4 Star Review   By stampingal on HP - Nov 28, 2011

So far I have only used the printer part of the unit. I have had several paper jams that are difficult to remove. Even when the paper doesn't jam, the top of the page has a kink to it and often a smug of ink. I have not figured out the problem. This was a replacement printer for an old HP photosmart that I could no longer use because it was not compatible with my new HP computer. Wish I could go back to the old printer! Perhaps if you are computer savy you will have better luck than I.

Impressive!
4 Star Review   By CGEARY on HP - Nov 26, 2011

I bought my printer at Costco, got it home & unpacked, saw the really dinky ink cartridges & felt bad about my purchase. They were only 1/3 of the size of my previous HP printer's cartridges, & assumed they would only print about 35 pages. Then I checked here & saw that they go 300 pages for the standard & 1200 for the XL, so now I'm happy. How they can get so many pages outta such small cartridges is beyond me. I ran into the same installation problems that a few mentioned. After the software install I went to align the print heads & the printer made grinding sounds for about 5 minutes. Had two sheets jammed inside. Pulled them out & tried again. This time nothing would print. I tried different documents, checked the settings, checked all the cables(I used USB, not wireless). Still nothing would print. I shut down the printer & restarted, then immediately aligned the cartridges & bingo - prints great! I printed a photo onto inkjet paper & it only took about 10 seconds to shoot out a very impressive print. My only reservation about this printer is that the print heads are in the printer, not on the cartridges like previous HP printers. That means if the heads clog, time to buy a new printer. The old ones would last forever because every time you got new cartridges, you got new print heads.

Very Pleased with This One
4 Star Review   By milehigh70 on HP - Nov 25, 2011

We seem to have a hit and miss relationship with HP printers. Loved the 6300 but wasn't wireless, so went to the 6400 which never worked right and so were hesitant to try again, but glad we did. Set up for this 6500 was a breeze and that's important to a not so computer literate person. Wireless works well, scanning is great, copying is good. Don't need the fax so don't know how that works. The only problem we have had is that it won't print Adobe Reader files off the internet. We have to download the files and save them, then we are able to print them. All in all, this is a very good printer for home use.

Have always loved HP Printers
4 Star Review   By DesMoinesIAUser on HP - Nov 24, 2011

I purchased this a-i-o after having to replace the print head on a Kodak four times in the first year. The HP wireless 6500 usually works well but it shakes and is noisy. My main problem is that it quits printing from my computer so I have to turn off the printer and then turn it back on -- which sometimes fixes the problem. Other times, it determines that it should print off-line and I have to find that problem to take off the request. I would love the printer if it didn't stop when I'm in a hurry to print and get on out the door (I am a Realtor). Many times I just keep trying different methods and it ends up printing and I don't know the exact thing I did to get it to print. I have always used HP printers except the one Kodak and have always been very happy with the purchase but this unit keeps having problems so there must be a bug in the system.

Worst HP printer ever owned
1 Star Review   By ICTRT on HP - Nov 24, 2011

I have been a loyal HP customer for over 15 years. While this printer has great features and the print quality is good, this is the most frustrating printer I have ever owned. The wait time for its calibration is mind boggling. I had a thirty page report to print, it took 14 minutes because of the 3 stoppages so it can recalibrate. If that was the first time or a rare occurrence I would not complain. But it happens ALL THE TIME! Do yourself a favor and move on the next model.

Great Printer, Lousy Software
5 Star Review   By Mandog on HP - Nov 22, 2011

First installed on an HP Laptop running Win 7. Tried to follow the start up guide, got as far as loading paper whereupon it tried to feed the whole stack (20) and jammed. All the lights lit, stated to clear paper jam, turn off and turn back on. Did that, same lights lit, same message. Unable to find any users guide on the install disk and gave up for the day. Turned it off and unplugged. Next day, gave it one more try and it worked, but couldn't see my wireless router (about 15 feet away). Install disk directed me to the HP web site for a download which didn't work. Moved it to about 2 feet from the router, and everything installed perfectly.(???). I Still give the printer 5 stars, as the problem was with the software and not the device Now that it works, it's a great printer and worth the hassle. Also, when I installed it on my PC running XP using a USB cable the install disk worked and the printer works through the router.

