ATI Radeon X1650 | AMD
3 Star Review  productwiki.com - Aug 24, 2011

The ATI Radeon X1650 is a legacy video card by ATI. It offers 512M onboard DDR2 RAM, and a 600MHz GPU clock speed. It uses the PCI Express x16 interface, but can be used on AGP x8 motherboards with an external bridge adapter. It is a dual-link DVI card that supports multiple monitors and multiple resolutions and refresh rates at the same time. It also has a S-Video TV output with resolutions up to 1024x768. The GPU has hardware decoding and encoding support on most common video formats, as well as the ability to decode HDCP video. The card has full support for DirectX 9.0, but would have issues with the newer DirectX 10.1, and certainly would not handle the very new DirectX 11 that is still coming into fruition. It offers all of the same features as the Radeon X1550, with the exception of an additional 256M of onboard memory. ... PROS: (1) Quiet cooling even during load, the cooler keeps the GPU at a suitable temperature (2) CrossFire capable, due to the integrated compositing engine (3) Better AF support (and performance) than its Nvidia couonterpart ... CONS: (1) High power consumption compared to the 7600GS (2) For those who are willing to spend a bit more, the 7600GT offers more performance for the price, with lower power consumption

X1650 pro Video card
4 Star Review   By member xbin - Feb 5, 2008

Strengths: Good Price, and works good for what i needed it for.

Weakness: The fan is kinda noisy.

I bought this Card to build a htpc and it works great out of the box. I wished the fan was a bit quieter but for the price I can't complain to much. I might buy another one.

Ok price. Not good for gaming.
3 Star Review   By member Techguy2006 - Feb 1, 2008

Strengths: Cheap, 512MB memory

Weakness: too much noisy fan, poor performance compared to NVidia similar cards

I got this card for cheap after rebate. If the rebate comes, price is good. Even with 512MB onboard RAM, the performance is poor. My Nvidia 6600GT performs better than this card. If you like to play more than 2-3 years old game, then this card will play. Forget about playing recent games with this card. Heatsink is too big and make too much noise. Catalyst control center need major improvement.

Decent Card for the money
3 Star Review   By member xi3igdx - Jan 28, 2008

Strengths: Can be found on the cheap

Weakness: Cannot run the newest games at high settings.

Currently running this with a q6600 with 4gb. I purchased it on the cheap since I'm waiting for the price to drop on a 3850. I haven't tested it much, been mostly running office apps and am still waiting to complete the installing of my software. Tried running Age of Empires III and it ran fine with high details.

Just what I need
4 Star Review   By member wonghy - Jan 25, 2008

Strengths: easy to install, cheap, do what I need it to do

Weakness: the CD that comes with it does not have the drivers for Vista. Have to find it on the internet

I bought this card for one main reason - to connect my computer to my TV which does not have a HDMI input. I connect it to the component input of the TV using the s-video to component adapter that comes with it and it does what I need it to do.

ATI X1650
4 Star Review   By member merwynp - May 14, 2007

Strengths: lot of RAM, great picture quality

Weakness: 350W power supply

This is a great video card for Windows Vista. It has 512MB of RAM. The aero works great with this card. The only downside is that you need a 350W power supply or more to make it work.

Best for the Buck
5 Star Review   By member n_m_e_2_all - May 8, 2007

Strengths: Easy installation of drivers. Crossfire compatibility makes it a plus. ATI catalyst takes some getting use to, but once you understand the software easy to use.

Weakness: None so far

I'd rather have two of these x1650 Pro cards running crossfire over one of the ATI Radeon x1950 XTX video cards. Since the price of 2 x1650 = 1 x1950.

Great card
4 Star Review   By member Fiscal Gear - Apr 10, 2007

Strengths: Super fast

Weakness: Active cooling

This is my first semi-serious graphics card and I have to say that I'm very impressed. It was able to play a few games I fired up quite well with no problems whatsoever. The only thing I would change about this card is replace the fan with a big heatsink like some of the newer nvidia cards as passive cooling seems effective on those cards and eliminates the noise. Not that the fan on the Radeon is loud by any means, but it'd be nice to get rid of it.

ATi X1650Pro
4 Star Review   By furballx on Mwave.com - Apr 7, 2007

Strengths: awesome for gaming hands down. Very fast

Weakness: Same problem as the first guy, drivers from cd wouldnt work. The downloaded ones from the ATI website worked just fine.

Very good card was initially gonna go back to nividia but decided with this cause it was hard to beat the price. Card is awesome, works well, runs Vanguard oh so nicely.

FAST AND SHARP!
5 Star Review   By Lyman DeKoquonut on Mwave.com - Mar 13, 2007

Strengths: Fast... FAST - FAST - FAST! Installs in a moment, excellent software and driver support.

This is a quality product! Never throw the packaging away on ANY new product of any kind until you know it works - Newbie Mistake! You can not go wrong with ATI or the OEM ATI cards!

Bad product
1 Star Review   By member mor987 - Mar 10, 2007

Weakness: Drivers do not work.

I installed this card on a Gigabyte GA-965P-DQ6 motherboard with an Intel Core2 Duo E6600 processor. The drivers and Catalyst Control Center software would not install from the CD, telling me that I should try setting the card as a standard VGA adapter... On a brand new computer that had the operating system installed for the first time, and never had any other video card installed. The technicians at ATI told me to download the latest drivers and software from their website. The drivers installed this time, but the software would not run. In addition, the display blinked several times when starting applications and/or switching windows, sometimes giving me an error created by the CCC software with the option to send to Microsoft, and sometimes simply freezing the system with a green background on the display. One technician at ATI blamed Windows Live Messenger, Google Earth, and every other software I told him I had installed in the system for causing the problem. I lost around $190, since I discarded the packaging material to soon and cannot return the item to the vendor. This product is less than substandard quality. It's simply a piece of junk.
