Software will not install
2 Star Review   By member u950077 - Sep 19, 2008

Strengths: How would I know

Weakness: Installation, from the provided CD, hangs, every time.

I've spent a lot of time trying to install the software provided on the CD. It hangs, apparently for no reason. No network activity -- so it's not waiting for a download; no disk/CD reader activity -- so it's not reading media. Software installed fine on my wife's XP Pro; refused to install (ever) on my Windows Mediacenter.

7210 ADF problems
2 Star Review

Strengths: It does everything it is supposed to do most of the time; price is reasonable

Weakness: the ADF is weak and fails consistantly, this is the 4th unit I have had.

I purchased my first 7210 in September of 2005. The ADF (automatic document feeder) failed after 2 months and would not feed properly, jamming faxes and feeding more than one page at a time. It was still under warranty so they replaced it. It was great for about 9 months and it started again with the ADF (feeding and jamming). They replaced that unit in November of 2006 and it was ok for another 9 months when became symptomatic again. I had purchased an extended warranty which was what saved me. They just replaced it for the third time again in November of 2007 (seems like every year in November I have to work on it again). The max copy/fax number is 5,000 but I do about 300 copies/faxes every month so that's not it. After going through the repair instructions (reset at least 6 times and cleaning with a lint free cloth and distilled water) from both online and by phone, they do send another one right out. Phone Tech support can be difficult depending on whom you reach. Many have a heavy East Indian accent which creates more frustration by adding communication problems to the already compromised techno knowledge I possess. After asking to speak to the supervisor, we got the problem fixed but not until after the tech argued with me about my extended warranty program and after going through the manual of questions i.e. operating system, hookup, etc, etc. They did find it after I gave them the warranty number. Jamie is a bright star though, he got right to the problem and made my day; he was in tech support somewhere in the world and actually listened to my complaint; I received that unit the very next day! However, this unit is remanufactured, not refurbished so i inherited someone else's problems. It will not scan or send pictures with the picture cards. It jams and tears up documents. After speaking numerous times with tech support, they are finally sending me another one which I have high hopes. I have had a 1320 laser jet that has been absolutely problem free and I make tons of copies on it. I will buy HP again, however, will do research about the unit before I replace this one (after the warranty goes out). I suggest you keep a log of when you called, whom you talked to, what they said and keep your serial number and phone numbers handy in your user guide. That’s what saved me!

Officejet 7210 All In One
2 Star Review   By member MarknFL - Jul 13, 2007

Strengths: All in One, everything there. While some dislike the software, it worked fine for me and I liked how well it installed. Of course, I had the G85 before and it was a nightmare. Network is great.

Weakness: All in one, if one thing fails, it is trash. Doc feeder is too frail and jams frequently. I had to work on it several times. The 7210 died at 22 months and is now trash.

Good points: __ Networking worked well and seamlessly. Running both network and USB connections had no issue, other than the USB connection could not be found about 20% of the time. __ I liked the software. The scanning was easy. The OCR worked well. Pictures scanned well. Printing was good. __ Pictures printed well, with good color and clarity. __ I liked scanning pictures. The thing would even do real one-button scanning, which the old Officejet G85 promised but couldn't do. __ The fax worked well in the beginning, but we did have a few problems getting it to connect and go through a month ago. Also, it had issues picking up lately. __ HP Chat was always available. ______________ Weak Points: Reliability. That is something HP meant years ago with LaserJet. We have a 13 year old LaserJet that still runs, after countless cases of paper through it. __ The 7210 is too fragile and frail to be real. I'm afraid I'll break it each time I open the printer to replace ink cartridges. About 20% of the time, my computer can't find it, even hooked on the USB. __ The document feeder is jamming or not feeding most of the time. HP guys told me how to take it apart to get it running a couple of times, but the sad part is, it is just too weak and frail to be of any real good. It is definitely unreliable, and isn't the point of a document feeder so you can set a stack in and let it run? __ Sadder is that real faxing requires the document feeder and any real copying requires it, too. __ Printing has had a few problems, too. If you run into issues, try power off, hold # and 6, plug in the power cord and turn on. Wait for Semi-Full Reset or something like that. If it is software, you may get it running again. __ HP chat is available, but they are not too in depth in troubleshooting. Or it could be that there isn't anything to troubleshoot. They know it either works or is dead and that is about it. Disposal items. Buy, use, throw away. So far, no one really showed a lot of technical expertise except one guy who did clue me on how to work on the document feeder. Everyone else would leave me on hold for a long time and give a few basic steps before saying it needed HP Service. __ Today, it died completely. Turned it on, all lights began flashing. Reset won't work. 22 months old and it is now worthless junk for the dump. __ HP gave me a "great" offer of "upgrading" to a 7310 for only $299. Considering the 7210 and 7310 are virtually the same, I can't see paying $300 for a machine that will last 2 years at most and it already 2 years old. __ They didn't offer any of their others, meaning they simply want to unload their old unsold junk on victims like me. __ Can I recommend the 7210 or HP? No!

