This is a real step up from the 8500 series. It's faster, quieter, manages paper better with a more simple ink system. Bravo HP!

The Printer is HORRIBLE if you print envelopes frequently, Your forced to either buy an additional tray just for envelopes which raises the height of the machine and the cost, or take out the paper from the paper tray and then place in your envelope(s), print them, then replace your 8.5x11 paper. Probably not a big deal if you rarely print envelopes. ...... I believe it prints fast and in good quality otherwise, but for me envelopes are essential

What more can I say. I told it yesterday to print a two sided version of my tax return. Went up stairs and there was a nice two sided copy of my tax return. No flipping sheets no muss. We are scanning all our medical records. No single feeding pages it takes them all in. This is a great printer and a great value for home or small business. I'm a virtual employee and have been using smaller printers and boy have I made a mistake. This 8600 takes care of all of my business needs.

color of printer & output tray & noisy
Color of printer is too dark, esp., for older eyes. Output tray doesn't move making it more difficult to add paper to tray underneath it. Manual that came with the printer did not address the features of this all-in-one. Also, sounds like the paper is jamming when it is picked up to print. Very noisy printer!!

I didn't listen to the negative reviews
I'm glad I didn't listen to the negative reviews. I have been considerng this printer for several months. When my old 7210 (which was a great all in one) finally succumbed, I read the recent reviews of the 8600. I almost backed away due to comments like: "it was real noisy", "it was slow", "it was difficult to set up". "the touch pad was hard to use". Please folks, whomever wrote those comments must have been comparing this machine to their $10,000 office machine. For less than $300, this works great. Easy set up. Easy touch screen. Acceptable speed. Easy and smooth paper feed. Good output, color and b/w. Obviously I am only one user, but I am very happy with my purchase so far. None of those criticism have been an issue so far. Of course, there is one that I haven't had a chance to address as yet. One of the critics said it was a great machine for about 6 months, then all fell apart. I have only had mine for about 4 weeks.

I was faced with a massive job of two-sided printing on over 3700 sheets (forming over 170 booklets). The HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus performed perfectly. The last page was a clean and neat as the first. This volume of work, though unusual, was produced at a more than acceptable speed. I am a home user with certain organizational obligations, and am extremely well pleased with my purchase of the printer. I recommend it highly!

Poor scanning software
I give it one star because this is the 3rd officejet pro I have purchased. (R-40, 8500, 8600). I love the machines in themselves but each one is a great dissapointment in the area of scanning. Document scanning is my main use. If you make the settings low the scans are unusable. If you make the settings higher the document files are incredibly high and cannot be emailed. I have tried every combination of settings and many online cures but still have found nothing satisfactory. With each purchase I hoped that the problem had been corrected because I assumed that HP was aware of the considerable amount of online complaints about it...well the 8600 is no better. Three strikes and you are out! I'm going with another brand.

Good printer but awful touchpad
If only the touch entry panel worked well, this would be a GREAT printer. Unfortunately, there is a display to touch alignment issue and it cannot be re-aligned. So, you touch 1 and you get 4, you touch 5 and you get 8. It also requires about 12 touches just to hit "Black" for fax. Its the worst touch screen I've ever come across.

Excellent office AND home use
We had a IT friend set-up the printer for us and he set it up for wireless and smartphone usage. It was installed Saturday and by Saturday night we were using it with our laptops. I've even sent an e-mail from my cell phone from work and it printed up very nicely and timely!

Good machine, compact, lightweight
The 8600 Plus overall is a good machine. For an all-in-one, it is compact in size and weighs less than 30 lbs. I like all of the features it offers, especially the ePrint and wireless capabilities. The only problem I had was the touchscreen control panel locked up on the second day I had the machine. HP support tried feverishly to help me fix the problem over the phone. When nothing we tried worked, they sent me a new printer. I recieved the replacement in 2 days and everything is working well. The only reason for my overall 4 out of 5 rating is that my old all-in-one had stopped working and the control panel issue caused me to be without a printer for 2 days, which was a bit of an inconvenience.

