Weakness: This card sucks on Windows XP+. if you have windows 98 (which you should be upgraded from) then have this lame card. If you are currently using Windows XP and buy this card, sell on Ebay or break it.

Integrated sound is more stable than this. It is not recommended for windows xp in which i found out later. As the guy above says, i am now using a different sound card and this scummy live card is gathering dust on my closet shelf. Its a shame it did not work, i would like to experience some "strenghts."

Weakness: wont work with windows xp very good

I have installed this card 4 times in my hp a350n. I have spent hours with tech support on the phone and the web. After 3 days center speaker quit working and after 5 days so did my rear channels and the mic port never worked at all. Sent back and got a new one and have the same problems at this point it is sitting in my closest gathering dust. Sound blaster blames hp and hp blames sound blaster but i know for a fact with windows xp and a 2,8ht pent 4 and 1.5 gigs of ram and a 160hard drive it wont work the drivers are not approved for windows xp

Strengths: Very very high quality sound very stable card

Weakness: i purchased in 1999 for $199.00 so for me is how much i paid.

The card has lots of software sound mixer, edit sounds, supports midi devices, microphone, joysticks, game pads and more. i have 4 speakers hooked up 2 front 2 rear and a subwofer, Video game company's always support sound blaster supported drivers built in, i have never had the sound in a game not work it always works. I have played divx, mp3, wave file's, and more. with no lag or drag at all My computer is 400 mhz AMD cpu, 16 mb graphics card and 5400 rpm hard drive if you have a very slow computer i guest your sound could drag but, when i load the software for sound blaster they recomened at least a 133 mhz min or greater in speed this is a great card at this price

Strengths: Rich feature set

Weakness: EXTREMELY unstable

This is the worst product you can put in your computer. It's well documented that the Live! family of cards causes severe stability issues. Don't take my word for it; do a quick internet search and you'll see what I mean. I have the Live! 5.1 Value, and even after updates and patches, I still had major stability issues. When I pulled the card out, my system became stable as a rock. If you can do without 5.1 audio, stick with the on-board audio. If you want the 5.1, go for the Turtle Beach Santa Cruz; you won't be disappointed.

3 Star Review   By member Craig_A - Sep 23, 2001

Strengths: Low cost, lots of software included, Soundfont capability

Weakness: Noisier than the specs would lead you to believe, Liveware latency

This is a nice card, but I have several quibbles: 1)I do a lot of recording, and What I hear when monitoring is not what I hear during playback. Sounds seem to be thinner and upper octaves sound filtered. 2)The drivers are not the best in terms of latency. 3)I am not a big fan of Audio HQ, it is not very intuitive, and the included CD player has terrible latency. I sometimes wait several seconds for a track to change after I click the button. Aside from all of that, I DO like the built in sampler, which is available for free on the SB LIVE! website, Vienna Sound font Studio. For most purposes this is a very nice and very inexpensive sampler. I would compare the audio quality to an early 90's hardware sampler, but considering the price, you will not find a better deal! I just purchased an Audigy, so I will see if these issues have been resolved with the new hardware/drivers.

Strengths: Cheap, works.

Weakness: EAX sounds lame in most games, I've had problems with it under Win2K pro, a lot of people have problems with VIA chipsets.

A lot of people like this card, but a lot of people also seem to be having problems. Especially people with VIA chipsets. I've experienced some system freezes under Win2K professional that I don't get if I use onboard sound(blah). I'm probably going to get rid of it soon and pick up a turtle beach.

4 Star Review   By member arsend - Sep 20, 2001

Strengths: Very inexpensive, great software bundle included, has yet to give me any problems in 3 years of use.

Weakness: digital output not as vertial as 4 point analog output

I have had this cad for quite some time and it has been one of the best sound cards that I have ever owned. Its features are top notch, especially when a Digital I/O card is added. The sound is great too and the hardware has not given me any problems. One thing that I do not like about it is when I hook up the digital outputs, the 4-point surround sound seems to be disabled and I can only use the front speakers. This is solved when I switch it to analog mode, and since there is barely any difference between the two modes, I keep it at that setting anyway.

Strengths: great price, great sound, inexpensive

Great card for your dollar. The sound sounds full and not scratchy like on some shady cheap cards. I actually bought a second card for my brother's computer. He always plays video games and comments that it's a good sound card. I've had no problems with it. I would buy this card again if I needed to get another sound card.
