Better Than Expected
4 Star Review   By Mark1055 on HP - Oct 11, 2012

This is my first laser printer. Even it is slower than the more expensive models, it is plenty fast for home use. My only gripe is having to scan to a USB port. Even my previous HP 6100c could scan wirelessly to a computer. Everything else is so nice that I can overlook that inconvenience.

Does not meet my expectations
1 Star Review   By Reli on HP - Sep 26, 2012

The copier is slow and not made for an office of 3 people. We've replaced it 4 times under warranties in 1 1/2 years. The feeder at the top keeps breaking. It frequently needs to stop in the middle of copying to clean. We do make about 1500 copies a month, which is the maximum recommended rate. I won't be buying this printer again. I don't know if I'll use HP again, however, the customer service was helpful.

So far so good
4 Star Review   By Rod015 on HP - Sep 20, 2012

I just bought this unit and it hasn't been a month yet. So far the all in one is great. It is a bit slow but compared to other machines, but you cannot beat the color reproduction. I spent a long time in an office store and found a very colorful piece of printed paper to copy. The difference was clearly noticeable. Only problem I can see is the prices of the toner and why all colors are used for black and white printing and copying. I do not know if all printers do this but I can see this getting very expensive. For that reason I still have a mono laser printer for black and white printing, but I still have to use the all in one for copying. Like I said I haven't had this all in one for that long so maybe the cost will not be so bad. I'll have to wait and see

Scanning Is a Pain
4 Star Review   By Alter on HP - Aug 24, 2012

Product works well overall however I do not like the scanning functionality. Scanning requires placing the documents in the feeder and then returning to your computer and launching the scanning application and pressing a button to activate the scanning. You then need to return to the device and retrieve your materials. Other manufacturers have the ability to start scanning from the device and send directly to a specific computer saving a return walk from your desk to retrieve scanned docs.

Good for home office
4 Star Review   By geo1 on HP - Aug 21, 2012

Nice printer/scanner/copier/fax with automatic document feeder. Only dissappointment is that the fax menu on the printer control panel does not have a clear way to attempt to resend 'now' when have a failed transmission. Menu caused me to cancel send when trying to resend now. Using VOIP and faxing does not seem to be compatible. Not the printer's fault and you should verify with your VOIP that they are fax compatible. Many are not. Has separate toner for each color as normal for color laser jets. Inital cost obvioulsy more than comparable ink jets, but we use the printer and especially color so infrequently that ink jet cartridges always dried and failed after having only printed a few pages over time. Laser jet printers do not have this issue, so long term is much less expensive.

Still love it after more than a year
5 Star Review   By Jeniele on HP - Aug 16, 2012

I have now had this product for more than a year after buying it somewhat hesitantly after reading some negative reviews on here (at the time it only had a 3 start review.) However the price was right and I had to upgrade from my HP LaserJet 1100 (after 10 years of service, it's still going strong in my church office connected via parallel) because of a lack of a parallel port on new machines and router and OS drivers. I use it for home and as a homeschooler I feel that I print a great deal more than the average home user. It took me longer to get it out of the box than it did for me to set up. The calibration takes a bit, but it found my wireless network very quickly and I LOVE airprint (just wish I had more print options on that menu, but hey it is only my cell.) The trial cartridges that came with the machine lasted about 6 months which I thought was awesome. I would say I print roughly 8-9 double sided pages a day. The manual duplex has been great once I figured out that you have to rotate the pages when printing PDF files (there's prolly a setting somewhere to prevent this but that works for me, and I just couldn't bear the additional $$ for auto duplex at the time.) The color has been crisp and print quality excellent. One time when printing on cardstock I didn't change the paper type and had one incident of flaking but my paper was old so may have been a moisture issue as well. Other than that quality has been top notch. I highly suggest ordering toner through HP, I always get a discount and most times an additional $10 off with next day ship for less than I've found anywhere. They also have a great recycling program for the used cartridges. Speaking of toner, you can adjust the low-ink setting on this machine to just keep printing even when it thinks it's out and/or print all black. Most other brands I compared did not have this feature and I HATE when a machine decides it's out of ink (when of course it's not) and refuses to print any further. This thing will keep printing until it's bone dry and the pages are faded. I'm cheap with toner.... Last fall there was a firmware update that caused some issue (my machines had difficulty locating the printer a couple times and necessitated re-installing) but haven't had the issue in about 9 mo. In the year and 5 mo I've had it I've gone through one full black cartridge and installed full cartridges to replace the trial ones on the color (they're down about 1/4). I don't feel that this machine is an ink hog as suggested by some reviews. I've printed labels, envelopes, heavy cardstock all with no problems. I've printed transparencies on the related printer at church with great results so I'd say this would do that as well. I can't count the number of times I've had comments on how great my printed items look (odd as it is to comment on the color and quality of someone's spreadsheet but it's definitely noticeable.) Also the toner doesn't run. I'm a Girl Scout leader and print out our cookie tally forms for booth sales. These have been rained on, snowed on, um even sleeted once and never did the toner or colors run. I love to laminate stuff as well and they look great and color-true after heat lamination. I'm particularly confused by the negative reviews that talk about the slowness of the machine. The PPM is listed on the specs page....and honestly I think it's faster than listed. I think these people purchase this expecting a $2000 office machine, and sorry guys you're not getting that for something priced this reasonably. I work on a laptop and by the time I get up from where I'm working the page has almost always been waiting for me. Occasionally it will calibrate, always a pain because of course it decides to do it when you're in a hurry but I chalk that up to Murphy's Law and no fault of the printer. I do leave it on all the time and allow it to hibernate for power save so that may cut down on the calibration, etc. The copier feed works as expected and copies generally turn out nice and straight. I use the scanner tons to convert to PDF on my USB. Have had no issues at all with the USB functionality. You can even adjust the scan resolution and file type. Have printed from USB once of twice. Overall I loved this so much that when my church needed to replace it's elderly copier I came to HP looking for their beefier versions of this and got the one with auto duplex and a 250 sheet tray. That one has been great as well! Get this, you won't be sorry unless you have unrealistic expectations of a $400 printer and expect it to perform like a $2000 one.