The printer is excellent, prints letter and legal size, envelopes, and photos. Scans and copies up to legal size. Unfortunately, non of the specs or advertising literature tells a prospective buyer this. When I got it home I thought it did not print legal size and the paper drawer was too short. I searched all the instructions but they made no mention of legal size. After two days I noticed a small blue tab inside the left front of the drawer. By pressing this and pulling the front of the drawer forward it increases its length to accommodate legal size. The engineers did an excellent job but the marketeers and sales types did a poor job in writing the sales pitches and an instruction manual. I thought there would be a comprehensive instruction manual on the internet - no, just a brief "setup" type. It is in English, Spanish, French, and Portuguese though - lots of help that is! So- five stars for the printer - no stars for the HP marketing and sales departments. Meg Whitman should look into this problem.

Best OJ Ever (That I know of)
The HP Officejet 8600 is the best inkjet printer I have ever had. I spent more on this because it was highly recommended in a PCWorld magazine review and it was worth every penny. I may never buy a cheapo printer again. This printer seems extremely intuitive. It prints envelopes well (a 2nd tray would be great for this). It has multiple color cartridges which simply must be more cost effective. For the first time in my memory, I have a printer that is fast and trouble-free. After several months of use, everything about it seems easy. I hope HP lets the same design team do all their printers because this one is excellent. I bought two more for my seasonal offices. Can an inkjet get any better than this one?

Fast but has isues
I purchased this printer primarily for its automatic sheet feed scanning ability for PDF files and second for its print speed. I'm very happy with the speed and print quality, but the automatic sheet feeder skews the scan terribly to the point of being unusable. I pretty disappointed.

Fantastic All-in-One Printer
This printer model was recommended to me, and I could not be happier with it. I wanted an All-in-One that could print documents and photos, scan (especially direct to email), fax, and copy - all in black and white or color and via WiFi. This printer does it all, and does it very well. The touch screen is a huge bonus, since you can choose all of your options, including scan to email with the address included, while at the printer, instead of walking back and forth from the printer to a remote computer. I also found that initial set up could all be done at the touch screen, although a setup CD is included as well. The print, scan, and copy quality is sharp and true to color. (I have not used the fax function yet.) The printer responds and completes jobs quickly. You can set up multiple authorized users and email addresses by using the website, with one primary email address as the default. The quality of the printer also appears quite good. I ordered this online and had it shipped, and everything arrived in perfect condition. Overall, I would highly recommend this for anyone wanting a multifunction printer for home, home office, or small business use, and I would purchase it again.

Paper files to PDFs works very well
I have several file drawers of paper files, manilla folders in file separators, and I wanted to turned them into an electronic file system. I'm making great progress. I can scan a 1/4 inch stack of 8.5 inch by 11 inch papers in the feeder and then add non-standard sizes to the PDF. After the scan of non-standard sizes, I can individually tweak the brightness of the scan which goes in the PDF so I can scan faint hand writing and bold black text to the same PDF. Working great so far and I'm doing one folder in about 15 minutes counting my waiting for the scan and verifying the results in the PDF. I'm pleased with these capabilities which are not elaborated in the sales promotion information. I tried 200 dpi first but switched to 300 dpi for better scans. For file folders with pictures I use 600 dpi on the photographs. Very practical. Printing and other features seem to work as expected but I do not use the web features since I connect with a USB cable. I don't FAX either.

Fail to print;poor support service
I purchased this printer about 6 weeks ago. After the initial installation and after printing about 50 pages the printer stop printing. All connections checked and were OK. I tried to get help from support services to no avail. No identifiable telephone for support either. Extremely disappointed with HP for such inferior product and lack of resposible support service

SET UP PROBLEMS & LIMITATIONS
The first one purchased display keyboard didn't work. Returned it to the store for a replacement after spending 1 hour on the phone with HP tech service. The replacement worked but I discovered that printing a single envelop or photo involves emptying the paper tray, filling it with a stack just to print a single copy. Then replacing the paper. My original laserjet printer, that I traded in had an adjustable slot above the tray for single sheet printing. This is very disappointing lack of feature that was a convenience on my other printer. It's a shame because otherwise the printer quality and ease of operation, after an awkward setup up with problems, is great.

4 new printers, 4 failures
Strengths: If it worked it would be a GREAT printer
Very disappointed. After 4 different printers in 2 weeks (each one lasted less than 3 days before problems arose), we have given up on HP for our business. We quit buying HP printers a few years ago because of quality problems. We let ourselves be talked back into trying their new 'top of the line' 8600. The first one had scanning/faxing problems after about 2 days (a line down the middle of the page). The second printer had the same exact problem. The third printer could not successfully set up because of print head issues and the forth started squeaking loudly after about 2 days. 4 new printers, four bad fails...Needless to say we are looking into other printers and definitely NOT HP. To their credit they replaced them as they failed, but holy cow... 4 for 4 ! We stopped the loss there when they offered to send the 5th printer out. HP quality used to be the best, but our experience the last few years puts them way down the list. A few years ago I wouldn't look at any other brand for a printer. Now I will no longer look at HP.

