Worst Deal!

worst product ever! The main issue is the printhead which made me crazy! If something gets wrong with its printhead, YOU HAVE TO send the printer back for a new printer! It's very hard to fix this issue!

Great printer but drinks ink like a fish
4 Star Review   By maizyblue on HP - Dec 28, 2010

I purchased this printer because of the value for the price. I also liked the fact the ink cartridges were much less expensive than those of my last printer. Now I know why. The ink runs out as if there were a hole in the bottom of the cartridge letting it drain away on the floor because they are so small. I love the printer but really question my choice because of the short cartridge life. Also, I still can't get it to link wirelessly with my laptop which was another big reason I purchased this particular model. I would recommend this printer as long as the purchaser is aware of its shortcomings.

Ink guzzler
1 Star Review   By sbustudent on HP - Nov 1, 2010

I purchased this printer a few months ago to replace my old HP printer (which I had for yrs). I was excited about the printer and its quality, until I realized that I would have to replace the ink at a ridiculous rate. Im a student and need to print many documents and the money I spend on ink is killing me. On top of that, the printer is now not printing anything with blue in it. After MANY MANY MANY cartridge cleanings, printerhead cleanings, alignments, etc, it still refuses to work correctly..... SOOOOO frustrated, especially since I just bought 100 in ink for this printer and really really dont want to buy the same terrible printer in order to use the ink.

Don't purchase to print photo's
3 Star Review   By Shab on HP - Oct 30, 2010

Purchased for occasional printing of photos. Faces come out red. Printed same picture at Walgreens and skin tones were accurate. Speed of printer is OK and black text is ok. One would expect a "photosmart" printer to accurately print photo's. Pictures were printed on HP photo paper at best quality. HP should privide help (online or otherwise) for printing photos. If someone from HP reads this please contact me. If you can help with printing photos I will gladly retract my review. Have not tried the scanner.

Lives up to HP standards
4 Star Review   By HLHL on HP - Oct 23, 2010

I've had my Photosmart Plus for nearly a year. It prints beautifly and quickly. But I've been frustrated because the cord linking it to my laptop is so short--38 inches--that it limits the placement of components on my desk. So I've been reading the reviews from other users, and they've been talking about the WIRELESSNESS of this printer. What does that mean? Wireless? Just now I disconnected the cable to see if it prints that way. It doesn't. Apparently there is much I don't know. What did I miss? Does anybody know where I can I get a connection (cable) that is sixty plus inches long? Perplexed.

Just Average
3 Star Review   By rfb37 on HP - Oct 10, 2010

I bought this HP Photosmart Plus 209a AIO printer (HP 564 Ink) to replace a HP Photosmart C 5180 AIO. Mostly trouble free installation and performance using with Windows 7 64 bit PC. Stops responding while scanning at times. Freezes up and necessitates unplugging from power source and computer restart. Below average photo printing and uses too much ink. My old HP Photosmart C 5180 and 8250 (HP 02 Ink) both do a much better job printing photos and use less ink than this model. Used for printing text documents only. I do not use the wireless feature at all. I have had several HP printers, one Canon printer and two Epson printers. This one and the Epson printers are least satisfactory of all.

You get what you pay for!
3 Star Review   By Anonymous on HP - Oct 6, 2010

This is my second HP printer, bought it because it was wireless. Was looking for a good printer to print photos. While the print quality is good, it uses ink very quickly. Price for the printer was excellent but you will make up for that in the ink you have to buy. Not the best choice if you print a lot of photos. And the black versus photo black cartridges is not explained very well. You would think that if you need 564 color print cartridges, that a 564 black cartridge would work. But buy the wrong one, try to install and it will not fit. Then you cannot return it. I wasted money for nothing and then had to go back and get the regular black (not photo black). Now, the real problems: Constantly have to turn it off and turn it back on and reboot computer so that it finds the printer. Cannot get the scanner to find the computer, nor the computer to find the scanner. Scanner will only recognize a USB Jump drive. So in order to scan anything to the computer, I have to scan it to the USB jump drive and take the drive to the computer to download the scans. Can't print directly from my camera card either, have to download from the camera card to the computer and then print from the computer. I have tried downloading updated drivers, which did not solve my problems. I have to admit I have not conacted HP about my issues yet. I have found work arounds for all the issues, but should you really have to? Don't you buy an all in one so that you can use all of it's features. I really think I am going to give this one away and get something that does not use up so much ink when printing photos.