Dissapointing
2 Star Review   By scribblez on HP - Aug 5, 2012

I bought this printer after a recommendation from a friend in IT; now after using if for a couple of weeks I must say I'm disappointed. To be fair the printer does have some nice features which work well. The initial set up was a breeze, it connected to my wireless network quickly and the software installed on all my computers easily, and has so far performed as it should. Documents and photos that were scanned came through with accurate colors and good clarity. I was impressed with the quality of the printing, colors were vibrant and lines were crisp. There are many areas where this printer falls short unfortunately. The first is that it is very slow. Somewhere there is an engineer deep within the bowels of HP who dis-likes people who bought this product. The printer goes through a "calibration" regiment very frequently and it takes several minutes; not something I care to suffer through when I'm in a hurry to print my document. I did find a menu hidden in the settings pages that allows you to decrease this frequency from every 15 minutes, which is quite frankly ridiculous, to every hour or never. Even with this set to never it does still calibrate occasionally so that's somewhat misleading. The printing itself, while nice in the end, is very slow. If you are looking for a printer with high ppm look elsewhere. This is meant for the home or home office environment and will not be fast enough to satisfy an office full of people. All of the above problems are something that I could live with, but this device will not receive a fax under any conditions. While there are menus that claim they can detect distinctive ring service, which I have for faxes, this is a lie. No matter what answer mode you set the machine to and what distinctive ring you tell it you have it will not answer the call under any conditions. I found and followed HP's guide to solving fax send/receive problems but to no avail. I need a working fax machine to run my business and this muli-function machine has a main component that doesn't work. So I will be returning this printer and buying something functional.

Does not print on both sides
3 Star Review   By Robin57 on HP - Jul 21, 2012

I could not believe that the double side print function will not work. Now I have to turn the pages every time I want to print front and back. My new business requires that I make lots of booklets. No feature all will have to me manual. I am thinking of returning this printer. It is very slow to print.

Not bad, could be better...
3 Star Review   By drago321 on HP - Jun 8, 2012

Great design, great features etc... I just don't understand why the first page out speed is so slow and why all of the self cleaning. Its like they had this great idea and then were told that they ran out of money and had to use a print engine from a ten year old laser jet. Great value overall, just seems to be using old technology with regards to first page out. Most times at home you are only printing a page or two. I would however recommend this unit and am hoping for newwer model soon that is more robust.

Great printer!!!!
5 Star Review   By drinksguinness on HP - Jun 1, 2012

I replaced an HP photo multi-function deskjet with this because I was going through ink very fast. The color laser prints great and is very nice not having to change ink carts every week. This printer was very easy to setup. I pulled it out of the box and was completely setup in about 15 mins. That included setting up my wireless connection and installing the scanner software. The printer has a nice power save default setting that puts the printer to sleep after about 10 mins of no use, however, it wakes up VERY fast with no delays in printing. Ordered on HP.com and was delivered to my door in about 4 days! Great experience and great printer....thanks HP!!!!

Good printer for the price
5 Star Review   By Anonymous on HP - May 31, 2012

I have always been happy with HP printers. This one replaces a seven year old B&W all-in-one HP Laserjet 3030 that still works great. The printer arrived quickly. The setup was easy. The browser based configuration is very helpful. The color on this is very nice. It feels a little slow per page, but since it's color I suppose that's to be expected. For the price, it's a great printer.

Great printer combo
4 Star Review   By Caperica on HP - May 3, 2012

Fast shipping, easy setup. No problems with wifi set up at all. I love being able to easily print from my iPhone and iPad. Works great with them. The only issue I have is trying to scan from other programs like Photoshop. Says compatible with twaine compliant programs, but so far no dice. If there is a plug in needed, they should provide that, or link to it. Print is very nice. Touch window is a nice feature also.

Worst all in one printer I've ever owned
1 Star Review   By Tuffy on HP - Apr 23, 2012

If this printer had not been purchased in a store 2 hours away I would return it. It constantly pops up that there is a paper jam when there is none, takes forever to initialize, cleans itself more than a cat and is just a pain in every aspect of operation. This is not my first HP printer, but it will be my last.

2 Star Review   By Azen on HP - Apr 20, 2012

Printer is too slow, the machines takes a 20 second break after every 3 prints. It rolls the paper too much. Not a high volume printer not very toner efficient compared to other laserjets. If you print documents that are complex with many pages do not purchase this. Takes about 45 minutes to print 100 sheets. I had to return it and purchase the CP4025dn, which is a very good machine. Not good performance, overheats too fast, is too slow. Very easy setup though.

This is a great product for the home or office. It prints, copies and faxes wothout a problem, and it is quiet. I love it. The touch screen is a great feature, it is simple to setup and get started, everything you need comes in the box. There was only one thing that I didn't like, and that was that there was no user manuel. If you want a users manuel you have to go to the HP website and download one.

HP Laserjet Pro CM1415fnw
5 Star Review   By Techman2go on HP - Apr 6, 2012

Today I printed two pictures to the printer using standard paper and the default settings and they came out great. Better then some photo printers. I think the scanning software could be better. Epson and Kodak have better scanning software. My Ubuntu PC came with Epson compatible software that is easier to uses. HP should look at theirs and see how to make their scanning software better by adding a pre-scan with area selection. You should be able to select the area to scan and not scan the entire image into memory and then have crop it before saving as the HP software does it. However, it is nice to be able to scan multiple pages before a save as the HP software does. I like that feature. I have used HP scanners before and their software has never been as good as others. They can do better and should. The printer was easy to set up and I can print to it from any computer via wi-fi. The direct FAX feature is nice as I did not have that on my other MFP. Overall it is a great printer.

super nice MULTI LASER printer, WOW
5 Star Review   By sunnyt on HP - Apr 6, 2012

After testing several laser printers, I finnaly picked this printer. I have tested several at home then i took them back. Either they were hard to use, due to very small screen, or print was not that good, or it was too slow, ect... I got a great deal for this HP printer at office Max for $279 and unbelivable qulity prints and ease of use due to the LARGE, COLOR, screen. it is SOOOO easy to see and use WOW. Print is unbelivable. Don't take my word, go to office depot of office max and take a large colorfull photo with you and test all brands first and then save the HP for last and see it for your self. It is very nice. I really don't care much for HP ink jet printers( Canon is the best on INK JETS hands down). however, HP laser has to be one of the best out there. I LOVE this laser printer.

A Great All-in-One
5 Star Review   By CharlieM on HP - Mar 20, 2012

I recently purchased the LaserJet Pro CM1415fnw Color MFP to replace my HP LaserJet 2840 MFP which was several years old. I've been very impressed by the speed of the scanner which is instantly ready, vs my old printer which required several seconds for the scanner to warm-up and be ready for use. The print and scan speeds are very acceptable for my home office environment and the footprint is smaller than my previous printer. Color is great. The set-up on my network was easy as was establishing the print link between my iPad and the printer via my wireless router. The only missing feature that would make this a 5-Star rating all around would be a 2nd pull-out paper tray to allow easyloading of a single sheet of media like a letterhead page or a page of checks.

