Strengths: Fantastic sound Quality Professional Audio Looks Strong Bass Excellent Features

Weakness: None considering the fact that these are a set of multimedia speakers and not professional audio setup

These are one of the best set of speakers i have ever used. I own the latest Logitech Z5500 Digital and also owned the Klipsch. These speakers have excellent highs, mid range and the lower frequencies. The Control Pod is large but then consider the fact that it holds Dolby Digital, DTS and Dolby Prologic2 so i wouldnt really mind the size of the control pod when it has all the three formats, its just matter of which format dvd you throw at it and it is ready to take it. The Logitech Z 680 are just amazing for music. It is really clear and crisp for music reproduction. For gaming these speakers just rock you apart, as it houses an 8" subwoofer, so you always feel in the middle of the action with all the rumbling and the bullets passing by your head. Its in the movie department that these speakers really shine. I tried Gladiator, The Matrix, King Kong. I was amazed at the sound quality while watching a few scenes from these movies. If you have the right ambience in your room while watching movies you wont need any other speakers besides these....and trust me you would never need to go to a movie theater. Finally i would say these are the speakers that you need to take your pc to the next the level. It just depends whether you want to spend the money into buying these babies or not. But if budget is not your concern then believe these are the only speakers you will ever need. Finally "Hear it to Believe It"

Strengths: fairly nice sound

Weakness: control pod broke and can't be fixed or replacement purchased

I will never purchase another Logitech product. I wasted much time with customer service in California, incurring long distance charges. Logitech's customer service is the worst I've encountered anywhere. Why would anyone want to buy a product that doesn't include service? My advice, DON'T BUY THESE OR ANY LOGITECH PRODUCT, PERIOD.

Strengths: Outstanding - one of the best speaker systems I've heard at ANY price.

Add my voice to the chorus... this is an outstanding speaker system, and absolutely the best bargain to be found. I have it hooked directly to the DVD with an optical input... the imaging is superb. It beats home theater systems I've heard costing 10X more. Logitech has a winner here... the only thing I've thought of that could make it even better would be on-screen display for use with the remote.

Strengths: Ease of use, sound quality, several digital input, price

Weakness: poor qualitty of the remote (design & weak signal)

Other than the remote which I think could have been a lot better, this surround sound system is just plain GREAT. It was easy to instal, works great with the optical output of my PS2 and my DVD player. It also works wonders with my digital cable box. DTS surround sound and digital movies = much better movies :-). This system is simply great. I've owned it for 16 months (maybe more) and still love it.

Strengths: Full-featured decoder, good selection of inputs, good bass (see comments), easy to set up and control, good overall sound quality

Weakness: it's hard to see the display if you are not at the right angle and close enough; the bass is too heavy in the upper region and not controllable

I bought this system as part a traveling AV system for vacations, etc. I enjoyed the sound very much but upgraded the satellites and center to BIC DV32's with Ed Frias-modified crossovers. This produced a sound that is far richer and more detailed, especially in the mid ranges (the stock speakers were thin in the low mids), plus the imaging improved a little. I'm looking for someone to adapt a low octave EQ to the sub now that the sub doesn't need to make up for the lack of a lower mid-range. The sub overemphasizes this region and sounds way too boomy. All in all this is still the best compact surround system I've heard.

Strengths: Extremely good sound quality. Bass is surprisingly powerful.

Weakness: The control pod is relatively large. Would be nice to have RCA jacks as an input.

I received these speakers two days ago, and they are better than I expected. I read all the reviews I could find on the Z-680s, and I was worried about the hissing that many people complained about. After setting them up, I held my ear close to the speakers, and could detect a faint hiss, but once I spread them across the living room, I couldn't notice it. The sound from these speakers is amazing. I had a Sony surround sound system before, but they couldn't hold a candle to these speakers. It's like being at a movie theater. I thought the bass, mids and highs were all outstanding, but my neighbors didn't. Keep in mind these things are powerful, so if you live in an apartment, you may have to put a leash on them. The only negatives I would note are the control pod is large and it lacks RCA jacks, but you can buy a simple adapter.

Strengths: Great sound quality. Extremely loud. Audio in and headphone connectivity directly on control panel.

