THE GOOD: The <b>HP Photosmart Premium C410a</b> delivers respectable output speed and strong print quality across text, graphics, and photo prints, and features like ePrint and AirPrint increase its utility. THE BAD: The Photosmart Premium C410as main paper tray can only hold 125 sheets, its status LCD is tiny, and the print apps are of questionable value. HP Photosmart Premium C410a
4 Star Review  productwiki.com - Nov 9, 2010

The HP Photosmart Premium C410a is a high speed all-in-one printer with a scanner and fax built in. This printer is built to print faster than most of the rest of the HP line, and is capable of faxing at speeds of up to 3 seconds per page. Printing in black is handled at up to 33 pages per minute, and 32 in color. Duplexing is handled automatically, allowing two-sided printing to be handled entirely by the printer itself without manual intervention. The scanner can be used on a flatbed basis, or the automatic document feeder can be used to perform controlled scans of several documents at once. This printer can be connected to using a standard USB, wired network, or wireless connection. Features Print, Copy, Fax, Scan, Web 2.4 in LCD Print Speed: Black up to 33 ppm, Color up to 32 ppm Print Resolution: Black up to 600 x 600 ... PROS: (1) setup is very plug-and-play, simple and straight forward (2) ability to email documents to the printer and have them print (3) inserting ink cartridges is very easy, no way to put it in the wrong slot or insert it incorrectly (4) panel controls make scanning a simple process, few buttons to push (5) can print photos from a USB thumb drive, no PC required ... CONS: (1) cant scan from a book or anything that keeps the door ajar

For Photos - Great!
4 Star Review   By vsp1 on HP - Dec 8, 2011

For printing photographs up to 8.5 x 11.5 this is a great printer! However, if you also need to do a lot of regular printing I'd find a different printer. For photos this one is great and would be perfect if it did 11 x 14 pictures!

Great Printer!!!
5 Star Review   By Subjectus on HP - Dec 7, 2011

I have had HP printers for many years. Usually for five or six years per printer. This one is the best yet! The print quality is simply amazing! I never expected a home printer to rival the prints I get from professional print companies, but this one does! I was really impressed. Now, the only reason for me to use my local picture developer is for a quantity of prints to save on ink. It still costs me $60 to fill my new printer with ink. All of the all-in-one features on my new printer work just fine. The only other drawback is installing the HP software on all of our computers. HP printer software takes ten times what it takes for any other printer manufacturer I've ever seen. If you can fix that, I will really be impressed.

Great Value so far
4 Star Review   By bowler on HP - Dec 2, 2011

This Photosmart Premium (410A) relaced my old 970 CSE (12 years old) and my Photosmart D7260 (5 year old). Both printers went belly up 2 weeks ago. My D7260 was having issues not accepting the yellow (HP) ink cartridges. Tried several new ones at Staples and the software prevented my photos printing at the highest DPI settings. No help. After going to local Staples and returning 2 printers I finally decided to order Direct from HP. This printer rocks only because the software used in printing photos is the same as what my D7260 used. It lets you use max DPI setting and gave my what I was looking for in a final print even with 5 ink setup. Stiil not quite like the D7260 did with the 6 ink setup. I have not faxed any thing yet but soon. The scanner does good for color photos but my Epson scans black and white better. I also like the software used for scanning multiple photos because it seperates them on screen automatically. Real nice..I have printed between 10-15 (4x6) and (5x7) photos and 50 christmas cards and envelopes and still have the set up cartridges installed. Although 4 inks are telling me to replace them soon, but they are not ready replace NOW. I would have given it all 5's but. I also got a better deal at HP than from local stores until black Friday sales. But I'll give it 9 out of 10.. Tried Espon and LExmark while at Staples. HP is best by far.. Hope they stay in the printer business. Even though I hear they may get printer end. Kevin the bowler

HP Photosmart Premium is Great
5 Star Review   By Crafty on HP - Dec 1, 2011

This is the best printer I have ever owned. I am not the most technilogically advanced person (70 years old), but I found the machine easy to set up and use. The quality of the prints is great. I have two homes. I bought an HP Photosmart Premium for my first home and liked it so well that I bought a second one for my second home, even though I don't really need a new printer there.

Don't Buy It
1 Star Review   By TIHW on HP - Nov 21, 2011

Printing is extremely slow despite this being an upgrade from my prior HP printer, and then within the 1st 2 weeks of owning it, it malfunctioned and I had to spend 2 hours on the phone with technical support (who did resolve the issue), but at a cost of 2 hours of my and support personnel's time to do so). If I didn't need to print for a project I'm doing, I would have returned the product.

Crooked ADF Scans
2 Star Review   By ExhaustedWithThis on HP - Nov 20, 2011

I've used it for over a year now and during the year, my biggest complaint is the scans via the ADF tray are crooked. This is because there is only a single roller in the center. This single roller mechanism is not always good at gripping and feeding documents, especially if they have been folded. My Canon almost always makes straight scans because it has two rollers, one on each side. It's supposed to be a high quality product for a premium price. But overall, the quality of my scans are 1 of 10.

The printer is on a home network and the family use Windows Vista, Windows 7 & MAC. The printer works with the Windows computers wonderfull...the let down is my daughters MAC. We have encountered alot of headaches trying to keep the printer paired with the MAC (will drop the printer Wified or USB in use). Hopefully updates will be coming soon...we owned another HP before this one and had no problem with pairing.

Flawless
5 Star Review   By gizmo45 on HP - Nov 15, 2011

I replaced my C7280 in order to get an AirPrint equipped model to be able to print from an iPad. The features of the C410a are excellent, including the new ink cartidges with a separate black cartridge for text documents. Even with fewer cartridges photos are professional quality. All features work just great, scan, copy and fax. The ePrint feature is very cool, also. HP continues to be the standard for efficient printing in the home office environment. And yes, it does print from an iPad perfectly.

very disappointed
1 Star Review   By oyabun on HP - Nov 14, 2011

After purchasing the printer, I had to call customer service to help set up the wireless feature. Then another call to set up a netbook with the printer. Then 3 calls when the printer wouldn't print. Either this is one of the worst designed products I've ever owned or I have a lemon. I'm disappointed. Two weeks after purchasing the printer, I still don't have printing capabilities. :(

HP 410a
1 Star Review   By Midway on HP - Nov 12, 2011

Not happy after being a HP Printer guy for a long time. Liked all the features which prompted the buy but............ Problems. 1. Ify software/driver sometimes. I always dread updating HP Software since it has locked my computer up before. 2. Bad pickup on ADF which meant handholding often 3. Paper Jams 4. Not great photos..............expecting much better since I have been using PhotSmart printers since early on. 5. Slow to warm up 6. Carriage jam which now prevents printing..........but the carriage moves??? 7. Trouble shooting on HP.com does not improve the situation.....DIW! 8. It likes Ink..............lots of dull razor blades on this one. For the first time I am looking at other OEMs. Never had a reason to look elsewhere before.

