May not play well with Macs and PCs at the same time.
3 Star Review   By member mandarin - Aug 31, 2005

Strengths: Small, Cap stays on the end while in use, Durable

Weakness: No keychain, file corruption problems.

I have been using this drive for a year and a half now. I had to buy it for a class, but now I don't go anywhere without it. It is much more convenient than floppy disks or other forms of moving information. I used it for a year and a half with absolutely no problems. However, in the past month and a half, I have had my Cruzer corrupt files twice. The first time it happened, nearly all of the files were ruined. The second time was not as bad, but still a problem. I think the problem stems from the fact that I often switch between a Mac (work) and a PC (home). If you switch between Macs and PCs often, I recommend getting a newer model (I haven't heard many complaints about data corruption on the newer ones).

Strengths: Price, Stability, plug and play, company will send you an extra set of caps for free if requested

Weakness: Data corruption, caps (individual problem)

Flash drive literally plug and play as described. Data transfer is reaches 500KB/sec on USB 2.0 connections. I use my drive 7 days a week and carry it with me all day. I have experienced data corruption only once with one specific file, though I must say this drive is very, very stable. Ive dropped my drive in water and on top of that I carry it without a cap in my pockets all the time, yet I have not experienced any data loss or any problems linked to physical wear. The only problem I had with the product are the caps. I lost all caps in a month, SanDisk sent me a new set for free but again, they were all gone in the next month. For people like me who tend to loose small objects like these, consider purchasing a flash drive with a cap integrated to it.

Strengths: Fast, easy to use.

Weakness: Data corruption.

I bought Cruzer Mini 256MB in a office supply store in Thanksgiving sale last year. My computer was not able to read this drive in January, so I took it back to exchange. After that, it worked just fine until recently. I have to do my bring my work in my home computer (PowerMac G4 MDD Dual 867) to school computers (PCs with Win2000 Pro and PowerMac G5), and the data corrupted for no reason. It happened twice in the last two months. I lost quite a lot of work because of this issue. I have asked SanDisk Technical Support for help and still wait for their answers. Besides the part of losing data, it's a good device to use.

Strengths: Small, Inexpensive, Easy to Use with Windows XP

Weakness: Limited Instructions on how to attach Lanyard (carrying strap) to Flash Drive. Removable cap rather than integral cap.

I really like this product. I would have given the Cruzer Mini Five Stars if they had included instructions on how to attach the Lanyard (Carrying Strap) to the Flash Drive with the product. There were some limited instructions on their web site (if you go to technical support for the product and enter carrying strap as a search term) on how to attach the Lanyard and I was able to figure out (eventually) how to do so from those instructions. It would have been very helpful (and easy) to post either pictures or diagrams on their web site showing how to attach the Lanyard (Carrying Strap). Once I got the Lanyard attached, it is extremely functional and appears to be well made (I like the fact that the Lanyard has a small plastic clip so you can pop the Flash Drive off it if you wish to). One other minor quibble, I also would have preferred if SanDisk had designed the case of the flash drive so that the male USB slot slid in and out of the case rather than having a removable cover. Although it is thoughtful of SanDisk to include two spare covers, I can see myself losing all the covers eventually if I am not careful. I like the fact that the unit comes with three gummed labels to attach to the Flash Drive. I used one of the labels to put my last name and phone numbers on the Flash Drive so that if I lose it, there is at least a chance that I will get it back. I purchased my drive from Staples who had the unit for $49.94 with a $10 rebate so the net price including tax with the Staples rebate and the pricegrabber rebate was only about $38. I am sure it will go lower in the coming months; but, I felt that was quite a reasonable price for the product. Several other reviewers mentioned the light on the end of the unit and I agree with them that that is also a very desirable feature. One reviewer mentioned the lack of a USB extension cable whic caused the unit to take up two USB slots. I did not find that to be the case on my computer. The Flash drive was thin enough for me to connect it in the top of two USB slots on the front of my emachines computer even though I had a USB cable connected to the bottom slot. So, while I agree that an extension cable would have been a nice addition, the lack of one was not a problem for me. Bottom Line - Aside from the very minor quibbles/complaints mentioned above, I was very satisfied with this product.

Strengths: Lots of memory.

Weakness: Transfer not that fast.

I really love this product. The only little disappointment was that I was expecting a faster transference rate. However, it meets and exceeds all other expectations. The design makes sure there are no protruding parts, so it's easy to carry in any pocket. It also comes with a neck strap.