Poor Quality & Service
1 Star Review   By member alanfcox - Jun 5, 2007

Strengths: All you need in one piece of equipment

Weakness: If you have a problem you can loose everything

I purchased the HP 7210 because I thought that I would get quality and service - how wrong can you be. The printer is just 18 months old and has a page count of 1320 and is only used for light domestic use. Recently I started getting an error message indicating that "the cartridges were not intended for this printer" - I did think that this was a little strange as it had functioned perfectly on these cartridges for some months. Thinking that the cartridges were at the end of their life I changed them and this rectified the problem for 2 pages when the message appeared again. I thought that I may have had faulty cartridges so I changed them again only to experience the same problem. I then went through the HP Help Desk who told me to clean the contacts and reset the printer - when this didn't work I was told to change the cartridges again. When this didn't work I was informed that it was a hardware problem and that I should contact a Premium Rate Help Line. Realising that all they were going to do was to make more money from my problem I decided to contact Customer Services who were sympathetic but indicated that there was nothing they could do as it was not a known problem. A search on the Internet soon revealed similar problems from other owners - so much for an unknown problem. Consider my experience of HP against that of Bosch when my Dishwasher malfunctioned. It was two years old and out of guarantee when I had a problem and I called out their Service Agent who diagnosed a faulty thermostat - this was replaced but did not cure the problem. I rang Bosch who indicated that the problem that I had was quite rare and it was down to a faulty motor - I thing they heard me gasp as I could imagine that it was going to be expensive - "don't worry they said we will replace the motor and refund the costs that you have already incurred - we would not expect a motor to fail in this short space of time" - it was replaced and a cheque was sent within 3 days and the washer is now perfect. I think you can probably guess who I would deal with in the future - not HP that's for certain.

2 Star Review   By member WhyNeedNameToReview - Oct 19, 2006

Strengths: Network-connected printer/fax/scanner

Weakness: SCANNING! and software in general.

I agree with the comments about bloated software and especially scanning and the poor support by HP. I finally figured out the problem on my own (not sure if this will help anyone else): HP Director's scan program is incompatible with Symantec/Norton's firewall. If (and ONLY IF) I disable Norton's firewall protection temporarily can I get the scanner to work. Now about the bloated software... have you seen the size of those modules?! And you can tell when you try to use it - press a button and light a cigarette (or go for coffee, etc.). Nuff said. Hope this helps someone.

Disappointed
1 Star Review   By member ontar5 - Oct 2, 2006

Strengths: Good concept. Has everything you need.

Weakness: Short life span

I am on my second 7210. First one had the faxboard go in less than one year. It was replaced under the warranty. Now the second one - which is 7 month's old is constantly flashing an error message either that the ink cartridges are not compatible with the printer - which they are (new HP's own brand) or all the light are flashing and there is an error: 0x07d 54dd6. I have done everything that HP support has suggested and everytime within the hour of getting off the phone the printer is in an error condition again. btw I just hung up after waiting on hold for over 30 minutes for a support rep. I am hoping this time they will relent and replace this one too!

HP Officejet 7210
4 Star Review   By member rebbargprice - Apr 12, 2006

Strengths: Networking, Fast printing, All-in-one

Weakness: Just bulky

Before I bought this I looked online at the reviews, and I was a little scared about the scanning, especially since I was using it on my wireless network. I'm not sure why everyone had so many issues with scanning. Mine works great! ...and I can do it via wireless from my laptop. The printing speed is great, just set it on "draft" which most of my documents for customer's is good enough quality. I probably wouldn't do it for a presentation though.

do NOT get HP. This is the second and last time for me--first one also paper jam problems. They have settled class action suits over this but problems remain.

