4 Star Review   By member Rob_0126 - Feb 2, 2003

Strengths: Solid; Smooth framerates; Still a Contender to this day

Weakness: Still a bit pricey; Slower than a Geforce 4 Ti 4600

This is a good card. When I read about the reviews, a few things come to my mind. Most of time, if you have problems with powerful video cards, it's because you don't have sufficient power to run them. Geforce 3 cards, need a lot of power to operate. I would recommend at least a 300-350 watt 'quality' power supply. Another is drivers. My opinion is, that vendor specific drivers aren't very good. Some might argue that, but nvidia has a vast array of drivers. I believe that with this specific card, right now, the 28.32 nvidia drivers are the most stable. This card isn't the fastest on the market, but it still is a competitor in the gaming community. With a decent processor(1.3 ghz+), this card will run games like Unreal Tournament 2003 well. I can't say much for price though, because I got a real good deal on mine. Cooling is another factor that most people aren't realizing upgrading from older systems to the newer, faster ones. If you own an Athlon processor, and don't have proper ventilation, the inside of your computer will get very hot. Athlon's and the newer Pentium chips run hot, and need proper cpu & case cooling. A cooler system will yield a longer lasting one. I hope this clears up any confusion. Robert

Weakness: Visiontek itself

TO consumer customers...know this! Opened the box and did not work in 4 PC's assumed bad. Sent back to Visiontek. They send it back and say it is fine. Still doesn't work in any PC it's been tried in. They say to bad! This card is suppose to have a lifetime warranty. I have seen two of these cards do this exact same thing. They have a problem and are not standing behind their warranty. This was the PCI version...but we are talking about the integrity of VisionTek..more than the product. Spread the word.

Strengths: While it worked it was fast

Weakness: I'm on my second one in three months. Lock ups, anomalies in 3D mode you've seen the likes before.

I back to using my Geforce1 DDR card again and it still works. I have sent the Geforce3 Ti 500 back again let's see how what they send me fairs this time.

Strengths: Its pretty good because its made by Nvidia. Of course it will kick butt.

Weakness: Over rated and over priced. RADEON 8500 is just as good but put down because of the "DRIVER" problems. SO WHAT! THEY WILL FIX IT!

All you computer freaks out there, I don't care what you are saying. I say ATI tried their best this time and kick Nvidia's butt. Yeah, the 8500 has some problems with the driveres but hey! What else is there? ITs a perfectly good card! Ti-500 is basically just an over priced and overrated. I say buy the card that is cheaper and is just as good. The Radeon 8500 is best price and equal the Ti-500. Said and done.

Strengths: Fast, reliable, no compatibility issues

This card has got to be one of the best on the market. It hasn't given me any problems, it runs every game I have played on it flawlessly,(Counter Strike, Tribes 2, Alice, Unreal Tournament, Homeworld, Quake III, Alien Vs. Predator 2). After a quick registry edit I could overclock it ith a single click and have it running without any issues at 275MHz core clock, 500MHz ram clock. This thing also has a monster heat sink on it so it will not over heat under reasonable conditions. It's done some of the best desktop rendering I've ever seen as well. My system never had it so good, and the stuff I can do with 3D Studio MAX makes me falls out of my chair. Not to mention the video outs that work literally without effort and let me watch movies on my hard drive on my 45" television with brilliant clarity. I couldn't dream of a better card

Strengths: This card changed the way I look at my monitor!

Weakness: They should switch from the thermal pad to some sort of thermal grease, ie. Arctic Silver II

I actually enjoyed installing this card, the packaged drivers worked well and made a marked improvement in all that I have viewed so far. I installed their new drivers and it just got better. It is relatively expensive but you can't have everything! To some of you guys and/or gals doing reviews and putting in your opinions, if you read as poorly as you write it is no wonder you are having problems, I am not sure how some of you can even turn on your computer, especially some of those poor guys that bought the Radeon 8500, WHEW! This card is excellent!

Strengths: Fast, Solid Card

Weakness: no apparent weaknesses

This card is incredible! I use it for games (CS and EQ/Luclin), and for 3-D animation, modeling, and rendering. I've seen this card operate on three motherboards, one Intel, one ASUSA7V, and one ASUSA7V266-E. In all cases the card has operated perfectly. Smoothest frame rate I've ever seen on a Windows system (2000 Professional). Compatible with the EQ expansion Shadows of Luclin (game plays smooth as ever). NVidia I love you!

This card is great. At least I know it will be after i get it working. My computer keeps restarting itself. I have enough power and everything. Anyone out there have an EpoX 8k7a motherboard and the visiontek xtasy 6964 video card? Are you having the same problems? I have tried nearly everything: drivers, OS, power, drivers for MoBo. Nothing. I even called tech support. I have the amd 761 chipset. Are there any known compatability problems? Help me out someone please. I was thinking of getting the asus a7v 266 E to see if the video card will work without any problems. What do you think? Email me... gregjeong@hotmail.com and subject as visiontek video card. Thanks...

Strengths: Great 2D and 3D image quality, Very Stable, Great overclocking, Extremely fast

This is one awesome card. I went from a GeForce2 Ultra (which I thought was a great card), but the GeForce3 Ti500 is amazing. It has great 2D and 3D image quality and is very stable even under extreme overclocking. And with nVidia's great driver development and deployment, this card can only get better. I though the Detonator version 21.85 drivers were good, but now 22.50 seem to be even better. This card is worth every penny. Put this card with an Athlon XP 1800+, KT266A chipset, PC2400 DDR RAM, and you will have the fastest untweaked machine on the planet.