Strengths: Very light. Easy to carry with like key chain.

Weakness: It would be better if the size was little bit smaller.

It is a fantastic portable USB flash drive. Very useful to move files from PC to PC. It can even move some large files with a click. I should have used this one earlier.

Strengths: Sleek, very light, Option to carry it as a tag around the neck. Recognized by Windows 2000 and up without any driver installations. 2 additional USB covers.

Weakness: Cannot be used on a key ring.

I previously owned a Lexar jumpdrive. I had to order the Sandisk for obvious reasons. First because of its shape. This is thinner and shorther than a lighter. The Shape allows to fit into any USB without changing the position of the PC / Laptop (a huge plus over the Lexar's shape). The product also had 2 extra covers for the Cruzer mini. The light indication during use at the end of the Cruzer mini is awesome it glows a full green compared to a tiny spot on Lexar. In all over the past four days thecruzer mini has be every bit great over the Lexar product. Last but not the least... THE CRUZER MINI IS VERY FAST.

Strengths: Good capacity, good price. Light on unit flashes when writing is a great asset.

Weakness: None that I can find

Good capacity, good price. Very convenient having the light on the end of the unit. Instantly recognized by XP Home. Instructions state to never remove drive when the light is flashing. BELIEVE IT!!!! Data will go to la-la land. I know prices for flash memory will continue to come down but this is the best deal I've found.

Strengths: Relatively inexpensive for the size. Fairly speedy.

Weakness: Does not hit peak USB 2.0 speeds. Casing feels cheap and will crack under some pressure. Technical support supposedly very poor. (Unconfirmed) Data corruption occurs with some units. (Unconfirmed)

Having used this as well as the 512mb unit for the past four days, I have to say that I am quite satisfied with the purchases. The drive works as advertised out-of-the-box without any unexpected hassles. The USB 2.0 speed was satisfactory, taking approximately two minutes to transfer a single 350mb file. I do have two complaints about the Sandisk. First, the unit's casing seems a bit weak - I could see the unit cracking with some pressure. The neckstrap should limit the chance of that happening, but the possibility is definately there. Second, the unit takes up more than one usb slot with its size. (Kingston's thumb drives include a small usb cable that alleviates this) Also worth mentioning is that I have had no experience with Sandisk technical support, so who knows how useful or useless they are. I have yet to experience the data corruption some users have reported with these units, but the golden rule of "always have your data backed up" will negate this concern.

Strengths: Small. Fits in the tightest of places. Works for USB 2.0 as well as 1.1.

Weakness: Limited Warranty. No security.

It's very small, like a small matchbook. It fits even in those dual stack USB ports. I wish it had a security protected storage area and also wish it had more than its 2 year limited warranty. I've seen company that offer 5 years or even life-time warranties.

Strengths: sleek, stylish, good price, easy to use

Weakness: cant be powered by USB port in keyboard

Simple to use on my G3 iMac running Panther. Just plug it in and within a few seconds it appears on the desktop. Available capacity after formatting is 244MB. Unfortuneately for me, my computer doesn't have USB 2.0, so I have to make due with USB 1.1 transfer speeds. It took around 5 minutes on average and no more than 6 to read/wite 244MB. The other end of the drive lights up green to show it is powered and/or in use. Pretty consistent with USB 1.1 speeds I have experienced in the past. Personally, this would be the larget flash drive I suggest if you don't have USB 2.0. Also, I was unable to get this to work in the USB port on the keyboard. I would get a message saying there was not enough power to use this device. So I am forced to use one of the built in ports on the computer. This drive is nice and sleek. I read about other drives which are big and bulky and thus interfere with plugged in USB devices but no problems here. It also comes with a detachable neck strap, and two extra colored caps. Overall, a great buy at a great price.

Strengths: Small, comes with a strap which you can use to carry around your neck.

Weakness: Small - can be lost easily. Somewhat fragile.

This is a pretty good flash drive. I've had experience with most of them, and for the price, it is one of the best you can get. It is rather small, which may be good and bad. Bad because it may be misplaced easily. It seems to be somewhat fragile as well, wouldn't throw it around too much. Other than that its pretty good - no regrets.

Strengths: Fast, spare caps and good price

Weakness: none known

What can I say, the Cruzer works great. I have used it to move mp3's, photos and downloaded zip files from my desktop PC to my laptop. The spare caps give you 2 to misplace. Works with older USB ports like the one on my yard sale laptop. Drivers for 98SE are at the SanDisk web site. None are need for ME/2000/xp.