Weakness: Buttons on control panel feel cheap. Grills and remote could use a better design.

The speakers sound great. Not only is the sound quality way above average, but they are loud. In fact, the subwoofer is so loud, I'm glad the speakers have the option to adjust it's volume separately. Although the Klipsch might acheive more accurate highs, they are in a different price bracket. The grills snap on and off easily. The Audio in and headphone jacks on the control panel are very convenient. Several people have mentioned an annoying hiss. I did,in fact, notice a very slight hiss, but only when I was not playing music, and I had the volume raised. If this happens here is how to fix it: turn the volume down. tada. The hiss is definately not a deal-breaker. And I probably would not have noticed it if everyone hadn't been complaining about it.

Strengths: High clarity , nice bass , conectivity , price

Weakness: White noise hiss, heard when very close to speakers,

First thing and the one noticeable flaw about them is the small amought of white noise heard when you are close to them from all speakers it's very little and will not be noticeable when playing music but due to this i can't give them a five star rateing. I soon forgot about that - point The clarity is impressive voices can be heard clearly. The bass is thumping and somewhat boomy however some people prefer this and i enjoyed them. The connection's are another plus point (for example I have everything hooked up, nvidia via soundstorm coxial , ps2 via optical, m audio revolution via direct, psx via input on the front, and the headphone jack is a nice little extra and mutes the speakers when used great for night time use. All these connections make it very easy to to connect up to your consoles or pc. The speaker's themself's look quite sleek and would fit in well with most rooms i'd reccommend removeing the grills. Not only do they look better but removing the grills improved the sound slightly better to me. I'd also reccommend changing the speaker wire that you get with it. The control pod is quite big and has a nice blue backlit display on the front the text is only noticeable at certain angle's. Apart from that it's a nice easy to use control point for the system. decodes dolby digital ,dts and dolby prologic 2 modes. The remote is very basic and plain looking but it has all you will every need to use with it. it works Overall the power should be enough for most people i've never needed to turn them up more than halfway otherwise neighboors would complain :) the bass is very strong and reacts quick, during a scene on pirates of the caribbean the cannon fire actually caused my glass picture to fall of the wall :) at it's default setting you might want to lower the bass a little unless ur a bass person :) the midrange and highs are very clear and dialog is again very clear :) Concluesion it's amazing what these give you for the price. And at this price the logitechs cannot be matched for power price or features. :)

Weakness: Stop the hissing!!!

I tried for a week to ignore the hiss, but everytime I powered up the speakers while sitting at my computer it instantly enveloped me in a loud, surround-sound, white-noise field. The hissing was evident whether I was 1-inch or 6 feet away from any of the speakers. Sure, while listening to music or playing Call of Duty I could tune out the hiss, but when nothing was coming through the speakers it was so annoying I had to turn them off. Logitech customer support was absolutely no help. Support person had me check the firmware (V1.1.2), told me that I would have to take them back, refused to ship me a new control pod, and refused to pass me off to his supervisor. Funny thing was he said they were not defective but that I had to take them back...hmmmm, if they aren't defective then why do I have to take them back? He couldn't answer that question. So my only option is to ship these monsters back (that is going to cost me), pay the restocking fee, and search for another set of speakers. After the treatment by Logitech customer support I can honestly say I will never buy anything from them again. Consider yourself warned. Update. After returning these lemons I bought the Klipsch Promedia Ultra 5.1s. Ahhh, no hissing, just clear, crisp sound. Strongly recommend you spend the little bit extra and get the Klipsch.

Strengths: Superb sound quality, earthquake power bass, dolby digital and DTS.... quality comparable to ProMedia 5.1 Ultra

Weakness: Some may experienced hiss with old rev 1.03 but 1.12 has minimized the hiss and not noticable if speakers are 2-3 ft away from your ears.