Great all-in-One
5 Star Review   By Tax374 on HP - Nov 12, 2011

HP has done it again! A great all-in-one capable of handling photos and general printing without missing a beat. Set-up was easy. HP has finally developed software and drivers that work perfectly with any OS. This machine works as well as the 8500 I have in my office. I am finally able to recommend HP products to my friends and colleagues.

C-410 Premium
4 Star Review   By DaveinTexas on HP - Nov 9, 2011

Overall, a very good product. I do find it to be extremely noisy when compared to my 2610. Main features I like are the e-print and the multi-page function. Dislikes include the aforementioned noise and the length of time it takes to crank up. Would I buy again? Don't know. The price was good, but then HP constantly has this particular machine on 'special'. I hope it lasts at least the 6 years my refubed 2600 series has (actually in year 7, I believe)

c410a
3 Star Review   By louisF on HP - Nov 8, 2011

The lack of a basic documentation in the box that contains the printer makes the installation and the start of operation a real chore !!! The Hp recommendation to use on-line information is good for HP savings $ but a real additional cost to the customer if a hardcopy is preferred and needed for a quick reference ! Also ,when I feed a document from the document handler to make a copy there is a line accross the full page on the copy ; this does not happen when I make a copy from the platen/scanner . I hope that it will correct itsel after a while !!! Louis

I got this last year when our family got Ipads and Iphones. Airprint or eprint was a little wierd to set up but it works fine. My biggest issue is I got it to replace a color lazer. Ink doesnt last very long. It seems we are always avoiding printing or running out of ink...

UNPACKING AND REMOVING PACKING MATERIALS WAS MORE DIFFICULT THAN ANYTHING ELSE IN GETTING THIS PRINTER UP AND RUNNING. IT WIRELESSLY CONNECTED TO MY ROUTER WITHOUT PROBLEM OR DELAY. THE SET UP WAS A BREEZE AND THE FIRST PHOTO PRINTED WAS VERY IMPRESSIVE. MUCH MORE PROFESSIONAL LOOKING THAN I HAD EXPECTED. I LOVE THIS ALL-IN-ONE PRINTER. IT WIRELESSLY CONNECTS TO MY LAP TOP WITHOUT A HITCH. GREAT BUY!

I cannot believe I have to go back to buy separate the USB and pay more for it... Hp.. This is not you.you should provide people with all cords and cable needed for their money.. Very upset.

poor photo quality
3 Star Review   By siverson on HP - Oct 24, 2011

took a while to set up after i bought it. but eventually. also took a little while to get the wireless working. it didn't go at first. have 3 computers on the home network, still not sure how to coordinate them all. it works great with the new laptop. but not the old, or the desktop which it is wired to. photos are only fair quality. have an old HP2210 all in one that had better photo quality. have to admit though. the scanner can scan in 4 pictures at a time making indiviual files is cool!

5 Star Review   By Cliffy44 on HP - Oct 22, 2011

I had purchased two 510 printers; and they BOYH had problems with the Zeen, from day 1. I was happy that HP allowed me to trade in both of my 510's for a 410 and a Laser printer (discussed in a different review. The 410 is non-problematic and a keeper.

1 Star Review   By cantcook4you on HP - Oct 22, 2011

Have purchased only HP all of my life for myself, daughters, and even my mother. New Photosmart Premium C410 keeps malfunctioning. Tried everything. Must use HP cartridges or unit is programed to malfunction. In these economically difficult times, people should have the option of using their choice of ink as long as it is compatible. Recycled ink should be an option. -- Former loyal HP Customer--

don't buy
2 Star Review   By mystery on HP - Oct 19, 2011

I purchased this after having an HP6100 for years which I loved. This unit is cheaply made, the instruction book is inadequate, uses ink quickly and the ink made for this unit comes in much smaller quantities so your always replacing ink if you use the printer much. I have had many problems with it, some of which could have been fixed with a better product booklet. Wish I could take it back.

I purchased the c410a as a replacement for my 3310 which had a fatal jam. No problems with the 3319/02 ink system for 5 yrs. While the c40a features are great, and using the fax and scan worked well, I've had many many problems with "no print" and "failed print" within the first month due to #564 cartridge failuress. The repeated problem is a Oxc19a003f failure which requires a hard re-boot which does work half of the time. The other 50% problem is that whan all systems look good, you will print without one of the inks generating its color, when the on-screen report shows full ink tank. Very frustrating! I think the 564 design/printer head is the culprit. Bring back the 02 inks!

PDF Issues
3 Star Review   By ideahome on HP - Oct 18, 2011

I found the C410 very easy to set up. Once I used it for a few months, I started to have problems scanning documents to PDF files. It is otherwise a good photo printer but it leaves something to desire in a scanner.

Not ready for Lion Users
3 Star Review   By MACOSXLionUser on HP - Oct 16, 2011

I purchased this printer so that I would have Air Print from my iPhone 4, the back-to-back scanning and printing. Also, so that I could do Legal Size scans to my home computer. It worked until I replaced my iMac with a new one with OS X Lion. Under OS X Lion, the scanning has gone by the wayside. I cannot do Legal Size documents, multipage documents come out as individual PDF files. Not everyone has CS4 or CS5 to reconnect the individual PDFs into a single document. HP has not kept up and those of us using Lion are out of luck. HP needs to fix the HP scanner software to work with Lion. In order to have the features I need on my iMac with 16 Gbs of RAM, I have to go to my old laptop with 2 Gbs to scan. It fails when the document is too big. This lack of proper scanner software is more than disappointing. I paid for functionality that isn't there and I'm not happy about that. HP: you need to put an update out there to restore all functions. If not, I'll need to replace my 3 HP printers and scanner (8000, 410 and 2055) with equipment from a competitor.

