The HP LaserJet Pro M1536dnf is a cost-effective, budget-friendly, and environmentally friendly multi-function B&W printer designed for printing, copying, scanning, and faxing. It offers a print speed up to 22ppm, automatic duplexing for printing on both sides and, most importantly, Ethernet connectivity, which means it can be remotely managed via the included software package. Also featured is a 1200dpi scanner, a 26ppm copier, and a 3sec/page fax machine. Good features, install just OK
4 Star Review   By leanone on HP - Jan 14, 2013

Installation was quick and easy except for one thing. I wanted the printer set up for USB (to my desktop) and wireless (for my laptop and other home PCs). Using the provided install package, it wasn't obvious how to do this. Made it work by installing USB, then going back and installing wireless. That seemed to do the trick as it works in both modes now. Printing with the unit is fast. Duplex feature works well. Copy and fax functions operate corrrectly. Noise level is not bad, but then I'm a bit hard of hearing. Printer initialization takes a while (about 45 seconds), but it only needs to happen once a day, so no big deal. My old HP all-in-one had a button I could press to turn the fax "auto answer" on and off. That was a nice feature as the fax shares the home phone line with voice. Now to receive a fax, I need to go in and set the "rings to answer" to 2 or 3 so that voice mail doesn't grab my incoming fax. All-in-all it seems to be a good piece of gear. Time will tell how it holds up.

Great multi-function machine
5 Star Review   By Laurie15 on HP - Jan 14, 2013

I have used all of the features on this multi-function machine and been VERY pleased. The faxes come through in better quality than on my stand-alone fax machine. And it scans much faster than I expected. Another plus, my toner salesman recommended it because the toner for this machine is more economical than other comparable machines. I would definitely recommend this for anyone looking for a multi-function machine.

Outstanding and Great Price
5 Star Review   By GaryMI on HP - Nov 6, 2012

An outstanding multifunction unit. This is one of many HP printers I've had and it's a great value for a mulltifunction device, especially with the easy to use duplexing. I would recommend to anyone. I've had this one for about 4 months with no issues at all.

Good printer for backup.
4 Star Review   By Accounant on HP - Oct 19, 2012

I found the printer easy to set up and network. It has the features I was looking for a moderately used ( secondary ) printer. Good print speed and quality. The only drawback is the "clunking" noise it makes when it grabs the paper. It is a little disarming at times. I would not use this printer as my primary workhorse.

This is a great multifunction printer
4 Star Review   By Kanjan on HP - Sep 12, 2012

I liked it so much, I bought 2 more for the office. It's fast and makes good quality prints and scans. The footprint is acceptable, too. The only thing I don't like is the engine is pretty loud - surprising in the 21st century - but overall, very pleased with the printer.

wouldn't buy again
4 Star Review   By SouthernLight on HP - Jul 18, 2012

Bought this on the recomendation of my son-n-law who owns a small computer business in another state. I have always installed my own computers/printers/hardware without trouble. This machine was a real challenge and I was ready to just box it up and ship it back. I still haven't completed the process. Out of frustration I just quit and walked away, so I don't know if all the features work. I do know it copies and will scan. I would like to be able to connect my netbook wirelessly but taking the effort is more than I want to deal with right now. Do NOT recommend for anyone who wants plug and play because it is not. It is lightweight enough that I could lift it (even with specific directions when I ordered it the delivery man left it directly behind where I would back over it next to my garage door instead of on my covered front porch as instructed~and I was HOME so why he didn't ring the door bell I don't know). The foot print is modest which is handy for smaller offices/spaces. I don't know yet if the double printed page copy works or color copy~haven't figured out the controls~ugh~

Caveat Emptor, Breaks Down Quickly
1 Star Review   By MrPickles13 on HP - Jun 8, 2012