I've tried ProMedia 5.1 ultra, I also experienced hiss from their speakers when you are very close to them or your room is extremely quiet just like Z-680. I do hear hiss when my room is very quiet with my computer turned off but if I'm not listening to anything, I would power off Z-680. As soon as I want to play games, listen to music, play movie, I turn them back on and there're no hiss while there are sounds coming from these speakers. I use 6-ch analog for games, gives me very accurate sound with audigy 2 zs pro, dolby music while playing MP3, and dolby DTS while playing DVD movies. Even though they all sounded 'bout the same, their sound quality definitely comparable to Klipsch ProMedia 5.1 Ultra. Considered their prices, Z-680 sure is the winner.

5 Star Review   By member Gamedevil - Dec 12, 2003

Strengths: The phattest woofer out there today (188w), Great center speaker. Optical, Coaxial or simple analog connections, Built in DTS & Pro Logic II Decoders

Weakness: If no music or oter sound is played you can vaguely hear a faint hissing sound in ALL of the speakers, not just the center as most people say.. (how did this come through the THX standard)

The speakers are great. The only flaws would be the faint hissing sound and the only cable that comes with the package isn't gold plated, nor are the wires for the speakers sufficiently long (3x5 metres and 2x 2,5m)Nor are they copper.. crappy quality which I threw away almost immediately. Considering the great big wired remote (with nicely blue LCD display) got connections for Analog output, Optical & Coaxialis a great bonus, enabling the feature of connecting the pc speakers to your DVD player, Playstation 2 or X-box. The packade also comes with a small wireless remote (which I personally fancy a lot) If you now would like to change the settings or volume from your sofa. The bass is the ultimately the biggest out there for PC's today (188W) compared to Creative Megaworks 150w. Though the sattelites of the Z-680 systmen are only 62w except the center speaker which is 69w. This compared to Creatives bigger system that has around 75w in all the sattelites, including the center. In other words megaworks has better treble while Logitech z680 has better bass. Conclusion: The two speaker systems L Z-680 & Creative 550 are around the same quality in sound all in all, the z680 costs about a 100 USD more. But Megaworks cannot be plugged into you dvd player nor has it a built in DTS decoder, but if you have Creatives Audigy 2 soundcard plugged in you PC you won't have to bother. But Megaworks does not supply digital connections nor a wireless remot.. you pay for what you get

Strengths: Design, Sound Quality, Earthquake BASS!!!, Phase corector... I could write a book :)

Weakness: It's quite big propability that you'll get older version of Control pod firmware (1.0.3) The speakers wont work good. I returned mine. Bought them somewhere else and I got newer version (1.1.2)

Great Speakers!!!When they work:). Idon't want other speakers!!!But you have to watch out for sales. If they are cheaper than 300$ it's quite big chance that those are old version ones...Check the firmware (put them on stand by,and press two upper buttons simultainously, hold them, firmware version should appear on the display) If you got 1.1.something or higher it's ok. 10/16/03 - EDIT Don't buy them... Mine just break down second time. I'm giving them last third shot. If my third set would have any problems, I'm going to buy something else. (This time whole subwoofer went down - blowing a fuse, changed fuse, blowed again) They sound great, but what good are they if they dont work. I'm a "little" dissapointed, because i love how they sound.... That's it. 10/21/03 -EDIT Ok my third set works fine, I'm extremely happy with it. So the sound quality in my opinion is on 5 stars, but i cut one because i had to replace them twice to get a working set. And don't listen to people that say something about Megaworks, because they break more often than logitech, and dont sound so good. Only one set that is equal or better to logitech's z680 are: Klipsch Promedia 5.1 (but those also break alot), and the upcoming Creative Gigaworks with titanium tweeters, UP TO 40kHz!!! ... But that's my opinion only... Cheers...

Strengths: sound, design, connection options, sturdy controll panel

Weakness: control panel is twice as big as I would like, even turned down they had a full sound, failing to mention hiss-killing-cure in manual

I bought these expecting quality sound, even at laud valume, crisp even playback of music, and mainly to "feel the explosions" in my games. I got way more then I expected, and my expectations were alot. I spent a while getting the bass volume just right (they get as load as you want). These have power, I had to clean off my desk and bookcase because everything that could rattle did, except the bass speaker. This is my first speakers that have satellites that really help with mids and lows, very balanced once I got the bass turned only 1/4th the way up. There was a hiss, I thought SPDIF connections are supposed to get rid of the "hiss" you hear in speakers. So I tried moving the speakers to an outlet on a diffrent circut breaker then my computer, and now I can only hear a hiss if I turn them all the way up and move to within 1 foot of the center speaker.