Don't like it as well as my older ones
2 Star Review   By Butcher1942 on HP - Oct 13, 2011

It goes through ink a lot faster than my last two printers did and the cartridges are not available at my local drugstore. I feel that it is much more expensive to use.

the best printer for the price ever
4 Star Review   By RRprice on HP - Oct 6, 2011

The only reason I did not rate this a 5 overall was it is a little noisy. Other than that it is the best printer for the money anywhere. You will not go wrong with this one. One of the best features is the twq-sided printing. I have had this printer working from the day I got it almost a month ago and the ink that was shipped with it is still over 3/4 full. That is with using it for home, and some small business projects. I printed out almost 200 pages so far and about 75 photos. The print is sharp and clean and the photos will be as good as you can get from a lab. Buy this one and you will not be sorry. I have just ordered new ink cartridges but do not need them yet. Just better to have some on hand then trying to make a special trip to store.

Wireless setup failed
3 Star Review   By xyzzy on HP - Oct 5, 2011

I could only enter 25 of 26 characters for the wireless WEP key. Finally gave up and connected directly to router. After a quick internet search I found claims that the WEP needs to be re-entered if the router loses power. Not sure if this is true. But, the interface to enter the 26 WEP hex digits is a real pain. Our power goes out often enough and I don't want to have to mess with re-entering the key. So, I guess the direct connect being the only way I could get it working was actually a good thing.

Amazing Printer
5 Star Review   By Aly17 on HP - Oct 4, 2011

I absolutely love this HP printer. The setup was easy, the features are fantastic, and the print quality (particularly with photos) is amazing. My photos look like postcards! There were a couple of small ink errors in the first few days of use, but the problems were easily fixed and caused no trouble. Nothing's perfect (although this printer is close to it).

User Friendly, great quality scan and Print
5 Star Review   By PaulT on HP - Sep 28, 2011

Superior Software/Firmware. I have an Office Pro 8500 series all in one and was frustrated with the file size of scanned documents. A performance characteristic that is not advertised. This is driven by the software package built in to each model. Tech support finally understood my complaint, did their homework and recommended this Photosmart Premium C410. I had not considered the C410 because I was looking for a home office printer, not a photo printer. As it turns out, the C410 is a far superior machine to the Office Pro 8500. The marriage of the old school real button dash board and color display panel is very intuitive and user friendly. Building custom scanner settings for the wife and I's computers was very straight forward. We were able to tailor scanner settings to suit our particular needs, name them and import them to the display panel on the front of the scanner. This allows either of us to scan from the C410 dashboard, using our personal settings and the machine sends the scanned document to our own hard drive with only three key entries. We get great scan quality at 40kb/page with the C410 vice the 300kb/page on the Office Pro 8500. This allows us to scan multiple page documents and keep the file size small enough to be able to email and share with colleagues, friends and family without concern for the capabilities of the machines on the other end. I do appreciate that the initial ink package seems to be a bit pricey. I find that printing in fast draft mode is easier on ink and gives me surprisingly hi quality documents. Plenty good enough for production briefs and routine documents. By building printer short cuts to suit the intent of my documents, I have been pretty happy with my ability to manage the rate of ink consumption. The scanner feeder is no more or less problematic than any other machine. We routinely scan packages in the 35 page range. About one time in five tries, we have to scan the package a second time because a page is skipped or double feeds with another page. Almost every time, we have been able to figure out that it was do to a dog eared page, or two pages that were stapled and when we removed the staple, we did not do a good job of separating the pages where the staple holes were. We have found that with just a little quality control check before we push the scan button, the machine exceeds expectations. And no, I don't work for HP. But I do appreciate the time and energy they put in to understanding my complaint and pointing me to this machine. Respectfully, Paul T

Our new HP Photosmart Premium 4-in-one series C410a is doing a great job. The one that was replaced was not the quality we've come to expect from HP We should have returned it within the first few weeks when we began to have minor problems. We didn't but we will in the future if we have problems with other products. The new unit is many cuts above! Totally satisfied to date.

Best printer I've ever owned!
5 Star Review   By PrinterPusher on HP - Sep 20, 2011

I had been looking into printers for a long time and had finally settled on a photosmart for the epic quality of the prints. This model had everything I was looking for as far as features go as well as some extra things in there as a bonus. The 5 ink print system is far superior to the old 2 ink system, it is capable of a far wider range of colors. The contrast it gets between darks and lights in incredible. Eprint is great as well and comes in handy when I want to print something from my phone. I would recommend this printer to anyone looking for a good quality machine for home use. Money well spent.

This printer has exceeded my expectations. It was easy to setup. I have never used a fax machine before and that feature was easy to use for the first time. The eprint feature is also amazing. When my insurance agent needed to send me documents for signatures, she tried to email me attachments. For some reason, I couldn't open the attachments so I had her email the documents straight to my printer. Worked great! It prints beautiful pictures. I highly recommend this printer

I can't print pictures; ink hog; Dont buy.
1 Star Review   By jbserv on HP - Sep 18, 2011

This printer is without a doubt the worst printer I have owned. When I try to print out a colored picture,it prints so dark and the colors are so distorted I cannot use them. I have been sending my pictures to Walgreens online to have them print them out. It is also cheaper for me to use Walgreens to print pictures because my ink cartridges are very expensive and do not last long. It seems that there is always at least one cartidge low on ink all the time. Can anyone out there suggest a better printer than this one? I really cant use this one efficiently, even on black and white print because it is an ink hog.

Drivers - painful!
1 Star Review   By thostein on HP - Sep 11, 2011

The good news, the printer set up fine and with no issues for the primary computer in the house. I got the wireless portion up and running fast. What I am extremely frustrated with is the lack of discoverable drivers that simply works witn Windows 7. Win7 has done a great job with dirver support and makes it easy for vendors like OEM to make it a coupl eclicks for us consumers. NOT the case with this printer! When i try to add the printer to other computers in our house, the discovery works great, as expected (Win7, not HPs doig..) When it tries to fetch the needed drivers, it can't. the dirvers site on the HP site is confusing. If i hadn't purchased this online, i'd return immediately for the hassle. Instead i am ranting on this site so that others think twice before this system.

