EVGA GeForce GTX 280
3 Star Review  productwiki.com - Nov 24, 2011

The EVGA GeForce GTX 280 series contains 5 cards. All of the cards contain the stock specification 1GB of DDR3 VRAM connected through a 512bit bus. All but one utilize the stock cooler, and all but one are overclocked from the stock timings of 602MHz/2214MHz. For more information on the GTX 280 refer to the full report. A great reason to consider EVGA is their high quality customer support and limited lifetime warranties on all products. Models EVGA GeForce GTX 280 1GB: A 1GB dual slot card, stock cooler, at stock clockspeeds(602MHz/2214MHz) EVGA GeForce GTX 280 SC: A 1GB dual slot card, stock cooler, at slightly enhanced clockspeeds(621MHz/2268MHz) EVGA GeForce GTX 280 SSC: A 1GB dual slot card, stock cooler, at enhanced clockspeeds(648MHz/2322MHz) EVGA GeForce GTX 280 FTW: A 1GB dual slot card, stock cooler, at enhanced clockspeeds(670MHz/2430MHz ) EVGA GeForce GTX 280 HC: A 1GB dual slot card, enhanced EVGA ... PROS: (1) good performance, can run most games at high settings without much trouble (2) keeps itself cool well, as long as the case is ventilated theres nothing to worry about (3) installation isnt very complicated, driver setup is straight forward (4) heat sink is made of solid, durable-feeling plastic that doesnt flex when you install it - ensures that you wont break it as you work with it (5) runs dual monitors smoothly, no lag noticeable ... CONS: (1) draws a fair amount of power, need to make sure your power supply can handle it (2) generates a lot of heat that needs to be actively vented from the case (3) takes up a lot of room, just wont fit in smaller cases

Strengths: Fast, Powerful video card which handles any graphics problem thrown at it. When it works.

Weakness: Doesn't work. I'm on my third one of these (two RMA returns).

Drivers for this card are very poor, and can be a huge struggle to install even on a clean system (Vista Ultimate x64, Windows 7 x64), not to mention that the frequently updated drivers cause hard crashes on Windows login as often as they fix bugs or improve performance. And it seems to break often. eVGA support is awesome and does a good job, but at the end of the day, this card just doesn't work despite an expensive cooling solution which keeps the card from going over 70 degrees under load. It seems like I spend more time in safe mode reverting my drivers or with RMAs in transit to or from eVGA than I do enjoying the graphics this video card can deliver.

Strengths: Fast

Weakness: Slow

This Video card is wonderful. It's so fabluous that I wouldn't want any other Video card. If I had to pick between this Video card and a different one, I'd pick the other one.