Strengths: High volumes with out distortion, heavy bass, appealing look, quality options for different types of sound media.

Weakness: For music on a heavy bass song the bass can overpower the rest of the sound even on low settings of bass for your speakers. Tip: set your bass volume down in windows for the quick fix.

I love these speakers, went from cheap two $30 speakers to these and it's (of course) SO MUCH better. Great for listening to anything, from movies to games to music.

Strengths: Clear highs, Awsome earth shattering bass, no distortion at high listening levels

Weakness: Wires could be longer for rear channels, pod kinda hard to read if you are not in front of it

Excellent speakers. I highly refer them to anybody. I dont have the hiss problem at all. They are quiet as a mouse. This is now my speakers for my home entertainment system. I love the loooks of people faces when they here the awsome power from these speakers as the sound fills up the whole house as I vibrate their beer cans on the table lol.

Strengths: Shear Power

Weakness: Sound is not CLEAN!!!! The *%@$# BLEEPING HISS!!! It's True!!! The speakers HISS louder with amplification, and there's distortion at moderate levels.

Logitech seriously needs to revise this system. I owned a pair of Z 560's and even in analog the sound was much cleaner and crisper than these white elephants. I thought that since the Z 560's performed so well that this newer version must be better..BZZZT! WRONG!!! DO NOT BUY!!!! I am most likely going to send them back and suffer the loss of close to $100....what a mistake! EDIT: I must soften my harsh criticism. After much tweeking of all the numerous performance controls, I finally got these speakers to sound good. I just built a new computer around an ECS K7S7AG mobo with on board sound. I can't believe these speakers sound so good with just a cheezy (small) C-Media audio processor, as compared to my other system's Sound Blaster Audigy. How can a $5.00 chip perform better than a $75 sound card is beyond me, but that's what has happened. These Z 680's are powerful indeed. (A Hint: If your using WMP you need to upgrade to WMP 9 to get the full quality of this set.)

Strengths: Bass,loudness,effects,design.

Weakness: Was... the control pod and that game of logitech about the rms power of the system.

I am saying "was" because logitech replaced the infected control pod with a new one. For the record, the infected unit had an annoying "hiss" sound, no clarity and the "stereo x2" effect didn't work. Now the sound is clear and the bass extremely powerful. About the power now. Sometimes it was 450watts rms and some other times 505 watts rms. When i asked logitech (months ago), they told me that 505watts was the U.S. version of the system. Now they say : "Logitech has updated the way we measure the overall power of the speaker system. Logitech's new method meets FTC requirements and was done to allow consumers to accurately compare Logitech products with those from other multimedia speaker companies". The inference is yours. Over all it's a great home theater system, light years away from the competition.

Strengths: sheer power, nice design and color sounds great

Weakness: the whole system ,ok so I exagerated a bit . It is realy the control pod.

Got the system home and got them up and running played ONE game. Went on line and a few minutes later the whole sys took a dump. The only speaker that works now is the center channel and the volume is almost all the up with nothing but noise coming through. Plus the volume can not be adjusted . I am seriously thinking about some Klipsch ProMeadia . Not anymore am I thinking Klipsch, I like these 680's now. Allow me to explain. I took the first set of defective speakers actually it is the pod that is defective not the speakers themselves) back and got another set. Oh, I forgot to mention the annoying as hell hiss that one of the reviewers didn't believe really existed . Please take my word for it, it is horrible. I have a very high powered amp and yes if I turn it up I begin to encounter a hiss but it can be eliminated by turning down the volume . Not so with the 680's hiss. Anyways back to the new 680's . I must say I am certainly much happier with these one's. Although the control pod volume nob light doesn't light up it is at least working this time. There is still a slight hiss it is much lower with this pod. I also found out that you can get a new improved (I hope it is improved) pod sometime soon (the begaining of the month of May . The bad part is you have to send in your control pod first in order to receive the new non hissing pod. Bummer.