I was initially pleased when I made this purchase. I have relied on HP printers for over 20 years without disappointment. That has changed, as described in this 370 word, more or less, review. For the price it functioned reasonably well at first. I used it at my office as a back-up along with a dedicated fax/printer and another main printer. Therefore it was used lightly, about 100-300 pp per month, sometimes less. After about 18 months (out of warranty) it stopped working. I was on my second toner cartridge. The paper feeder assembly has completely frozen and needs replacement. The cost of the part and service is more than the price of a new printer. My subsequent web based research revealed that a computer repair technician (not HP) disclosed this is a very common problem. Another was a frustrated IT supervisor who made a volume purchase for his company and experienced extremely high failure rates of 30% or more in the first six (6) months. Apparently the replacement part is of the same initial quality and not worth installing even if you do it yourself. This is on par with my experiments with cheap printers from other household name companies. Do your research before you buy. Quality depends on the model and you cannot rely on most brand names or even a high price tag for quality. Wait for a printer that has been on the market for well over one year and spend 30 minutes checking out customer store ratings and blogs that address troubleshooting. Ratings are not always reliable and vary with the person's skill and experience with the product. Most people love their new purchase. Ignore those evaluations unless they discuss significant (and genuine) problems. But time usually tells whether it merits a decent rating. I have a LaserJet 3200se from c. 2000. Quirky, but it worked well for nine years. Built like a Sherman tank. I saved it and will be getting a replacement maintenance kit for that old workhorse. Avoid the shiny, flimsy new stuff and do your homework. (N.B. to HP - This review comports with your terms and conditions. if you edit this review, I will ensure it gets published everywhere else.)

good printer but features can cause problems
3 Star Review   By robert12 on HP - May 23, 2012

Good print speed and quality of print. Network connection works well. If network goes down sometimes have to reinstall print driver . Auto sheet feeder went out one month after warranty expired so limits value of unit . Features are nice but can cause problems such as slow or no scanning on occasions and no sheet feeder at all now. I don't like to purchase extended warranties but that may be the way to go .You use to be able to bank on HP

HP won't allow the word I used.
1 Star Review   By BEG1216 on HP - May 18, 2012

Am in the process today of replacing my ONE-year old 1536. This is a small office...the machine certainly hasn't been overused/overworked...and it is falling apart. We have never been able to receive a fax without pressing "Fax Send" (and yes, it is set to Auto Answer and yes, I did call HP. They blamed Windstream.), so that was the first problem we had with it. About three months ago, the top feeder malfunctioned, so I had to start faxing/scanning from the glass, which is annoying and slow. About two months ago, the fax malfunctioned, so I had to start going to another office to fax. Now the scanner is malfunctioning. The boss said...Throw that machine in the trashcan where it belongs and buy a decent machine. I agree, so I bought a Canon.

Unable to load printer driver
3 Star Review   By Ladybug64 on HP - Apr 9, 2012

Owned printer for about 18 mos, worked reasonably well then stopped. Uninstalled software to reinstall and couldn't. Accessed HP support website, followed suggestions, but attempt to install driver continued to fail. Spent $40 for 1 year phone support, spoke to two different representatives (over three hours) and problem persists. It looks like I'll only get 18 mos out of this printer. If purchasing, extended warranty advised.

Nice unit, poor CD install
4 Star Review   By Peabody on HP - Apr 9, 2012

Like previous reviews, the software CD supplied with the product was rubbish. No matter which CD player I tried it on, it produced a fatal error during the install. For a unit which has been on the market for awhile, I was very surprised. I went to the HP support website and downloaded the software from there, and that worked fine. Installing a (wired) network unit went just fine, which was a pleasant surprise. ePrint is great! Works well and no trouble at all. It was a little difficult knowing how to get to Google cloud printing, but you don't much need it as long as you have the email address. Scan skew is quite poor at times when using the ADF. The design probably needs "something" at the start of the paper path in order to prevent this; no doubt, HP claims the skew is within their spec. It is nice that this monochrome unit scans in color! But, there is no "Scan" button on the unit's control panel. All scanning must be done from a computer with access. I like the "Scan" button on other HP products, you could "Scan to" another computer, a flash device, or to another printer. Overall, this is a very good replacement for the ink-based all-in-1 which it replaced.