AWESOME!
5 Star Review   By Midwesterner on HP - Sep 7, 2011

First of all, I am 68 years old and consider myself an intermediate in computer knowledge. I have only owned this printer for one week. Yes, their are no printed instructions for set up. You do not need them; just follow the instructions on the printer screen. Make sure you have your conputer turned on and the instalation disk ready. Then just follow the directions on the printer screen. Maybe it took me an hour, I am not sure. But, so far so good. It does everything I need it to do and bought if for. I print a lot of photos and yes, this uses a lot of ink. However, the photos are beautiful. I have a laptop and a desktop and run this printer off both. My laptop is downstairs with the printer, and my desktop is upstairs and I can print off either effortlessly. Don't believe the negative reviews. I purchased from Staples on sale and turned in an old printer for a $50. rebate, so I believe I received quite a bargan. Purchase your ink directly from HP on line and you can save about $5.00 on each cartridge ( I buy the XL cartridges). They ship overnight for free. You can't beat it. I think it is AWESOME. Even if you do not like this printer for any reason you can return to Staples (everything in tact) within two weeks for a refund. What's not to like?

Worst HP printer ever
1 Star Review   By GammyNina on HP - Sep 5, 2011

I have almost exclusively used and bought HP printers. I purchased this one with high hopes of being able to print quality photos of my grandchildren and the wireless capabilities. It uses so much ink and I have never been able to print a quality photo. I have used nothing but hp ink, etc but have been very disappointed in this product, if I hadn't paid $300 for it I would put it in the trash!

Returned this item
3 Star Review   By RetiredCop on HP - Aug 28, 2011

I bought this Photosmart in high hopes of replacing my 3300 HP Series Photosmart. Right off the bat, the paper kept jamming and then when I printed out photos, a vertical streak showed up in all the pictues I tried to print. I returned the product. I was not happy with the quality vs what it cost. However, I will look at another HP printer to buy again. I think HP printers are very good in general.

Less than made out to be...
2 Star Review   By Anonymous on HP - Aug 27, 2011

I purchased this printer to replace my existing HP C7200 series Photosmart all-in-one, but quickly returned it. One of the primary sells of this C410a is the "ePrint" and "eFax" features. However, both are made out to being more than they are. Based on the description and basic name, I took the "ePrint" functionality to imply that HP would make my printer accessible through the internet using my IP Address so that I could access the features and print to it when away - internet printing, basically. But no; it's a matter of sending an attachment to a special email address designated to your printer. You're not able to define your print preferences remotely before sending it to the email address of the printer, and the printer prints one or two additional pages for sorting sake. Needing to make an attachment is all the more of a hassle. What about just wanting to print a web page or an email?? You can't do it unless you first save the webpage or email, and then sen it as an attachment!!! For me, it's simply too inconvenient and cumbersome and doesn't allow me enough control of the print job. Plus, having to email it to HP servers means that all that I'm printing is accessible by who knows!! Same thing with "eFax." eFax is a for-profit internet-based fax company, and your purchase of this all-in-one simply gives you an account with eFax. Don't think like I did about being able to be away from home and remotely making use of the faxing functions on the all-in-one. Lastly, I don't like the new ink cartridges. HP seems to be getting less competitive by making its ink the same as Canon's. I wouldn't be surprised if they simply use Canon's ink and ink cartridges, and then tag their logo to the cartridge.

2 Star Review   By WorkwithApple on HP - Aug 16, 2011

First, there is no printer driver for Apple Lion. Before that with Snow Leopard, the printer did work but jams frequently despite cleaning. The duplex door installs poorly causing some of the jams. Works better when the photo paper cartridge is removed. I purchased with printer to use with my I-phone. The HP representative said I should buy a new printer that would work with Lion. I expect more from HP.

Excellent Printer
5 Star Review   By Macmelody on HP - Aug 11, 2011

This printer uses a lot of ink and is still an excellent printer. Wish that the ink would give as much milage as the 8100 all in one inkjet printer. Otherwise, the quality of the pictures are excellent and it does a fantastic job. I like the size, not too large, not bulky, just right!. Having the double trays were never necessary in the past, so having the single tray, though small is great for me. I like having the picture tray, which allows for small pictures (4x6). Not crazy about the cost of printing. Compared to previous HP all-in-one printers and Photosmart Printers, this one sucks up the ink and doesn't give as many print jobs as previous printers.

Pleased overall
4 Star Review   By wampj on HP - Jul 31, 2011

Have had this AIO for 5 months, now, and am satisfied with it. I have not printed a whole lot of pictures, or done anything overly fancy with it, but the print, scan, and fax functions all seem to work well. The only issues we've had seem to be related to low-ink error messages; when trying to print from a laptop, if there's an error message "queued up" on the printer, it doesn't relay the info to the laptop. You hit "print," and think the job's gone to the printer, but it's actually hung up, until you physically acknowledge the error on the printer itself. This is a relatively minor issue, once you've seen it a couple times (until then, it can be quite frustrating). One other thing (at great risk of having HP not post this): for those of you who print lots and lots - have you considered a bulk ink system?? It's a BEAUTIFUL thang!! HP - you really need to get on board, and offer such a system; until you do, the after-marketers are going to have a field day! Cheers!

Replacement for a HP Photosmart 3300 series AIO
4 Star Review   By oldlady2 on HP - Jul 27, 2011

I purchased this HP Photosmart Premium Fax e-All-in-One Printer - C410a to replace a much beloved HP Photosmart 3300 AIO Printer Wireless which I loved and performed well, until cartridge availability became difficult to find. E-Bay is not my first shopping stop. I do have a couple of complaints. Printing a 4 x 6 index card in the main tray must have some secret code as I could not get it to work unless I put it in the PHOTO tray. Good thing I noticed this immediately or I would have been out 100 sheets of photo paper. Further, using the Photo tray, the priints/cards shoot all over the room as there does not appear to be an external paper stop, unless you are supposed to leave the lid of the PHOTO TRAY in the open position. I am not happy with photos scattering all over the room before dry and collecting dog hair and floor grit on the printer, not entirely dry, surfaces. Several complaints have been made about paper feed. I have experienced this in the PHOTO TRAY and Main Tray. Neither has a paper retainer on the end, just one side. Supposedly, the printer is supposed to sense and feed without the end retainer, but this feature certainly is not yet perfected. Also I get some double paper feeds.

Weakness: Document feeder skips copies, Paper tray defaults to Photo tray, cannot reset on computer, Faxes to outside source are incomplete, Print Head defective, frequent cleaning often says out of ink when not

I have previously used HP printers; however the Quality of HP printers has greatly diminished in the last couple of years. I would never purchase an HP printer in the future. They are now very cheaply made. Poor quality. Cannot recommend.