Since Im a college student, I constantly need to be printing papers and other things and this a great printer. It surpasses the two my parents had back home. And the price I got it for at the school store was amazing: $50! I am so glad I got this printer because it will make my life so much easier so I dont have to go asking around to use someones printer.

Don't Buy This Printer for Wireless Printing
1 Star Review   By BinNJ on HP - Sep 19, 2010

Overall waste of money. This printer was very time consuming to install. After following the instructions step by step to set up wireless printing with the included CD was able to print the test page, but could not do any printing afterwards. Had to then install the USB wired setup to print. Tried to return the printer, but HP support insisted on trying to trouble shoot. Again got the printer to print a test page, but cannot get through one regular print job without the printer hanging up and having to restart job several times. Very disappointed in HP.

Poor quality pics
2 Star Review   By Rocks52 on HP - Sep 18, 2010

I bought this printer to replace my first HP photo printer when it died. I read the reviews which seemed pretty good (didn't read far enough). This printer does NOT print good quality pictures. The colors are dull and not the true colors of the subject photoed. It guzzles ink like crazy. No way does a cartridge last for even half the pages HP says you can get from a cartridge. I also get a message that the photo paper is out when it is not. Another time waster wehen you have to remove the tray and reinsert it to get it to print. Instead of enjoying my hobby of printing pictures, I now dread printing them. Can't afford another printer right now and buying the ink cartridges for this one keeps me from printing the pics I want. An overall disappointing purchase.. I can say that the installation was easy. The ONLY good thing about this printer.

2 Star Review   By NotVeryHappy on HP - Sep 5, 2010

I had an old HP 4180, and it made this printer look sick. If my 4180 was wireless, I would never have traded it in. The print quality is not good, in my opinion. Scanning quality is horrible, and nothing but problems. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND.

Problem with print head continues
1 Star Review   By TJburks on HP - Sep 2, 2010

About a month after I bought this printer I encountered an Ink System Failure to wit after cleaning the printer head cartridge and replacing the ink cartridges (the old ones still had lots of ink in them), I got the printer to work again. Last night the same think happened after printing 4 pages, (strictly documents) and have been unable to resolve the failure since. This is probably my tenth or twelveth HP printer and it is by far the worse when it comes to performance. The truly sad part about it is that it turns a year old this month. Citizens, don't buy this printer.

wireless printer
5 Star Review   By trackersea on HP - Aug 8, 2010

I have had this printer now for 1 mo, its great to have it and working well. The only one thing that I wish it had compaired to my previous HP printer was the slot for my size camera card it doesn't have the size i need were the other one did, but still can upload the pictures from the camera. The other thing I ordered the extra ink, its good that i did cause the ink that came with the machie is low grade to say that it doesn't print very many pictures before its gone. I would recommend this printer to anyone who is scanning and printing pictures for a family album the pictures come out great and the soft ware that comes with this is just as good as photoshop for croping and allignment....I made a good choice for the product and the money.

It was easy to install. Pictures and text are really very good. I like the fact that this printer uses individual color ink cartridges.

Good Printer
4 Star Review   By Tricia4210 on HP - Aug 4, 2010

Thus far, this printer has worked very well. Have not yet tried ALL the features. Replaced two HP printers that I had for 10 years with this one. I hope it lives up to its predecessors. One thing I was incredibly disappointed in was the sample HP Advanced Photo Paper that came with this printer. I am SURE it costs a lot. However, when I tried it out with two photos of people that I had not touched up with any program, the photo was so vivid that it eliminated many facial details. I printed these photos both on the sample photo paper and then on plain paper. The plain paper had a much better image that included all the facial features clearly; the photo paper washed it all out with it's vivid color image. I don't recommend this paper. Am looking forward to using all the features of this printer. I am very happy with the results so far.

Scanning is nice, but limited flexibility
4 Star Review   By Eric9 on HP - Jul 24, 2010

I like many of the features of this printer, but potential customers should know that you cannot scan multiple pages to a file without being at the computer. So, if you are set up wirelessly and have the printer/scanner in another room, you must walk back and forth or it becomes a two person job.

installation headache
4 Star Review   By homeschooler101 on HP - Jul 20, 2010

My C5180 died (loved it) so decided to get another HP and choose the B209 as it was similiar. I installed it successfully, time consuming but easy with the installation CD however my printer would not print from my computer (another HP product). A tech took remote access to my computer and after 3 plus hours she uninstalled the B209 and the C5180 which she said was the problem (why couldn't the installation CD for the B209 unintall all the old printer installations automatically or just update those files so that the B209 could function in its place)Anyway it works now. If I hate it and it doesn't perform-I will update this review. Seems great now.