Strengths: Great sound qual, loud, digital coaxial connection

Weakness: THAT GODDAMN HISS, bulky control unit, cheap feel...

Ok, I've had the z560s for about a year now and I love them. (I should mention that I had 2 defective units before I got a good z560 system - it took Logitech more than a month turn-around each time, and i had to pay for shipping) I just got my z680s today and am disappointed. First and foremost: that Goddamn hiss is going to give me a hernia. The hiss is constant and volume doesn't affect it at all. You can unplug all inputs and switch to and input mode and the hiss is still there. The z560s had a hiss, too, but it was a normal level, like any other speaker system, and changed with volume. Also with the z680's is that lame control unit. It's no a deal-killer but man, that thing is huge! It's bigger than the satellites and looks and feels plasticy. I also have trouble getting it to recognize coaxial inputs, too. I have to switch it between the 3 input options and turn it on and off before it recognizes it... I'm emailing Amazon right now about my return...

Strengths: Many inputs, Very loud, powerful bass and a great control pod and remote.

Weakness: The hiss is noticeable but moreso the clearity of the sound isn't there. Most mp3s give off some sort of raspy sound when it hits a certain range, the grainy hiss/distortion happens during vocals.

I previously had 3 sets of Klipsch 5.1s and all the subwoofers died on these units. I exchanged them at bestbuy for these logitechs and noticed the hiss/distortion right away and bought new speaker cables...the sound was still distorted so i returned these and got a new pair, the hiss and distortion was still there...I'm wondering if anyone else notices this type of distortion coming from the left front/rear speakers for the most part. Besides this the product is featured filled but I did like the sound of the klipsch better except for the fact that the subs on the klipsch seems to die very often. Does anyone else hear the distortion i hear...anyone??

Strengths: Powerful bass with clean, high end Great sound imaging

I bought these speakers after reading a lot of reviews, from here and other sites. I was worried with the couple of comments about the speakers "hissing" even though most said they didn't notice it. I was very glad to find out that there is no hiss. They sound amazing and perform better than expected. I spend a lot of time and money on my home theater set-up and consider myself somewhat of an audiophile. I must say to anyone debating whether to buy these to get them. The power of the system is incredible, and the bass is tremendous. I found using my sound cards control panel (nVidia nForce) very useful in balancing sound levels and bass cut-off.

Strengths: Not Rated

Weakness: Control Pod Size

I just popped this baby out of the box and gasped at the size of the control pod! ITS HUGE! I guess they designed the controls for a half blind, crippled, ape. After reading all the reviews I am surprised nobody else mentioned this... I am sure it will be a worth while purchase in spite of the bulky controller.

Strengths: Built in Digital Decoder, Bass, Optical and Coax Input, Bass, Blue backlit for control pod, bass...

Weakness: Center speaker has to be adjusted down so that it doesn't face up when placed on monitor. Doesn't come with digital coax or optical cable.

All around these speakers are the best I've ever heard. I've heard the Klipsch ProMedia 5.1's and the Klipsch just don't compare. Plus it comes with a digital decoder just that alone is well worth the purchase. Oh and as far as the hissing I don't know why people point it out, the only way I hear it is if I have my ear up against the center speaker. Now I don't know about you but I doubt I'm going to have my ear up against any of the speakers. Bottom line if you are looking for some quality speakers in the $250 range definitely look into getting the Z-680's.

Strengths: Very easy setup, great design

Weakness: None that I can see

Final component of my homebuilt system, sound is incredible. Complaints of hissing are greatly exaggerated. When it is in use, it is a non-problem. My system is powered by a motherboard with built-in sound chip, including SPDIF output. I am using the coax option. Definately sounds much more clean, compared to my old system. Like other reviewers, I was concerned about the 'hiss', but was quite pleasantly surprised.