Software was very difficult to install. CD that came with printer did not work and had to search for a solution on Google. HP website had no usefull information on my problem. Finally had to download drivers and install from files on computer. Other than that everything works great.

Lesson learned
1 Star Review   By Chris333 on HP - Mar 5, 2012

It is often the case that items offering many services do none of them well. Unfortunately, this is also the case with this multi-function printer. I have used this machine for the past seven months in my private office to supplement the other printers/scanners elsewhere in the company, which is why I was able to overlook most of its flaws until now. First, I noticed that it prints straight about 33% of the time. This is especially noticeable when printing on letterhead. I usually go through two iterations before I finally get an acceptable print. To give an idea, horizontal text will slope up across the page by about 0.5" in the normal case. As there are other printers nearby, I again was able to overlook this as long as I could scan. About a week ago a dark black vertical line appears in the middle of all of my scans. This machine now officially does nothing well. HP whiffed on this one.

So far so good
5 Star Review   By EC94903 on HP - Mar 1, 2012

I can print and scan from my Mac and PC! I love the EPrint too as I often want to print from an iPad. I like the 2 sided printing very much too. The machine is a little loud and clunky sounding which is why it's not a perfect score.

Works extremely well in my Home Network
5 Star Review   By Phinehas on HP - Feb 20, 2012

I installed the HP Laserjet 1536dnf MFP two weeks ago in a small home network, wired and wireless. The included software installed in Windows 7 and Windows 7's Virtual XP without a hitch. The Fax-from-PC software - HP Send Fax - is an excellent app, designed to work exclusively with the HP MFP. HP Scan is fast and accurate with lots of options (the feeder works well also)-I like to scan to file and fax from there with Fax-from-PC software: If the fax fails, it's easy to restart the PC Fax app and not have to re-scan the document, especially if it's lengthy. The HP ToolboxFX that is installed with the software is also excellent. It tracks virtually everything your printer does:, scans, prints, toner, all in great detail (I am a copier tech and I like to be able to keep track of these items!) All-in-all, so far is an excellent unit, an will likely serve my needs quite well.

Better than before...
4 Star Review   By sherwin on HP - Jan 30, 2012

This unit replaced a M1522nf all-in-one that failed after 4 years. That machine functioned reliably until it had a hardware failure. I like the new one even better, it came with an EMF or RFI ring for the power cord...plus I am being promised 30% further coverage for the new laser toner. However, I prefer a better product experience to a better shopping experience, and a printer to last for 7 or 8 years instead of only 4. Also prefer a wireless connection option. It would be nice if the contrast for page face-up and face-down icons were emphasized. These images are translucent grey over a black housing and barely possible to read. This forces some trial and error.

The WiFi connection on this printer is impossible to set up if you are using a Mac. I tried everything. It's supposed to connect via WiFi to your computer as soon as you plug it in - it doesn't connect. The user information you get to set it up doesn't tell you how to set up the WiFi connection, you have to do multiple searches on the web. The Mac set up disk does not work for the latest Mac operating system, you have to download a firmware update. I returned this product. At least that was easy.

HP LaserJet Pro M1536dnf Multifunction Printer
5 Star Review   By Itonilav on HP - Jan 26, 2012

Some difficulty when installing the drivers. Started with the latest version from the HP website which failed to complete 3 times. Next used the supplied CD and this also failed to complete. It was finally completed by telling the program to install each function separately. All works fine now.................

The Scanners junk
3 Star Review   By johnnyjones on HP - Jan 16, 2012

I have purchased 2 of these machines in the last 12 months. The scanner lasted about 6 months each time. The first one stopped being able to pull paper into it to scan. The second one has decided to put a black line down the middle of the page.