Down grade from C6150
3 Star Review   By Dsears on HP - Jul 21, 2011

My old HP C6150 crashed badly so HP offered the C410 as an up grade, so long as I returned the old one. I found 2 things that have been down graded from the C6150: First, the printer can only be operated either wirelessly or with UBS cable, but not both at the same time. With the C6150 my desk top was connected with UBS cable and my wife's lap top was connected wirelessly through the house router and the printer could be operated by both without any changes. Now, its either UBS cable or wireless to operate the printer. Second, the C6150 would scan directly into the outlook email, thus all that was needed was to select the address from the addess book and send. Now, one has to write in the address and the scan is sent directly from the printer. I work around this by scanning into a file, and then attaching the file to the email. At least I do not have to retype in a lot of email addresses. The print quality is good, though I have not printed enough to get an opinion on the ink consumption. I can recommend this machine for the good print quality but not for the above problems.

Photosmart C410a
5 Star Review   By billtowndad on HP - Jul 17, 2011

I have owned this unit for 8 months or so and have no complaints with it. I have used HP printers for 20 yrs and as with previous models this one has not disappointed. I wanted the wireless feature and that was one of the main reasons I picked this unit. It prints great photo quality pictures and scans without any problems. I scanned over 50 pictures into my pc in a couple of hours and did not have any problems. The fax works exactly how it should. It copies great. If I had a complaint it would have to be the small volume ink cartridges, but at $10.00 apiece I can't really complain. It is a bit of a pain changing them more often but I try and plan ahead and keep extra on hand so I'm never out. I upgraded from an officejet 6310 and while this one has more features it just took a few hours of studying how they all worked and it was a go. Like I said I haven't had any problems with this printer and I have 4 pc's, a laptop and a Blackberry Smartphone printing to it. If you buy it, just take the time to figure out how it works and you won't be sorry.

Why All the Poor Reviews
5 Star Review   By KenLV on HP - Jul 13, 2011

I have had this printer for more than 7 months now and honestly, I do not know why everybody is giving it such horrible reviews. It has performed like a champ. We put it through constant use (photos and coupons). About 2 full sets of ink tanks a month. I almost wonder if everyone is taking the time to ensure that the settings are correct before rating it. When we first got it, it took a little bit of time to get everything set right in OSX before we got the quality that we wanted. Pros - Crisp, clear photos - Super fast draft printing (It's not perfect printing, but it is draft) - scanner copier work perfectly and easily over the network - Photo tray is great taking 5x7 and 4x6 paper. I don't have to tell the printer to go to the photo tray... it just knows. - fax works without a hitch - WIFI/CAT5/USB connections all work flawlessly - sheet feeder is very convenient for copies or faxes Cons -Seems to chew through ink quickly, but I print a lot. If I had the choice between using extra ink and quality printing, I will take the printing. Advice -- Buy empty ink tanks on ebay and recycle them at your local office store to keep your ink supplies stocked and cheap. Its a great printer and worth it.

Not a fan
1 Star Review   By kgco on HP - Jul 11, 2011

1. Printer does not hold documents in memory if paper runs out. It will dump the remainder of the job in 5 minutes. One page or twenty pages - it will dump what has not printed. My 6850 I replaced did that. The only correction I've found, not via tech support, is to disable spooling and print directly to the printer. However, that method ties up my work screen and doesn't allow more than one print job at a time, of course. 2. Printer changes from English to some language or gobbledygook in mid page or just prints in that foreign tongue. This has occured when printing from the internet from two different sources for documents. 3. Printer does NOT turn on when you send it work. My 6850 did. 4. Printer takes forever to warm up - therefore you either wait to print, or if you send a print job and then turn the printer on or its still warming up, you'll end up going to the printer status screen, have to deselect "use printer offline", then restart your documents. 5. Fast draft prints italicized looking lines every so often mid page. 6. Scanner doesn't seem to have an option to choose where to store scans - I may be missing something here. 7. Bought it at a retailer & I'm 23 days from purchase so I can't return it. 8. We have a large format HP printer for photography, my old HP 6850, HP laptop, HP desktop, 2 Dells and iMac. We've exclusively used HP printers forever, but this one is not one to buy.

Wish I would've got something else
1 Star Review   By char76 on HP - Jul 10, 2011

This is one of the most frustrating printer purchases that I have ever made, this is my second HP printer and by far the worst. I use this printer with my laptop and everytime Windows 7 updates I lose connectivity and everything has to be reset. The scanning function is HORRIBLE, I can never just straight scan documents normally after the first set I have to reload my paper or reboot my laptop and printer all together. You can't scan documents back to back as the printer will say that the printer is in use by another application and will not allow you to go any further and you often have to do this 2 - 3 times before it will actually scan. The ink is a pain, although it's 9.99 per cartridge if you are a heavy printer like me that might last you two weeks. I really wish that I would've gotten another printer as HP will not be my choice next time. A sad waste of money. I could say so much more but I am so disappointed in the fact that I have again purchased an HP printer that does not live up to what they advertise on paper. Great laptops not so great printers.

1 Star Review   By Bail101 on HP - Jul 5, 2011

The photo tray on this product is awful! You have to stand over the printer to continually push the paper back in.. There is nothing to hold the paper in alone, so It will keep telling you that its out of paper. I had the same problem with the last HP printer. I had thought that the printer was getting old, so I purchased this one. Not happy with it at all!!

Awesome Printer

This is a great printer in my lifelong ownership of HP printers, which I gift to friends as I upgrade as I've yet to have one go out on me. I upgraded as I wanted e-print technology in order to allow all my electronics the ability to print to my home printer. iPad works great, cell phones great, home pcs great, work pcs great. The duplex is wonderful, scanning is fantastic, photo and color printing is excellent. We love, love this printer. The separate inks and new ink style are great. Love it! Have recommended the printer often and friends have bought it and love it too! It's a great printer, plain and simple.

Photosmart Premium Fax e-All-in-One Printer - C410
1 Star Review   By Oracle on HP - Jul 3, 2011

This unit gets bad reviews for good reason. It is feature rich, performance poor. Print quality no better or worse than competition. Wireless only works for limited functions. Auto Paper Feed is problematic. Uses lots and lots of ink (biggest problem). And most important my wife hates it. I have been using HP printers exclusively for 20 years, the latest generation is noticable of lower quality in both build and performance from previous generations.

