Hang on your network will soar when it's hooked up to NETGEAR's FS605! This powerful plug-and-play switch connects at 10 or 100 Mbps and makes it easy to link as many as five computers or peripherals to your Ethernet network. You'll experience maximum performance for 10 or 100 Mbps devices with five ports that automatically sense the correct speed while Auto Uplink on the ports adjusts for the different types of Ethernet cables. The FS605's sleek case has lights on the front for easy monitoring. Installation into your home network couldn't be simpler and, once powered on, it begins cool and silent operation without an internal fan.

Cost effective way to expand a wired network.
Strengths: Small & cheap. Figures out the uplink on its own, no configuring to do, no special wires for the uplink either, just a regular ethernet cable.
Weakness: None so far
Just plugged it into an open port on my router/switch/WAP combo, plugged in my other components and was ready to go as if I had plugged the other components directly into my router. I kind of forgot that I had it - out of sight, out of mind.

This was my first stand-alone switch and I expect there to be some setup involved. But all I did was plug in the cable from my router and the cables from my computers and everything was working. I have a server with a built in print server, my computer and a wireless access point plugged in to the network simultaneously with little if any noticeable slowdown. It can also be put in someone's office and is so small that it isn't noticable.