So Far So Good, but..
4 Star Review   By mccicag on HP - Dec 29, 2011

This is an attractive multifunction machine. The buttons are grouped nicely with the fax buttons on the left and copy buttons on the right. It is fast and makes an great copy. The only complaint I can even come up with is that the fax/copy feed is noisier than I would have anticipated and if I had a choice I would have made the buttons maybe an opaque white or something to offset the black on black. This might not mean a thing to someone with better vision than me! Overall, I am pleased so far with my 12/2011 purchase.

Excelent HP Product
5 Star Review   By FRANKV on HP - Dec 11, 2011

I replaced my old MFP with HP LaserJet Pro M1536dnf Multifunction Printer, I'm very satisfied with the performance and quality of this device. It prints extremely quick, the footprint is small, it fits on a small table (perfect for small offices). Its looks are pretty nice too! I recommend it.

SUPERIOR ALL-IN-ONE
5 Star Review   By yoyocoocoo on HP - Nov 16, 2011

I just recently got this unit, setup was a breeze, the only gripe I have is all of those annoying strips you have to take off, but I guess that is for a good reason, it is just a pain making sure you got them all. Other then that I have absolutely no complaints with the unit itself, fast, quiet, feature loaded, if you want to do wireless printing with it, just hook it up to your wireless router, and your good to go. I would have to say my favorite feature is the double sided printing. For it's size it is very light, but still compact, just tall. Goes well with all of my other computer equipment.

save on space
4 Star Review   By GoodToGo on HP - Nov 16, 2011

It's nice to get rid of old scanner and fax machines that took up lots of space and less wires under my desk and items to plug in my outlets. A little noisy and a bit slower than my old printer but worth the trade off.

Good Value/Fast
4 Star Review   By Rieba on HP - Nov 2, 2011

This printer is everything I expected. Set up was easy. One thing I dislike is that it cuts off the bottom line of some printouts. This has happened on all of my previous HP printers too.

glad I purchased this one
5 Star Review   By avlisle on HP - Oct 28, 2011

Happy with printer ,it is fast , two sided and so much quieter than my old hp. It will save me on paper and all those cartridges I was using on my photosmart. This is great for my home office. I have only had it for 2 weeks so I cannot reply on the toner but I went through many cartridges quickly on my last printer. It can't be any worse and it should be cheaper in the long run. Setup was a breeze with their great tech support, very helpful and pleasant.

As advertised
5 Star Review   By Druski on HP - Oct 22, 2011

For the price, this printer exceeds all expectations. Fast, functional (fax, print, scan, copy - and does duplex printing), networked (including AirPrint for iPad printing), easy to use. HP could have included a quick setup guide like their other printers. But I got it all set up with a few retries/head scratches. I'm not a "read the manual" from a CD type of person. ePrint is cool, but it says I need to update the firmware, but the firmware is already updated - that's the only problem so far, and I don't really think I'll use it that much so I'm not bothered by it at all.

Wonderful printer
5 Star Review   By static101 on HP - Sep 29, 2011

Replaced a smaller HP LaserJet. Extremely fast first page output. Fairly quiet. Duplexing is awesome. My wife set it up without any help and she would consider herself a computer novice. The scanning tray seems a little flimsy but so far it has not caused any issues. I would recommend this printer.

Great value
4 Star Review   By Car126 on HP - Sep 28, 2011

This MFP replaced an aging Dell MFP. The price was attactive, and I was pleasantly surprised by the bundled software, quick on, and quiet operations of the MFP. Print quality is very good. I use the AirPrint and ePrint center from my iPhone and iPad. The scanner is good for PDF imaging of documents, but only adequate for scanning photographs (my only complaint). The copier is quick without waiting more than a few seconds and the quality is very good. I'd definitely recommend this MFP.

Midsize office use could be expensive
5 Star Review   By Shelia on HP - Sep 28, 2011

I have had this machine for 3 months and so far I am glad I bought it because of the auto feed to scan and copy. Fax is very quick and good quality laser printer. My only comment is this machine could be expensive to run in a midsize office due to the printing costs. Cartridges only yield about 2,000 copies and they are a little expensive to me.