Great Printer
5 Star Review   By cscott on HP - Jul 14, 2010

This printer was easy to install as I have two laptops. ( one personal and one for business). I scanned tons of old pictures and they look better than ever. Wireless is the way to go. I can be doing work on the first floor and send a print job from my laptop and there it is sitting and waiting for me when I go to my office on the second floor. I really do not feel the unit is overly noisy as I have read in other reviews. I have friends marching up to my office to see it so they can purchase one too. This printer has exeeded my expectations.

Horrible
2 Star Review   By transoff on HP - Jul 13, 2010

I am so disappointed with this printer. Nothing but problems since purchase (1/15/2010). Keep getting ink system failure error. Now, they say the problem is the ink head...which was cleaned. They wanted to send me a replacement but wouldn't receive it til 5-7 days later. This printer drinks so much ink, its unreal and I only print papers for school. I also do not agree with the amount of pages printed per ink cartridge. I would not buy again!! I am also not happy with HP's customer service. Some of their customer service agents do not understand my questions.

Horrible lemon!!!!
1 Star Review   By JazieMo on HP - Jul 8, 2010

In short I received this printer about 9 days ago. The wireless installation was pretty easy much better than a previous HP printer which I returned. The reviews were very helpful. The photo print quality is HORRIBLE I spent hours on end with Tech Support trouble shooting, I used 3 different types of photo paper and the prints were still grainy and distorted. The previous reviews about "great" print quality didn’t prove true for me. I would say STAY away from this product HP gets thumbs down on this one! Its going BACK!!! And the ink can actually end up being pricier as its $26.99 for a color combo pack and $11.99 for black which is sold separately!! Dont waist your time!!!

wireless doesn't work with norton
1 Star Review   By RBCT on HP - Jun 14, 2010

No warning on this "wireless" printer that it isn't compatible with Norton 360 firewall software. Printer installs but wireless networking fails as firewall blocks it. HP tech support knows about the problem but can't fix it. Spent 7 hours with 3 reps to no avail. If I wanted the non-wireless version I could have bought it...and cheaper. Calling this printer "wireless" without warnings of compatability issues is a sham (if not worse). Buyer beware...

Needs a stop control
2 Star Review   By hewpalew on HP - Jun 1, 2010

Print quality is excellent, however, I switched because this one uses the 564 cartridges which are supposed to last longer. I do not think so. While it warns you when each ink is low but does not stop when empty. This wastes paper when they are queued up. My wife was happier with the printers that used the 02 cartridges. This is my fourth HP printer.

So sorry I wasted my $$
3 Star Review   By itssmee on HP - May 27, 2010

My son picked out this printer for me. i knew my old Canon printer was going so my son spoke to numerous reps at the store he works at and was told the HP is a better printer than Canon. NOT TRUE. My son came home with this HP raving about how everyone has been telling him HP quality has surpassed Canon as the best printer. After printing numerour pictures from my new printer and putting the new prints side by side with the same pictures printed months ago on the Canon I asked people to pick the better, clearer picture. Every single person picked the Canon photo every single time. I use my printer mainly for pictures so I am extremely disappointed in this printeer. I have looked at printers everywhere for months and was assured the HP quality surpassed Canon at each store I went to. But so far I can't find any one who likes the Hp pictures in a side by side comparison. Ink usage is was out of sight too. I printed about 25 pictures and one of the ink cartridges is half gone. IN ONE DAY!! Stay away from this printer

Refills
4 Star Review   By RalphJ on HP - May 11, 2010

I like this printer much better than the Epson i had previously. I do find that the ink runs out much quicker though. So even though the price of the printer was very reasonable for all of the qualities, the ink replacement is making it more costly than i had expected.

No service
1 Star Review   By Anonymous on HP - May 7, 2010

I have owned this H P printer for three months, and a new H P laptop with windows 7. The computer refuses to load the printer's drivers. H P promised me a month ago after trying a bunch of things new C D with updated drivers. Have yet to see that, and whether they will work is beyond me. My new H P laptop has been in to be serviced five or six times and once to H P rebuild in Tenn.or somewhere. I asked them to buy it back it has been a problem after owning six weeks. H P said it was to old that they wouldn't buy it back. So I say if you want to see a lot of Blue Screens, go with a H P.

