HP Photosmart C4280
3 Star Review  laptopmag.com - Jul 18, 2007

The HP Photosmart C4280 is not the prettiest or fastest all-in-one in this roundup, nor does it print the best photos. It's not the cheapest either, and yet it's the only one without PictBridge and it doesn't offer optional Bluetooth. But it is the sleekest and most attractive of the bunch. And it handles basic printing and scanning just fine, which, at $99, could be just what the everyday business user wants.

HP Photosmart C4280
2 Star Review  productwiki.com - Apr 7, 2010

The Photosmart C4280 is a general purpose, budget all-in-one colour inkjet printer, scanner, copier from HP. Primarily designed for light home/home office use due to its rather small ink cartridges, the C4280 allows you to print a large variety of paper sizes from a computer or straight from your cameras memory card. Using a memory card, a PC is not required as you can preview and select your images on the C4280s 1.5" colour display. The only discernible difference between the C4280 and the C4480 is the visual appearance of the printer. Features Supported paper: Letter, legal, executive, cards, borderless panorama, 4 x 6 in (1000 sheets) Connectivity: 1 USB 2.0, 4 memory card slots Print/copy speeds: 30ppm black, 23ppm colour Scanner resolution: 1200dpi Display: colour 1.5" LCD Included cartridges: HP 74 Black Inkjet Print Cartridge (4.5 ml), HP 75 Tri-Color Inkjet Print Cartridge (3.5 ml) Compatible cartridges: HP 74 Black ... It is always changing settings (such as"Threshol") in the middle of a multi-page scan

Airport and Scan
3 Star Review   By Anonymous on HP - Jul 21, 2008

Like the overall quality on this printer but it's slow with wireless. I have it connected to a airport extreme base station and its slow. Can't use the scan function either, doesn't work with wireless. If you need to scan you have to disconnect the airport and plug directly into the computer and do a new printer setup. Poor.

5 Star Review   By Halley on HP - Jun 9, 2008

I got it along with my macbook. I simply loved it. It is so very useful and connecting to it very quick. I just have to connect the usb to the mac and switch on the power to the printer and tats it. Its ready to use. I love the quality of print too. I was a really good buy. I would totally recommend it. However, a printer with a bluetooth would be much better. I did not have that choice when I got it. I would have bought that if I had the choice.

installation difficulty
4 Star Review   By 259zulal on HP - May 27, 2008

This is my second HP printer. But nowhere in the literature with the product, nor on the HP website, is there advice that to install you must close down antivirus, firewall and spyware programs. I tried to install without doing so, and all I got was a spinning timer for 40 minutes. HP should add this fact to their list of instructions. Now it is up and running, it's as good as anything I've had from HP. Thanks guys - but just a little more information would have helped.

HP 3 IN 1 PRINTER. HP C4200
3 Star Review   By BRITZ on HP - Apr 18, 2008

ONLY HAD THIS FOR 2 DAYS,AND SO FAR DOING FINE. WHAT IS THE BEST # PAPER TO USE. I NOTICE THE THINNER SHEETS, MORE THAN ONE SHEET WANTS TO GO THROUGH AT ONE TIME. AND FROM MY OLD PRINTER, HARDER AND SMALLER AREA TO PUT THE INK CARTRIDGES IN, BUT SURE IT WILL FALL INTO PLACE AS I USE IT

Great Value if you have kids
5 Star Review   By PhillyGirly on HP - Apr 2, 2008

I make copies of my babies photos to share with family and friends you have the option to make several different styles and sizes. I would recomend the photo ink #99 and make sure you get quality paper when printing photos. Even with the regular ink and good paper I got decent results with photos. I have already recomended this product to another family member and I give it 5 stars all the way!

Great Machine!
5 Star Review   By Cindybee on HP - Apr 1, 2008

I got this printer/scanner/copier bundled with my new computer about two months ago. It does everything I want it to do, and does it very well. The only drawback that I have found is that it has buttons on the top. My cat likes to sit on top of it, and has accidentally "printed" a page about three times now. Oh well, guess she was trying to tell us something?

LIKE THE ALL-IN-ONE FOR SPACE SAVING. SET IT UP FOLLOWING INSTUCTIONS, NO PROBLEMS. THE ONE THING I DO NOT LIKE ARE THE SMALL INK CARTRIDGES. THE REG SIZE ONES (XL) ARE PRICED TOO HIGH.