OfficeJet 7210 AIO used on network with Windows XP and Mac OS X
2 Star Review

Strengths: Ethernet connection, multifunction (copy, fax, print, scan) capability.

Weakness: Faxing/Copying multiple pages

I have a small business which requires numerous copying of files and faxing of same. I purchased the 7210 and was pleased with the printing (all facets) and user friendliness. However, once i actually got rolling, it was EXTREMELEY frustrating to try and make copies or send faxes over 4 pages. All though the tray "holds" up to 50 pages, after 2 pages, the pages get jammed. Groups of pages go through together, causing the hP to stop transmitting or copying. It took me 1 and 1/2 HOURS to fax a 36 page file!!! It has taken me 6 attempts to send a 16 page application, with multiple attempts. This has caused me to have to go out and purchase a stand alone fax, and not use the fax feature from the HP7210. This has caused additional expense and additional space in an all ready cramped small office. Writing to the company only acknowledged a problem with no remedy. Therefore, I would NOT purchase any HP All-In-Ones again.

HP Imagezone software blows !
3 Star Review

Strengths: Print speed and quality excellent Fax speed and quality excellent

Weakness: annoying humming noise

Decent machine but the software took my system to it's knees. I uninstalled the software and reinstalled the machine with drivers only. Works great as a printer and a manual fax. I cannot send faxes from the PC yet but, hopefully, I will soon figure out how.

HP Officejet 7210: Looks great but too noisy
4 Star Review

Strengths: Very fast printing, but make sure the extender on the print tray is pulled out or you will see paper flying across the room. Clear and user friendly buttons on the front panel.

Weakness: Very noisy when scanning documents. The first time you hear it, you will think you have a paper jam. Software takes a looooog time to load. Creates a bunch of startup programs. Delete them.

I previously had an HP 7110 and was happy with the performance (except for the fact that each color needed it's own printhead -$35.00 each) so I vowed never to buy a printer with a separate printhead. None on this one which is good. Don't like the cheap removable paper receiving tray. It can break easily if you bump against it with the extension out. Also, it doesn't tilt upwards so that you can add more paper to the feeder. You have to lift it up and out. Also, no finger depression for lifting up the paper in the feed tray. Very good printing of text documents. Printing pictures on 32lb. bright paper is very good. I print out 80-100 of pictures of homes for my home inspection business and the quality is very good. Slightly washed out compared to my Canon IP1600. Small details not defined as good as the canon, but difference is only noticed if you look real close. Overall, I can put up with the minor problems and can recommend it to any home or small office business.

2 Star Review

Strengths: print is clear.

Weakness: loud, software....

I just got off the phone with hp again. I've had this product for 8 mths. It suddenly decided not to send faxes anymore via the computer. Manually, yes. HP says "it works perfectly, it just has a software problem". Also, if the color cartridge is empty it will refuse to fax. The technicians become testy if you ask them to repeat themselves. All around not a good product or experience.

Good Concept - Poor Execution
1 Star Review   By member bkmpublic - Nov 20, 2005

Weakness: Does not easily connect to the network

What good is network printer/scanner if it cannot scan when connected to the network. Just locks up, and gives an error that the printer cannot be found. Funny, though, it registers and IP address found even inside the HP software. Junk Junk Junk. Do not but this scanner if you are looking for a SERIOUS document scanner. Perhaps this is why the manual only has 3 pages on scanning. this product is not meant for a small office - this is meant for the home user that does not require serious scanning. My policy with HP is that if it does not work immediately out of the box - I send it back the next day. Crap Crap Crap.

Strengths: Nice printing, faxing and copying; and I love the duplxing.

Weakness: Software installation; Scanning.

Two (2) months ago I bought the big-daddy of the 7210: the 7410 (it seems to be virtually the same unit with some add-ons). Folks, I wished I'ld gone out to the Internet and fully researched HP and its problematic scanning issues first. Bad scanning experiences abound! Googling "HP AIO scan problems XP" will yield over 60,000 hits! I'm a bit surprised that PC World's reviewer didn't run across this scanning issue. I've spent about 20 hours on HP's on-line chat support service (including their phone support team; by the way, it seems these 2 services don't share their records). Because of the installation difficulties, HP also offered to and did send me a replacement printer (refurbished, of course). And I am thankful. However, I am experiencing the same problem with the new unit. Oh, I can print, fax and copy and I'm well-pleased with this unit's abilitites as to these 3 functions -- but they are supposed to function well, aren't they? However, I still have no scanning ability. If you require scanning, I recommend you thoroughly check this printer's scanning ability before you buy. I'm sorry I didn't. It seems my only hope now, after trying numerous uninstalls/reinstalls, etc., etc., is the ability of HP's Level Two support team. Until then, scanning isn't part of this unit's multi-funtion capabilitites. Perhaps you'll have a better install(s) than I did and the unit will work well for you. I hope so. I also hope my experience is an anomaly. I've had really good HP equipment in the past and want to be able to depend on a brand like "HP".