Herky Jerky and does not work.
1 Star Review   By RickinKansas on HP - Apr 29, 2010

Bought this printer January 24. The black plastic top scratches easy and looks bad. HP should of used a matte black finish. Well on to the operation...... It is a noisy printer with regard to the cartridge checking. Seems like the cartridges recycle back and forth too much. After the initial starter cartridges were exhausted I installed NEW hp ones and immediatately the black would not print, after several print head cleanings as advised by HP the black still does not work and the color levels read 1/2 full. Looks like I wasted $54 dollars in ink on print head cleanings. HP is sending me a new print head but I doubt they replace my exhausted NEW cartridges.

Good.
4 Star Review   By edmaho on HP - Mar 28, 2010

I assume this is the 209a device. It prints text and photos fast and clearly. It does seem to require a lot of ink which is fairly expensive compared to my previous HP printer/scanner/copier. It worked pretty well and economically but there are two reasons I wanted a change. One is the envelope printing got off a little. Another is that I'm doing more photo work. I had considerable difficulty loading the program but I was having registry problems at the time. These may have improved but I'm reluctant to delete the program and reload it. I tried loading it into my wife's laptop and it worked fine, including the wireless for a while. But wireless quit when asked to register this printer. Wireless has never worked on my laptop and I have had some tech help but gave up perhaps due to my poor technical skills.

INK HOG!!!!!
2 Star Review   By GoldDogs on HP - Mar 26, 2010

I can't believe how much INK this thing uses! Normal household & very light small/home business printing use, no photos(!), and I have to replace all the ink cartridges about once every 3-4 weeks! That's getting EXPENSIVE! This $100 printer is going to cost $300 to $500 per year in ink! More if I do a lot of printing or start printing photos. Bought this printer to replace an older Photosmart printer which I loved, and wanted a wireless printer. Am now regretting the decision ... not sure if I can afford to buy or justify buying another printer, but can't afford to keep buying ink cartridges at this rate!!! Set up on this one was not easy or fast. I hate all the extra software it tries to load on your computer. You can't just plug it in and start printing. I dislike that to swtich between wireless connection and cable connection, you pretty much have to go through the whole installation process all over again. You can't just plug a cable in when the wireless isn't working .. gotta get the installation disk and go through the whole 15-20 minute install process all over again. And ditto to go back to wireless. :-( Print quality is nice, print speed is OK -- neither are exceptional. Love the wireless, when it works. Decent printer, but the high ink usage is outrageous and puts this printer OUT of the range of practical for most household or business printing use. If you don't need photo-quality all the time, keep looking - there's got to be options out there that won't cost you a fortune in ink!

so disapointed
1 Star Review   By picturehappy on HP - Mar 15, 2010

From reading the other reviews I would think this was a great printer. But having had many HP printers in the past, this is the WORST. As a scrapbooker, I want EXCELLENT quality photos. I get HORRIBLE pix. The colors are way off. The images are not even close to quality. The printer screaches (very loud) and the software does not allow me to print the way I want ie, wasting paper because of the layout. The only think I like about this printer is the touch screen, but my computer must be on and photoshop running to even make it work properly. Personally, I want my money back.

1 Star Review   By homeofficeuser on HP - Mar 14, 2010

If I could have given this zero stars, I would have After having this product for 2 weeks and trying many updates, setting changes, reinstalls, etc. I will be returning it right away. The printer is unreliable, SLOW, gives faulty error messages, is loud, etc. I have been a loyal HP printer customer, and have had several HP wireless printers before this and have always been happy. This is honestly the worst printer I have ever owned.

Just got it; have one issue only. Help for Maudie
3 Star Review   By MysKate on HP - Mar 12, 2010

We have only had this printer a few weeks. Sometimes when you try to print it says printer not available, for no apparent reason. Turning it off and on and rebooting the computer seems to work -- so far. But it's a pain to have to do so. Otherwise, it seems to work quite well, though it does use quite a bit of ink. Love the wireless. Hey, Maudie45, here's how to change your printer defaults. Order of printing is really buried. Do this: Control panel, Printers & Faxes, Right click on that printer, Properties, Advanced, Printing Defaults, Advanced, Layout Options, Back to Front, OK. That should take care of it.