Fast & Easy
5 Star Review   By brawk on HP - Sep 16, 2011

Set-up is easy. AirPrint just works. ePrint takes a few minutes to figure out, but also just works (for the file formats supported). Google Cloud Printing (using ePrint) also just works. The 1st page comes out very quickly. Print quality is as good as any home printer I've owned, and I've owned Epson, HP & Dell laser printers. Special praise for the OCR software that comes with the scanning software (for Windows PCs; I assume it also works on Macs): I scanned some random forms to get an idea of its performance, and it got every character correct, including font, size & position. I was/am blown away. Considering that I got the printer for $199 (after $50 instant rebate & add'l $50 "promo code" on the HP Shopping site), I couldn't be happier. It seems churlish to whine that it doesn't ship with USB or Ethernet cables. The only caveat for this review is that I've only owned it for two weeks, and I haven't tested the fax capability. So far, I am thrilled.

good choice for the money!
4 Star Review   By JenniferWorking on HP - Sep 14, 2011

Bought this to replace an HP LaserJet 3380 that finally saw it's last day. New one isn't as quiet (more tinny/cheap plastic sounding), but works wells. Pros: Paper feeds well, checks feed well, copies are clean, has a nice small footprint and was very simple to set-up & connect to my computer. Cons: When you open the scanner portion, your paper will sometimes "stick" to the lid and slide through the crack at the back. If your printer sits on top of a heavy, filled filing cabinet, it's difficult to catch the sliding paper in time before it is lost forever. I put a large envelope between the printer & the wall, so now I have a little "tray" to catch such pieces.

Amazing value for money!
5 Star Review   By plwyman on HP - Aug 25, 2011

I have owned many HP computers, printers, and scanners over the years. This, however, is my first all-in-one product for home use. I'm astounded. For less than the price of my last Laserjet printer I now have access to two-sided printing, copying (via the automated paperfeed...), a fax machine, and scanning to OCR or file. It's probably a bit more function than I need but I'm not complaining! All the functions work better than I might have imagined. This unit definitely feels like an office machine. It's just more convenient and on a smaller scale, especially the overall footprint. But the functions are truly versatile, the operations are intuitive, and the software interfaces are slick. I never felt lost in the set up process at any point. And I'm pretty old school when it comes to technology. Once you connect to your router via an ethernet cable all your peripheral computers have access. I'm using a plug in AC ethernet adapter to connect to my router in another part of the house and it works just fine. The newer models also have built in WiFi. Had I investigated this option prior to purchase it would have been nice. Live and learn! The ePrint program works great on all my laptops. And unlike network printers I've had in the past the main desktop doesn't have to be up and running in order to print from afar. After all, this unit is centered at your router. You can also hook it up individually via a USB cable if you only have one computer. But with multiple CPU's there's simply no need. Every time I purchase new equipment for my home I am a bit astounded at how much technology your dollar buys. It seems to advance exponentially. So, I'm truly thrilled with the amount of function and versatility of this unit, especially at this price point. I would highly recommend having a look at this or similar HP units if you are in the market for home office or small business equipment. It's a whole new level of access to the sort of machine I formerly associated only with full size business products. Now you can have it all at home for a reasonable price and a minimum amount of space!

AVOID AT ALL COSTS
1 Star Review   By BobinOrlando on HP - Aug 22, 2011

As a 20+ year HP Printer owner and fan, I am completely disappointed with the direction of HP's degraded design and production like this printer proves. Cheap plastic, shoddy packaging, no quick startup manual are just the beginning of the bad experience. Open the scanner lid and the flex cable at the left hinge pops out and jams so you can never close it again. Why? Because HP designers chose cheap sticky tape to mount the flex cable's hinge rather than a plastic clip or something that would not fail during shipment or use. The image quality is fine except the printer ships with a firmware defect that causes misaligned printouts. Why not upgrade the printer before shipment so the customer doesn't have to find out the hard way? Lousy software finishes the disappointment. Buggy, misleading prompts and counterintuitive setup process just adds up to an AVOID rating. This printer was purchased August 19th to replace my 14 month new HP All-in-One M1536dnf LaserJet which failed with a defective formatter circuit board! Two strikes and HP is OUT! My next purchase will be a Cannon MFC. At least Cannons work. Too bad for HP but they earned my disloyalty.

