Love It!
4 Star Review   By EHT3 on HP - Apr 18, 2010

I bought an HP Laser Jet 1005 to replace my long-lasting, much loved LaserJet 6L. I didn't like the 1005 because it didn't have a recycle button nor a slot for envelopes. I returned it and replaced it with the P1006which has the recycle button and the envelope slot. The printer is attractive ( silver and dark gray) and Boy is it fast! It's noisy too, but its speed and the quality of its printing make up for that.

Nice printer but can't afford the ink
1 Star Review   By Surprised2x on HP - Apr 2, 2010

This is a very nice printer. The shock is when I bought the first ink cartridge. It is about $65 which yields 1500 pages per the HP site which comes out to about 4.5 cents per sheet!!!!!! Wow. Lexmark laserjet print cost is just over 1 cent. If your interested, please let me know. I am getting rid of this printer because of the ink cost. Can't afford it.

1 Star Review   By VeriFrustrated on HP - Apr 2, 2010

this printer is super fast, prints quality, is a nice size and l got a great price at best buy HOWEVER, AND I KNOW YOU ARE GOING TO FIND THIS HARD TO BELIEVE, when you run out of paper during a print job, you have to shut down the computer entirely in order for the printer to recycle and restart your print job. had l know this beforehand, l would never have bought this printer. it's a subject for a Dilbert cartoon. save yourself endless frustration and avoid this problem child.

Perfect small printer
5 Star Review   By Shore98 on HP - Mar 8, 2010

This is the pefect small laser printer for a family or even a small business. It is great for printing out black and white documents for legal purposes. I use it because if a prinout from an inkjet printer gets wet it usually smears, etc. laser printout is more permanent.

1 Star Review   By madascane on HP - Feb 18, 2010

Printer will not print when you want it to. I have to contuniously unplug it from the system and wait, replug it in and maybe it will start and maybe it won't. I have had the printer replaced from the factory and will work for about 1month and it is back to same old self. With a new ink cartridge it will last maybe a week and then it is down again. I wouldn't advise you buying this product. I have had so much trouble with it.

1 Star Review   By frustrated2010 on HP - Feb 5, 2010

I can not get this printer to work with Windows 7. The printer says it is Windows 7 compatible, but I have tried every method to download an updated driver. I question whether HP has updated the P1006 driver for Windows 7.

Great Printer for the Money
5 Star Review   By PayrollDude on HP - Jan 21, 2010

I've been using the P1006 for several months in the office. I print payroll checks (around 100 per week) and all my other documents on it and it does a wonderful job. It has great print quality and more importantly it is fast and never, and I do mean never, jams. A print cartridge seems to last forever. I'm buying one for my home office.

p1006 printer
1 Star Review   By polhuon74 on HP - Jan 20, 2010

I have had many difficulties with this printer. We go through toner way too often for a laser printer. The printer keeps jamming the computer. We print one thing and then have to turn off the computer to print the next thing.

Good little printer
5 Star Review   By Fred3505 on HP - Jan 9, 2010

I have had this printer for six months and have been impressed with how simple and easy it is to use. Nothing fancy and If you don't need to print in color, this is perfect. Toner is a lot cheaper than ink. I have printed over 1,000 pages with the same cartridge. I rated this 5 stars because I think this is great for the price. Other writeups I have read indicate this should last for years...

Great Machine - Very Poor Operating Instructions
2 Star Review   By Anonymous on HP - Jan 5, 2010

My laptop is on its last leg but the new one I bought is worse - Vista! and who wants to pay for Windows 7 since I already bought Vista in January 09, and paid for WORD etc in Dec 08 only to have my computer crash - lost everything. Thus, I am keeping my laptop- but the CD DVD does not work. Sony is poor for CD DVD and sound - well known fact. I bought the HP laser - it works great - fantastic - its very fast and no problems except I cannot download the CD - thus I am at a total loss about how to operate this machine that continually goes offline and I have to jump through hoops to get the lastr to work.