Crashed my PC and doesn't work on wireless network
1 Star Review   By SadFaceDay on HP - Mar 8, 2010

After installing this printer using the CD provided, it crashed my computer (fatal error message) and I had to reboot in safe mode to restore it. Using a different computer, I was able to install it but it does not function properly (will not scan to anything other than a flash drive). After several hours of "uninstalling" it using the directions provided by HP Support, I was finally able to remove it. It is now boxed up and ready to be returned to HP. I will not buy another HP printer for a very long time.

Another Great Photo Printer From HP
5 Star Review   By Pitt on HP - Mar 2, 2010

I needed to purchase a new photo printer because I finally wore my old one out (also an HP). I never purchase the top of the line products due to high pricing. The HP Photosmart Plus fits the bill perfectly!! It's an excellent, mid-range priced photo printer, scanner, and copier. From the HP web site, it was on sale at $50 off with free shipping. What a great deal!! The printer itself installed easily and runs perfectly. I really appreciate the wireless capability which allows me to have one less cable running into the back of my tower and allows any-where-in-my-house wireless network printing capability with my laptop computer. The photo printing is fast and sharp and of highest quality for the price. I provide photo restorations of old and damaged photos for my customers. Once I have scanned, edited and restored photos, the HP Photosmart provides excellent, lab quality prints of my work. Thanks HP for continually improving the speed and quality of your HP Photosmart printers! I highly recommend this printer to anyone looking for a mid-range priced photo printer.

Good Printer; Trouble Plagued Setup
1 Star Review   By Installer on HP - Feb 25, 2010

I've been a fan of HP for years but two separate installations of this printer were horribly problematic. In the first case on a Dell with a clean install of Win XP the HP refused to communicate via any USB port including a USB expansion card installed as a last-ditch effort. Only solution was to use another PC via USB for setup. In the second case the wireless functionality was impossible to configure with an HP Pavillion running Win 7. HP support chat was unable to solve either issue. If you don't mind potential setup headaches, and the slow and noisy start up, this printer can deliver top-notch quality photos and documents.

Love this Printer!!!
5 Star Review   By Garhawk on HP - Feb 25, 2010

I recently purchased this printer because I wanted to go wireless and I wanted a HP product since I have a HP laptop. It was a breeze to hook-up (took about 10 minutes). You just follow the instructions on the DVD. The color is exceptional! It does vibrant quite a bit at start up, but I don't hear it since my laptop is in another room. I love the touch screen capability. Definitely a good buy for the money.

Better than my epson, but....
4 Star Review   By DaveTN on HP - Feb 25, 2010

I purchased this printer to replace my Epson R300 that had worn out. I've never been a fan of "all-in-ones" but this printer changed my mind. It was inexpensive but full of features and I figured I couldn't go wrong with it. For the most part, I was right. First, Ink, particularly when purchased directly from HP is significantly less expensive than I was paying for for my Epson. Kudos to HP on that. Coupled with the regular supply of "coupon codes" and my student discount, even retail stores like office max and staples can't come close. Shipping is quick and free too. I would have to say the only problem that I had is it not communicating properly with my HP Touchsmart IQ816 - which is Ironic becuase the printer is in the "Touchsmart" family line. It works well with my HP TabletPC and my HP laptop as well as the other non-hp products in my home, but I can only get it to connect to my touchsmart via the USB cable. Not such a problem as it sits right next to it on my desk. From a printer standpoint, print quality and speed are outstanding. I use my printer a lot for school and it holds up quite well...much better than my Epson did. Scanning is very good and coupled with PaperPort, is quite a useful machine. Hoever, scanning textbooks is a bit of a chore as I'm afraid I'll break the glass by holding them down too hard to get them flat enough to scan. (I like reading my textbooks in PDF format on my TabletPC and Laptop) Overall though its a great printer and I am really happy with it. As with my laptop, I chose the free shipping and it arrived in just a couple days. Very impressive.

Don't waste your money!!
1 Star Review   By pinkgirl on HP - Feb 15, 2010

This is definately NOT what I am used to with HP!!! I have a photosmart all in one that I bought over 2 years ago and the photo quailty is AMAZING!!! Color is right on!! NOT THIS ONE!!! Allot of red in the color! My children look like strawberry blondes and they are dark blonde to light brown in hair color. The walls in my living room are a beautiful light blue and they look grey in the photos. I just can't stand it compared to my old one! I guess if this was your first Photosmart printer you might really like the quality....my friends and the people at the store had to be shown multiple photos in order to see the difference. But, for me, I print allot of photos and am used to superior quality....this is not anything but substandard quality!! I use this for printing paper things ONLY! I use my old Photosmart for my photos. GOES THROUGH A TON OF INK! I have printed less than 100 pages of worksheets and it is low on ink already! I hope this is just a bad series for Photosmart and HP.....I love there products and won't give up on them easily!!!! BE BLESSED!