got 2 replacement from HP, still same problem.
3 Star Review   By dickenormous on HP - Aug 2, 2011

I bought this printer for work purpose, it does a great job printing lot of document in a little time, easy plug and play, easily set up over home net work (Ethernet not wifi), does fast copying in good quality, really simple to use high volume faxing. But in the end... the ADF is nothing but problem.. contact HP a few time they were helpful, they quickly send me a replacement unit right away, it works fine for a month, then later the ADF fail again, did all the troubleshoot they provide me but it still fail, it wasn't the roller, it was the spring loaded gears that get loosen over time so they lose contact... Pro: fast, really fast, clean clear text, easy set up over network, cool looking machine, able to send same page of fax to a bunch of different people Con: toner is quite expensive.. ADF roller always nothing but problem, if you print over 200pages the printer itself will overheat and pages will start sticking together.... if the ADF is fix then this printer will be a perfect 5 stars

Great All-In-One
5 Star Review   By BizGuy101 on HP - Jul 4, 2011

Purchased this to replace my 13 yr old Laserjet 3100 mult-function. Prints fast, easy setup. Used the network setup on main desktop with full features and loaded basic setup on other machines/laptops. Small footprint so, it sits on my desk. Print quality is excellent. I did a ton of comparisons and best quality for the price. Nice thing is that it uses standard HP drivers and not 3rd party app. Toner cartridges cost about same as all others, but can use rebuilt ones from reputable office supply for about 40% less. Don't mess with the $14 ones on internet- most likely drill and fill. Highly recommend this printer. Cons: could print a little quieter (but not that bad) and should come with Full toner cartridge instead of the starter

Speedy but lacking
4 Star Review   By ScottV on HP - May 27, 2011

Pros: Speedy Cons: No Scan to e-mail, expensive per page Thought the scanner/printer/fax combo would allow scanning to e-mail as many other HP models do. This one, however, falls short. It requires software on a PC to scan anything. Not so great for a shared network environment where more than one person have to scan and some users have terminals instead of PCs. If you don't mind inkjet I'd suggest the Officejet 8500 series instead. It's less expensive and has many more options. -Scott

Stay Away
1 Star Review   By MPHCPA on HP - Apr 20, 2011

This is the worst MFP I have ever used. I replaced my Brother MFC 7440n because I wantd a faster scanner. The paper feed unit sounds like I have Alvin and the Chipmonks in there. The paper feed (after being cleaned) squeaks. Call up HP support and they are not very helpful. I am trying to return this machine but keep getting bounced around. Guess they need my $$$$. If I have to eat this then I will. They make great printers like my 4014n. No problem with single function machines but not so with MFP.

Easy set up, loud operation
4 Star Review   By genenyc on HP - Mar 11, 2011

Bought from HP and delivered faster than stated. Prints super fast but loud, loud, loud for a laserjet, which is only gripe. Skip manual set up as you could do it through the set up software, which is easy and although the instructions indicated needed an ethernet network on the pc by cable, it connected wirelessly automatically. So, no usb cable no problem so long as connected by ethernet. eprint function works great although it does not immediately print.

Worth every penny!
5 Star Review   By jackielach48 on HP - Feb 25, 2011

I work at a small family office and I used it yesterday for the first time. For the cost, it went above and beyond the call of duty. I faxed 121 pages within a couple of hours while I was copying and printing at the same time. Our thousand dollar all-in-ones never let us multi-task at the same time, ever! The setup was user friendly and I was ready to use in no time at all. Print quality is terrific and the machine is easy to operate. The scanner is equivalent to my expensive one at home. I am crossing my fingers that it lasts more than the 3 years we have been averaging on those thousand dollar all-in-ones from HP! If we can get 2 years out of it we will average $125 per year vs $333 per year for the $1000 ones. Based on a 2 year life span, $125 is $10 a month and you can't even lease a unit that cheap! We are definitely sold on this machine!