Abundant features, crisp, clean printing with duplexing, completely operable without ever using printer controls on printer. Allows ink to dry if printing multiple pages to prevent smearing. One of the best multi-function devices on the market. Handles all aspects of a home or small office with excellent results. Great value!!

Best AIO Inkjet on the Market
Normally I prefer laser-type printers, but the HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus e-All-in-One Printer has changed my opinion of inkjet printers. It's consumption of ink is the lowest on the market, and its per copy cost is at least 45% less than a color laser. The dual tray capacity gives the user a 400 8-1/2" x 11" sheet reserve, and the automatic duplex printing works seamlessly. The choice of a USB 2.0, Wi-Fi, or Ethernet connection satisfies all personal and small business office needs. The sheet feeder design is just simply superb, and the scanner function works well with the supplied software and with software like Nuance OmniPage 18 Pro. The built-in fax function also works extremely well. I highly recommend the HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus e-All-in-One Printer for any home and/or small business user, because it has advanced features and low operation costs.

Almost a perfect printer
One thing...ONE...stops this from being a 5-star review, and it is so major it almost made this a 3-star review. I love this printer. Easy to use, easy to set up. However, it is all but impossible to print envelopes, and certainly isn't an easy process. Basically, you have a paper tray. You want to print an envelope? Remove tray, remove paper, insert envelope(s), readjust paper guides, insert tray. Done now? Remove tray, remove any unused envelope(s), readjust paper guides, insert paper, insert tray. Setting up a mass mailing and need to print to 200 envelopes? Convenient! (Oh wait...you're not supposed to load more than 5 at a time, so you can't even do THAT!) Need to print one or two envelopes? Not happening. So you might be thinking oh, that's fine. I'll just get the additional tray. Sorry, the additional tray only holds regular paper...and isn't it insane to have an entire tray of envelopes if you just need to print a couple a month? Factor in the 5 envelope limit and you have tray 2 filled with paper, and a great big empty tray with 5 envelopes. Other than this huge glaring error that should have been caught very early in the design stage and NEVER have made it all the way into the finished product, this is a really good printer.

H P is the best, I'm impressed.
This is what I have been wanting and now thanks to HP I have it, Life is great. I just wish now I would have gone ahead and got the optional second paper tray. Regardless I am very happy it worked great. The duplex feature is actually faster then i thought it would be. Print quality super and easy to install.

I have a reputation for having "high expectations" and this printer EXCEEDED them. It arrived timely and undamaged. Set up was a breeze. Step by step instructions are included but you may find, as I did, that everything about this printer is so logical that you don't need them. Just assemble, plug in, load software, follow prompts and you are up and running. I waited to write this review until I had used it for a few weeks. I do a lot of printing for my 2 small businesses and this printer has had no problem keeping up. Print quality is great and the speed is excellent (my husband who works for a large corporation with access to high dollar printers even commented on how fast it it). The 2 sided printing feature has been wonderful, saving me both time & irritation (not re-loading paper by hand) and money (from saying "forget it" and just printing on one side). Scanning documents is easy and contains the ability to save in multiple formats at multiple resolutions. As you can tell, I love this printer and would highly recommend it!!

HP OfficeJet Pro Plus 8600
Strengths: Does exactly what it claims it can do.Connected to laptop via wiFi
Weakness: None as of yet.
ADF seems to work well with standard copier paper.FAX's, copies, scans & prints - doesn't make coffee.Given the type of paper which I am using, printed photo's are quite exceptable.I find it quite amazing that one could purchase this machine for $220.00 with FREE shipping.

Smaller and Quieter
I had a Office Pro 8500 that had too many copies in it's history. I ordered a Office Pro 8600 Plus and have been impressed. The unit is smaller, and quieter yet is faster making copies. The lid over the scanner appears to be a little flexible, but has not been an issue. If your older printer is having issues, you will be glad you upgraded to a new Office Pro 8600 Plus

Have always had HP printers. Changed to a Kodak a year ago, but just got rid of that and ordered another HP. Only thing I don't like is the paper tray. You have to slide your paper holder, that catches the paper out of the printer, in everytime you want to put in a check or different paper. My older ones are not like that. Just slip the paper in.