Best All In One you can Buy
5 Star Review   By DougG on HP - Feb 11, 2010

Purchased this new all-in-one printer to replace an older HP Deskjet photo printer and standalone scanner. This printer installed on our home network by itself after loading the CD. Our network included two Vista Laptops and one XP desktop. We could not believe how easy this printer was to setup and start using. It took longer to get the printer out of the box and remove all the packing material than it took to install on our network. Printing and Scanning are great. Have not done any photo's yet but I suspect we will not be disappointed here either. Best part, ink cartridges are cheaper than our old printers.

Get a different printer
1 Star Review   By Elley on HP - Feb 8, 2010

The installation of his product wasn't difficult but I don't think one will be up and running in 5 minutes. I'd say give it at least 20 minutes. I don't care for this product because the colors in pictures seem to come out a bit dull and the scanning is terrible. I tried scanning several different pictures and they all came out either grainy or with lines. No matter how I tried to manipulate the settings I still kept getting the same result. I suppose if you're just scanning black and white documents you'll be fine, but color documents/pictures is what this printer has trouble with.

Great Quality For The Money
5 Star Review   By Pattim on HP - Feb 5, 2010

I am totally electronics challenged and set up this printer without any problem. You really can't miss w/the enclosed step-by-step instruction DVD. For the small amount of printing I've done so far, it performs very well as well as very quickly (if you can get past the noise and vibration it produces). Luckily, the printer is in another room and I can't hear it most of the time, but the quality of the copies and photos makes it a non-issue. Got it on sale for under $100 so another reason to love it more. The only odd thing is that the printer doesn't show in "Printers & Faxes" on my computer's Control Panel even though I added it during the set up process. As long as its working, I don't care. Buy it -- you'll love it.

Great Prints, Smart Price
5 Star Review   By Rocco77 on HP - Feb 5, 2010

This is the perfect printer for school or your home office. It fit my budget and it does everything! The prints look like they just came from the lab and installation was a snap. It works seamlessly with my MacBook Pro and it looks pretty slick too. The only con I've found is the slow scan speed. Looking for a solid AIO and don't want to break the bank? This is your printer!

Pretty Good Printer

The printer offers all of today's important features such as, wireless, scanning, and copying. I found the setup easy and have it as part of my home wireless network. I bought this machine in good faith mainly for its wireless function. I have a mac book and a tablet Pc. Installing on the mac was terrible and the helpline was useless. As it happened the printer started to respond to the Mac-not by my input but I am stilI unable to make it work with the Pc. It is obviously my incompetence but this has been compounded by the lousy installation wizard. Why does the screen tell me the printer is off line when I know full well that it is not????

What happened to plug and play?
2 Star Review   By aviary33 on HP - Jan 24, 2010

I have this printer 4 days now and still can't get it to work properly. HP support tried for over an hour and couldn't figure it out. They will call back in 3 hours to try again. I specifically asked the HP salesperson to confirm that this printer is Windows 7 compatible and he yes'd me. I even have an HP desktop and thought it would have bin as easy as plug and play. I should have ready the reviews. Waste of time and money! The only reason I gave it 2 stars is because I can use the copy feature and copies very nicely. Also, note that there is no document feeder on this. so scanning or copying more than one page is an agonizing effort.

All in One C7250
1 Star Review   By Anonymous on HP - Jan 24, 2010

Bought less than 2 years ago. Complicated to run. Printer failed and needs repair that will cost more than printer cost. Ink costs is very expensive and something you must consider before you buy.

Photosmart Plus All-in-one printer
5 Star Review   By kman57 on HP - Jan 18, 2010

I would like to thank HP for making software and this product that works very well with my Linux machine as well as my Windows machine. Everything pretty much was easy to set up and have working in no time. I am very pleased so far with everything about the printer, but cant comment yet on ink usage.