Great first laser printer
4 Star Review   By CoastalIT on HP - Mar 9, 2012

Purchased the printer two weeks ago for light home office use. Got tired of paying for Ink Jet cartridges. So far the printer works as advertised which is very well. It is not a speed demon like the expensive HP laserjets we see in the office but just fine for what we do. Going to try the air port integration soon and see how that works with an IPAD and MAC. Still trying to get the Eprint working through my Symantec endpoint firewall. I feel like that should be automatic in the set up but it is not. B&W and color scanning works great too. I haven't seen slowness in scanning like others have compared to my old ink jet. I am glad that this printer is not all black. i like the white.

Me and my family love it
5 Star Review   By ososX on HP - Mar 8, 2012

After many years of using our old and reliable HP1150 printer together with HP4400 scanner we switched both into this new all-in-one printer. All four of us love it, it is quiet, has a friendly touch screen, worked from the first moment on our mixed environment of XP, WIN7, MAC, iPhones and iPads (the latter through ePrint). Scanning is fast from both the document feeder and the flat bad. Most important is the print quality - just remarkable, both b&w and color. I am so happy with it that I am going to get rid of my awful Samsung CLP-620 printer in the office and replace it with a HP printer that is based on this print technology.

Very happy with this printer!
5 Star Review   By Jimbo301 on HP - Mar 4, 2012

I wanted this printer for a year. It has everything that I'm looking for in a good printer (I just wanted it for casual, at-home printing.) However, I started finding some negative reviews which made me really think about possibly getting something different. I finally made the decision to buy this printer and I am so glad that I did. PROS: * Color printing is fantastic * Scanning is outstanding (option to scan to your computer or flash drive is a nice option to have.) * Copying is great - happy to have my own photocopier! * Faxing - I don't even have a land-line but I have the option to fax in the future if necessary. * Apps - they're all right, but not a deal breaker * ePrint function (send e-mail to printer no matter where in the world you are): This is a really, really cool feature. I've tested it and love that I can do it. I'm just not sure when I will be able to make practical use of it. But it's fun! * Touch Screen: Easy to use, very innovative. * Wireless printing - great since I have another computer in another room. * Energy Star compliant: I was not aware this was a feature on this printer before I bought it. I have it set to power-down after 15 minutes. When I need to print, it turns itself back on. Thanks HP for thinking green! CONS: * Paper tray holds less paper than I would like. I wish I could put a whole ream in there, but will settle for replacing the paper a little more frequently. Not a major drawback by any means. * Setup is a tad cumbersome. To install the software and configure the ePrint took about an hour. However, now that it is set up, I don't have to do it again. I would absolutely recommend this printer to everyone. And I would recommend that anyone ready to buy this printer check out the HP Outlet at HP.com. I saved about 35% which made the whole experience even better. Another great product from HP!

Not up to speed on scans
3 Star Review   By mksinak on HP - Jan 19, 2012

I purchased this unit to replace an old HP fax machine and to consolidate several machines in my office. My VERY old HP Deskjet 825c still runs like a charm and I use it for printing copies of documents that I use for myself. I use this laser printer for documents that I need to send out as the print quality is very good and tends to be more smudge proof, especially when using a highlighter. The unit is fairly large and heavy, but otherwise easy to use. The cartridges are very easy to load and seem to last for several hundreds of pages (although I have no ability to guess how many.) The quality of the printing in both color and B&W is very good and professional looking. The software for the fax, however needs some help. When opening incoming faxes that are saved to the hard drive it tends to chop off the top 1/2" - 1" so it's hard to see the header or know who the fax is from (It may just be a computer setting.) My biggest complaint, however is the scanning output. As far as I am concerned, scans do not reproduce well. In EVERY case where I have scanned either a photo, color or B&W document, I have discarded it to the trash bin and rescanned it with my Canon Canoscan 8000F which gives me a true scan that looks very much like the original. Granted, this HP LaserJet is not a photo printer or a photo scanner and should not be expected to preform like one. However, in scanning a simple B&W document, it fails miserably - in my opinion. Additionally, there is no way to scan from the touchpad (which is really nice, by the way) unless you scan to a thumb drive - you have to scan from the computer. Aside from the scanning issue (which is a big issue with me anyway) this is a very nice printer, beefy, well built and should preform well if all you really want to do is copy, print & fax. If you want to scan, you should test drive the scanning output at an Office Depot or Office Max to see the results before you buy the unit. You may be very happy with the output, but I'm not.

The reviews I read told me that it was slow to print but it was not as slow as expected. Very easy to set up... AirPrint and ePrint features are awesome. The color might tend to be on the dark side but with a little adjusting I got it dialed in. The touch screen makes use a dream... I wish at all my printed had one. Good job HP. The web apps as fun and my kids love to coloring pages. Overall very good printed. Maybe wish it had two paper trays but for the price I'm very impressed.

Painfully Slow
3 Star Review   By NeedSpeed on HP - Jan 7, 2012

This looked like a great solution for my home office. I wanted to replace two older HP printers with this color all-in-one printer. I also wanted Apple AirPlay compatibility. This machine is too slow for me at 4 pages per minute in color. Also, the printer comes with "Introductory" toner cartridges which only have half the capacity of the replacement ones. Not pleased with the printer at all. HP, please add airplay to your faster printers and I will buy one! Thanks.

5 Star Review   By buenology on HP - Dec 30, 2011

1st time laser jet printer purchaser, and was very impressed with the style and functions. This machine is mainly used by my wife who's a school teacher and it really helps her with color copies, etc. There's many features here, but I plan to use them all when the time comes. In my honest opinion, it's a great investment and it does it all. Way to go H.P! =) -P.S- I've had this Laser Jet for 2 months now!

Most useful features I have ever found !!
5 Star Review   By TeeJeyH on HP - Dec 27, 2011

I have tried every feature available and every one of them works flawlessly. (even my daughter was able to print directly from her ipod touch). I have seen reviews about the speed of printing ...forget about it ! It is plently fast enough, and the competition hasn't even come close to the eprint features. The only heads up I woud give are these: Take your time following the instructions and assembly (to the letter will give you a pain free set up). Wireless network is a fantastic way to utilize all the features throughout your home. Upgrade firmware and ipod, ipad, iphone etc. software/firmware. Setup eprint and enjoy the apps and features.