Upgraded to this after the print heads gave out on my Officejet 8500. Easy setup. All wireless connections as was the 8500. Setup the E-Print capability which didn't work at first but after I restarted the printer it was fine. E-print is nice option for remote printing and cell phone access. Hasn't missed a beat yet. Very nice prints, fast scan and printing. I liked the Twain scanner interface on the 8500 better however - it had alot more options to enhance the scan and the ability to resize the scan window.

Delivery great, didn't have up to date drivers
I love the speed and features of the printer. The printer did not come with Windows 8 drivers so I had to download from the HP site. Highly inconvenient especially when I ordered the printer directly from HP. The wireless connection had issues with Windows 8 so I disabled some startup programs and use it with a USB cable. Once finally setup, the all-in-one printer does a terrific job.

High Functionality - Great Value
The functionality of the printer, speed of printing and cost of the cartridges is phenomenal. Inkjet printing has come a long way. The scanning direct to email or a computer on your network is brilliant!

The hardware installed w/o an issue. The software install process (Window 7) was fantastic. This worked first time (as opposed to the 8500 software that was problematic at times). The printer works great and is significantly more quiet that the 8500 it replaced.

Easy to Use
Small, light, compact. Setup easy out of the box. I would recommend uninstalling previous HP printer (eg my old L7580) prior to setup, but not mandatory -- caused minor conflict. Otherwise working great! ePrint works easily on my HTC phone, will be handy. Went to website to download full feature driver and installed this after uninstalling the basic driver that came with printer. Network setup without trouble. Overall very satisfied with the printer so far.

Not good for a small office
Bad office printer or for someone looking to print often. The printer constantly interrupts my print jobs so it can clean the print heads or realign the printer heads. Also be aware that the the printer heads are not sold at retail level and need to be ordered directly from HP, inconvenient if you are in a rush.

This printer was easy to set up on the network and works very fast. I was very pleasantly surprised to find I could print to it from my Apple iPad. ... hadn't expected that. My husband surprised me with this printer when our school could no longer pay for printing of the students worksheets. I love it! Its fast, clear, and the colors are vibrant. I owned several earlier HP models and this is a big improvement. Contrary to the previous post, I only use various brands of paper that my parents send in, and I have printed on card stock-no problems at all. Double sided printing was an added bonus and saves on paper.

Sadly, it is going back
After hours with tech support, discovered that this wonderful printer will not work with anything but HP paper. I have a bookshelf full of colored cardstock, avery labels, and colored copy paper that will not work with this printer. HP paper does not offer substitutes for these. The pick-up roller leaves dents, creases and crinkles on the paper when it sees the paper loaded in the tray, which is less than 50% of the time. Own 3 other older HP printers and have been happy with their performance :( Sad to see things going downhill for us needing in-office printing. Tech support was great, although they could not solve the problem.

So far, so good
I chose this printer because it was highly reviewed. Unpacking and installation was straightforward until I got a 'leaky cartridge' error and could not proceed. There are only one set of installation cartridges which come with the printer. After cleaning and reinserting cartridges several times without success, I tried new cartridges. Beware, you MUST use the installation cartridges only or you get a new error message. I then searched online for how to resolve. I unplugged, turn off/on, etc. and the error message finally disappeared. All has been well since. I sure hope the cartridges (a very different style from my old HP printer) are robust. They are expensive. Nonetheless, I like the printer well enough that I have purchased another one, for our other residence.

top notch all in one machine
I purchased this printer to complete the programs for our upcoming wedding. installing this printer easy to say the least. Every device has no issues printing and the eprint for mobile devices and tablets works great also. I would highly recommend this printer to anyone searching for a strong well built all in one. The paper tray has good size capacity. Ink cartriges have a good amount of printing in them. Installation of the ink cartriges is very easy. I really like the light feature when the cover door is opened. this makes changing cartriges extremely convenient. There are many other great features this all in one has to offer such as apps that can be added directly to the printer, a nice large touch screen, scanning, faxing and all other options work great. I am very satisfied with this purchase and I am sure it will be used and enjoyed over the next few years. Thanks HP!!