Worth it
4 Star Review   By KMOHL on HP - Feb 18, 2011

I purchased this printer to replace my all-in one HP3030 (which works fine, but Win7 does not recognize any of its features except printing). I agree with other reviews as to the noise this makes, and the over-all construction is a bit flimsy. However, the price I paid (half the cost of the HP3030 seven years ago) it is a good value. Perhaps HP could have put a little more money into the construction including some insulation and charged a little more. Overall, the performance, speed, output quality, and features out weigh any negatives. I connected to my wireless router via a cat5 cable. The set-up disc made this an effortless task. My laptop running on Vista and my desktop running on Win7 are able to utilize all of the M1536 features.

Great buy!
5 Star Review   By SEinNV on HP - Feb 12, 2011

My old MFP laser printer has been in need of work for a long time. Rather than spend money on a 4 year old device, I decided to replace it with the 1536dnf. No contest! This printer is faster than the old one, about 2/3 the size, and adds great additional features like duplex printing, built in network or USB connect, and ePrint. The construction seems a bit flimsy and light - if this was a laptop, it would probably be broken in a few hours. But once installed in it's place I won't be moving it around, so I'm sure it will be fine. I haven't had occasion to use the scan feature, but overall it set up easily and has worked great for both Mac and Windows. I have no hesitation in recommending this printer!

AWESOME Buy!
5 Star Review   By Nick0527 on HP - Jan 31, 2011

I am a full time college student and part time employee in the accounting/finance fields. I need to print off large reports frequently and this printer does the job, its quick, efficient, and productive, I can print directly off my Ipad and/or iphone over the network, scan a batch of files and print them out, I can even do double sided print-outs that are VERY quick. It is a little loud, honestly it doesn't bother me it is no louder than an inkjet printer. The quiet mode is a joke. It just changes the tone of the noise, it doesn't really reduce it. Look, bottom line is, if you want something to keep up with you, do an outstanding job, and not break your bank, this is the printer for you. 5 stars no question about it.

DO NOT BUY THIS JUNK
1 Star Review   By ColoradoKaren on HP - Jan 31, 2011

I've bought and installed dozens of printers and scanners. This one (Windows 7 x64) was an absolute nightmare. It's going back tonight. 1. Although HP lists this as WIA and Twain compliant, neither works, and throw errors in HP's scanner diagnostic tool. #FAIL 2. The printer is not compatible with a high yield cartridge. #FAIL 3. In PDF files created from a scan (not scanned from this "machine;" see #1), printing at 600dpi and 1200dpi with the toner saver "feature" enabled REVERSE PRINTS, e.g., black background/white text! #FAIL 4. Clunky, noisy, cheap feeling and sounding. Really embarrassing to run any of the functions in a professional office environment! #FAIL 5. The software install/uninstall is just as gawdawful as ever. My registry is awash in lame HP leftovers; I should charge HP for my time in cleaning up what their developers couldn't write into their uninstall procedures. #FAIL 6. Most of the apps crash, even after a fresh reboot. #FAIL 7. When I did try HP's scan utility, the PDF file it produced was BLANK. #FAIL