Optical Character Recognition HP B209a
4 Star Review   By Blue on HP - Jan 13, 2010

I received this product for a Christmas gift to attach to my iMac. The scanner help file indicates it is possible to save a scanned document into word processor editable file. I found however it was only possible to save a scanned document as a graphics or a PDF file. I contacted HP Support via e-mail for assistance in saving a document in editable form. After several e-mail exchanges it was suggested I use telephone support since I was not able to reach a solution by e-mail. The HP telephone support person I talked with discovered as we talked that the OCR capability had been removed from the software installer package without changing the accompanying help files. If I wished to have OCR capability, I would have to purchase third-party software to do outboard OCR operations. So, don't buy this product if you are expecting embedded OCR capabilities.

Jams ALL the time
1 Star Review   By kavitch on HP - Jan 9, 2010

I recently bought this printer to replace an older HP printer - I've had it less than a month - rarely use it since it's for my home office. Almost every time I use it, the printer cartridge or the paper jams. It's less than a month old and I'm going to have to take it in for service as now the cartridge will not move. I would not recommend this printer to anyone.

Need More Testing
3 Star Review   By ATC1 on HP - Jan 2, 2010

I purchased this printer and found it to be fast to setup and easy. After a couple of days, my computer went blue screen with memory overflow dump error messages. I uninstalled and computer is fine. I realize there is a driver problem somewhere but can't seem to get anyone at HP for help. That's why a 3. I believe some more application testing may be needed.

Mac WiFi failed to work
3 Star Review   By MSbulldog on HP - Dec 20, 2009

HP builds good printers that print well. I bought this printer for its network ability. If you use a Mac only do not buy this product unless you can borrow a PC to set it up on a network. If you have a pc it installs very easily. Good printer bad Mac install.

Convenient printer
4 Star Review   By Serigne on HP - Dec 18, 2009

Delivered a day after placing the order and free shipping! Printer up and running 30 min following unpacking. Ignore rattling and noise when printer setting up itself. Connected an HP pavilion elite m9400t - Vista - duo core-6MB Ram, and a HP laptop DV4-1280-duo core seamlessly. Printed hi quality pictures. Listen, this is a great experience for the price. No bluetooth though, unlike the photosmart premium.

Fails half of the time when printing photos
1 Star Review   By ichunddu on HP - Dec 13, 2009

This printer has issues with properly feeding the photo paper into the printer. As a result, you get error messages that the printer is out of paper (which it is not, it just for whatever reason refuses to feed the paper into the printer). So the benefit and convenience of having the printer in another room and using the wireless connection is diminished by the fact that you are constantly running to the printer to check what's going on with the photo paper. Additionally: When this printer actually does work, it guzzles ink like a hummer guzzles gas... Not very happy with this model as you might be able to tell...

Excellent setup, great photo quality
5 Star Review   By JeffT on HP - Nov 29, 2009

I bought this printer when I added a second computer in our home, with the wireless connection being the major feature I needed. I'm very happy with the easy wireless setup, I didn't have to dig out my record of our WEP key. It just pulled it from the computer. It took only a few minutes to get it going. The only odd thing during the installation is that the printer spends several minutes shuttling the carriage back and forth for no apparent reason. That doesn't happen at every power-up once the installation was complete, luckily. I'm also happy with the ink cartridge situation. My last printer is an office jet all in one that uses a single cartridge for all the color inks. This model has one cart for each and it looks to be more economical in the long run. Photo quality looks amazing for a printer at this price and I like having a dedicated tray for the photo paper. My only request from HP is to give a detailed description of the differences between the regular black and the photo black inks. On one they specify capacity in B&W office-use pages and the other they specify in terms of 4x6" prints. I'm going to try the photo black for all purposes and see how it goes. It would be nice to avoid constantly swapping black cartridges in and out if I can.

Trouble
2 Star Review   By KthleenR324 on HP - Oct 14, 2009

This printer has been freezing non stop. and the configuration of the wireless connection on my laptop is simply impossible. I don't know if it is the printer itself or maybe just mine. But I will be contacting HP tomorrow about this inconvenience. I got the printer because it had great reviews and had everything I wanted. But I didn't think it would be this much of a hassle

Very Good Printer - Ink usage not so good
4 Star Review   By pappydsp on HP - Oct 13, 2009

This printer installed very easily on my network. I have a router that is hardwired into one comptuer and connected wirelessly to two other comptuers. The install took only a few minutes. I had no problem connecting to my network. Quality of photo printing is outstanding and the speed is much improved over the C4180 that I replaced with it. The touch screen on this printer is easy to use and very useful. The software included is much better that the C4180's, too. The only down side to this printer is that it loves ink. I've had it less than a month and the black cartridge is almost empty. The color cartridges are showing half empty as well. I use the printer occassionally and do not print a lot of photos. There is an option of buying the XL ink cartridges which should double or triple the cartridge life but doubles or triples the price of the cartridge, too.