Super fast - Great buy
The feature that impressed me the most about the 8600 Officejet Pro was the large ink cartridges that the unit uses. The black HP 950 cartridge is rated for 1,000-pages, the black HP 950XL 2,300-pages, HP 951 color cartridges 700-pages, the 951 XL’s 1,500-pages. The 8600 is super-fast and easy to set up. After loading paper into the tray, turning the power on to load the ink cartridges, I connected a USB cable to the CPU unit, downloaded the software, disconnected the USB cable, and in less than 10-minutes the entire setup was complete. The 8600 Pro instantly recognized my Vizio router. All I had to do was type in my router pass code and it automatically set up my wireless features. Every feature exceeded my expectations. This is the best HP printer I’ve owned.

Jury is still out. Haven't had it long enough to honestly rate it. But, so far so good. It definetly out preforms my HP 7310 (which I've had in service for about 10 years, with zero problems)

May change rating from 1 to 5 stars
I have used HP printers for a long time. My Photosmart 3310, a great product, gave up after 6 years (the printhead could not be cleaned). So I ordered the OfficeJet 8600 911g because the color resolution was the same as my old Photosmart 3310 and the new Photosmart printers do not have ethernet capability nor telephone fax whereas the 911g does. The reason for the one star is that when I try to print photos on 4x6 or 5x7, it won't print; it says "out of paper". I am returning the 911g for a new one and I expect that it should work great and earn my 5 stars and a recommendation to buy.

After figuring out all the features of the printer I find it to be pretty cool. It took me a while with the eprint portion and I haven't yet gotten the efax going but I feel confident that when I do it will work great as well.

Fastest printing ever!
This printer has been in my home/office only a week, so I can't truly comment on all the features. but what i have experienced is easy wireless set-up that worked on the first try for everyone in the apartment. Also, I had to print 23 copies of a 21 page document quickly last night, and other than changing to "print from back to front", it went fast, really fast, and seamlessly (no stuck pages).

Excellent machince @ an excellent price!
The Officejet Pro 8600 plus is the best HP product I have owned to date. The printer found my network, locked on and located all devices in my network...even all iPads & iPhones can print directly to the printer...this alone is worth the price! Printing, scaning, copying & faxing...all work flawlessly. Set up was easy as can be...done initially from the touch screen contol panel and then each laptop via the provided software. Great product from HP. The price was also right, 30% discount buying direct from HP...great product, great price! Definitely purchase this product.

Perfect Home Office Product
This is the second 8600 e-printer purchased for my business, one for each office. It is easy to set-up, the functions make it a production center for all the e-devices that form the foundation of the business. It brings a lot of productivity in a small foot print and the cost of ink is in-line with our budget. The quality of the documents produced are equal to more expensive products used elsewhere.

Plenty of Features
After using this nice printer usually one can find a draw back. It prints great, it great copy options, the auto document feeder works great. It can even scan a document to a folder on my computer on the network in my house. Setup was easy as can be. Many more fun options. One small gripe is that its ability to pickup cardstock on the first go. This includes business cards, I have to push ok, four times before it picks up the paper. But once to have done that, the rest of the copies made pick up fine. Even if you stop printing and realize you need one more, it prints fine. Until you go back to plan and back to cardstock. Maybe this could be fixed in a firmware update. To which I hope this helps both you and HP.

Love the printer so far
I really like this printer and hope that what they say about the ink is true. I had other HP printers and had to ignore their out of ink notices. This has too cool features also, I haven't used them all and I haven't printed any pictures yet but I am impressed with all that I have printed for the start of my kindergarten year.

The printer was fairly easy to install and operate. I purchased it because it has a legal size flat bed scanner. So far it is working great.

Won't transfer photos from memory cards
I bought this AIO to replace my 6310 AIO that has worked very well for years. I especially wanted one with the card readers, as I transfer photos frequently for my online selling business. This model only offers view and print from the cards! This is a major fault, as far as I am concerned, and wasn't addressed anywhere in the selling info. I have talked to support twice, and could map a network and transfer photos ONE time, then the printer has to be power reset, and the network mapped AGAIN. This is unacceptable to me. If support doesn't come up with a permanent solution, this will be going back. Besides this one problem the other features are nice and work very well. Setup was easy with my Mac Mini and wireless connection worked right away. If you don't need to transfer photos to your computer, this is a great machine. I just wish I had known about the lack of photo transfer before I bought.

This is the best printer for me.
Over the years I have owned or used many HP printers. This is the best of all of them. It is great for printing wirelessly from any room in my house with a variety of computers, iPads and cell phones. It also seems to be very economical with ink, and can be used to print on a wide range of paper sizes from photo paper to card stock.