Consider it a donation to HP
1 Star Review   By JAGII on HP - Dec 28, 2009

Worst printer I have ever owned. My printer will not print envelopes unless I go through a laborious process of changing the properties and page setup. Of course, when I am ready to print my letter, I have to change back all the settings. HP service said that was how it was supposed to work. Later sent me an email with instructions to correct it, but it still does not work. If you need to print envelopes and letters. Don't buy it.

P1006
1 Star Review   By alstom on HP - Dec 13, 2009

THE PRINTER PRINTS SLOPING DOWN FROM LEFT TO RIGHT.. i BOUGHT A NEW PRINTER AND FOUND OUT THAT IT DOESN'T PRINT STRAIGHT. THE LAST LETTER IS MUCH LOWER THAN THE FIRST LETTER IIN A LINE. THEY SEND ME A REPLACEMENT WHICH IS A REFURBISHED PRINTER SO I END UP BUYING A REFURBISHED PRINTER. i DON'T WANT TO COMPLAIN TOO MUCH BUT THE LADY IN THE TECH SUPPORT WAS VERY CONDESCENDING.THE REPLACEMENT HAD THE SAME RESULT. IS THERE A LASERJET PRINTER THAT PRINTS IN A STRAIGHT LINE?

P1006
3 Star Review   By wspine on HP - Dec 7, 2009

I got this Printer last week, replacing a 1022 with a bad fusing unit. The Pro's, the quality of the print is great and the toner sticks to the page and not my clothes. Cons the paper tray is smaller, about 100 sheets so I am constantly filling the paper tray, it seems to pull a lot of double sheets, since I am looking to save trees and print a lot of double sided copies, I reprint a lot of double sided copies and am not saving trees, the lumberjacks who will remain employeed can thank me later. The speed seems slower than my old printer, even though it is supposed to be as fast. For features it is pretty bare bones, but it is only an entry level printer. It will do labels, envelopes and 2 sided copies. It is a good printer for the home at a low cost, however for my work application, I can print up to 150 documents daily it is probably too small, but my IT dept says that itis what we put on the desks. For me I wouldn't get another one and I'm off to my boss to disscuss a higher volume printer.

No support for Mac OS X 10.6
4 Star Review   By BanjoBill on HP - Sep 12, 2009

This little printer worked fine with the HP driver's limited functionality for printing with OS X 10.5. Now it's a paperweight because HP has not written a new driver for Snow Leopard. If you have or plan to upgrade, avoid the P1006 unless HP shows it has supplied a driver that works with Snow Leopard.

Not postscript compatible!
2 Star Review   By inaj01 on HP - Sep 10, 2009

I bought this printer because I'd seen good reviews but it was not what I expected. Yes, it is compatible with Mac and PC but it is NOT a postscript printer so it is worthless for me. I don't know why HP can't make note of this on the product packaging or promotions; it is not that difficult to share information that is critical to many of us. I wasn't completely unhappy to discover that it wasn't suitable though, because in setting it up and testing it, I also was surprised at how noisy it was, because some reviews talked about it being quiet -- I wonder what they were comparing it to? I have an HP 1022 that is unfortunately discontinued because it is a much better printer than the P1006. I wish I could buy another 1022 for my office -- it has been a fantastic product: quiet, fast, small, inexpensive and postscript too. Bring it back, HP!

My first lazerjet
4 Star Review   By DaveinNC on HP - Aug 30, 2009

This is a great little machine, but it has one flaw that I've been unable to resolve. If it runs out of printer paper during printing, it'll complete the document, but that's where it ends. Before you can print anything else, you have to reboot your computer! Go figure. I've reinstalled the software, I've downloaded updated drivers, I've tried everything to resolve this to no avail. I get lots of prints between cartridges, so even though the toner is expensive (about $75), I go through reems and reems inbetween.

A Dandy Little Printer
5 Star Review   By DrT1 on HP - Aug 29, 2009

No one could ask for a better high-speed, production volume printer for this price. It is compact, fast, easy to use, easy to load supplies. I bought this printer to replace an HP Laser Jet 6L, which lasted ten years (until the rubber rollers wouldn't pull single sheets through the machine). I have had very good experiences with HP printers; can't say this about others.