I'm a great HP fan, owning 3 HP laptops and now a third HP printer over the past 10 or 12 years. But I must say that the 410a is not of the same quality as the 5180 it replaced. The 410a's print quality is not nearly as good as the 5180 and the operating cost (ink!!) is at least twice as much as the 5180. The 410a loves to consume lots of ink and although I don't print a lot I find myself buying far more ink for the 410a than I did for the 5180. Nor is the overall quality of the printer on par with the 5180 as I find the 410a to be far flimsier and tempermental. All that said, the 410a is packed with features and I especially love the auto duplex - saves lots of paper. And I have not experienced any of the set up or connectivity issues that other reviewers have experienced. The eprint feature also functions flawlessly and is a brilliant way to quickly print something from my blackberry. Bottom line, the 410a is worth buying if you catch it on sale as I did (paid less than 45% of the retail price), but I hope HP learns not to scrimp on quality of future printers. And learns a lesson regarding excessive ink consumption.

great printer
5 Star Review   By daddy on HP - Jun 27, 2011

i would buy this printer again in a heartbeat.i selected this printer for the fact that it had operation keys i have fat fingers and cannot use those tiny touch screens. as far as the fax operation is concerned i cannot comment for i have not used it and really have no intentions for using same. as i stated before unit was purchased for the fact that it had operating keys.i have owned other printers before hp's but have found that the hp's suited my situations better. had some minor problems during startup but with the fantastic hp support i was soon on my way to perfect printing and performance . again i recommend this printer.if you are considering getting one don't hesitate. buy you won't be sorry.

Not quite sure

Bought this under high recomendation. Went through ink quickly for photos, quality not so great seems like a good printer for quick everyday prints. Don't know if I would recommend it.

Don't buy!!!
1 Star Review   By Wah1 on HP - Jun 11, 2011

This printer is totally unreliable. I've had it 3 months, nothing but trouble. Paper jams all the time. I have had a lot of printers and this is the worst. Trust me, don't waste your money on this printer. If you do you will regret it. I wish they had -star ratings. One star is way too high to rate this printer.

Great Machine!!!!
5 Star Review   By TigerOps on HP - Jun 9, 2011

I work with this and so far have not been disapointed. HP has workhorse dependable products. I use it to create business brochures and presentations. And personal use to create family photos and the quality is very nice. Had an HP 7280 for many years before this and only changed to accomodate Windows 7. My neighbor got the 7280 and they love it, too. Look forward to many productive years with my new HP 410A. It also looks very stylish in my office. Would reccommend this to family and friends........

many software problems
3 Star Review   By dolphinwks on HP - Jun 8, 2011

This all in one has all the features I need & want, but way too many software glitches. Eprint works well, prints great pictures & fax works great. Love the top feeder. Set up was very easy, but I have uninstalled & reinstalled it seven times now, once with a tech on the phone. It works great for a couple of days, then I will start getting error messages. Most frequent is that not all the software is installed, or it just won't print, or that the sd card is inserted incorrectly (have NEVER even inserted an sd card!!!) Also cannot scan from the unit itself. The tech helped me uninstall & reinstall then do some adjustments which enabled me to scan from the all in one for two days, then started getting the same message, that not all the software was installed. We have two windows 7 laptops & a mac hooked up to this printer & having the same problem from all three. Not going to spend another 3 hours on the phone with the tech. Taking it back to Costco.

AWSOME PRINTER
5 Star Review   By swavet22 on HP - Jun 8, 2011

When I went looking to replace my printer with another all in one i compared this unit with a cheaper one. After looking at all the options on this printer I found this had all I was looking for for a reasonable price. The wireless set up was fast and easy along with the cloud setup. I can now print directly from my driod phone. I would recommend this printer for anyone looking for a wireless printer.

Very Disappointing!
2 Star Review   By mjeanl on HP - Jun 5, 2011

It was NOT easy to set up, had to do it over 32 times. It used up all the ink from the cartridges that came with it just to set it up. Glad I had purchased extra. Also it takes forever to warm up to print anything. It is NOT user friendly. I could not just print a picture on regular paper 8 x 11, it kept telling me there was no photo paper. I barely printed any photos and the ink is almost gone on the second set of cartridges. I much prefer my older HP all-in-one.

Perfect solution for me
5 Star Review   By BrendyK on HP - May 19, 2011

I have used HP Photosmart printers since I changed from Cannon. That is at least 16 years now. Photosmart D7160, the previous version wouldn't work with Window 7. No matter what we tried. I was afraid that this one might have trouble too. But, no problems! It faxes perfect, no paper jam problems, I prefect the paper feeder on top. I have even been able to scan an old photo that was 8 " tall and 16 " wide.! Photos are perfect! I really enjoy scanning, which I am loading all the old family photos to my hard drive and back up drive. I have crates full! The only problem is when printing much, the ink runs out to fast.

Bogus "airprint"
1 Star Review   By nicknametaken on HP - May 19, 2011

I purchased this printer specifically because it was advertised as "airprint capable". I believed the Apple ads that showed printing directly from the iPad, etc. After multiple trips to the Apple store, and many hours of working to configure this printer using information from HP, Apple and the web... it just does not print as advertised. The best reason I could determine fr the failure is that you need proper Apple Bonjour (printing language) processing for the printer to work. So... you need an Apple router, and an Apple network to connect this printer to. Even 3rd party cludges such as Print Central barely work, and loose formating otherwise. So, jusging it as a stand-alone, non-airprint PC printer, the c410a is mediocre at best. Resolution doesn't compare to a real photo printer, speed is slow, inks are expensive. Nothing to recommend it over other PC printers.

Not like they were
2 Star Review   By bwallnc on HP - May 18, 2011

When my old desktop had to be replaced, I lost the ability to fax from the computer. I also have been doing quite a bit of photography for family and friends. For years I had sworn by HP pHotosmart printers having a 8250 and 8750 for multi purpose uses. Due to the fax situation I decided to replace the 8250 with this printer. The second time I used it I got an error message of an ink system failure. My tech support call solution was to unplug the printer from the power strip and plug directly into the wall. That worked temporarily, but it continued to happen. It also fails to feed photo paper from the photo tray (holds up to 5 X 7 paper) on a regular basis. Prints are also darker than they were with the 8250. HP has already replaced one under warranty and I have experienced the identical problems with this one also, but not to the extent yet of the first one. This product doesn't even start to compare with older Photosmart printers. Good luck if you purchase it.

