It just looks cool
I read the other reviews about this and simply wanted a cool blue light on my desk that adjusted my system volume. It does just that. I know that I can customize it to work with different apps, but I didn't buy it for that purpose.

It does what it says.
Strengths: Cool blue color, very smooth knob, nice stanless steel brush look.
Weakness: Sometimea I have to re-seat the usb to make it when when booting up my machine.
I think this is a great product. I just like the part when I can controll the volume instantly and other programs with it. I don't have any doubts on buying this.

I saw one of these on a friends Mac and had to have one. When I first set it up on an XP machine, it functioned for a while then failed. It worked intermittently. I tried everything and eventually just disconnected it and put it in a drawer.
I checked the Griffin site a few weeks ago and found instructions for the problem I was having. I followed them and now my PowerMate works great.
First of all, this is a luxury item. There are very few tasks I can assign it to that I can't do just as easily with my trackball. This was not a practical purchase.
That being said, since I got it hooked up anyway, I set it up to do things like zoom in Illustrator, scroll in IE, and scrub in Premiere and I actually find myself using it.
What it's most useful for is decorating my desk. I've got it set to pulse continually. So I got this brushed aluminum knob here with a pulsing blue base.
Think of it as a very cool desk decoration that you can actually use for something.