Officejet 6500A all in one
2 Star Review   By Ezzie on HP - Nov 22, 2011

Way too much humming and buzzing, clacking and shaking terribly by the printer before it decides to print. I don't like all the drama, quite unlike my previous, quiet, unassuming Lexmark printer that was a workhorse and just printed without making a scene. Not impressed at all. And why bother to offer a USB cable if you're not going to ship it with the printer? The printer was totally useless sitting on my desk until the cable arrived a week later. Set up was horrible as well. What ever became of the days when you plugged one end of the cable into the computer and printer, and the other end into the outlet and let it rip? I have never been so confused by the instuctions that went with the machine. Couldn't find the answer online either. Took me 45 minutes just to find the phone support number. Overall set up time totalled two days as a result. Not a happy customer and not about to recommend this product to my friends.

DO NOT BUY THIS ONE!
1 Star Review   By SophiaIS on HP - Nov 21, 2011

This is my 2nd HP printer. Loved the first one and used it for 5 years before upgrading. This new one I have had for about a month and a half and have spent over $100 in ink and I don't make that many copies. Printing is very slow compared to my older printer. All in all. I will be junking this one and buying from Epson.

710a model is great!
5 Star Review   By sunny1 on HP - Nov 17, 2011

I found this model of printer easy to set up and all the features work beautifully. Delivery from the HP online store was easy and information provided very supportive of purchase and decision. I had been using a Canon which was less straightforward. The only problem I had initially was understanding how to use the commands on the printer. They are hidden unless you know where to press the button.

A little disappointed
2 Star Review   By Anonymous on HP - Nov 17, 2011

I either was unlucky to buy a "monday-unit" or then the wireless modem in these units does not like Mac's or Apple's wireless (Airport) network routers. The scanner feature works 10% of the time and the printing feature is a hit or miss. It says it is connected to my wireless network, but it cannot find my Mac. I have little better luck when trying to print with my HP netbook, but again the scanner feature is more a miss than a hit.

Excellent combination of price and features
5 Star Review   By Staxofjoy on HP - Oct 31, 2011

This is my second multi-function printer and I can’t be more pleased. The setup was very simple (I’ve got mine hard wired to my network) and the quality prints are great. I’ve got a PC, Mac, iphone and iPad that all print to this and it works great. My only concerns are that the first page out takes a bit of time as the printer prepares to print and the ink is a bit pricey. A great overall multi-function printer.

Excellent product and price
5 Star Review   By hwayneh on HP - Oct 28, 2011

Printer installed easily, took about 15 minutes to setup and get into production. The fax worked great after I figured out how to connect the modem...my phone line also comes through the modem and it took a bit of thinking and some reconfiguring of the phone conection to make the fax work (not a problem with the printer.)

Good office printer
5 Star Review   By greenbriertatt on HP - Oct 27, 2011

Good printer for the money. It prints fast and is easy to use. Make sure you take your time and check out all of the printers available. HP has office pro printers which offer even cheaper per page costs and also have larger scanner and paper printers, but this one is a solid printer for a low price.

Not the HP Printer I'm used to for 20+years!
2 Star Review   By RobG949 on HP - Oct 24, 2011

I've been a long time fan of HP Printers and have given them all of my business when it comes to printers. Its been a few years since I purchased one until I recently purchased the 6500A. It sold at a good price, but the print performance and the construction quality really disappointed me. I'm used to HP printers being the fasted and best constructed products that last for years. On top of printing slow, the printer is extremely noisy.. While I still believe in HP Printers, this one is being returned!

Good Printer with poor print quality.
3 Star Review   By Mango on HP - Oct 21, 2011

Printer works OK. However, the print quality is not as expected. Characters are not sharp. While making copies/scanning, the printer shakes a lot and copies have wavy characters sometimes. HP sent me three replacement units and all them had quality issues.

