Strengths: Very nice and easy to install and hook up, provides a nice sound for a small, afordable USB based system.
Weakness: Some ( very few ) games and programs do not allow USB based sound.
Very nice overall USB based speaker system, With the small sub and the two satelite speakers, just make sure you install the drivers and such from the cd before plugging it in to avoid un-necessary complications, Overall a great small, low-priced speaker system.

** Common problem with Yamaha computer speaker systems ** I bought the Yamaha YSTMS201W for use with my laptop that I would use in the living room. I placed it on the bottom shelf of the bookcase directly adjacent to where I was gong to use it. When ever I used it I would pull it out and place the sub woofer on the ground in front of the shelf where it sat most of the time. (When doing this I lowered it 1 inch and brought it out from the shelf about 1 foot). After this I would place the satellite speakers on the table just about one foot above the sub woofer. I heard increasing crackling (while use the unit) and I determined that it was coming from the "8 din" cable that come from one of the satellite speakers and connected to the sub woofer. I attempted to jiggle the connector in the socket (similar to a toilet handle), but it increasingly was ineffective in fixing the problem. I emailed Yamaha, faxed proof of purchase, and requested that I would like to get a different product model that didn’t utilize the “8 pin Din” as I had already returned the product once to CompUSA and the problem had thus happened a second time. They stated that all their products, except for the 2 speaker systems, contained the “8 pin Din”. (This is why I suggest that you NOT look any further to buy any Yamaha products). In short, they did give me my money back (taxes not included) after much hassle. I did many times request that I send the unit in so they could see what I was describing. The manager of the customer service department stated that they mass produce these and sending it in wouldn’t effect or product a change in its production. Yamaha didn’t seem to care how it’s future products would perform. Additionally, costumer service constantly tried to bridge the problem between moving the unit and the problem. Yes, I did move it, but the little bit I did move the unit shouldn’t have caused the problem. I stated to Customer Service that this product shouldn’t have been this fragile that barely breathing on it would have cased a self destruction. I put alo of time into this so those looking to get Yamaha won’t. Yamaha should make there products better so that moving it one inch or one foot won’t matter. entertrashhereatbigfootdotcom to reach me.