HP Photosmart Plus
5 Star Review   By Den on HP - Sep 30, 2009

I have a Mac with Snow Leopard and all I did was plug it in and off I go! Snow Leopard reads it all without adding software from HP. Man.....great little printer and I have a big one for professional printing. I can compare and I honestly think the picture quality of this litter bugger is great. A fun little printer that I needed for little projects is ending up being a main project printer.

Good not great.
4 Star Review   By BikerGeek on HP - Sep 22, 2009

This printer is very quiet and fast. The color photos are fantastic! The price is fair. My only dink would be that the wireless set up is more of a hassle than my previous wireless printer.

Review covers installation only
4 Star Review   By 3ddeen on HP - Sep 19, 2009

I just bought and installed the Photosmart Plus. Initial install was with a Windows 7 computer and I only installed what I had to have. The install went very well, wireless configuration was easy, unboxing was easy, video tutorials were well done and helpful. But don't think you are going to install this thing is 5 minutes, plan to spend at least 30 - 45minutes. After getting wireless configured(WPA, MAC address filter, etc.) I set up 4 other computers, 3 were Vista Basic, and 1 was XP Pro. I just downloaded the basic drivers and the only problem I had was with 1 Vista Basic computer. I had mapped some networked drives and had used up X, Y, and Z drives. HP only looks for X, Y, and Z drives so the install pops up a Fatal Error and won't install. I had to disconnect the X drive to get it to install, although I could have disconnected Y or Z as well. I can't believe HP only looks for these drives to map a network printer when there were over a dozen more available drives. Overall a decent install experience.

Nice All in one
5 Star Review   By dweyand on HP - Sep 17, 2009

Set up - 4 stars Print quality - 5 stars Print speed - 4 stars Copy and scan - 5 stars Ease of use - 5 stars Set up seemed a little over complicated, the easy set up from my router would not work so I had to install via the included usb cable. However I was able to use the included help feature to go back and set up the printer through my wireless network. Using the included HP Advanced 4 x 6 I was able to print lab photo quality prints from my pictures. Print speed is so so but more than adequate for my needs. Only real complaint is the noise. All printers make noise when printing, but this one is the loudest I've ever owned. Not a big deal as I'm not using it in a church but worth mentioning. Overall I am very please with my purchase

Wireless set-up still too complicated
4 Star Review   By jtrav on HP - Sep 17, 2009

Wireless printing set-up failed using a Mac where the computer connects directly to the printer without a network. I still haven't gotten that working. I like HP printers, but set-up is most un-Mac-like.

SUPER PRINTER FOR HOME USE
5 Star Review   By Seabee128 on HP - Sep 11, 2009

After 18 months my main printer ceased to print in color. The repair cost was more than the original price. What to do? Consider a different brand. Since all my computers are HP why not look there. After an extensive review of 7 different printers I chose the HP Photosmart Plus. Also known as the CD035A or the B209a. The set up was a snap with the demo disk walking you thru it. Even the wireless was quick and easy. This printer is fast, and the print quality is incredible. My first printing was a 4x6 photo with the supplied paper and one of my pictures. The photo print was breath-taking. The colors were sharp and I could not believe the print quality. The printer itself is sleek with only one push button. The TouchSmart screen works without a hitch. A very professional looking machine. Good buy for the money. I highly recommend this product. This is our second Photosmart printer. I might add that during my research I found that this printer is by far the least expensive to operate, page per page. Check it out.

awesome printer
5 Star Review   By amber419 on HP - Sep 2, 2009

I absolutely love this printer! It is very fast, and the printing quality is incredible. The appearance is sleek and professional. Good buy for the money. I was in the market for a new pc and printer, as my old system of 5 yrs had reached dinasaur status. This printer works seamless with my new hp pc which I also adore....(an hp 8 GB, quad processor, 1 T...wooh oo!) I also want to add that this printer is completely wireless (besides power cord) which is a new convenience for me that I already cannot live without. Setup was a breeze. I highly recommend this product.