HP Officejet 6500A Blues
1 Star Review   By partimer on HP - Oct 19, 2011

After years of successfully using HP products I felt confident when I ordered an HP Officejet 6500 A all in one print, copy, scan, and fax unit. I was unable to install it and called customer support. The unit would not communicate with my new HP Pavilion p7-1037cb PC. The first time I tried to print I got several lines of text on 6 separate sheets of paper. I was able to scan to my computer and I could print photos from the card slot but I could not print from my computer. I called customer support. They tried downloading and installing different drivers. We tried using a different usb cable. We tried different usb ports. Nothing worked. After my cordless phone died from over 3 hours of talking to different technicians I gave up and called back the next day. Different technicians but the same result. I asked for permission to return the unit. The return process was simple and easy. Now I don't know what brand or type of all in one unit to buy.

Mislead
3 Star Review   By SMal on HP - Oct 10, 2011

First of all, the tech support told me the $50 rebate was limited to our conversation since I was a current HP printer owner. WRONG!!! I could've gotten the same price online through HP. Thus I was rushed to make a decision without really researching the selection he recommended. It isn't the same as my original (no double-sided printing for example). Now the printer is not being recognized in order to scan or fax. When I put in the CD and try to install, it keeps telling me to plug the USB into my computer and printer which it already is. What a pain! And not very happy especially when you don't have a printed manual and I have to keep going to an online or on the computer manual. Dislike!!!

5 Star Review   By bobandmarcia1 on HP - Oct 8, 2011

Setup was flawless. Software easily installed. All features work perfectly. I actually had an older 6500 with duplex and wireless. In 2 years I used the duplex once and never set up the wireless. So when it finally broke (printhead stopped working and it cost $70 to replace printhead only) I replaced it with a new 6500, but without duplex or wireless. I'm a happy camper.

A Great Value
5 Star Review   By bsteine2 on HP - Oct 7, 2011

I have always used HP printers with my last one being an OfficeJet 6300 All-in-One. It lasted for over four years without any problems until I got a sever paper jam and that was it. My new Officejet 6500A is the best bargin and producer I've ever owned. It's a little tricky hooking it up through a network but other than that overall it's the best All-in-One I've ever used. The ink is a little pricy but you get what you pay for. It was shear luck that I picked this one to replace my broken piece. HP has done it again, a great affordable Produce that I'd gladly do again.

The perfect inexpensive printer!

I pretty much only buy HP products and this printer is another reason why...it looks great, minimum footprint, very quiet, fast for an inkjet and has great features. With the $50 off coupon I just couldn't resist and have no regrets

A Bargain
5 Star Review   By ProfPJ on HP - Oct 5, 2011

This printer is the bargain of the year. I had a previous 6500 model for two years, printed thousands of pages and it just gave out one day with an inexplicable paper jam. With HP's discount, this new 6500 cost me $109, including shipping and about $40 worth of color toner cartridges. It's the modern hardware age: cheaper to toss the old one than to get it fixed. And the new one works better. I'll get another new one in two years.

I will not buy a HP printer agian. It keeps doing funny things. It keeps running out ink all the time. Because it keeps running out ink you get poor quality prints.

Don't Buy It!!!
1 Star Review   By IUSEHP on HP - Oct 3, 2011

I have always used HP printers, but this printer is a joke. The onscreen feature is worthless. You have to be very careful because it types in the wrong #'s when trying to fax. I have never had previous printers jam, but this one does. It is slow also.

Works great for my needs
5 Star Review   By Smilealot on HP - Oct 2, 2011

I make a lot of greeting cards to send to shut-ins and family members to celebrate their special occasions. I have used the printer to make photos from my digital camera to share with others. I have printed colored flyers to send to family members who don't have email to announce our summer gatherings. The printer works great for my needs. It is easy to operate even for someone like me who is not very electronically inclined.