Strengths: Works great with the 4 different systems that I use. Very inexpensive in comparison to other 256MB flash drives. I like the size and style of it. Its not too small and not too big.

Weakness: No password protection.

I really like this flash drive. It has worked with all the systems I've tried it with. It has a nice look to it and its not too small that I'm going to lose it. I definitely would recommend this drive to anyone on a budget!

Strengths: Very easy to use, Quickly installs, Very fast, Great price, Very small, 3 different color caps for customization.

Weakness: Only 244MB actually available on drive.

This drive was very easy to install with no drivers needed. It is very fast transfering a 1.4MB file in under a second and an 8.4mb file in just over 3 seconds. It comes with a lanyard and three different colored caps. Although it only has 244MB available on the drive it is great for the price!

Strengths: Small and compact with a good design. Very convenient and easy to use. Great product for the price with best bang for your buck. Compatable with any computer without any other software or hardware

Weakness: It would be nice to have a key ring instead of a loop to hang it on.

Just plug it into your USB port and you're ready to go. Its the best entry point in terms of MB/dollar you spend. Great for quickly and easily transporting almost all files between your desktop and notebook or work computer. You can transfer pictures, word documents, or powerpoint presentations. Its more convenient if you have a USB port in front of your computer and a lot faster with USB 2.0.

Strengths: Very small, easy to install and use, large capacity

This device is great! It is really small and easy to use. Just plug it into a USB port - 1.1 or 2.0. A light on the unit tells you it is connected. No installation or driver issues, just read and write to it. Instantly recognized by Windows when you plug it in. Quite a deal.

Strengths: Light, small and very fast. Easy to install and use. Good price.

I found the price very attractive that’s why I purchased this product from ecost.com. Although the product was available it become “on back order” after I purchased it. I happened near to Christmas and it was not available for a week so I canceled my order. The cancellation process was very quick and smooth. Few weeks later the price of this product was still unbeatable and I try to purchase it one more time from ecost.com. This time it was available and I got it on time. I have used different “universal readers” with compact flash, smart media and memory sticks. The SanDisk 256MB Cruzer-Mini USB Flash Drive is performing way better than any of the cards and readers that I currently have. The small form factor makes it even more attractive. Finally I'd like to mention that it works great under Windows XP but I have uncounted some caching problems on Windows 2000 Professional.

Strengths: Small, light weight, necklace, 2 year warranty, very easy to use

Weakness: None found

I have used this flash drive on several PCs running both Windows 2000 and XP with no problems. The connect is easy as well as disconnect. Instructions are simple and clear. There is a nice green led indicator on the end of the drive indicating drive status. No complaints about speed, it keeps up very well transfering data. Because of its size and light weight I wear mine around my neck and under my shirt and often forget it is even there. I find it a nice way to cary important data files from one place to another.

Weakness: probably easy to lose covers( but extras are provided), requires driver download to work on windows 98

overall I am pleased with the device , a different cover design would help also maybe a way to keep the windows 98 driver on the thing for easier access to those computers

Strengths: Small, easy to use, necklace, good price

Weakness: Blockage, light

It works great and is easy to use - truly Plug-and-Play. At school I have no hard drive permissions, period except for my drive on the server, and it still works. Works well even on Win 98 w/ the driver. Great and affordable. The three covers are a plus (even though I've already lost one). USB 1.1 compatible is good - I use it mostly on 1.1 The light stays on permanently except when loading on many computers. Lacks security program, but you can download one from the website (www.Sandisk.com). It is fat, though, and may block other USB ports if they are too close together or (As i've experienced) not quite fit right if too close to other stuff, such as power cord. I don't know if this is the case on others. Overall, a great product for a good price.

Strengths: Fast, small and great capacity

Wish cap could be attached to back of unit, kind of like a BIC pen - but I guess that's what pockets were made for!

Strengths: Thin, tiny, fast

Good portable usb flash drive. The size is very small, even smaller than former one I got before. It's a very good choice if you want to buy a flash drive.

Strengths: Boots up as another drive under XP and Jaguar. No software to load.

Weakness: I wish it had a keychain attachment, but I'm just being petty.