HP P1006 Laser Printer (for $95 delivered)
5 Star Review   By member macdavids - Aug 24, 2009

Strengths: Small and compact, print output up to 1200x1200 dpi. Fast printing, no paper jams or such, new cartridges are from 23.50 from eBay (3x cheaper then the HP original cartridge)

Weakness: the provided cartridge is good for about 400 pages, paper tray is designed sothat needs to be open all the time.

Overall is one of the best Laser printer under $ 99.00 Performance are good, very good, however this printer is less good for graphics to be printed. New re-manufactured cartridges are from $23.00 at eBay which is very inexpensive compared to HP original which runs about $ 67.00 If you are printing text most of the time this is one of the best laser printer, especially for the price under $95 inc. shipping, tax and handling ... Great printer
5 Star Review   By redhatter on HP - Jun 3, 2009

I have purchased two laser printers in the last 18 years. The first one was HP IIP Plus. This one is still working and is great. I wanted something new with my new computer so purchased this printer. It is extremely fast, fits on my desk perfectly, half the size of my old one. I hope it lasts half as long as my first one and I will be very happy. I use this printer daily for transcription so it gets a workout.

Good Printer - 1 Button!
3 Star Review   By Navid57 on HP - Jun 2, 2009

This is an easy to use printer. Has a good software supporting it. Well worked in both single side and double side printing. The only thing make trouble for me is lack of "resume/go" button on the printer. there is only the cancel button on printer. Hence sometimes such as when printing double side, after turning the papers, you have to click on the resume button on software dialogue box resuming print on other side. However this printer as an economical one is valuable.

I work for the US Dept of Veterans Affairs. We use all HP laser jet printers. Recently Staples offered a $50 trade-in cash card and I bought the HP P1006. I is just plain excellent! Fast printing, excellent quality printing, and easy to use and to replace print cartridge.

Will not feed standard label paper
1 Star Review   By SmallBusOwner on HP - Apr 18, 2009

I purchased the P1006 laserjet printer to replace my HP 1020 laserjet printer. I use this printer exclusively to print shipping labels. The HP 1020 worked like a champ for 3 years. However, right out of the box, the P1006 would not feed a piece of label paper. Same label paper that the HP 1020 fed flawlessly. HP support was good enough to replace the P1006 printer with a P1505 which feeds label paper just fine. The P1006 printer did feed regular paper, although a bit noisy.

HP1006
5 Star Review   By Babra on HP - Apr 4, 2009

This laserjet is fast and very efficient in its operation. This is the third HP printer I've had and all of them have performed very well. I use it nearly every day in my volunteer work and I've not had a problem in over a year of steady use..For an economical, fast printer I don't think I could beat HP.

Great Printer!
5 Star Review   By DGani on HP - Apr 3, 2009

I wanted something simple and less expensive than my photosmart to print all my B&W projects. The only thing I did notice is that it is a little noisey, clicks when it prints, but it is fast and clear. Quick & easy setup. It took me less than 15 minutes from opening the box to printing a small project. It is exactly what I wanted for a great price.

I needed a high quality printer that would fit into a very small space, easy to install and easy to use. After using it for over six months, I am very pleased with every aspect--features, performance and print quality. It is exactly what I was looking for.

Save your color cartridges
4 Star Review   By Dave376 on HP - Mar 27, 2009

Save money by using black & white printing for the majority of your printing needs. Then use your color printer for photos and when you really need color. This printer is a great space saver with such a small footprint. It's fast warm-up and fast printing is perfect for receipts for on-line payments, printing informational articles, etc. I would highly recommend this printer as a B&W backup to color printers.

small laser with big performance
4 Star Review   By ducky on HP - Mar 26, 2009

I bought the hp laser jet 1006 because it was on sale. I was surprised at the speed and quality of this small workhorse. While I might not recommend it for large offices or massive printing, it is certainly adequate for home or small business.

It is costly

The ink cartridge only works for around 400 copies and with a cost of around $70 per unit, each copy is too expensive.

2 Star Review   By Laurie on Provantage (Channel Engine) - Feb 24, 2009

Strengths: Prints OK.

Weakness: Does not print an envelope easily. Runs out of paper frequently.

I have yet to figure out how to print an envelope. I've tried everything and nothing works regarding printing envelopes. Would not buy this printer again.