Great value
5 Star Review   By JYoung on HP - Dec 27, 2011

I've used three other laser printers over the past 3 years my last also being an HP. I went with HP because the printers seemed to work really well with Macs unlike many of the other manufacturers. I use a late model iMac that runs OSX 10.7 as well as an iPad2 and an iPhone4S. It was SUCH an easy integration with the OS on every device. I had no issues getting it up and going as my OS had everything I needed to make it work without even installing software or drivers. Multipage scanning into PDF's was a breeze. Some days the printer sees no usage, other days I'll print off 100+ sheets of legal documents a day and scan more than 200. I haven't had it long but it seems to do this with ease. I haven't yet found a way to get the printer to make the PDF files smaller so I have to do that through Adobe Acrobat Pro. I would not recommend this printer for photos. The colour is too vivid and the photos are not crisp. Suffice to say get an ink jet if that's important to you. I do wish it could hold more paper, I do wish I could make the PDF files a bit smaller in the printer (maybe I can but don't know how), and lastly... I do wish it was a bit faster when printing larger files but at the end of the day it does what I need it to do, it does it all well, and for the price I am VERY satisfied with this choice. Great product.

Nice upgrade
5 Star Review   By MtnDog on HP - Dec 22, 2011

We upgraded our 8 year old HP PSC 2175 All In One with this Laserjet and couldn't be more pleased. The wireless printing worked instantly with only a button push on the router to set it up. The pages are sharp and the color is fantastic. The scanner is very accurate and much faster than the old printer. The software driving it is also friendly and easy to understand. Great product, HP; especially given how much the price for color lasers has come down in the last few years.

Not Bad
4 Star Review   By Yammy on HP - Dec 17, 2011

I got this because I was interested in a laser printer since ink is SO expensive. So far, I haven't been let down, but I've only had it for a couple of weeks. As far as speed is concerned, it's not a FAST printer. Don't get me wrong, it's a LOT faster than inkjet printers, but it won't beat other laser-jets in a race. For most home use, it will be fine. If you use it in the office, but aren't the kind of person to race to the printer immediately after you print, you'll be fine. I can understand where some people would complain about this printer if they are heavy office users, but home users will be satisfied. As far as the toner usage goes, I am pleasantly surprised. This printer uses a 2,000-page toner cartridge for black, but the starter cartridge said that it is only a 750-page toner cartridge. So far I've printed 112 pages and it says that I have 90% left. At this pace, I'll get over 1,100 pages on this starter cartridge. I hope this bodes well for the full cartridge when I get it. As far as the color cartridges are concerned, they are also starter cartridges of 750 pages. (The normal rating for color cartridges is 1,300 pages). So far I have used 29 pages of the color cartridges and they still show 100% left remaining. As far as quality is concerned, you just can't match a laser printer when printing documents. The blacks are black, and the colors are very rich. That's for text documents and graphs. However, when it comes to reproducing pictures, like all laser-jets that I've seen, it's not my first choice. On both regular and photo paper, the prints come out over-saturated with color (personal preference thing), but also slightly grainy. To the printer's defense, I didn't play with any of the photo settings. If I did play with the settings, I probably could get a slightly better print, but I don't hold out much hope for that. My opinion is that you just cannot get inkjet quality photo prints with a laser-jet. This printer comes with some neat features and some I wish it had. For one, it is a very simple straightforward printer, very easy to figure out. It has a touch screen display, but don't let that intimidate you; the menus are very easy on it. The scanner scans VERY fast. Networking it was very easy and now my wife can print from her laptop in the other room. The e-print function is great, but I wonder how much I'll use it. It's one of those features that you may not need much, but when you need it, you NEED it. It allows you to print from anywhere in the world. As long as you leave the printer, your network, and your internet connection on and hooked up, it will print anything that you send to it. The way it works is that the printer will get a unique email address and if you email to that address, it will print the attachments (but they can only be pdf, jpg, tif, Word, Excel, or PowerPoint docs). The body of the email will print first (sort of like a cover page on a fax), but you have no control over how the formatting of the body of the email will print out. When copying, you can make a copy from the scanner glass or from the top tray. If you use the top tray, you can load up to 35 sheets at a time for copying. Replacing the toner cartridge is VERY quick and VERY, VERY easy. You just open up the front, pull out the tray and lift the toner cartridge straight out, that simple. One feature that I really wish it had was that I wish I could load up to 35 sheets in the top tray and have it run all those through and SCAN them into the computer. That would save me a ton of time. But it can't and you have to load scans one scan at a time using the scanner glass. Another thing I wish it had is a larger paper holder. I wish it would hold at least 250 pages instead of 150, but that's a minor thing. One thing that I don't mind, but you may find annoying is that when you want to print an envelope or a small picture, you have to take all of the paper out, load your envelope or picture paper, readjust the side paper holders, print your envelope or picture then readjust you paper holders back and reload your paper back again. I don't print enough pictures or envelopes to make this an issue for me, but you might. Comparing it to my old printer, on the old printer I only had to place the envelope on top of the printing paper and my printer would make the adjustments. I can't tell you about the fax function because I don't use the fax function at all. You are on your own for that one. Also, it has a USB port in the front for scanning to a thumb drive or card reader and pulling things off of a thumb drive or card reader. I haven't used this feature yet, but I don't think I will have much problems with those. Size-wise, it is not a monster like most laser printers can be. As far as its footprint and its height, both are only marginally bigger than most inkjet printers. That really is all there is to this printer. That's the whole deal. You have to make your decision based on the amount and kind of prints you make. For me, it's perfect because I print almost exclusively text and graph documents. I print a lot and need the savings on toner over ink. I didn't want it taking up too much space on my printer stand and I needed it to connect wirelessly. Since I don't do much of the other stuff, it suits me fine.

VERY MEDIOCRE PRODUCT
3 Star Review   By clemny on HP - Nov 16, 2011

I just got HP 1415 MFP Color laser. I originally bought the HP 2320, which I loved. HOWEVER, the 2320 was very heavy and really needs a free standing table so you can access the rear of unit to remove paper jams. I returned it and got the 1415-- a little lighter, BUT: 1--there is no envelope feeder, so one must remove all paper and then adjust paper guides to feed envelopes into the single feeder. 2--it is very slow and needs to reset itself constantly 3--you cannot print individual fax reports. Either print ALL fax reports or NO fax reports. A very bad feature. All in all, a very mediocre machine. My last HP had been the HP 3030 black laser MFP which was fabulous, easy to operate, to fix and to pull jammed pages. It was totally superior to the 1415. I shouldn't have given it away!!!! The 3030 did the 3 things above that the 1415 does not do!