SUPER IMPRESSED!!!
5 Star Review   By SMARTIE on HP - Jan 30, 2011

I HAD TO WAIT ABOUT 2 WEEKS FOR THIS PRINTER CAME BACK INTO STOCK AND IT WAS WORTH THE WAIT!!!! I AM STARTING A SMALL AT HOME BUSINESS AND WANTED SOMETHING JUST TO PRINT OUT INVOICES, REPORTS, ETC. SO I CALLED HP TO GET A SUGGESTION OR TWO. I WAS TOLD ABOUT THIS HP 1536 AND ALL OF IT'S FEATURES AND I WAS EXCITED, I WENT OUT AND PURCHASED THE REPLACEMENT TONER BEFORE I RECEIVED THE UNIT. I SET IT UP OVER THE WEEKEND AND IT'S TRULY A MULTIFUNCTION PRINTER. IT'S EASY TO SET UP OUT OF THE BOX AND THE FEATURE'S ARE NON-STOP. THE COMPACT SIZE IS GREAT AND WORKS LIKE A UNIT TWICE IT'S SIZE. WITH THE STARTER TONER THAT CAME WITH THE UNIT SURPRISED THE HECK OUT OF ME, I'VE ALREADY PRINTED OVER 1000 COPIES AND NO SIGN OF RUNNING OUT OF TONER ANYTIME SOON!!!!! THE PAPER FEEDER IS SMOOTH NO PAPER JAMS YET. THIS IS REALLY GOOD ENOUGH TO USE IN A MEDIUM SIZED OFFICE ALSO. I AM 2000% HAPPY, NO REGRETS AT ALL. IF THERE IS ANY PROBLEMS ALWAYS GIVE HP CUSTOMER SERVICE DEPT. AND TECH SUPPORT A CHANCE TO ASSIST. HEWLETT PACKARD STANDS BEHIND ALL OF THERE PRODUCTS AND WILL MAKE EVERYTHING JUST RIGHT!!! OVERALL THIS UNIT IS WORTH THE $299.99 PRICE, LOOK AROUND AND YOU CAN FIND IT ON SALE AND IT'S WORTH THE WAIT. ONE OTHER THING THE TONER MAY SEEM PRICEY, BUT THE AMOUNT OF COPIES YOU CAN MAKE, IT'S REALLY CHEAP AND WILL LAST A LONG TIME. I HOPE YOU WILL BE AS HAPPY AS I AM WITH THIS PRINTER!!!!

Terrific unit!
5 Star Review   By BermudaSchwartz on HP - Dec 22, 2010

It's been a while since I bought an HP Laser Jet, 12 years to be exact, and I only replaced my 2100 because it didn't like modern networking. The 1536 is my first multifunction unit, and they've certainly come a long way since the original units where none of the functions were particularly good. Of course the print quality on this is excellent, and it's fast. Setup on my home network was simple and worked right from the start. But it also copies faithfully, and I was impressed that the scanner was color, even though the printer is b&w. I really don't know what I expected, but I was pleasantly surprised. The driver integrated perfectly with Photoshop, and there's also an HP scanning app. I'm used to heavier printers, and was a little concerned with the lightness of this one. But it performs solidly, and I'm very happy with it. My only complaint is that while it prints nicely on light card stock, the sheets must be fed one or two at a time, the paper supply and bypass slot will jam with more than that. But that's a minor portion of my print jobs, and I can live with it.

Very Experienced MF User Review
5 Star Review   By BobbyK on HP - Nov 10, 2010

I've been using these machines for years, and I have to say... this is the very best MF I have ever had. Instant on scanner - wow, this is fabulous, you don't have to wait around for the bulb or system to warm up, you put your paper on the unit and it scans right away when you push the button. Printer is very fast for this class machine, good resolution. This MF performs exactly as you expect it to, overcoming pretty much everything I don't like about all my previous MF's. Clearly the Best MF EVER in the mainstream class. Beefs: Toner is expensive, I really hate getting gouged by HP on toner. This unit is no exception. You can't get cartridges at Monoprice as of this date. Construction quality is OK although appearance and look of cheap plastic almost stopped me from buying it. If cheaper toner becomes available, there will never be a reason to upgrade this unit...other than maybe styling. Congrats HP, you got this one right!

Best printer ever!
5 Star Review   By Bestbuyever on HP - Oct 24, 2010

This laser printer is one of the best buys that I have got in a while. I need to print about 800 pages a week and the lexmark pro705 did not do the job. It only printed about 50 pages, and did a terrible job. It was a piece of junk. The HP 1536nf did the job!