Check Features
4 Star Review   By Doghouse on HP - Sep 29, 2011

This is a great series of printers however you need to check the features. I have bought 2 HP 6500 printers thinking I was getting the same printer. The first one had wireless connectivity and I thought this one also had it with the touch screen being the improvement and giving it the "A" series designation. I was disappointed to find that the wireless feature had been removed as well. It is still a great printer but I needed the wireless functionality to print from a laptop.

Best HP Printer I've Had So Far
5 Star Review   By SatisfiedHPUser on HP - Sep 27, 2011

I had a 6200 model for years and when I switched to Windows 7 some of the options no longer worked. Needed a new printer so did some research and chose the 6500A. Very easy to setup and install. I was a little concerned about the small screen that everyone wrote about but have found that it gets easier the more I use the screen. Prints, scans and faxes faster and crisper than my older model. Overall I think this is a great machine for home office use.

I originally ordered the 4500 all-in-one printer--a joke. Kept prompting me to "load paper". Returned and upgraded to the 6500A all-in-one printer and have been very pleased. Fast printing! So far the touch screen has been friendly.

4 Star Review   By kseal2002 on HP - Sep 20, 2011

I bought the new printer, scanner, fax without really looking into what I was purchasing, just did a cursory look at the features and said, "I'll take that one." When the box arrived, I'd thought I'd purchased a third world country, it was so large. Why would they package a printer in a box so large? Well, it's because it IS a third world country! :0) Not so big it's impractical, but big enough not to have to refill the paper every second time I print something. And the scanner? I love the implicity of the use of this piece of equipment! I am still figuring out the fax portion of this machine, but once I do? Look out 21st century, here I come!

HP 6500A Printer
2 Star Review   By JClem on HP - Sep 12, 2011

Shame on me, I did not read the detail of the spec's before buying my HP 6500a printer. I wanted the wireless connect option and this model does not have it, USB or ethernet connect only. Disappointed, I'll read more closely next time. Too much hassle to box up and send back, I'll just grumble. However, I think that a + $150 printer should have had that tech included, the competition does. I'll probably go with them next time.

Love the Printer!
5 Star Review   By CyndiJo on HP - Sep 2, 2011

I just received the HP Officejet 6500A for home use. I love this printer! The scanning feature is awesome. It gives you the option to scan to text, pdf, etc. I had an older HP printer that is over 10 years old, so this printer is really an upgrade. I don't have a phone line to move my router by my printer, so I could not attach the network cable in order to use the wireless. I had the usb off my old printer that worked on this one, so that will do for now until I get a phone jack installed in this area. So, haven't used the wireless feature yet. The printer works great. Haven't used the copier yet either but I'm sure it's good. The printer was relatively easy to set up.

4 Star Review   By mc3920 on HP - Aug 30, 2011

We haven't had the printer in the office long, but I haven't received any complaints in using it. I like the touchscreen and a coworker seems to love the eprint capability that he is able to use from his ipad. The only downfall I saw is how much time it takes to be printer ready in the morning, but other than that this seems to be a great printer.

My latest printer
4 Star Review   By pattymay on HP - Aug 18, 2011

I think it is a nice printer. It is a tad noisier than the other HP printer I had when actually printing, but it's okay. However, I will say this is the second HP printer I have had that I cannot seem to get it to print envelopes correctly and that is a little disappointing. It keeps saying "wrong paper size", no matter what you try it seems. Maybe there is a trick I just don't know about. My older HP printed envelopes great, though. It's still a good printer for the money.

Good Purchase
5 Star Review   By HiNative on HP - Aug 17, 2011

I just purchased my HP 6500A USB at Staples for $79.99 which is 1/2 the Actual Price. Had no problem with the set-up. Print, copy, and scan features are excellent. Did not bother setting-up the Fax because my one Digital Phone Line is also hooked up to an Answering Machine. From what the HP Tech told me, to use the Fax with an Answering Machine, I need to set-up the Fax to answer on the 4th Ring, and the Answering Machine to answer on the 6th Ring. H-mmmm, if the Fax answers on the 4th Ring, will the Answering Machine still answer on the 6th Ring? My Neighbor said if I do a lot of Faxing, the best solution is to just add another Phone Line exclusively for the Fax. But, I figure most people or businesses nowdays have a Computer so I'm contented to just scan a Document and send it via E-Mail in lieu of a Fax. Agree that the User Guide (hard copy) is skimpy of information, but most Printer and Computer Manuals nowdays are skimpy as well. I think HP wants the User to call Tech Support for problem solving issues related to the HP 6500A. Later on, I may hook-up the HP 6500A to my Verizon FIOS Router to see if it'll work for Wireless operation.