Horribly slow
1 Star Review   By JasonLovesHPbut on HP - Nov 6, 2011

I've owned MANY HP printers over the years. And have had no complaints. Will pick HP over any other. However, this printer is incredibly slow to start printing. Constantly has to "clean" itself which only takes cycle time. And then if it jams, it has to initialize which also is incredibly slow. Paper tray is too small. No manual feed for envelopes! I would love to send it back. Price point is good, but pick a lower or higher model.

very slow
2 Star Review   By bikeguy40 on HP - Nov 1, 2011

this printer is unusable for business due to the long wait time to print. The scanner works well, the unit has to be within reach- as thier is no button at the machine to scan- scanner functions are controlled from your keyboard. The colors from the machine are great for printing. I tried to fax a few documents & got caught in the auto feeder. Luckily, I have a dell 1815- that prints 5000 copies on 1 toner for $89, faxes & prints super fast- want to say 45 pages a minute. Dell offers no free support when I needed the upgraded drivers. This unit works really well for high quality color printing- surprised at the other "common sense" issues with the machine-mostly just very slow. I would have purchased another dell- just no support on the windows 7 is unacceptable. HP has a free diagnosis analzer that worked well- when the print function had numerous jobs stuck in the quue.

Replaced my 1.5 year old Lexmark multifunction color laser (x502n). I print for business and some photos, I use the fax function, but don't really every use scanner capability. I use both macs and PCs in the house and office. The Good: *it worked right out of the box...unlike many other printers I've had, the set up of the hardware and software was a breeze. I plugged it in, it automatically found my wireless network and both the Apple and HP computers in my house automatically found it and loaded the drivers (I didn't have to even load the software which came in the box...it automatically downloaded the exact driver (sans bloatware) from the web.) *it has a slightly smaller form factor as compared to the Lexmark and other brands I've had. *as compared to the Lexmark it is very quite while printing, and after printing it goes into quiet/sleep mode faster and better *Ink color is vivid and photos look good *the fax works great - (several multifunction printers I've had seem to jam when you use a DSL fax/phone line for some reason but not this one) *i really like the color touch screen interface. Most other printers i've had have confusing push button interfaces but this one has very intuitive icons which carefully guide you to whatever you want (again, very much like Apple). The Bad: *small paper tray (only a couple of hundred pages) *it's about a 1/3 slower than the Lexmark but much faster than a inkjet printer. *relatively smaller toner cartridges which print abut 600 pages...but again, the HP new replacement toner cartridges run ~$50 per cartridge ($200 for all four colors) which is less than 1/2 of what the Lexmark's ran - and they printed about 1500 pages - so I view it as a wash)

nice upgrade from the 1020 b&w
5 Star Review   By gnh62 on HP - Oct 28, 2011

I appreciated the 2 -3 hours free phone help from HP to install & setup. 1st printing project turned out 99% perfect , as only 1 page had to be redone , due to a blotch mark. It is great that the cleaning operates automatically. I thought that this model would print out faster than my old obsolete 1020 laser printer....but it is much slower. But the clearer & better results are worth the slow speed. Colors are excellent. Legal size paper can be used as well. I am impressed that all kinds of various heavy papers can be used without any troubles to the roller. So nice to have received a real 1/2 Irish deal at Staples yesterday on this All-in-1 : $200 off / Free $90 Canon Camera !

Laserjet cm1415fnw
3 Star Review   By Herbtrin on HP - Oct 23, 2011

Great printer very slow. If you have uverse digital phone service the fax does not receive, and HP answer is faxes are not popular any longer then why make a printer that is not compatible. Toner is very expensive. NEEDS TO BE IMPROVED IN THESE AREAS!

Very concise and too the point - The HP 1415 is as good as any competitor's product that would cost twice as much (if not more) than the HP 1415.

Better Than Expected
5 Star Review   By BGMan2 on HP - Oct 19, 2011

I have been using HP Pritners for 20 years and this is by far, the best machine I have ever purchaed. I only owned this for a short time, but tt by far exceeded my expedations. The Printer was purchased directly from HP. Had good pricing with coupons. Exremely easy setup, even though the instructions could be a lillte better to understand. I am computer savy, so I easily undestood the hookup. I was pleasently surprised at the print quality. It was awesome that I can now print my Laptop, Phone and IPad to the printer. It is a litllte slow, but I can live with it for the price. The cartridges does not seem that expenseive. Time will determine the overall cost of the printous. Right Now, I am very pleased.with the estimated cost per copy. I will be using at my home office wireless and my shoolkids will have access to the use of the machine. It should work out like a champ.

Best Printer I Have Ever Used in 30+ Years
5 Star Review   By Sbradfor on HP - Oct 16, 2011