OfficeJet 7210
5 Star Review   By member fredigolo - Nov 14, 2005

Strengths: integrated functions: ethernet interface, memory card reader, fax, paper feed (for fax/scanner/copier). Also very fast. Compatible with MacOS & Windows

Weakness: Software: instalation takes forever and is a bit complicated to deal with. Using memory card reader through the network is very slow

The integrated ethernet interface allows sharing the printer/scanner/memory card reader easily to different machines through the home network, although memory card reader is a bit slow. A very good deal if you have more than one computer at home and want to share all the printer's functionality to them, which is not always possible with an external printer server (some of them only allows sharing the printing functionality....)

Bad software, network connectivity is very poor
1 Star Review   By member sol103 - Oct 9, 2005

Strengths: ???

Weakness: Software very buggy, network connectivity does not work for scanner

This product has been very frustrating for me. I purchased it because of the network connectivity, however, I found out it does not work. Hp support asked me to remove my antivirus and spyware software and re-install - but it did not work. HP support was very poor and could not help me. My recommendation: DO NOT PURCHASE THIS PRODUCT. I expected more from HP.

HP OfficeJet 7210
4 Star Review   By member cimarron - Sep 22, 2005

Strengths: Network connection, Copy/Fax/Scan/Print in once device, great memory card support, memory card access on PC as a drive

Weakness: Extremely bloated software. Many of the functions which interact with the PC require HP's software. It would be nice to have a more standard interface. HTTP web interface is very vanilla!

Overall, a great device for the price. The memory card support is outstanding and the access to any of the memory cards as a drive on the PC is great. The network support is another nice feature. Most devices around this price only have USB. The FAX features are better than many other all-in-one devices that I've seen. It has many options for speed/quality trade-offs. On the negative side, it seems to make this constant faint humming noise as if you were hearing the phone line which is fairly annoying. The Software is a nightmare if you just want a minimal/fully functional implementation. To access many of the features, you need to install the full HP disc which installs many, many entries in the registry and under the windows directory. Also, be carefull not to install the ink cartridges while the printer is off. It will label them as used and the ink level indicator will always show low even when they are completely full.

Weakness: hangs Dell dimensions 4800 computer if plugged in upon boot. Hogs ink. Breaks easily. Uninstalling is a security risk.

We tried all the HP line... they use the same software for most of their junk printers. When removing the print driver, the software scans through every file on my personal hard drive--looking fo what??? Only HP knows. Hogs ink. Three units broke: they started feeding the paper "crooked" even though they were brand new. Cheap, flimsy, poor quality (hardware). Print nice, but so do all other printers.

Officejet
2 Star Review

Strengths: Printing Speed and Quality of Print

Weakness: Noisy scanner!!!

When scanning, especially in the batch mode with the ADF this device is incredibly noisy. In a small office that does contracts or other large documents it is extremely annoying to have to listen to it as it goes through its scanning process. You can not be on the phone and be in the same room when it scanning. I finally had to return it and subsequently bought a Canon MP780 which is much much quieter.

Excellent installation Wizard that seems to take every option into consideration. It asks all the right questions. The best of 3 multifunction printers I've had.

Strengths: Multifunction. Networked. Outstanding printing and faxing.

Weakness: The size is big, though not heavy. The setup is not as easy as expected.

It took sometime to set up the machine (1-2 hours). But once it is done, all work great. The printing speed and quality are just amazing. If you need a high quality scanner, copier, printer and fax, this is the right choice for you.

