Cost effective way to expand a wired network.
5 Star Review   By member sbelekevich - Jul 6, 2007

Strengths: Small & cheap. Figures out the uplink on its own, no configuring to do, no special wires for the uplink either, just a regular ethernet cable.

Weakness: None so far

Just plugged it into an open port on my router/switch/WAP combo, plugged in my other components and was ready to go as if I had plugged the other components directly into my router. I kind of forgot that I had it - out of sight, out of mind.

FS605NA Fast Ethernet Switch
4 Star Review   By member alltoohuman - Nov 30, 2005

Strengths: ease of use;small

This was my first stand-alone switch and I expect there to be some setup involved. But all I did was plug in the cable from my router and the cables from my computers and everything was working. I have a server with a built in print server, my computer and a wireless access point plugged in to the network simultaneously with little if any noticeable slowdown. It can also be put in someone's office and is so small that it isn't noticable.

NetGear FS605NA Fast Ethernet Switch
5 Star Review   By member songwei67 - Oct 24, 2005

Strengths: Small size. Look decent. Good performance. Affordable

Weakness: Power adaptor is a little bit to big.

The plug and play installation make it very easy to set up, no further configuration needed. The unit can auto-detects speed and duplex. The small size occupies less space. Even more the vertical stand make it save more space on your desk. This unit works great. Expand your home network without problem. Besides the price is affordable.

Nice and small switch, lightweight, and works well!
4 Star Review   By member totallyworfless - Aug 30, 2005

Strengths: Very easy to set up-- only a few instructions, plug in the power, connect the ethernet wires, and the lights should light up and you're set! Very small and lightweight=portable

Weakness: Big power adapter

I found that this was a very good product. I was able to connect everything in a matter of a few minutes. Everything worked as stated and I ran into no problems. I liked how lightweight and small the product was. It makes carrying it around very easy. The only thing I didn't like was the heavy and clunky power adapter which isn't too big of a deal.

Great switch at a great price
4 Star Review   By member kmcmaugh - Aug 28, 2005

Strengths: Small size, performance.

Weakness: Power brick is bigger than it needs to be.

Plug it in, it works. Note that the illustration is not the same as this new model. The new one is much smaller, and the led's are on the top rather than the front.

3 Star Review   By member hdsouza - Aug 28, 2005

Strengths: Good performance and connectivity

The router is ideal for homes and small businesses. Allthough the B router may not be all that fast it is quite complaint to industry standards and has several features available.

5 Star Review   By member bballcards - Jun 15, 2005

Strengths: Very small, so it takes up next to no space. Self-sensing switch is incredibly easy to use. No configuration necessary, which is a real plus.

Weakness: None. This unit has everything I could possibly expect from a 5-port switch, and it's tiny to boot.

If you need a switch, this is the one to get. You can't go wrong--use the uplink port to connect to the the already-networked part of your LAN, and use the rest of the ports as expansion ports. No configuration necessary--it's hard to screw up with this unit. Netgear items are also very reasonably priced--I picked this unit up for $10 after rebate, making it a great value as well.

5 Star Review   By member namgia - Apr 23, 2005

Strengths: No nonsense plug and play

Weakness: Plastic case

NetGear hubs and switches have been my favorites for years. FS605NA continues this tradition. Solid and easy to access connectors. It functions flawlessly never misses a beat. LED indicators are clearly visible. The only negative thing is the plastic case that they started to replace over the original blue metal case.

5 Star Review   By member stevencf - Dec 29, 2004

Strengths: Quick and simple hookup. Auto-detected the computers and wireless DSL Router (ActionTec from Qwest) with no problems whatsoever.

Weakness: None.

I needed a switch since my new ActionTec wireless DSL router wouldn't work with my old wired router. I saw this one and the reviews sounded good. It lives up to its reputation. Nice small footprint so it takes up very little space. The no-brainer hookup made it a breeze. A bargain even without the rebates - but they made it even more attractive!

Strengths: Easy set up. Does what it is supposed to do.

Weakness: None found.

This switch is being used in cross platform network. The network consists of 2 WinTel machines, 1 PowerBook (Macs Rule), and an Xbox. All machines set up flawlessly and work great. I am very happy.

Strengths: Nice and small, easy set up. Worked flawless.

Weakness: None found yet.

I use a whole Macintosh network and some Router/Switches do not play nice with a Mac. The Netgear was a snap to set up and connect to. It plays VERY NICE with Mac OS X Panther and Airport. I am extremely happy to have this little addition to my Mac Network Family.

5 Star Review   By member kglading - Sep 18, 2004

Strengths: Small, light, easy to setup.

I used this switch by connecting it to the output port of a router and expanded my network as I wanted to do. You should know three things: 1) You need an electrical outlet for the power supply. 2) One of the five ports has to be used as an input port (you can use any of the five for this) so you really only get four output ports. 3) If you have no available ports in your network, you will have to use one of the connections for an existing device and then plug the device into the switch, leaving only three additional ports.

5 Star Review   By member jimbop99 - Jun 3, 2004

Strengths: Very easy setup. Small.

I already own a 4 port router but my computer collection has grown to big for it. I needed a switch so the kids computer could have internet access. I've been doing some research on how to add more access points to my current configuration by adding a switch to one of the router ports. Most indicated that a crossover cable would be needed to connect the switch to the router. Well, not this little gem. It auto configures the connections, so no cossover cable was needed. I connected it to my router port, plugged in the computers and the kids are surfin'.

Strengths: I wanted to add flexibility and growth to my home network environment and got it.

Weakness: None that I've seen yet.

If you want to easily expand your network capability, cheaply, quickly...then this product does the job. I got the product in two days and installed it in minutes. Very easy to install and use.