I've been using computers since the early days of the Apple II. In that time, I've used a wide variety of printers. Everything from teletype based devices, to dot matrix, to inkjets and lasers. Some have been great and some terrible, with many in between. In that time, I have never had a printer that I've liked as much as this one, and that is really saying something. It just does everything I want and it does it well. Some have mentioned that it doesn't print envelopes well. I don't use mine for envelopes at all, so I can't comment on that one way or the other. That just isn't a need I have. If you do have a need for an envelope printer, proceed carefully and make sure any printer you get can do this well. It can be tricky to get a good envelope printer as many printers have struggled with this (though there are several that are quite good at it). I should note that this is my first All-In-One(AIO), meaning it prints, scans, copies, and faxes. These are sometimes referred to as multifunction printers (MFPs) too. For years I had shied away from AIOs because you could never get the best printer and the best scanner and the best software all rolled into one device and also because if you lost one device, you lost them all. In the last five years or so, I had noticed that these devices were getting much better, but I didn't want one that was inkjet based (due to the higher costs per page of inkjets) so I waited. When this AIO came out, I finally decided to give them a try. I have to say, I was very impressed with how well it worked and really like the space savings I have now that I don't have to have a printer and a scanner separately. Pros: +Fantastic color output. It really rivals most inkjets. I've owned several color lasers and this one is far better than any others I have used (Samsung, Konica-Minolta, Brother, HP). +Great on-screen color menu that is very easy to use. +Clean design. I looked long and hard at the Brother AIOs, but really didn't like their (or HP's higher end AIO models) due to their old fashioned hard button design. They had dedicated buttons. I much prefer the big color display on this model. +Low power consumption in idle mode. +Fast print speeds. Some have complained about how slow this printer prints, but there are some things that they may not be taking into account. This printer in idle mode only uses about 3 watts of power (I measured this using my kill a watt meter). This is very low, even for idle mode and means I can keep my printer on at all times. This is especially important for wireless devices, because why bother with wireless if you have to get up and go turn it on just to use it? You might as well plug a cord in at that point. The first page does take awhile to print. I timed mine on several first page prints and it averaged around 30 - 35 seconds. Subsequent pages printed very fast. So you might be wondering why does the first page take so long? It is because this printer uses a lower power idle mode. This means that if you leave it on like I like to do, it will barely cost you any money. It also means that the first page of any document you print will take about half a minute, but subsequent pages will print quickly. So you decide if you like this or not. I do. I much prefer it this way. Others may not. Sadly you can't set this option in the software or on the printer. +Ability to print from any computer anywhere on the Internet. With this printer you can setup an email address for the printer and then email documents to that address for printing (including pictures). They will print immediately if the printer is on and if it is off, they will print the next time you turn it on. I really like this feature. It just works and works well. +Sheet feeder. The sheet feeder works well on this device and works with a variety of sizes. Like I said before, I haven't tried envelopes, so I don't know how well it works for those. +Output tray. I really like the design of the output tray. A lot of printers use those flimsy output trays that dump everything at the top on some sort of cheap plastic sleeve sticking out that can easily break off. This printer outputs printed documents into an ample slot under the scanner. It is simple and effective. +Driver installation. The drivers were incredibly easy to install on all of my computers. I run Windows 7 64bit on most of my PCs but I also run XP Pro and Vista on a few including a notebook. The drivers were incredibly easy to install and wifi was very easy to setup. In fact, it was the easiest installation for a wifi printer that I've ever had. +Minimal design of drivers. I really hate drivers that pop up all the time taking over my computer just to blare at me what they are doing, like a spoiled child. The HP drivers for this printer alert you that they are doing their job when you print something, but with minimal impact on what you are doing on your computer and they leave a pretty small footprint (meaning they don't take up a lot of resources). +Ease of changing toner cartridges. For this printer, there is an easy to open door on the front. You can easily swap out old toner cartridges for new ones. I've had several other printers where it is the back and you have to move stuff around and clean off your desk just to switch cartridges or pry them loose. This one is a breeze! +Can fax, scan, or copy multiple pages easily. +Quite. This is the quietest color laser I've owned. My old Konica sounded like it had a cat hidden inside trying to escape. This one will make noise once in awhile to calibrate, but in idle mode it is silent. When it prints it is relatively quiet. This is a big plus to me because I hate noise. +Wireless. This is not HPs highest AIO, but it is the best wireless AIO they offer. I just love having wireless for my printer/scanner/copy/fax device. +Web connectivity is really cool. There are many apps you can download to the printer so you can print out your favorite newspaper, calendar, games for the kids, etc. These apps work well. I'm sure there are other pros, but those are all I can think of right now. Cons: -Kind of big. My last color laser was a Samsung that was very small, no bigger than the smallest monochrome lasers. It suffered from poor print quality and was not an All-In-One (AIO) like this one. Having the scanner on top does add to the size. The toner cartridges were hard to replace on the Samsung too. I wouldn't describe this printer as huge, but it is tall. Be sure it will fit where you want to put it before buying. -Manual duplex only. There is driver support, but you have to do it by hand. -Small paper tray. It holds 150 pages. There are several models that hold 250. For me this isn't a big issue, but if you do a lot of printing, it might be. -Scanner software is limited. As with any multifunction device, there will be issues with something. The weakness of this one in my opinion is the scanner software. It doesn't have many options and you can't use the touch menu controls to scan to your PC. This could be better. -Pricey. It lists for $450. Mine cost $375 on sale and you can now get it as low as $350 some places, which is much better. Amazon needs to lower their price to be competitive. This printer does support the Mac OS, but I haven't tried it with a Mac. Overall, I am very happy with this printer. I like it so much I wish my old Konica I use in my classroom would die, so I could replace it with one of these like I have at home. It is by far the best printer I have ever used.

Good printer
4 Star Review   By TripleA0 on HP - Oct 11, 2011

For the cost of the printer you get a good quality product! Printing and scanning through Wireless-LAN has never been as reliable as with this printer. The HP ePrint service and Google Cloud Print are a real benefit to my life! The cost of toner cartridges is still quite high, and I really miss the duplex printing and scanning! Did you notice, that there is still no affordable duplex color laser MFP which offers Wireless-LAN? HP, please work on that!

Great value
4 Star Review   By SKAY123 on HP - Oct 1, 2011

So I've gone through a couple of inkjet all in ones with a couple of different manufacturers over the past couple of years and end up at a point where I need ink refills basically on all cartridges and really look long and hard at the cost of replacing all ink or getting new unit. I finally decided to get color laser for our home/office. Taking into account the cost of ink on the old one, and the contract price I get through my company, this was a total no brainer from a cost perspective. I work from home, and my wife has small business from home and we have general need for printer and fax...high quality and color is a bonus nice to have. I had read negative reviews on color laser all in ones from all manufacturers and was concerned that I would basically get a piece of junk...well I was pleasantly surprised. Setup and installation was easy (especially fax with answering machine) and wireless works great. Print quality is good and the touch screen menu is awesome. We don't do high volume stuff, so the print speed is fine for our use. The only thing I wish it had was scan to computer from unit. You can do it but it has to initiate from computer. I guess true duplex printing would be a plus but we would rarely use it. I would definitely recommend this printer to someone with a small home office/business.

5 Star Review   By mkwithgreys on HP - Sep 23, 2011

I have been VERY happy with the MFP - I had read some reviews that were not positive about this model but I decided to try it anyway. I'm happy I did. I haven't had any problems that others described about the product - apparently HP fixed those difficulties because it has worked like a charm since I got it about 3 weeks ago. I'd recommend it to anyone. The only drawback is that toner cartridges are somewhat high :-(.

WORST PURCHASE
1 Star Review   By ELVA on HP - Sep 10, 2011

This is my fourth Hewlett Packard printer and I'm very disappointed. It's noisey, slow and keeps calibrating when I need to print. I also don't like the scanning to a stick and then transferring the data to the computer. For the price, it's not worth the money. Don't buy this.

My previous Fax Printer was a HP 3050 and I was expecting something a lot better, because is 4 year more newer. But nothing of this, you can't print envelopes or you have to remove the paper loaded before do that. Also is not faster than the 3050 - en another words : for office job is not good. I would like to have a 3050 again but was dicontinued

1 Star Review   By ericb on HP - Aug 3, 2011

The print quality is fine. However, the printer is very slow for what it cost, about $450. It is rated at 12 pages /minutes but does not run that fast. It does not print more than a few pages without pausing. I print some documents that are 50 pages or more. I have a Brother all-in-one at home that will print 50 pages without pausing. When I installed the printer I was able to scan to my hard drive. Now I can only scan to the USB port on the printer. I have been trying to locate the manual for this printer on line but there does not appear to be one. There is a users guide for the cm1410 but every time I try to open it I get a message that there is an error with the document. The black toner cartridge is rated for only 2000 pages which means a new cartridge quite frequently. Staples and HP had a "rebate" where I was to receive coupons worth $240 toward toner cartridges. Well, what I received were $10 coupons, each good during a one week period. The first one was already expired. Now how many of us actually purchase a new cartridge every week? These coupons will end up saving me $40-$80 at most.