HP LaserJet P1006 Printer
5 Star Review   By Nemo2 on HP - Jan 15, 2009

Although there's a bit of a lag between clicking on "print" and the start of the printing, the brief wait is worth it. THe print is very clear. I love not having to worry about color ink. And the cartridge lasts a very long time.

Great printer
5 Star Review   By Water on HP - Jan 5, 2009

I purchased this printer and found it to be an exceptional unit for its size and price. The cartridge is a bit small (1500 pages) but the quality and speed ranks among the best. I purchased two more as gifts.

HP LaserJet P1006 is FAST!!!
5 Star Review   By Smurfette on HP - Dec 1, 2008

I love this printer!! It is the perfect size, fits anywhere and doesn't take up a lot of room! It has all the features you need for a printer, and it is unbelievably fast!! It may have been powered down all night and you go to print and BINGO its there! It requires very little warm-up like some printers that take forever to warm up and then print! It also prints very well! Excellent quality! For the price this is definitely worth it!! If you get it on sale as I did you will feel you got a steal! ! I give it 5 stars!!

I was so pleased with the price and performance of this printer I bought a second one for work. Great quality! Fantastic price for a laser printer, no bells and whistles but who needs them if you want a fast, quality black & white print. $99 is a steal. Thanks HP!

Great Personal Printer
2 Star Review   By mart on HP - Nov 18, 2008

This is a great little lightweight budget personal printer. Its compact and reasonably quick and comes at a very low price. I have titled this Personal Printer as its a Host Based printer and not suitable for printing from Windows Terminal Services or Citrix. So if you have a connection to the Office Lan from home it may not be for you. This is not clear in the marketing info or tech spec hence I have scored it low.

Great Mobile Laser Printer
5 Star Review   By Anonymous on HP - Nov 5, 2008

I got this printer on sale for $99.99 its exactly what I was needing to print invoices in my truck for my business. I hooked it up to a 1000 watt power inverter and it works great. I can't believe the speed compared to the ink jet printer I was using. I was told that a laser printer required a true sine wave inverter, but this printer works with my 1000 watt modified sine inverter wave just fine.

Very Easy
4 Star Review   By Gme18 on HP - Sep 16, 2008

This is my first laser printer i buy. I have an iMac, and i thought it was going to be a very difficult task to set up the printer. it took no more than 5 minutes to print my first document. That might have been the easiest installation i've ever done. The print quality is amazing, I've had no trouble since i bought this printer. This printer is the best you can get for that prize.

Produces quality one-sided black-and-white prints
4 Star Review   By JamesE on HP - Aug 14, 2008

Upgrading from a 24-pin, dot-matrix printer, I'm very impressed by the quality of the copies, as well as the printer's much quieter, quicker (between 17 and 18 pages per minute for me) operation. However, from the instructions in the printer's box, I could not figure out whether to or how to remove two orange plastic pieces from the toner cartridge before installing it. The very brief instructions and diagrams apparently only mentioned removing tape, not two orange plastic pieces. But, the CD provided detailed guidance. The detailed manual on the CD is great, also. However, the manual for my printer purchased in July 2008 apparently does not include instructions about right clicking on the printer icon as a step in printing a supply status page (as well as in accessing several other printer features) on the Windows Vista Home Basic operating system. Tech support was patient and helpful in resolving my setup questions over the phone, as well as a problem on one occasion when the printer would not print for some reason. On that occasion tech support provided instructions to delete a pending print job which for some reason wouldn't print, and thus held up other jobs preventing them from printing. When I resent the job it worked fine. Before purchasing this one, I checked various sale papers for printers, and felt this was the best deal for my budget. I would recommend it for persons seeking a fairly low cost (I bought it on sale for under $100) black-and-white laser printer to print one-sided copies.

GREAT Basic LaserJet
4 Star Review   By Anonymous on HP - Jul 15, 2008

I have this printer connected to my workstation at the office and it's my personal printer, so it is not on the Network as I have it connected via USB. For basic documents that I need immeadiate access to, or sensitive papers this is just the perfect solution. I've not had any application issues, and I'm running Windows XP so I haven't had any connectivity issues either. For someone who prints only 100-200 pages a month, I wouldn't think that anyone would something that was better than this for the money. I was using an Inkjet, but I felt that I was spending too much money on the ink. If you are a fan of HP stuff, this is a good printer if it fits your needs.