Great machine horrible DSL
3 Star Review   By Phyllis52 on HP - Aug 17, 2011

I like the machine and was fine for about a year when I noticed the LCD screen was not functioning. It was worse than trying to read ANSii. It got worse. Then the red light stayed on ( indicating a problem) I took it in for servic eand the manager and I fwere thinking it might be defective (new) ink cartridge. Even though I did not think that was the problem. We swapped out red ink twice. It worked for 5 minutes (still with the ANCii ) but kept dying. The store called HP support and they were clueless too. I ended up trading it in for a 7500 (I had 2 full sets of unopened inks) and am happy just hope the anscii does not return. A friend of mine has the 6500 and the same thing happened to him He is now working on the trade in as well. I do not know if he wiil be getting the 7500, since he does NOT have ink stockpiled.

Replaced a broken 6180 with this- and the result is so-so! The Menu screen and controls are great- but the plasic output tray and other items seem flimsy! A dedicated photo tray would be nice! Some confusion with this unit as well! Just give it a different number! 6500/6500A/6500A 710/6500A690E- get them straight! Also- a little more info in the booklet- how hard is that? Everything else seems to be what I expected! Great Price too!

Our church office recently purchased an 8500A and I liked the way it worked. It was more printer than I needed at home and when HP sent me an email offering the 6500A at 50% off, I jumped on it. It was easy to setup and prints beautifully from both my desktop and laptop. With its scan and fax capabilities it was a great buy; and I haven't seen it advertised anywhere else at the price I paid.

Good, but not great
4 Star Review   By JoyDivision on HP - Aug 5, 2011

The Officejet 6500A performs as its supposed to, but its nothing special. The menus aren't intuitive and it takes quite a while to find out where all the features are. The owner's manual helps, but it's like any other manual, boring and you have to survey a lot of useless information before finding what you want. The software packages that come with the printer is a lot of bloatware and very few useful things. HP seems to want to pack your computer with as much software as possible, but the product is solid.

nice product bad support
5 Star Review   By reddie on HP - Aug 4, 2011

The 6500a does the job so well you almost forget how complete a feature set you have in this unit. After a frustrating setup you get perfect print from any network device including Ipad. You get Eprint support for remote printing, and very easy to use scan/fax support. Setting up Eprint is simple provided you load the paper tray correctly prior to set up. The Setup guide lacks any directions for the critical step. Calling support off shore is worse than a dentist visit. Three agents later and still no one knew about Eprint. Their answer is transfer you one more time back the queue. Summary, Great produce and poor support, buy it if you can do it yourself or don't mond wasting endless hours with ill trained technicians.

Disappointed
3 Star Review   By johnwc on HP - Jul 28, 2011

HP6500 Wireless has excellent features built in the machine, however it is loud and takes a bit of time to get "ready" to print.. The disappointment are the ink levels are too little in the cartridges. There is simply not enough ink in the cartridges and I have to clean the print heads any time I start to print a picture after it has sit a day or two. This is the forth HP printer I have purchased.... I got it so me and my wife could share a printer. I would not recommend if you are printing a lot of pictures. I have purchased a Kodak to do my pictures and use the HP6500 for everyday printing only.