Strengths: well designed, sounds great, easy to use

Weakness: i would like more inputs, to control all my devices, and make this the heart of my surround system

there is no hiss.... systems works great as advertised.... there is allot of misinfo out there.... try them yourself... i suspect the folks experiencing hiss probably have a POD placement problem.... you can make the finest systems in the world hiss by stacking components etc.... or by mismatching impedances or by under-driving an input... 10:1, the folks posting to this BB about a hiss problem either work for a competitor or have no clue how to hook up even a simple stereo..... use your head.... I've been in sound reinforcement for years.... 40 years ago a comparable system wouldhave cost $1,000s.... even then, the tech wasn't there to give the specs this system has.... I suspect this may be the best sys for the $s out there.... Logitech must be selling this system as a loss leader.... maybe the the competition can't compete... the comments about hissing problems seem to be false.... notice how they always mention a competing system they will be buying??? sure thing.... I think these comments are disingenuous...

Weakness: HISS

Just received a new set of Z-680s and have the same hissing problem that another user describes below: "As for the hissing, the hissing on the logi's (the set I had) wasn't a normal hiss (for the record my pm's don't hiss at all until they are at 70 of 80 volume) I could unplug the 680's from the computer and turn them all the way down, and they would still hiss audibly from 3-4 feet, logitech said it's a control pod problem." I just got of the phone with a rude Logitech customer support rep who tried to explain this as "normal". When I referenced the control pob problem, he back peadled and admited that there was indeed a problem which the company plans to fix in a later release (date unavailable); however, no fix exits right now for those on the market and in my house! Bottom line, is I'm returning these to the vendor today! Thinking about trying the Monsoon MH-505 6PC Flat Panel Speaker System given the price high sound marks it scored in a prior review by Dave. Would welcome other suggestions as I'm looking for an affordable speaker set that excels in sound quality (DVDs, CDs, mp3, etc). I'm running XP home and have an audigy sound card.

Strengths: Extreme power throughout volume range. Brilliant execution, neat digital control center, optical and coax inputs, sub can rupture vital organs, cool stereo modes and 450 WATTS OF RMS POWER!!!

Weakness: Faint hissing from all channels, most prominent in the center. Ill get over it.

These are the best speakers in the world. Having previously owned Klipsch 2.1s, Creative Inspire 5300s and Logitech Z-640s, these are by far the best. The Klipsch 5.1s may be slightly better in clarity, but you are losing so much in value. The 680s have a nifty digital control center, on-board Dolby Digital, Pro Logic 2 and DTS decoding. The sold-separately Dolby Decoder available with the Klipsch sells for an additional 100 dollars, meaning you would have well over 400 dollars invested in them. When I bought the 680s, they were only $270. In addition, they look far more modern. They can also easily be used as a home stereo. I commend Logitech on a job well done. If you like music, play games, or are an audiophile, GET THESE SPEAKERS and you wont be sorry. And don't get them from MWave, because they cant count shipping days :)

Strengths: crystal clear sound

Weakness: cannot accept proper anaglog input from my sound storm, hissing, "pok" when i switch the input

when i bought the product, they state it is a 500W, but when i receive it, it is only 450W (www.thenerds.com) the product between 450W version and 500w version is very blur, logitech claim that they are selling 500W version now but I still can get the defective 450W product. and when i write a letter to ask the reason, they simply do not wanna answer (i mean here is the www.thenards.com)

Strengths: Sweet design, lots of power, great sounding audio!!!

Weakness: Eardrums that can't take the volume up too high, for too long without ringing...^_^

If you own any of the newer soundcards by Turtle Beach or Creative Labs, compliment them w/ these speakers. If you're deciding between these or the "Klipsch ProMedia 5.1", pick these, only 50 watts less power, but more than makes up for it with a whole lot of preset audio modes, coax & optical inputs, and audio quality that easily rivals the Promedia 5.1's. Oh, don't forget the sweet LCD display, the remote control & the much lower price. I can't understand how "The Screensavers" or TechTV, voted the Klipsch Promedia 5.1 as speakers of the year for 2002 over these beauties. And I say this having owned both. Now, buy'em!!!

Strengths: Dont buy these--see below

Weakness: HISS !!! HISS !!! HISS!!!

Um these speakers always emanate a hiss sound. If you are listening to music or playing a loud game it is un-noticeable, and the speakers sound very good, however, if you leave these speakers on when you are using the computer any other way, you can always hear an annoying hiss from all speakers. Logitech told me this was normal in any HIFI product. They also said the speakers were DESIGNED to be wall mounted. (Then why give the stands?) Who has a wall for their front center speaker? Anyway, go with Klipsch 5.1 or Cambridge MegaWorks before these things.