Nothing but problems
1 Star Review   By AudiR8Guy on HP - May 14, 2011

I purchased this printer with high hopes that it would perform as advertised. I have had nothing but problems. Every time I print a page, when it is done printing it also grabs 3 or 4 blank pieces of paper. When I copy the auto document feeder continues to run after the copy is made ultimately giving me a feed error. This happens every single time. Two sided copying doesn't work at all. I would NOT recommend this printer at all.

HP 410a
1 Star Review   By RofArcadia on HP - May 10, 2011

This is the worst HP printer, all in one, I have purchased. Would not buy again. Purchased 410a on Jan 9, 2011, set up was easy printed for a day or two then quit printing and copying. Ink system failure. Spent 3 to 4 hours on phone, finally tech says he will send a replacement. Replacement finally gets here (remanufactured- I was very upset about this), could not even set up the printer, error incompatible cartridges (used the ones that came with the remanufactured unit). Talked Staples into exchanging my remanufactured unit with a new HP 410a, on Feb 2. They made me purchased an extended warranty for this unit, so I did. This one set up fine and worked until May 5. Now it won't print or copy. I have an older photosmart and it works fine. Also have HP 2055 works great. Owned several other HP printers (including 2500L) all worked great, but this one is terrible, never really worked. I do not recommend the 410a.

Really good but not perfect
4 Star Review   By EugeneNine on HP - May 4, 2011

I have never had to replace an HP printer due to failure, each since deskjet 600c from 1995 was passed down to someone else and still in use, we have always upgraded for newer features. We had a phosmart c8100 since 2006 and wished we had bought the duplexer with it and really wanted an ADF. The duplexer for the c8100 was running at least $80 and this was on sale for $199 and gave us the ADF as well so we went ahead and upgraded. It prints great and fast but really goes through ink fast and puts down enough ink that we had to start buying 24lb paper as you can see the printing on the back side through 20lb, they have definatly went for print quality over economy. We print a lot of coloring and writing pages for our kids now (pre-school age) and the ADF helps there but I sometimes with there was an economy mode, save a littl ink for stuff that just going to be used around the house. I miss the bluetooth, sometimes it was nice to be able to print straight from our phones, now we have to e-mail and wait and wait, then sign in the web site to see if it received the e-mail or not or see if it lost communication with the printer. Even a USB bluetooth adapter would be preferrable like the little portables have. One of these days I'll buy one of their adapters and plug it in and see if it works even though its not listed as supported for this model. The ADF does need some work, I usually have to lift the paper up to help it feed and it doesn't like non standard sizes, 7x10 for example it doesn't want to take. I really wanted the one with the tablet but needed the ADF, why do you do that, if you would have added the ADF to the tablet based one I would have bought that, or at least make it an add on option, one high end printer with all the features of the rest would be nice, the c8100 was the same way, everything but the ADF. Though if the tablet one ever goes on sale for $199 like this one I may just buy it too, put one in the living room and one in the basement. Ours does shake a little side to side, we have it on a dedicated printer stand, one of those particle board things you buy and put together so it flexes a bit, one of these days when i get time I'll get some real wood and build a better stand for it.

Best Printer I Have Used
5 Star Review   By MMAZ on HP - May 3, 2011

I bought this printer because of the AirPrint feature with the Apple phone and IPad. I didn't expect such a well thought out printer. I have used many printers over the years but none are close to the features this has. Setup was a breeze and right out of the box my whole house was hooked up to the printer. This is a no brainer for me because of the ease of setup and the compatibility with all of my equipment which consists of a desktop, laptop, iPad, and (2) iPhones. Everything works just fine. I have used the scanner, fax, and printer and I have no complaints at all, like I said it was simple to setup and go. This is my first HP product and it certainly is pleasing. I would highly recommend this printer to anyone with any level of knowledge about computers or going wireless, it sets up by itself and all you basically have to do is plug it in and allow it to join your wireless network. I keep saying it but a month later and I'm still surprised by the ease of use.

Good product
3 Star Review   By Frustrated47 on HP - Apr 26, 2011

Seems to be a good stand-alone printer. Major problem is with paper jams. Instead of a door in the rear, you have to pull out a part rather than a drawer. Placing the part back into proper space in the back of the unit is difficult. I am still trying to find instructions in the manual for removing paper jams and replacing this part! It has to be pushed in correctly for the paper to feed properly!

Biggest piece of Garbage I've Bought in years!
1 Star Review   By Hynds on HP - Apr 10, 2011

I have owned HP printers over the last 20 years and after this purchase I will most likely look to another brand. This printer devours ink! I bought the printer in Oct/Nov 2010 and I have replaced all cartridges 3 times, the last two times with the XL size cartridge. Every time I replace a cartridge it tells me that it is not an original HP Cartridge, even though I purchased it from Staples and Sams in original HP packages. Filed three complaints with HP support and was told that the only way I could be sure it was original HP is if I buy the ink cartridges from their website, it didn't matter that the cartridges were in original HP packaging from Staples or Sams. Paid $200 for the printer, spent over $200 in ink in 5 - 6 months. Printer is of cheap construction and there are serious wireless connectivity issues. This week the feeder is feeding six to ten pages of paper at a timer and dragging ink on most of them, now wasting paper with the ink. I thought this was the answer to all my printing needs, but this is the biggest disappointment I've purchased in many years.

Better than expected
4 Star Review   By mcbrew on HP - Apr 8, 2011

I was worried by some reviews, but I decided to try it anyway. I wanted to upgrade to an AirPrint capable printer, since we have two iPhones and an iPad in the house. I feel that it was a slight downgrade since my previous printer was a six-color HP model. Photo printing is still very good, though. Setting up the wifi was very easy, even though I have a troublesome router. AirPrint works without a problem. Printing from my Mac and my PC is no problem. The one thing I wasn't sure about was whether I could scan wirelessly from this printer to my computers... and I can! It is very easy, and can all be done from the printer. Just put something on the scanner bed and press the scan button. Some options pop up in the display, such as "scan to XXX computer" or "scan to YYY computer" or "scan to memory card". Very cool. I haven't tried to scan to the PC (wife's computer), but it scans to my Mac mini without a problem. I can also initiate a scan from the computer. Even though my previous HP printer had this function, I must mention it again: I love the dedicated photo paper tray! Unlike a previous printer, this one accepts 4x6 or 5x7 paper! Printing, scanning, and copying all work well. I have not tried to fax, since I don't have a landline at home. However, we do have a similar printer at work, and it is mainly used as a fax machine. It is a bigger format printer from HP (I forget the model). I h ave not found any problem with this printer worth mentioning. If anything, I wish it was a six ink color model for better photo printing. Again, the photos do look really nice coming out of it... I just think my old six color did a slightly better job.