Problematic printer
2 Star Review   By switchgearman on HP - Jul 28, 2011

I wouldn't recommend this to anyone - it looks ok at first, then the problems come. Problems when changing cartridges & problems with the software (if in my situation). I bought the non-wireless model for the office (E710a). Then later bought the wireless model for my personal use (E710n) before I started seeing the problems. This item will print & scan well & properly but these are not the problem areas. The printer starts some kind of cleaning process after some 20-30 secs after finishing printing & no new printing queue. It's noisy & takes time, about 15-20 seconds. No printing can happen once it starts doing this & until it finishes the process - annoying! Especially when you're rushing to get print outs urgently for some meeting or submission. When you change the printer cartridge, it will almost certainly detect non-existent problems - sees empty cartridges even when they're full & new. it oftentimes can't detect new original cartridges. Not only that, those cartridges still with ink you're not changing & that you've been using w/o issue can also oftentimes then show up as empty or not the proper cartridge! Say, you change only black when the 3 coloured ones have plenty of ink left but after changing black, the black, cyan & magenta all are messaged as empty or not the right cartridge even tho u didn't touch the color cartridges. The problem seems to be the comms contacts between the cartridge & the carriage. U need to remove the affected cartridges & click them back in, then wait for detection & pray it's detected properly. Or 1 cartridge becomes ok but the other doesn't. Then the other is ok, but the earlier ok one then shows up as undetected. I usually have to do it a handful of times before it's ok. Many times, it's over 10 times, no exageration. There've been twice I couldn't get it going at all & had to throw away those cartridges - they were original cartridges bought from reliable store. New cartridges had the same problems but they at least eventually got detected. Really annoying! More so when you need the print out urgently. This process sometimes takes me 10-15 mins. to sort out. Time is wasted coz each time u open the cover to get to the cartridge, u have to wait for it to move back & forth from the dock area to the access area & wait for it to stop. Same problems experienced with both my office & home printers, so, it's not my bad luck I happen to get a faulty printer. I bought a similar model for my home because I take my work notebook home to use & I thought with the same line of printers I'd only need to install one software, & one or maybe 2 printer drivers. Uh-uh. In fact, it caused more problems because while installing you have to choose "wireless" option or "non-wireless". But they're the same software & driver. So, I can use one but it won't allow me to use the other. The software isn't able to detect that there are 2 distinct printers. Unless I uninstall the drivers & software, then reinstall & select the appropriate one, i.e., if I'd selected for E710a non-wireless at work, I'm not able to use the printer at home, the E710n wireless, from this notebook, and vice versa. It won't allow me to install both because they detect it's the same software & won't install. Unless you uninstall. This is stupid. I'm so fed up with these I've bought another printer for home even though my E710n is still under warranty period. If I wasn't able to resell it to get some money back, I would've thrown the printer into the sea. If it were my choice, I'd do the same with the work printer. Called HP Support when the ink cartridge thing first happened. No help whatsoever - "I think you have a problem with the cartridge & should buy another one". I had to figure out the problem myself.

Pretty good
5 Star Review   By LinH on HP - Jul 26, 2011

I have only used the printing function so far. So I don't know how scan, copy and fax work good or not. It prints fast and clear. However, during every printing task, the machine takes a while to be ready for next printing task and it shows on the screen "preparing the printer". I don't know if it's just mine or it is considered to be normal with this model. I used to use a cheap HP's deskjet and it didn't have that problem. I had to replace it because it doesn't support Windows 7. Overall, it is a good buy.

Great Printer
5 Star Review   By harleyrider on HP - Jul 18, 2011

I have had some troubles with HP printers in the past but this one is great. It prints quick and it turns on pretty quick. The power went out when it was in the middle of printing and when it turned back on, it just started right up again. Not too loud or bulky and I haven't used it for scanning, copying or faxing yet

Great Buy
5 Star Review   By niki069 on HP - Jul 10, 2011

Its a good thing that I don't take reviews seriously, after reading the pros and cons I decided to go with my gut feeling. I received my Office jet 6500 the other day, after removing it from the box it took me exactly 10 minutes to have it running wireless along with my fax and scanner. the printing is fabulous. I printed several Digital photos they came out perfect. I haven't tried the two sided copying and I may never try it because I have no use for it. The design of the printer is great it is finished in some areas matte black and other areas in high gloss. I have not had a glitch in the operation of this printer and in comparing it with my Photosmart 7200 this printer is superior in design and in performance. I HAVE NO PROBLEM IN RECOMMENDING THIS PRINTER TO ANYONE, HP has produced another top notch quality all purpose printer, you can't beat it for for the price they are selling.