HP P1006
4 Star Review

Strengths: Fast, low initial cost.

Weakness: High cost of toner cartridge.

No 'compatible' toner cartridges are available at this time. This makes this printer quite expensive to operate when genuine HP cartridge has to be used all the time. HP also built into the printer driver a check to verify if the cartridge is 'genuine' or not. Not sure what will happen if a 'compatible' cartridge is used and detected (if it is eventually available). The HP 1020 is just a bit more expensive initially but the additional cost is easily offset by savings on a couple of compatible toner cartridges if you chose to use them.

5 Star Review   By killain on HP - Jul 7, 2008

This is a great value, the installation of the drivers and sofeware with windows XP was a bit difficult and took the best part of a hour, but once I was able to work out some of the sofeware bugs, everything fellinto place. Printer is a excellant buy and works perfect. i'd recommend getting a extra print cartrage as a backup.

Big bang for the buck
5 Star Review   By KeyRat on HP - Jul 1, 2008

I'd buy it again. It prints much more quickly and quietly than any ink jet. I don't think there is a better deal out there that will give you quick, crisp, and quiet black and whilte single sided prints. I plugged this printer into my server via USB and shared it on the network. My XP and Vista clients printed to the shared printer wonderfully. The only problem I had was printing labels, it wanted me to acknowledge on the server for each sheet before it would print. This was pretty annoying, but if I was using it as a local printer it wouldn't have been an issue. Of course I wish it was a network printer, or had an optional accessory (jet direct card) to enable network printing. Overall, this printer will bury any ink jet in print quality, speed and quietness of operation in this price range.

Problem with complex images
1 Star Review   By DavidC on HP - Jun 6, 2008

I am a software developer with thousands of customers using our application. The HP 1006 attached to a computer running Windows Vista Home Edition is the ONLY printer that is unable to print the complex image of lines, circles, and many different true type fonts among many hundreds of different printers used by thousands of customers. Some of the font face changes do not work and the font style is incorrect. All of the lines and circles are properly drawn. I worked with the customer experiencing this problem for an hour, changing many settings and re-booting the computer, turning the printer on and off, etc. but nothing worked. Because this kind of problem occurs with far less than 1% of our customers and the customer downloaded the latest driver today (June 6, 2008), it appears that this printer simply is incapable of handling complex images even though every other printer seems to be able to do so.

Mac OS X Leopard users rejoice!
4 Star Review   By PharrTexas on HP - Jun 3, 2008

As of May 30, 2008 there is a new driver available to download that finally works well with Mac OS X Leopard. EconoMode is available to save toner and it is now Bonjour compatible. Macs and PCs with Bonjour installed can now print over the network to the P1006 while connected to the Mac. I don't know whether a Mac can print over the network to the P1006 while connected to a PC as I have not tried that setup, but a new driver for XP/Vista was made available the previous week and may now allow that to be possible. It wasn't before when I tried in February. Needless to say, it is finally worth the $99 I paid for three months ago.

Little beauty.
4 Star Review   By member gazrcom - May 30, 2008

Strengths: Compact. Warm up time. Brand name.

Weakness: Only comes with a starter (not full) cartridge. Lack of features.

This laser is pretty much as described and comes under the cheaper options out there. If you need something for occasional printing and not large print jobs, you could do worse than this. I mainly use it to print pdf files that require sharp crisp text, and this printer produces. The only downside to most laser printers is the cost to replace the cartridges...factor this in when making your purchase.

I have only used this for approx. 1 week & the noise is very distracting. It is being used in my office for daily printing of reports. It "ka-thunks" each time it picks up a paper. I have used hp's in the past & this one is far noiser. I wish I had not purchased it without seeng it in use first. It is also slower to print.

4 Star Review   By Les123 on HP - Apr 13, 2008

A great printer if you don't need color on your paper. It's also great for home or small business use because it's quick, easy and great for my desktop because of it's size. The laser cartridge is perfect for me because I don't have to be concerned about my color ink cartridges drying up so often. Just wish it came with a dust cover for the paper, like a lot of other models do. Over all I'm satisfied with this printer.

