Tried several packages
1 Star Review

Weakness: All - They simple don't work

Entire package of Memorex DVD+R DL (25) every single one was a dud. Tried TDK's every 5th disk to make sure all else was working. They worked fine. DON'T ever use Memorex media, they are a waste of your money and time.

Watch compatibility - these are junk
1 Star Review   By member r_harvey - Oct 24, 2005

Weakness: I bought a three-pack, and got verification errors on all three burns.

Burner was a SONY DRU-710A, firmware = BYX4 (latest as of 10/05). I paid $3.33 per disk, and all three failed the file verification. Meanwhile, this drives burned RITEK dual-layer disks every day with only an occasional coaster. My recommendation = If the manufacturer of YOUR drive doesn't SPECIFICALLY recommend Memorex 2.4 DL, STAY AWAY!

Memorex 2.4X DVD+R Dbouble Layer Media (25pack)
5 Star Review   By member sotiris - Sep 30, 2005

Strengths: The products works as expected

Weakness: None - based on 5+ burned disks.

Excellent value/price as purchased on Buy.com, in retrospect should have purchased more. The product worked as expected using both Roxio and Easy CD Creator to copy double layer data DVD's and one movie.

Memorex DVD+R DL 25-pack
5 Star Review   By member RyanOC - Sep 28, 2005

Strengths: Least expensive DL disks around. Burn successfully at 2.4x

Weakness: Ave $2 each compared to $.2 for single layer

Dual Layer disks are becoming affordable. It is worth spending $2 to back up a $20 DVD. Despite some negative reviews, I haven't had any coasters with Memorex disks.

Price breakthrough for DL DVD's
4 Star Review   By member johngarner - Sep 28, 2005

Strengths: This media works for all of my DVD players

Weakness: Speed could be faster

This DVD'd are very useful for making backup copies of your best DVD movies. There are some movies that the "Extras" are a great part of the DVD so shrinking them in order to have an archived backup of one of your DVD's is not as useful. Overall a good product for the price.

liked it alot
5 Star Review   By member juddhaag - Sep 28, 2005

Strengths: Very large capacity, cheapest price i found anywhere, high quality

Weakness: didnt play on all dvd players

I was very impressed with the quality of the disks. I could fit so much stuff on one disk. For some reason i couldnt get the disk to work in my sisters DVD player. It still works in all 3 of mine but my sisters didnt recognize that a disk was in the drive.

Memoriex DVD+R Double Layer Media
4 Star Review   By member golfpro77 - Sep 27, 2005

Strengths: Holds 8.5GB for maximum storage.

Weakness: Went through a batch of 15 where couldn't perform disc-at-once thereby making coasters. But for the most part have performed just fine.

I believe there may be better media out there yet have not come across them. These will suffice until media costs drop. As stated, ran through a batch of approximately 15 straight that couldn't perform the closing of the disc.

Pieces of crap.
1 Star Review   By member fudgey - Sep 24, 2005

Strengths: Cheap

Weakness: Burned 10 coasters out of a 25 pack, and counting!

These things are generally regarded as the worst DVD+R DL discs out there. They're cheap for a reason, folks. They're Rebranded RITEK (garbage) discs. I've tried burning to them in 2 different (brand new) DVD burners on 2 different computer, and, as I stated above, have burned 10 or so coasters. I'll be lucky if I get 5 good burns out of this spindle. what a waste!

Memorex 2.4x DVD+R Double Layer Media
4 Star Review   By member kandlg - Sep 21, 2005

Strengths: Good quality - no coasters, no movie compression required, low price compared to other DL media

Weakness: Still much more expensive than single layer

I've burned about half of these disks and haven't burned a coaster yet. I've been using a Pioneer A09 recording at default 2.4X. They have played without any problems on my Phillips DVP-642 and a slimline PS2. My PC DVD-ROM drive wouldn't play back a movie, but it may be a firmware issue. Compared to other DL media, these are a great bargain and the quality is excellent so far. Check compatibility charts for your burner and your DVD player before you buy in bulk.

Memorex 2.4x DVD +R Double Layer Media - 25 pack spindle
1 Star Review   By member jnshon - Sep 14, 2005

Strengths: Now the price of the 25 pack provides the best price per disk at less than 2.50 each. No compression required for most feature length movies.

Weakness: After burning 3 good disks, I've encountered 5 disks with media write errors half way through burning. Several other disks are not recognizable. Very dissatisfied with Memorex quality.

I have a Pioneer DVR-109 in my Dell 8300. I bought a 3 pack a few months ago and they worked fine, so I bought a larger quantity to get the best price.

2.4X DVD+R Double Layer Media (25 pack Spindle)
4 Star Review   By member BartSwank - Aug 23, 2005

Strengths: 2.4X recording is solid. Also, success at 4x burning. Did not try 6x burning (coasters are costly)

Weakness: Price. Even though less expensive than Verbatim, they are still 8 times more expensive than a single layer disc.

Have used most of the 25 pack, with great results. The only 2 COASTERS came on a double burn at 4X (burners were not the same). If you have been waiting to try double layer burning, Buy.com has them for around $75 which includes shipping. LIVE A LITTLE!!!!

Works with the right firmware
4 Star Review   By member sb445 - Aug 8, 2005

Strengths: Lower price relative to others

Weakness: Expensive compared to single layered discs

I had an NEC OEM shipped by Dell. After a few coasters, I researched the reasons why. Unlike DVD+R discs, the DL discs work only with specific drives and specific firmwares. If you use NEC, you need 2.18 version. You can easily upgrade your firmware by going to NEC site. Once you fix that, these discs work like a champ. More affordable than other DLs. If you want to play any dual layer media to play on your home DVD player, you need to set the booktype to DVD-ROM. This advice is not specific just to Memorex. You need to do that with all brands.

High quality! Fast recording!
4 Star Review   By member bmustang67 - Jul 7, 2005

Strengths: High quality, works first time. This is the best deal I have found for dual layer media.

Weakness: Disks are still expensive.

No more transcoding. Using a dual layer disk allows for a fast and perfect reproduction without loss of video quality. I had success at 2.4X with my first dual layer burn on a Philips 8631 ( included with my Dell 8400).

5 Star Review   By member ha-evolution - Jul 6, 2005

Strengths: Good quality, Fast burning

Never burned a coaster yet with these disks, unlike other manufactuer's dual layers. They are rated for 2.4x they will actually burn faster if your drive is capable doing so. The price may seem a little high (especially compared to the cost of two single sided discs) but the price has come down alot in the past few months. Top notch product overall.

4 Star Review   By member doctorbridger - Jun 29, 2005

Strengths: Much cheaper than the other double layer disks generally available.

Weakness: Still expensive.

Much cheaper than the other double layer disks generally available, but still expensive. Nice to have entire copied disk on the disk without having to compress the parts of the disk you want copied.

4 Star Review   By member nedburlesonii - Jun 23, 2005

Strengths: The price of this spindle is the best for the double layer format that I have found. Since you do not have to compress video from movies, entire disks record fairly quickly, transferring all content.

Weakness: While the least expensive alternative, it is still a bit costly at $3.00 plus a disk, even when discounted.