This is a nice Printer, has good features.
This is a very nice printer, Prints fast, lazer quality printing, good color, large paper feeder, fax works great, great for coping, in fact the copies look better than the originals copied, scanner is easy to operate, not the best I have seen but it does the job. The biggest draw back to this printer is, it is very difficult to print card stock. Most of the time, 65 to 67 pound card stock will not load at first, the out of paper light will come on. However, if you continue to press the out of paper light 3 to 5 times the paper finally will load and print. But, if you have more than one card to print, I print 100 at a time, it will take you several hours because of the feeding problem - it can be done but with much frustration. Card stock over 67 pounds will not feed through. However, aside from the minor card feeding problem I find this printer serves me well, it does a very nice job on printing, in fact I think the printing is as sharp and clear as a lazer printer, but in the end it uses a lot of ink. Over all I would buy this printer again and recommend it to my friends and family; and the only reason I don't give it 4 stars is be cause of the difficulity in printing card stock, but other than that this is a great printer!

This printer is so much better than the 8500 that we purchased for our church a year ago. They have fixed a lot of the bugs. I was able to set it up quickly and love being able to print from wherever I am working on a computer. The print outs are clear and crisp. It is still new so not sure yet how much ink it will go through.

5 out of 5 for a Reason
I bought a Muratec commercial grade printer for my home office. I thought that was the answer, high volume copier, fax and scan at very fast speed. Unfortunately, the commercial grade machine was not Windows 7 compliant. Big Mistake!!! So, I bought the HP printer, was able to trade in an old HP photo printer I had and get a great price! This thing is simply amazing. I set it up on my home wireless network in under 10 minutes. The on board screen gives you step by step instructions. I used a wired network solution with zero issues. My router recognized it, allowed it on the network and away I went. I set it up so that scans were sent to recipents directly from my email address. I also set up to scan to my cloud service with zero issues, took under 5 minutes to do so. My other compugters on my home network recognized it and can print to it without installing the included CD software. Finally, I can print directly from my Android phone! This thing can truly do it all! As for print quality, on par with the best of devices. The scanner quality is superb. The build quality is leaps and bounds above what I expect from HP. The company has redeemed itself in my eyes. I highly recommend this device for any home office!!!

After one week I've experienced two phantom "paper jams" where the printer detected a paper jam despite no paper jam or for that matter, no paper movement since the previous successful print job. In the process of clearing the phantom jam, the printer's own procedure calls for turning off then back on the printer. When I go to turn off the printer, it pops up a warning that eminent damage to printer cartridges will occur if I turn off the printer. This happened 6/4 and 6/5 2012, with the printer in operation only a few days. That being said, the printer works well usb and wirelessly, and the wireless scanning is smooth, too. If it continues to be buggy - it's going back.

This Printer is the Best Inkjet Yet
First, let me state that I did extensive research before purchasing this printer. I looked at the reviews on several websites, including customer reviews. I would like to address some of the negative reviews because I believe they are unfounded. This printer is a breeze to setup. The on-screen display guides you through setup step by step. It is pretty much idiot proof. I would recommend you download the drivers right off the HP site. Do not use the provided CD. Drivers are constantly updated, so you are better off getting them right off the manufacturer site than loading them from a CD that may be a few weeks or months old. For those who gave a negative review, it sounds to me like you might be computer illiterate. Please work with a friend or family member who knows how to setup and configure a computer and printer and you should have no problems. As for the printers features and performance, I have an Ipad and Iphone as well as a Dell laptop. It works with all 3 devices. Printing is very quick and the quality is excellent. If you are in the market for a All-In-One Inkjet for home or small office needs, I would highly recommend this unit.

Very slow in quanity printing and scaning
An average product. Slow when you need a number of prints and scan is also slow. My 8500 was a much better product. Fortunately, my wife still has hers so I can utilize it when I need a quicker turn around or better scan.

does not correctly communicate wirelessly
Does not and never has correctly communicated wirelessly with the computers (two laptop & one desktop) after going into the energy saving mode. Nor does the scanning work consistently. Will be scanning documents one moment and then the next document will not scan. Have to turn the wireless settings from on to off and back to on to get the communication back up and at times have to turn the printer off then back on. Have spoken with all levels of HP tech support and they want me to hardwire the printer even though it is suppose to function wirelessly. It has been six months, earlier HP stated they were aware of the problem and were working on a software patch, none forthcoming and 6 months is enough waiting. We will see if HP will replace it.

