to use extension cord in order to utilize neighboring ports. Otherwise, provides reliable reception and communication. Set up is somewhat tricky if you do it manually.

Excellent wireless link
5 Star Review   By member abarlow - Dec 30, 2006

Strengths: Easy to setup and worked immediately. Stable and reliable every since.

Weakness: None.

I had been having trouble with a PCMCIA card from D-Link, so I decided to get a new card, but this time wanted to use USB instead of PCMCIA hoping that it would be less problematic. Sure enough, it's worked like a charm. The old card would frequently lock up my system to the point where I'd have to do a hard reboot. This USB "stick" has worked without any problems.

good hardware. bad software
2 Star Review   By member kinhui - Dec 29, 2006

Strengths: Nice long 4-ish feet usb cable. Install wasn't a trouble if you have only ONE USERNAME for the machine.

Weakness: The software will install the dll GTgina.dll which will disable fast switch between Windows XP users

It is great, if you are the only user of the Windows XP (Home or Pro). Since I need to have different usernames for my XP for different corporates' login, I need a fix to this dll. No fix is available from Linksys, yet. Google on GTgina.dll. There are workarounds from others. What annoys me is the installation will behind your back install the dll GTgina.dll . Spoke with the Indians for Linksys. At first they flat out denied it was even part of their dll! Linksys Liars? Bottom line: If you login with ONE username, the wireless adapter could be a great product. Otherwise, you will loose login features. Hope it helps.

Perfect! Why can't all Linksys or networking prodcuts work as good as this?
5 Star Review   By member Happyshop007 - Dec 27, 2006

Strengths: Took literally 5 minutes to setup, and I was up and running.

Weakness: None that I can think of. Maybe easy to lose if you are traveling with it? =)

Buy this if you are looking into wireless networking for your home. It will save you immense headache with networking. I needed to install wireless networking to my desktop, and this did the trick.

I guess it was worth the hassle.
3 Star Review   By member grandorse - Oct 16, 2006

Strengths: The signal is great.

Weakness: I had to assign static IP addresses to all my computers for this to work. Even after doing that I still get a message that there is a confict although there isn't.

I had to do a google search for some of the problems I was having and take a chance on downloading a driver, uninstall the Wireless G adapter, then install without using the install disk. The install disk changed my computer set up for Windows. Instead of having several different people and a guest set up to log in, I had the original Windows login. It was annoying.

Linksys wireless USB works good and good range
4 Star Review   By member joysmahal - Sep 19, 2006

Strengths: Works fine, good range

Weakness: Linksys is a little more pricey than other brands

I've owned this for over 2 months and I have not had any issues with it. Works well with my Dell desktop PC. Only compaint is that I can only get it to work properly if I run the Linksys Wireless software. If I turn that off and use the Windows XP to manage my wireless the internet connection does not work.

LinkSys Compact Wireless - G USB Adapter
5 Star Review   By member KevinDenice - Jul 23, 2006

Strengths: Extremely easy to install, spin the setup CD first and the rest of the installation is step by step.

Weakness: Since I dislike cables, I plugged the Compact Wireless USB Adapter directly into one of the USB ports on the front of my Dell, however, the flashing network active light is only visible from one side.

Setting up the Wireless USB Adapter is not for the complete novice. Setting up a secure wireless home network should be investigated on line in advance...perhaps during the 3-day shipping.

Linksys Wireless USB Adapter
5 Star Review   By member akhalfan - Jul 18, 2006

Strengths: Provides a consistent strong signal

Weakness: Make sure to configure it properly to work

Overall, this product is very good. I actually have two of these, because my room is filled with desktops. It is very convenient, because of the USB connectivity, and its range is just as good as the laptops that have them built in.

The unit functions and installs well. I am very pleased with it's performance. I would recommend this as the one to use. The signal remains strong at 100 ft or more.

LinkSys Compact Wireless - G USB Adapter
4 Star Review   By member rentroom - Feb 15, 2006

Strengths: Easy to install, and it worked like it should be.

Weakness: Price is a little bit more than the competition.

I broke down and bought this adapter as I was frustrated with the first one that I had bought because it had compatibility issues with the router. I just had to pay extra $$$ to get the LinkSys one, but I was satisfied with how easy it was to install it and get going with surfing the internet.