Best Printer Ever!
5 Star Review   By computerchick on HP - Jul 1, 2011

Typically, I don't bother to write a review for a product but I had to go on line and write one for this printer. It is the best HP printer we have ever owned--bar none. Scanning is easy. It prints lickity split fast. Color is amazing. I just love our new printer. I would highly recommend this product to anyone on the search for a new, wireless printer. Very happy customer! I have no affiliation with this company whatsoever.

Problems copying
2 Star Review   By pablopicasso1234 on HP - Jun 20, 2011

The All-in One will not copy some times. The All-in-One system just freezes. It will not allow you to cancel the copy, and sometimes you cannot turn it off. I have had to unplug from the power source to turn the unit off. After turning it back on it will copy. It is just frustrating that at times it refuses to copy, and just hangs, and then will not cancel the copy. This is not HP's best. Theyshould fix this ASAP.

1 Star Review   By Pays1 on HP - Jun 19, 2011

I purchased this unit to replace the next larger aio by HP that failed! This 6500 started out fine and then stopped functioning properly. The most important feature, HP Solution Center totaly stopped working. I have tried six different times to reload the operating program and to no avail. I have even purchased a new opr disk from HP and still no help. I have found this problem to happen often enough that fixes have been posted on the internet. After trying too many times to rectify this printers problem I am looking elswhere for a aio that works with no problems.

Excellent machine for the money!
5 Star Review   By Vegasdawg on HP - May 13, 2011

This is a great machine for the money, someone mentioned with this particular machine if you have Comcast digital phone service, you would not be able to fax. I have that service, and I had no problem faxing, and I even called the person I faxed to verify that they got it successfully, and they did. And all the other features, including the photos are great. The initial setup was surprisingly very easy. It comes with a very simple startup instruction sheet. So you could be on your way setting up this machine in no time. I'm definitely not a computer guru or a person that understands directions very well. But this was really simple. I give this machine 5 stars, keep up the good work Hewlett-Packard.

WORST PURCHASE EVER
1 Star Review   By Driven on HP - May 11, 2011

Bought this Hp Officejet 6500A on April11, 2011. Won't send all the fax. sends 1-3 pages then the rest are blank. Won't always copy with out unpluging then pluging it back in. Technical support no help. They just say to unplug and replug in. Whoopee. This was my third Hp All-in-One printer. The others were just fine. Don't buy this one!!!!!!!

710a is a great printer
5 Star Review   By Action on HP - May 6, 2011

I had an OfficeJet 6500 709a and disliked it from the start. It took forever to print; it conflicted with my desktop periodically, and finally had a paper jam that broke a part! I despise the 709a. I had a stock of 920 ink cartridges, so I started looking for a compatible printer to use them up. I replaced the 709a with the 710a which uses ethernet linking along with a USB connection. I now have a fast printer that works with my desktop, laptop, and our cell phones. It prints beautifully and it has separate ink cartridges for the black and the three ink colors. It saves energy by going into a sleep mode while not being used for long periods of time and wakes up quickly when you need it. It makes very good scans and copies. I do not use the fax since everything I get comes in PDF or Word. BTW, the 710a was less expensive through the HP store and delivered overnight. I recommend the 710a.

Don't use for a fax!!!
3 Star Review   By donnie63 on HP - Apr 17, 2011

The 6500 is OK for scaning and copying but don't attempt to use as a fax if you have a digital phone line since the fax portion of the printers are all analog. Many people these days have digital phone service (comcast, wow, u-verse) and the fax portion will not work with these type systems. (or at least the techs don't know why they won't). I talked with a HP tech who told me there is no way this fax will ever work with that type of system. I proceeded to ask him why do you sell a product that only 3 of the 4 functions will work when many people these days have a digital line?? His response was " thats how we sell those machines". If anyone has any idea how this fax will work with the U-Verse digital phone system please email me and let me know!!!