Worth every $
5 Star Review   By Omoishiroi on HP - Jul 16, 2011

for many years I have bought cheaper inkjet or b/w laser printers. They tend to break down or suffer technical quirks. This printer cost me just a bit more but the build quality and the user interface is far superior. I use macs and pc's on my home network and it works great with both for printing and scanning.

Cannot scan directly to iPad
3 Star Review   By Hamdan on HP - Jul 10, 2011

This is an awesome laserjet but there's one thing I cannot get over: It will not scan directly to my iPad. It shouldn't be that hard for HP to add this capacity to this printer, so I'm waiting for that to happen.

A Fax Nightmare
2 Star Review   By feetdontfailme on HP - Jul 5, 2011

It is a nice looking device, and the touch screen is very nice and works well. The printing quality is pretty good, though the small (2000 page) cartridges make it a pricey color printer to operate. It and any related printers from HP are the worst FAX devices that I have ever dealt with. It is used in an office with about 20 people, and has a very nasty, and as yet unresolved, problem: it will 'initialize' (read reboot) when someone tries to send a fax, requiring someone to stand there for this process to finish so that they can either send their fax, or make sure that they don't have to try again to send their fax. This is an issue that I had with the 1536dn that this replaced. The ability to set speed dials via a computer instead of by hand is not worth this extreme hassle in a business environment for a function that is supposed to speed up people's work. If I wanted to require people to spend the amount of time to fax items when this happens, I would have them scan items and email them for those vendors for whom that might work. Also, be prepared not to use the full transmission speed of this machine and to turn off error correction if you want to receive and send faxes well. If you don't need fax capabilities, then this machine might work well for you.

Real nice printer but
5 Star Review   By beh49 on HP - Jun 16, 2011

This is the latest of many HP printers I have owned for both home and my business over the years. Has great features but I have been unable to get it to print from my internet pages. Old guy not great with computers. E-mailed HP for help but other than an auto response have not heard from them in over a week. Never had any problems with the many other HPs I've owned in terms of getting it set up. Prints fine from computer but not from my internet, eg. emails.

Eats Up Color Toner even for B&W
2 Star Review   By Royalnonesuch on HP - Apr 24, 2011

A bit slow on the first page, which I can live with. The horrible thing about this printer is that it goes through color ink when printing in B&W. I bought this thinking I would use it for the occasional color print, but I noticed I had no more color left. I have since found out that it uses color toner to print a "true" black. I've tried changing different settings to no avail. I wouldn't have bought it had I known.

Exellant Printer!
5 Star Review   By mgilly on HP - Apr 22, 2011

Ordered on-line and received in two days - great service! Set up was quite easy (i.e. it took longer to remove from the box than to hard wire it to my network). Software download takes a little time - about an hour on my system. This printer is being used at my office to augment an HP 2200. I bought it for the color and copier capabilities. Print quality is excellant. Print speed is a little slow, but quite acceptable. I switch between the two printers as need-ed;the 2200 for black only and larger volume and the 1415 for color or doc- uments for clients. This is not a small printer, so plan accordingly (17.5" L x 16.5" W x16.5" H). I have a large office so it fits in very well, but in a smaller home 'computer' room its size could be an issue. Replacement cartridges are reasonaby priced and HP product quality (reliability/durability) is high. This is an exceptional printer/copier for the money. If you are looking for a multi-function printer I highly recomment this unit.

Wanted a laser color printer for awhile but I had a all in one hp 3200 series for about 5 years with no problems and another color printer so I had to get rid of one so gave the hp to my grand-daughter which made her happy and purchased this all in one which was so easy to set up by just following the installation and the promps on the cd (about one hour). I run XP and did not have any problems to use the printer as a wireless printer. Ran some color pictures but had to lighten it a little with another program that I have first and it came out beautiful. HP said delivery in 5-7 days and it took 5 days.

Good value for the money
5 Star Review   By valmar on HP - Apr 7, 2011

I have had a number of HP printers over the years, mostly inkjet ones, and have always found them to be of good quality. This one is no exception. Setup on both my iMac and my HP Windows Vista laptop were very easy, and the wireless setup was very simple to achieve. I did initially have to physically connect the printer to my iMac by USB in order for it to be found on the network, but after that was able to connect wirelessly. Printing was initially slow, but after downloading and installing new firmware to run ePrint it now seems faster. EPrint is excellent upgrade! The footprint is large, but as long as it works and lasts who cares?

Good printer for its price
4 Star Review   By orooroneko on HP - Mar 7, 2011

I'm a graduate student and I bought mine during the previous sale. Overall its a good printer for its price. Its a COLOR laser multifunction printer, and the print quality is very good. Installation (hookup, ethernet connection, wireless, and e-print) was quick and painless. Eprint setup needs to be done AFTER you install the initial software, because it is an additional installation that will overwrite the firmware in the printer, but it is quite fast and easy. I do not have a land line so I have yet to use the fax. My only gripe about the printer is that it goes into calibration mode a couple times a day and that it takes a while for a job to start printing once it gets sent to the printer. Also, the printing speed reminds me of older gen inkjet printers (12ppm b/w, 8 ppm color). That is quite slow if you need to print a 50+ document in color. If you are doing heavy volume printer, get a faster printer. If not, leave a puzzle to tinker with while you wait. Help passes time. Overall, very good printer. Worth ~$300 price. Not worth full price. Would suggest it for people who does not do high volume printing.

So Far, So Good
4 Star Review   By RPDowds on HP - Mar 6, 2011

Over time, I've had a wide range of HP products at my office, and they ... Never. Break. Ever. This unit was bought for home use, so speed, volume, and multi-party sharing are not big issues. The Mac OSX / Airport Extreme install was dead simple, once I quit improvising and instead did exactly as instructed. Currently, the wireless connection is reliable, the operations are flawless, and the output quality is very high. (Not the quality of my photo-realistic Canon inkjet printer, of course, but that's not why I bought this.) So, if it lasts even five years, this machine will be a fabulous bargain. If it follows in the HP tradition, it will outlive me.

Great printer for the price using OSX
5 Star Review   By Clipse2d on HP - Feb 25, 2011

I'm using this on 2 machines running OSX 10.6. I have to say this was the easiest setup I have ever done, using this completely wireless. I didn't use the cd's the printer came with, I went straight to support.hp.com to download the newest drivers and software. (I also had a firmware update available) Through the software install, It walks you through everything step by step. Within 4 minutes, I had this printing on my desktop and laptop through my wireless router for both machines. This also works with air print for your ipod, iphone, and ipad. For the price and quality I don't think I'll ever go back to a inkjet again! Ohh by the way this thing is a tank. I read that in another review and I see what that dude is talking about. This is at least double the size of my old HP photosmart.