Two lemons in a row
1 Star Review   By Anonymous on HP - Apr 8, 2011

I really like HP. But this 4 in One printer seems to have problems. I am getting my third replacement sent to me. Jams without paper, can turn it off, locks up, etc. I have another older photosmart 7300 I use all the time works great, prints great and uses less ink. The only reason I got the other is I needed a new fax. HP support has been very good but a bad product waist a lot more time than it is worth.

very disappointing
1 Star Review   By sandye on HP - Apr 6, 2011

I picked this machine mainly because of its capability to print photos. The first test photo was nearly perfect and its been downhill ever since. Have you ever seen pink ocean and yellow rocks? And now we can't even do regular printing, only get faint shadows. HP says the problem is that I used non-HP ink but problems started while original factory-installed ink was still in place. Now I have bought new HP ink directly from them but shipping takes over a week and may still not solve the problem. Would I recommend this printer - absolutely not. It will definitely be the one and only HP product I purchase.

Poorest Printer Ever Owned
1 Star Review   By 54Vette on HP - Apr 5, 2011

Do not buy this printer if you plan on printing spreadsheets as it will print them crooked. Can't imagine a company like HP putting a product with this issue on the market. Additionally, I have an old Deskjet 882C and it prints better color than this C410A. Red as well as other colors on my spreadsheets looks faded. How disappointing that I purchased it and now I am stuck with it. Print cartridges are expensive and do not last as advertised. I sure wish it had a counter to determine how long the black cartridge lasted, I don't feel I got 800 pages out of the HP XL Black print cartridge!

Bad Product
1 Star Review   By TandemTeam on HP - Apr 3, 2011

I had to replace this printer three times, all under warranty. The first time was four days after I received it. It would not feed paper. The second time was after 2-months. It would not copy. The third time was just after receiving the product, which was to replace printer #2. The new arrival came with a top lid that would not close. I initialized it, and it would not recognize that paper was loaded. My experience is not characteristic of HP printers I have had. I am disappointed in the design, manufacture, and quality. HP did provide courteous and fast replacement service. HP is replacing the printer with a different model, an all-in-one that is not photo capable. If it is of the same low quality, I will buy from another firm.

Really dissapointed
2 Star Review   By sade on HP - Mar 7, 2011

The features on this printer are good and it works OK. I have to uninstall every once in a while to get to work again which is a pain... But the worst part is the ink!!!!!!! It does not last more than a month with light usage. I've this printer for maybe 3 months and have already purchased more ink than the printer cost so I can see that the yearly print costs will be way more than the cost. I have printed maybe 10 photos and the ink in the photo black cartridge is already gone!! I have my printer set up to only print in black and the color cartridges are empty after a month! How is that possible??? I was warned about HP printers and the ink not lasting long at all but I took the chance and now really regret it!!!!

lemon
1 Star Review   By rigorkrad on HP - Mar 3, 2011

1) the brochures and help files say the device supports remote retrieval of stored faxes and pc to fax. they do not. these are office jet features 2) the installer will not remove older printers, like the photosmart 3310 image task. be prepared to uninstall and use hp's all in one removal utility and use registry cleaners to remove all traces of photosmart 3310 software or the scanning will fail 3) the lack of a touch screen seriously kicks you out of the available hp printer apps. of the 78 hp printer apps, only 14 can run this printer. meaning you can only run 17% of the software that is out 4) scanning and printing continues to disappear from windows 7 64 bit machines even when the upgrade was installed. 5) scanning diagnostics disable broadcomm based bluetooth boards that are also installed. on two of my computers 7) the printer does not support "windows for workgroups" there is no way to specify what workgroup this printer belongs to. 8) some apps like the coupon printer cause the all in one printer to reboot itself 9) bad tech support. even though hp support had no plan or advice on how to install "pc to fax capability" they still wanted remote desktop access to my computer.

Great product!
4 Star Review   By Minjo on HP - Feb 25, 2011

This printer fits all our needs and works like a dream. We had the document feeder error discussed in previous reviews as well. We discovered a piece of blue shipping tape hidden in the feed area. Once the tape was removed, the error was cleared. The auto feeder will still pass paper through even with the tape in there. Please look for this before returning your product because this machine is great! The only issue for us is that the printer did not come with the USB cable we needed, as we are not wireless yet. I guess that this is standard practice, since the machine is wireless capable.

Cartridge eater
3 Star Review   By Krug on HP - Feb 14, 2011

I purchased this printer the end of December 2010, and since then, I purchased one set of color cartridges and one cartridge of black. We are supposed to get 300 sheets of paper out of color, and unknown if just in black. I haven't printed over 20 color pages on the new cartridges, and what should be blue, is coming out in pink. The supply levels on the cartridges are almost gone as far as the program shows....I owned a Dell all in one, and was feeling used on cost of ink....this beats them by a mile in using the consumer for supplies.

Very Nice Printer
5 Star Review   By Bornzo on HP - Feb 9, 2011

I normally don't write reviews but I had to share my thoughts on this printer. The initial setup was very easy and non eventful. The only problem I encountered was getting my laptop and the printer to work without a printer cord. I was having issues with my printer recognizing my wireless router/modem. I tried everything including un-installing/re-installing the software for the printer. My fault was not calling HP support for help. I eventually found an upgrade to the diagnostics tools for the printer and after the upgrade, I have not had anymore problems with the printer working wireless.

I love this printer
5 Star Review   By carolinagirl on HP - Feb 9, 2011

I just purchased my HP Photosmart printer. The setup was easy. The feature that attracted me to this printer was the wireless printing. I was concerned with some the reviews that said how loud the printer was, but it's no worst than any other printer. Another plus to this printer is the cost of the printer cartridges. Each color cartridge is separate and the cost is minimal compared to my last printer. The photo printer is a great quality and the fax, copier and web features are all wonderful. I would highly recommend this printer and already have to my family and friends.