Strengths: Awesome control pod and digital decoding. Very nice sub that feels good. No woofing air from the port (U-shaped) unlike the Klipsch. Nice remote. Cool satellite design. Just plain looks cool.

Weakness: Very annoying hiss constantly produced from speakers which voids any benefit digital connections would have. Very bad digital decoding transitions (esp. DVDs) that causes very loud pops/clicks.

I was very excited to get these speakers and had read all the reviews all of which were outstanding. I also heard from a lot of forums that the speakers hiss and have problems with changing digital audio streams. I thought that if it wasn't mentioned in the reviews I'd be ok and it wouldn't be that bad. Once I got them though I was very disappointed as I was expecting the BEST. A lot of people, even reviewers, have been so blind-sighted by the excitment of a digital control tower and good design and the laurels of the Z-560s that they didn't say a word about these very large manufacturing defects. READ AROUND BEFORE YOU BUY. If the speakers will be within 15 ft. of you're listening position you will DEFINITELY hear the hiss. If we wanted hiss we'd just have thrown out the digital connections and stuck the audio cables next to a 500W halogen bulb with a dimmer switch. Anybody for an LP??? As far as I can tell it is common to ALL Z-680s. Review forum here: www.neoseeker.com/foru... Wouldn't recommend them unless you don't care what they sound like when the volume isn't really high.

Strengths: Powerful crisp sound w/deep bass. Digital control panel. Optical & coaxial digital connections. Can hook up to separate components (i.e. DVD player & computer)

Weakness: I haven't found anything I don't like.

These are simply the best, THX Certified 5.1 Dolby Digital speaker systems you can own. I bought them specifically for my computer, but with the numerous connections, I was able to connect my DVD player directly to the speakers via the control panel. I have a Soundblaster Audigy sound card, but need to order a special cable from Creative so I can hook it up to the speakers- this is not the fault of Logitech. You would think the leading sound card manufacturer would use a connection that is compatible with other speakers than their own. There are Coaxial & optical digital connections along with analog connections. This speaker system is not just for computer use, you can use it as simply a home theater. Before these, I owned Logitech's Z-560's. I thought it was not possible to top greatness, but Logitech did just that. Contrary to what the review above this one reads, you don't need to use the analog jacks to get 5.1 sound- I get 5.1 digital sound with my DVD player hooked to the coaxial jacks. Perhaps the person who wrote the review does not realize that regular music CD's aren't 5.1 compatible and won't use the center channel. This isn't something that most people are aware of and is the case with all 5.1 systems. If you want movie theater sound that gets very L-O-U-D and still sound clear as a bell, then these are the speakers for you. They sound so good that I sold my stereo system.

Strengths: Really nice control center, very useful remote control, good high's and lows, everything you need to get your gaming, music, and DVD's on!!

Weakness: Same desing as the Z-560's

When I bought the Z-560's a few month ago, I was very impressed by the sound and volume, when I bought this set of Z-680's, I was blown away by everything about this system!! The satalites dont sound as good as the Klipch 5.1's, The sub sounds about the same as the Klipch but thats no biggy. The control center is the hottest part of the whole system, its all digital! The price may be kinda high but its all wirth the price. Its the best speaker system ever made, HIGHLY RECCOMENDED!!!

Strengths: Prologic 2 decoder as well as 5.1 dolby, DTS decoder ,optical input for true digital connection

Weakness: Factory wires very low quality, digital display might be hard to read at all angles

If your looking for sonic sound this is it. Just replace the factory wires with some quality 16gauge wire some gold clips and your set. With the optical input the quality is just stunning. Far as the hiss, yes there is a hiss its very faint and is not upsetting. The decoder worked with ease when connected to a dvd player. I called Logitech about the 450watt and the 500watt difference they informed me they changed the way the test was performed to be more competitive. hardware wise exact same, so I was told!!! How can a THX certified product simply change the test? George Lucas how can you let this happen?