HP Photosmart 4280
5 Star Review   By yonnie on HP - Mar 15, 2008

I presently have a D145 officejet in perfect condition but wanted a smaller printer for the space so I purchase this 4280 and I am perfectly happy with it. I have had several HP printers over the years. My only problem is a small but VERY annoying one. I keep getting a small screen pop-up that tells me the printer is available. I know it is available and do not want the constant reminder on my screen but I have been unable to figure out how to get rid of this pop-up. If anyone knows how to turn this off, I hope someone will post it.

DON'T BUY THIS PRINTER
1 Star Review   By member kowala20 - Feb 25, 2008

Strengths: says it can do a lot

Weakness: This thing jams like crazy. I had my lemon swapped with a new one which proceeded to jam on the very first test page. It seems to jam every 2-3 pages.

I DO NOT recommend buying this at all. I have been through two of them already. It jams every 2-3 pages- and skips occasionally. I have tried 4 times to print 7-10 page double sided documents and have been unable to get 1 done right. All others have jammed or skipped. I print pretty infrequently which makes my point about the jamming even worse. The install was also horrible adding the 'webprinting' feature which prevents any cutting and pasting from the web impossible. I have talked to tech support from hp probably 3-4 times for this printer alone. It also interfered with Vista and caused an error where it reinstall everytime you plug it in. I don't know if other people had this problem. But my biggest warning is that this thing jams constantly- and I've been through 2. I would NOT recommend this piece to anyone.

Never Worked
1 Star Review   By conmom on HP - Dec 28, 2007

I bought this printer to replace my old hp all-in-one, returned the next day. I never even got this printer to work. It had a carriage jam from the moment I turned it on and I could never get it to clear. I tried everything listed on the troubleshooting guide but it still never worked. I would not waste my money on this printer!

Amazing help with our wedding.
5 Star Review   By Wicker on HP - Dec 26, 2007

We wanted to use the all in one to scan old pictures for the slideshow we created and it worked great, especially when I put more than one photo on the glass. I could pick out several photos at once and let it scan. We also used it to print our programs for the wedding (over 1000 sheets of printing) and it had no problem with the 80 percent cotton paper after we adjusted the paper settings. Still going strong.

HP all-in-one
4 Star Review   By member GASTURBO1 - Dec 8, 2007

Strengths: Color screen, card reader.

Weakness: No USB cable, a bit too noisy.

Black Friday give away especial! I have never been a big fan of all-in-one products but I was very pleased with the performance of this lower end printer altough not a par with other HP stand alone's. But I can't complain when I got it for free (after rebate) with my HP laptop. It has a nice color screen and built in card reader. It doesn't come with the USB cable which is very common with just about any printer now a days. Overall a good purchase.

Great for the Price
4 Star Review   By member hu_yushu2003 - Dec 6, 2007

Strengths: Price. Weight. Dimension. Quality

Weakness: Small LCD.

Generally I like this HP product. It is cheap. Its quality is great for the price. Easy to use. Decent design. Not heavy. Appropriate dimensions, not too big. But the LCD is only 1.5". That's fair: you got what you paid.

4280 needs help
2 Star Review   By Aloha on HP - Dec 4, 2007

I have had a succession of HP printers over the years but never one that experienced so many paper and carriage jams. I admit it is very easy to clear a paper jam. Another problem is that the scanner does not recognize the USB connection. Everything else works just fine.

HP Photosmart C4280
3 Star Review   By member drmek - Nov 13, 2007

Strengths: Compact design, memory card slots, faxing, copying, scanning

Weakness: Ink usage, no network capability

This is a nice all in one printer which has a small footprint and a 2.5 inch color LCD screen to preview the pictures which you want to print. I found the black print quality to be very good and the color print quality to be acceptable. I have also found that the print cartridges are very small and therefore they do not hold much ink causing one to replace the cartridges frequently. Overall this is a good basic all in one printer.

Scan no work
1 Star Review   By tedy07 on HP - Nov 10, 2007

My old HP printer broke. The tech guy couldn't fix it so he talked me into buying a new one. He convinced me to upgrade to one with scanning. I had one before and it didn't work after 6 months but he got me to upgrade. The scaner has not worked since I got it. Stay away from the scaners.

Convenient All-in-One printer package
4 Star Review   By member bbc_32257 - Oct 31, 2007

Strengths: Being able to print, copy or scan is a definite step up from a standard printer. Built in memory card reader even includes an xD-Picture Card slot.

Weakness: If you need to print a photo for a special occasion, okay, but otherwise I'd save the ink for routine print jobs.

With the ability to print, copy and scan, and with the built in memory slots, the HP C4280 All-in-One does provide multiple advantages over a standard printer, but, let's face it, mediocre printers can usually be purchased for a fraction of their suggested retail price (often even free) with the purchase of a new computer. The reality check comes when you have to purchase ink cartridges. Printing best-quality photos is slow, but average printing is quite speedy compared to some printers I've used and the print quality is very good. I would say that this is a good printer that would be suitable for a student or a light home user.