Good buy but w/problems
Cann't get it to 2 side print but will 2 side scan & print and will 2 side copy & print but not 2 side print. It also has a hard time loading card stock paper to print. I will put the card stock in the tray and it keeps telling me to load paper and I have 10 sheets in the tray the pickup fingers just have a hard time with this. Other than these problems I like the printer but will have to use my HP Photosmart C6180 for cards.

Great Printer, Easy Setup
Have only had about 3 weeks. Have tried most features and so far the set up was easy. Have used it with a wired and wireless settings. Have printed pictures and they are good quality. Having to change the paper to photo paper is different from my previous HP AIO (not a big issue for me). Have used the Fax option. Touch screen works fine.Satisfied with my purchase to date.

Good, but could be better
When I unpacked my new HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus e-All-in-One Printer, I learned that it was a little larger than the space I wanted it to fill. This was not unexpected, just disappointing. I set it up with little problem, inserting the ink cartridges and paper and connecting it to my computers, wirelessly. I noticed that the paper tray was only about 9 inches long. One of the selling points was that it could handle legal sized paper (8.5" X 14"). So, I went to the "Help" program, which confirmed that it could handle legal sized paper, but did not tell how. I downloaded the manual, which confirmed that it could handle legal paper, but also gave no instructions. There was a chart that showed that it did not duplex legal sized paper. That is a major problem, in my opinion. I tried customer service for my problem of loading legal sized paper. Several attempts were disappointing. Eventually, I took out the tray and removed the paper. After searching, I found a structure that did not appear to be a button and a label with an arrow saying, "LEGAL". Pushing the structure, I was able to expand the tray. Previously, when I inspected the tray, I did not take out the standard sized paper. So, my complaints are: 1) It is unable to print on both sides of legal sized paper using the duplexer. 2) Poor, inadequate documentation. 3) Inadequately trained or illiterate customer service personnel. 4) Smaller would be better.

Not happy with purchase
I received my printer and it was like what I saw in the stores. BUT, IT DID NOT COME WITH A USB CORD AND IT WAS SEVERAL DAYS BEFORE I COULD HOOK UP MY PRINTER AND USE IT. The USB cord should be a part of the printer purchase and not a separate order. I will keep this unit, but if I had it to do over again, I would look for a different brand to buy. If the unit had been supplied with the USB cord, then I would give it a better rate.

I received the printer one day earlier than expected. Setup was a breeze. Still learning to use the touch pad features. Quieter and doesn't jump around like the 7680 it replaced. Had a lot of trouble in the end with the automatic document feeder on the 7680. Hope it last as long as the old printer. Good product by HP.

Worth the money?
The promised features are there, and they even work at times. When they do work they are great. The consistency of performance has been an issue. The networking communication fails for no apparent reason, requiring a reboot of either the printer, the computer, or sometimes both to correct the issue. At times the scanning functions are unavailable, and the time it takes to load print jobs can be ridiculous, but not always. When it comes to actually mechanically printing, this machine is quite fast and the output is of high quality. If the rest of the issues were less frequent or didn't exist, this would easily be the best all-in-one printer I have ever owned. As it is, I am tolerating it and hoping that the bugs smooth out.

I purchased this printer to replace an HP 7500 which was a real workhorse. I needed eprint capability and figured the 8600 being a step up from the 7500 series would be equally great. Not So! I have done minimal printing with it over the last month, until today. When I tried to print on cardstock, it kept telling me to load paper. I tried to contact HP Chat, but couldn't connect. Reviewed the trouble-shooting instruction in the manual and went through the steps several time. I could sometime get one copy to print, but then it would fail to load the paper again. I had to keep messing with the settings, then finally had to extend the paper tray in order reach my hand in and push the paper up so that it would (sometimes) feed. It took all afternoon to get 30 copies printed. Then I needed to print envelopes - big mistake - wouldn't print using the envelope setting. I finally had to resort to the plain paper setting - then it worked. After printing the 60 envelopes (black type only), I tried to print a simple black and white instruction sheet, but the ink was faded out on most of the page. I checked ink levels and nothing was below 20%. I cleaned the printheads through all three stages - the print got worse with each one. After the third round, it suggested that I replace the print heads! This is a new printer - what's with replacing the print heads after 600 copies!. I wish I had kept my 7500 and bought a simple eprinter. This one is going back to Costco tomorrow.