Most Frustrating Printer Ever
1 Star Review   By SmBizPartner on HP - Apr 17, 2011

I have become great at removing jammed paper. I guess I'm not very good at troubleshooting because this machine makes it is way too complicated. The printer is on but it says its offline. What? "Now what" is more like it! Creating a scan mode is easy. Trying to figure out how to use it is impossible. I wanted low file size documents so i created a setting at 100 dpi. Too bad its too complicated to figure out how to use it even if you select it. Still pumps out 25 Mb doc. Great! Uses too much ink also and at $20 per color per pop, not worth it. DO NOT BUY THIS UNLESS YOU WORK FOR HP OR HAVE PLENT OF TIME TO CONTACT IT. I am a Web Dev Lead (i.e. computer savy) and can not figure this product out. I do not and will not recommend.

Outstanding Performance and Features
5 Star Review   By BobAla44 on HP - Apr 16, 2011

I bought this printer on line after seeing the incredible discount to less than $100. It is replacing my ancient PSC 2175, an All-In-One minus the fax feature, that I've had for over 5 years. I can't believe how simple this 6500 is to install and operate. I have over 4 PC's in the house, but this printer primarily services the two in my office. Because one of my office computers is tied by VPN to my company network, a network connection doesn't work from that computer unless I log out. So I connected my work computer to the printer by USB cable and it works from my work computer whether I'm connected to my company network or not. My other office computer then connects to the printer through my home network by connecting the printer cable from that computer to my router. Works like a charm. It also allows other computers in the house connected to the router via network cable or wireless, to use the 6500 also. REMEMBER, this model is NOT WIRELESS!! So by connecting it to my router, wireless connections to my router can use the printer as if it was wireless. They can all use all of the features of the printer as well, scanning, faxing, receiving faxes to file, etc. How very cool. I had tried a Brother as a replacement, but it was horrible. Would not scan more than one document at a time and also required total breakdown of the paper tray to print an envelope. With the 6500, all I have to do is place an envelope face down on the right side of the paper tray, on top of the paper already there, and the printer senses it and pulls in just the envelope. On MS Word, that means by creating an envelope as an add on to the document I've created, I can use just one motion to print the envelope and document right after. I am very impressed and pleased with my purchase.

HP 6500A Set-up Poster
5 Star Review   By Pumpkin80 on HP - Apr 16, 2011

Before purchasing this HP 6500A (E710) Printer, I read several of the Customer Reviews (as you are doing now). I noted some comments about problems with the Set-up/installation process. The Printer is shipped with a "Set-up Poster" which is the only source for installing the Printer. Step 3 of the Set-up Poster addresses establishing Language and country. When the word "English" appeared lite-up on the Display Panel, I assumed that the Printer was shipped to me with a factory default setting of English and I went on to the next step. Wrong! You must press down on the word "English" (or whatever other language is chosen) and follow additional instructions that appear on the panel. If this is not done, the Printer will fail to operate in any succeeding step. (For example: The Ink Carriage will not move in Step 4 and an Alignment Page will not be printed). Step 4 addresses insertion of the Ink Cartridges. Each Ink cartridge has an Orange Lever that must be turned to the right and broken off before the Cartridge is usable. As a first-time user of that type Ink Cartridge, I thought I broke the cartridge when the lever broke off. So the Set-up Poster should have an added remark in step 4c to "break-off & Discard" the lever to aid the first-time user. I addressed both of these Set-up Poster problems to HP Tech Reps and they said they would correct them in the future. The Printer has both USB and Network/Ethernet Cable connections. Be sure your PC will accomodate your choice. Turning off Firewall before installing the Printer is advised. I've only had the Printer for a couple days; So I cannot comment on it's performance yet. But, the little use I have had with it convinces me that I will be satisfied and happy with it.