5 Star Review   By weldman1 on HP - Feb 13, 2011

Printer is more than I expected, print speed is also faster I than expected. Also, quality of print is also very good if you use the right paper. As far as being noisy, if your in a dorm maybe if someone is sleeping other than that it is quit quiet. Features are plenty for the money. Double sided printing isn't as hard as these reviews say, need a brain that's all. Might take you a whole minute to figure out. Going to try pics with the laserjet photo paper. Enjoy

Excellent Value
5 Star Review   By EduMan on HP - Feb 6, 2011

I am a high school administrator and parent of a college freshman. We run four Toshiba laptops (Windows Vista 32 bit,Windows Vista 64 bit, Windows 7 64 bit), HP laptop (windows 7 64 bit) and an HP desktop (Windows Vista 32 bit). I was employing a Samsung CLX-3160FN color laser (all-in-one) for the HP desktop and an OKI C5200ne color laser for wireless printing. Both were pricy to begin with and pricy to operate (expensive toner cartridges). Very recently the OKI would not function wirelessly with Windows 7 (most frequently used laptops) and the Samsung had an internal malfunction where it would not recognize a new cyan toner cartridge and stopped printing all together. No local repair facilities in the North East. I positively needed a wireless color all-in-one laser which would support Windows 7 64 bit operating systems. My research led me to the LaserJest Pro CM1415fnw color MFP which met all of my requirements, including a small footprint for my home workstation. I ordered it directly from HP, taking advantage of the competitive price, free financing, and free shipping. It arrived in a few days and installed flawlessly and easily. I like it so much I may purchase another one to replace the Samsung and connect it to my HP desktop. It is an excellent value and meets or exceeds my needs!

Printer is very easy to setup and is compatible with many cameras via USB, such as Sony, Cannon, HP, Olympus, Pentax, Nikno, and etc. (except for the Kodak type cameras, such as the Z981). The wired and wireless networking is solid. The printing is a little slow, but the printing has sped up after upgrading the printer’s firmware. The scanning and copying is very good and the feeding tray has not jammed yet. Overall, this is a very good printer for the money. would like a bigger paper tray.

Printer does not print what is in the Que
1 Star Review   By Samson2 on HP - Jan 26, 2011

Had a nightmare of a time getting this printer (second of the same model) to set up wirelessly. Once I solved my connectivity issues, printer still would not print what is in the que. The que reads that your document is printing, when in fact the printer is not printing. First one I ordered, it printed wet ink down the full right side of page, then the toner started leaking from underneath printer. I returned that one. The second printer of the same model they sent, was fine with the toner, but I had a terrible time setting up wireless connection. Purchased brand new wireless router for a wireless printer. Everything is hp brand, computer, router, printer. This model will not print what is in the Q. Exasperated, packed up, returned again to hp. Looking for a different model. I have always had hp printers. Never had a problem until this one.

Superb LaserJet
5 Star Review   By Rynkaio on HP - Jan 8, 2011

This thing has been a breeze to work with. From install to printing, both Win 7 64 and the Mac skipped through the installs and were printing via wireless-N within minutes. The web interface is outstanding as is the firmware update utility. Re: the new firmware; good freaking job HP. Thanks for the streamlined, intuitive local interface. The HP ePrint is sick. It only took about 5 minutes from the install until I was printing via my Droid and my iPhone (via 3G or local network). From a administrative perspective, the snmp worked gloriously with OpManager. I was able to visually observe real time network graphs of the printer's wireless interface with ease. And the best part; Office Depot had it on sale for $350. Win.

Excellent purchase, super easy install
5 Star Review   By Oberthal on HP - Jan 7, 2011

Got a super deal a Office Depot, $ 100.00 discount plus $ 25.00 other rebate, total with taxe $ 357.00. Cant' be beat. Installation done using wifi just pushing button on my netgear wifi router. Installed all instantly, updated firmware via wifi, what you say. Prints crips. Yes, it makes noise when waking up but so do did mold old HP 2600 color AIO laser. Priting is faster and it comes back from standby faster. Works great with Windows 7. Cartridges are small and these are "beginners" cartridges but from my previous experiences with those type of printers they will print thousands of pages until you need new ones. Maybe by then similar printers will be cheaper and costs less than replacing the cartridges!!

Home office star
5 Star Review   By Tobi on HP - Jan 2, 2011

This printer is printing crisp and clear. Photos are acceptable on normal paper. I did not try photo paper, yet. Therefore I cannot tell if the paper is the reason that some photos seem to be a little bit darker than expected. The toner leaves a nice glazing finish. After the firmware update, the printer shows more of its potential. You can print out headlines from various sources without using a computer just of the touchscreen menu. There are also apps for kids preinstalled. With my iPad, I can use AirPrint without any problem after intalling the firmware update. The downside is that you cannot scale AirPrint pictures first when printing directly from the iPad photo app, but that is an issue with iOS and not with the printer. Changing the toner is very simple although I have to say that the cardidges seem to be not very big for what they cost. The service interval (changing drums) is longer than the one for it's black&white brother which is a plus. The wireless functionality is good. It knows standard encryption protocols and does not cause any issues. After all, I am very satisfied with this printer, especially because I bought it when there was a $75 instant-off for online printer purchase plus I found a $25 coupon which dropped the price to about $380 including S&H and OK sales tax. The only downsides I see is that the toner cartridges are not very big, the paper tray not either, and the printing is not alto fast. Considering that I use this printer only for private and school purposes, it fits my needs and the positive features outweigh by far the downsides I mentioned. Overall: two thumbs up!

Lacking in fax capabilities
2 Star Review   By Zadiegirl on HP - Dec 15, 2010

I have a windows contact list that is over 1,000 names. All the other HP all in ones I have had, have been able to access the contacts list and fax specific MS Office documents. This fax machine is limited to only 120 speed dials. It is not capable of using a large contact list and accessing the numbers. It also is noicy. It does not have near the capabily that the older models had. I am disappointed. I wasted 5 hours with tech support trying to resolve the issue. The were of little help on this issue. I contacted iyogi, same results. The machine is a disappointment. I am returning it for a more expensive model, which I really cannot afford to do at this time. However, I have a small business that I run from my home and I must have large quantity faxing capabilities. So Sorry HP for the bad report on this machine. I love the size and the looks of the machine. The software stinks.