Great Printer
5 Star Review   By OSegTex on HP - Oct 10, 2007

Fast printing photos, color and black. The scan and copy settings are very easy to use. Variable quality can be choose. Portable and you don't need a PC to print photos (which are like laser quality). Best printer I have ever own.

Great all-in-one for the price
5 Star Review   By member jackm2211 - Sep 26, 2007

Strengths: Price, speed, size

This printer is excellent for budget concern user. This printer does everything--printing, scanning, and copying... The printing is very fast--probably about 22-25 pages/min on black and white... (spec says 30 pages/min)... pretty good already for my work. Photo printing on photo paper is pretty good, too. HP printer comes with cartridges that have ink head attached. This make the cartridges to be more expensive, but in return, you will not have a clogging problem of the ink head... This happen a lot with Epson printer after one year of use--every time you clean the ink head, you waste a lot of ink. On contrary, the HP printer will last you for a long time. Great printer... highly recommended.

5 Star Review   By CubanPete on HP - Sep 25, 2007

I've owned several HP Printers and currently still use my HP5740, but my new HP4280 stands alone as the best HP printer I've had the pleasure to own. From the easy set up and ease of use to the fantastic color prints, it's just awsome!

This product is excellent and I would recommend it to both my office and friends if only it can be allowed to circulate in foreign markets like Nigeria.

Hp got it right!
5 Star Review   By mepatd on HP - Sep 6, 2007

I can't believe how good the performance is for the amount of money this printer costs. It's fast with great quality. the only negative would be there could be some sort of labeling for the various memory cards. that's it, buy it you'll be happy.

HP C4280 a GREAT little printer!
5 Star Review   By member wakerider017 - Aug 30, 2007

Strengths: Small, easy to use, accepts memory cards

Weakness: Print quality is not up to par with some of the expensive photo printers I use at work... But hey this printer is a really great deal!

This a great little printer for the money. The best feature about it is that you can print without having your computer turned on. Just pop in your memory card and you are ready to go! Installation was Very easy. I just followed the included directions and I had it setup in minutes! Another great thing about this printer is that it is both Mac and PC capable!

Perfect for dorm room
4 Star Review   By member abclarke3 - Aug 12, 2007

Strengths: FAR with Macbook purchase. Easy to set up. Flat bed scanner and copier for occasional use (late night last minute papers due compatible). Photo quality ink available.

Weakness: No USB cable.

Can't understand why HP doesn't include a USB cable, unless it's pressure from retailers who want to sell their overpriced cables to unsuspecting customers. Cost to HP would probably be in the range of 50 cents, while the big box retailers work hard to upsell $xx.xx+ cables. Printer works fine until you run out of ink - that's the gotcha for HP (and other printer makers). But with so many FAR deals with computers, cameras, etc., just pitch (recycle) the printer and use another free one. In today's market, the printer with ink is totally a disposable item.

Suprised
4 Star Review   By WAPD on HP - Aug 6, 2007

This printer exceeded my expectations. It works well and the photos look great. The only thing I didn't like about it was the fact that you had to buy a USB cable seperately. Luckily, I had the cable from our old printer.

OK for inexpensive all-in-one
3 Star Review   By member beatme - Aug 2, 2007

Strengths: Does what it claims. The screen and buttons are nice. Cheaper than some others.

Weakness: Sometimes the software is annoying. Need to have the Digital Imaging Monitor running in the background to be able to use the buttons.

I really like the copy machine functions. Very easy to use. It is also nice that there is a button on the top to choose the quality. I always choose the lowest to save on ink. The software is annoying if you need to work through the computer. I think that this is the type of printer that is just fine if you get it on sale, but it is not worth the full retail price.

Best for the best price
5 Star Review   By Scret on HP - Jul 31, 2007

I bought this printer at a very low sale price after buying another brand and returned it, The speed and quality of print can challenge higher priced models. It does great w/4x6 borderless photos. The ability to connect my cameras or cards is another great feature. Scanning is easy and w/the screen, this printer is easy to use. If your looking for a mid cost All In One, this is the one. Forget other brands, you will just need to return them as Ai did Stick with HP

Not for cardstock
3 Star Review   By shorty on HP - Jul 22, 2007

Note when you are shopping that "makes cards" does not mean a printer will take heavy paper like 65 lb. card stock. This printer only takes up to 28 lb. paper. This printer printed beautifully on letter paper, but I needed onefor flyers and cards. Printer is quite noisy.