I went to Staples to pick up some paper and stuff for the office and they had these on a slae display for 49.00 with a 10.00 MIR. I figured I couldn't go wrong with this little guy. I got back to the studio and started playing around with it to see how it worked on the different computers in the place. This thing makes transfering art files from one computer to next a breeze. No more waiting to send over the network. Just drag and drop the files and toss it across the room to the next guy. Also will be great the next time we have to go to a client's site for a proof. Just load up the proof and native file and walk in to make changes on site. I got to get a few more of these things for everyone else.

Strengths: Small, light, fast and VERY easy to use.

Weakness: No keychain attachment, many be a bit too small for some people.

This is a great USB 2.0 device. Just plug it in, and move files around. It looks more durable than some of the others on the market. Time will tell. I would buy another (higher capacity) in second. very satisfied.

Strengths: Fast; small USB 2.0 device. Best price I could fine.

Weakness: None for my use.

I got this Sandisk 256MB Cruzer Mini flash dive thru PriceGrabber. I use a PC at home and work. I also have an laptop and one other computer. This is ideal for shuttling large power point presentation back and forth. Also when visiting other offices it's ease to have them give your files on the spot or use their graphic machine to give a presentation. One feature that I like was the ability to lock files. You drag the files you want lock to the lock part of the memory and drop them. It done. You do not need to have the encrypted software on every computer which the jumpdrive connects to to secure your files on the jumpdrive. The lock is on the jumpdrive. You have to download the lock file from sandisk. They also give you two extra caps for there jumpdrive and cord so you can wear it around your neck.

Strengths: small size, fast speed, easy accessibility via USB, nice storage size, excellent value

Weakness: not attachable to a keychain ring (comes with a long neckstrap - yuck!)

I was interested in purchasing one of these USB flash drives for several months, but never felt that there were enough reasons to justify the cost, i.e., burning onto a CD holds more and is very inexpensive. When i saw this drive at an acceptable price (after rebate) during an after-Thanksgiving sale, I couldn't resist! The size is great. The transfer speed is great. I LOVE the fact that this is a USB device - now I'll be able to very easily get files to/from an old laptop with a broken CD drive. Although everything seems to be working fine, my rating is 4 stars only because I have not tested any other USB flash drives.

Strengths: Fast; USB2. Very tiny. Best price (after rebates) for its value and quality.

Weakness: Need to wait a while after light stops flashing to remove the unit; some random flashes (finalizing process?) occur even after you think the tranfer is completed.

Like many other brands, the cap can easily be lost--that is why two extra caps are provided. The manufacture must know this problem. But why not change the design--a suggestion for other manufactures as well? There are many ways to do so.

Strengths: Fast. Works in Linux.

Weakness: No keychain attachment, although you can wear it around your neck.

You cannot go wrong with buying this drive. It worked without special drivers under Linux (Gentoo Linux w/ the 2.6.0-test10 kernel) and WinXP. I wish that there was an easy way to attach this thing to a keychain though. I'd rather have that ability than to be able to wear it around my neck. That's the only thing preventing me from giving it 5 stars. A nice touch was that they give you 2 additional caps to protect the USB connector in case you happen to lose one or two.

Strengths: Small, fast with USB 2, easy to carry and reliable

Great product. The mini curzer is smaller than the prior sd chip product and has no dongle. Size is like a pack of gum or lipstick. It is small, fast with USB 2, easy to carry and reliable. Unlike the priopr version the falsh memory is not removable, upgradable.

Strengths: Small size, USB 2.0 interface, and large capacity.

Weakness: none.

I got this Sandisk 256MB Cruzer Mini USB Flash Drive from an office supply store during their Thanksgiving sale. Its tiny size makes it possible to carry it around easily. The USB 2.0 interface provides fast data transfer rate, and the drive can be easily detected by Windows and no drivers need to be installed. The drive will be seen as a removable disk in Windows and file transfers are simply "drag and drop". The 256MB capacity allows you to store much more data than ever. With this drive, I can easily copy files over to/from work. If you are looking for a mini drive, this is definitely a good choice.

Strengths: It's a easier use product.

Weakness: No.

I use a PC at work and a Mac at home. This device allowed me to move files easily between home and work. Its portable and easy to use, no software to install, just plug it in and proceed to move files.

Strengths: speed, size, looks

Weakness: no keychain loop/attachment device

Excellent product. Simple to use, tiny go-anywhere 256MB package lets you take your whole office home - and doesn't make you wait to do it. I can never go back to 1.1 after knowing how fast 2.o is. If your looking for a good value USB drive that has it all - look no further!