Prints only from a few apps.
2 Star Review   By mallen on HP - Apr 4, 2008

The P1006 is a nice compact printer that when it prints, it prints an excellent copy. The problem is that it prints only from a few apps. It will NOT print a Quicken, InDesign, FileMakerPro, or a Safari page, among others. It will print documents from Excel, Pages, Mail, and Illustrator. I'm using Mac OSX 10.5 (Leopard). Tech Support tells me that a new printer driver is in the works and was supposed to be available the end of March. But so far I'm stuck with a printer that prints only half the time.

Will not work with Linksys Wireless Print servers
3 Star Review   By mim93 on HP - Mar 16, 2008

Price and performance are very good. Prints faster than I thought it would. Wanted to set it across the room and network it with a Linksys WPS54G Wireless Print Server but this just will not work with it. Having another device on my desktop is unwelcome. HP's print server costs too much. Wish I would have done better research before buying.

5 Star Review   By Anonymous on HP - Mar 12, 2008

I had to use the CD to install the printer, and the 'quick start' sheet could have been a little better. It does not suggest you remove all of the shipping blocks around the laser cart. But it is quick, quiet, and a super but at 99 bucks. The 35a cartridge is pricey, but wha's new.

Budget Printing
4 Star Review   By member Fastor - Mar 6, 2008

Strengths: Price, Quality Brand, Size, Speed

Weakness: Features

As a personal laser printer, this gets the job done. Very fast first page print time, HP Service and Support, and a very small footprint make this printer ideal for anyone. As stated on the box and the HP website, the starter cartridge included yields approximately 700 pages compared to the 1500 of a full, replacement catridge.

Only good if in Office
2 Star Review   By Salesman0Gil on HP - Mar 4, 2008

This pritner is very picky. I simply unplugged the usb cable, worked on another printer, then plugged this one back in . And it didn't work!! I had to completely re-install it. This happened three times in a row. This printer would be good in an office, where it is consistently plugged in, but that is it.

AWESOME FOR THE PRICE
5 Star Review   By member g0dM n - Mar 2, 2008

Strengths: Fast print and crisp print-out

Weakness: It does suck up a lot of power and dims lights for a brief moment in my bedroom, but it truly doesn't bother me.

I got this for an outstanding price at newegg.com and I've no complaints. I purchased this solely for black and white print-outs like for reading emails, printing invoices and such. I don't care for color and only wanted something that was CHEAP and fast. Laser is fast, and toner will be cheap compared to ink, and shouldn't cause streaking like my other HP all-on-one color printer. I paid $50, and think it's worth every penny.

HP LaserJet P1006 Laser Printer
5 Star Review   By member geoffreyz2000 - Feb 23, 2008

Strengths: Compact size, quick printing speed, reasonable price.

This printer is in compact size. The best part of the printer, in my opinion, is it has super fast printing speed. It takes less than 4 seconds to print the first page. In addition, the printing quality is great. THe price of this printer is also very reasonable. This printer needs a USB cable to be connected to the computer. It doesn't support wireless operation. Also make sure to download the latest driver from HP website for this device.

HP LaserJet P1006
5 Star Review   By member hugocarmichael - Feb 21, 2008

Strengths: Very compact size, short warm up.

Weakness: Small toner cartridges, starter toner with new printer.

This is an excellent black and white laser printer for the home user. Most people print only in B&W and this is very economical. Very small, while most laser printers are large. Warm up time is very short so you don't have to wait and text print quality is excellent. Only bad things about the printer is that it comes with a starter toner cartridge and HP does not specify the yield of that starter toner, new toner cartridges do 1,500 pages which is smaller than the industry standard of 2000 pages. Still enough prints for the average home user though.

Good printer but not fully functional with Leopard
4 Star Review   By mackrul on HP - Feb 8, 2008

HP tech support says a driver update will be available by end of Feb. 2008 that will make all the print features functional. Can't utilize features such as toner economy mode, print quality, and manual duplexing. Everything else about the printer is perfect. Standard printing works well. When the driver is updated, I may give it more stars for features.