Strengths: speedy printing, easy installation, paper feeder, great design

Weakness: software is not easy to work with, ink cartridges are small

I bought this machine to replace my scanner, fax machine and printer. First of all it's great to save so much space now that this machine replaces three others. I read the reviews before I bought this machine and since so many people complained about the installation and setup I was a little hesitant to buy. But I did anyway because this machine was just exactly what I needed. I'm happy to say I didn't have any problems with the installation. Setup was easy, installation of the drivers and software didn't give me any problems at all. Put the CD in, clicked "next" a couple of times and that was it. The computer did all the rest. I connected the printer to my USB port. Installation took a while but after installation was complete, everything worked just fine. I don't quite understand why some reviewers complained about the setup for scanning. Everything worked just fine after I installed the software and that includes scanning. Maybe setting up the network part is a little trickier, but if you plan on using it with your USB port there shouldn't be a problem. The printer prints at very high speed for an ink-jet printer. I was impressed. I already used the scanner a lot, dropped some papers in the automatic paper feeder and let the machine run. I used to put every single sheet of document on my old scanner myself and the benefit of a paper feeder that does all that is just wonderful. I love it. It saves so much time. It even scans both sides of a document by itself. I also scanned some photos and they turned out okay. Nothing spectacular, but the software lets you tweak the scan if you like. I have to experiment with that a little more. The software is not quite the way I'd like it, but hopefully I get used to it. It offers a lot, but doesn't seem to be easy to work with. Like others mentioned before, if you plan on printing with photo ink cartridge you have to switch out the black ink cartridge. It doesn't really affect me. I rarely print photos and if I do the quality of the regular color cartridge works fine for me. So I'll never have to switch. The printer holds a black and a tri-color ink cartridge. I think that the ink cartridges are very small compared to my old printer. So I wonder how long they will last. Installing the cartridges is easy and the printer aligns all by itself. So far I'm very happy with this printer.

Strengths: Fast printing speed, networking capability

Weakness: Size - ensure you have plenty of space to keep this machine

Grabbed this on a great deal that popped up on the net (as always!). While the unit is almost identical to the 6210, the key differentiators are networking ability and slots for flash cards. Printing speed is very good for an inkjet with colors rich & saturated. I did not face any major installation issues unlike some other users. Faxing speed is great as well and most pages get transmitted in about 10-15 seconds unless you have heavy graphics on them.

Strengths: Great Wireless All in One!!

Weakness: Set-up is tedious especially the scanning part.

Great one with wireless capabilities and ofcourse it is HP. The ink cartridges are little expensive but the quality is awesome. Though it is wireless, you can only use it for printing and not for scanning/faxing. Overall, very satisfied.

2 Star Review   By member hphjalm - May 18, 2005

Strengths: Prints and copies.

Weakness: Difficult to setup scanning. Bloated software.

It took me more than 5 hours to make the scanner work. I was on the phone for approximately 4 hours with first level technical support. After he said the problem lies with my computer I was allowed to speak to a second level technical support person. The problem was that the scanning software detected another process using the scanner. Under the guidance of the technical support person, I tried numerous actions (reinstalling, rebooting, system check, virus check, ...) but none worked. Since I have had several bad experiences with HP scanner software, I knew that our failure was not evidence that my computer system was at fault. Thus I persisted, and after a few more complete power-downs of both the computer and the scanner, the bogus message quit popping up and I was able to do scanning.

Strengths: Looks pretty. HP name. Can find it anywhere.

Weakness: You have to put a panel on the front when you unbox it the buttons jam if not done correctly. It did not fax from windows apps like it should. 300 bucks too expensive. Tech support not good, HP name

I had purchased an hp 7210 the day prior ($270.00). The thing would refuse to let me fax from a windows applications. It would send 1/4 of the page to the fax then quit. Talked to 4 hp tech guys for 5 hours no one could figure it out. Kept asking me the same things over and over. Is it plugged into a surge protector? Give me a break already!!!! Well I got rid of that hp the next day. I purchased a brother MFC-420CN the same day. I noticed that brother had about 5 network capable fax/printer/scanner models for under $200.00. Great selection. Paid $129.00 for this baby, and it worked right out of the box. The network setup was very easy. I was faxing from my windows apps in 10 minutes. I tried all the features including the OCR. I did print in color it worked fine. Did not use photo paper however. Even fax to email works like a champ. My first brother device maybe one of many. HP quality has gone down dramatically since the Compaq takeover. Oh yeah good luck finding a non India tech guy at HP, can barely understand the people (nice as hell but man, HP get some U.S. support people). HP I hope you read this and wake up. I was a HP only guy now I'm starting to look elseware.
