HP Deskjet D4260
2.5 Star Review  productwiki.com - Nov 15, 2011

The Deskjet D4260 is an inexpensive general purpose inkjet printer from HP. Primarily designed for light home/home office use due to its rather small ink cartridges, the D4260 allows you to print only a basic variety of paper sizes, including some photographs. Faster than all lower models, the Deskjet D4260 strikes a balance between speed and cost. The only difference between the Deskjet D4260 and the D4360 besides their visual appearance is that the D4360 is Energy Star certified, meaning it will use less electricity in sleep/idle mode than the D4260. Features Supported paper: Letter, legal, executive, No. 10 envelopes, cards, borderless photo, borderless panorama, double panorama Connectivity: 1 USB 2.0 Print speeds: 30ppm black / 23ppm colour Included cartridges: HP 74 black print cartridge (4.5 ml), HP 75 tri-color print cartridge (3.5 ml) Supported cartridges: HP 74 Black Inkjet Print Cartridge (4.5 ml), HP 74XL Black Inkjet Print Cartridge (18 ... PROS: (1) Not nearly as prone to printhead stalling/clogging as similar models from Epson or Lexmark - each new ink cartridge incorporating a new printhead is an excellent feature (2) Driver software installs quickly and easily on both Mac and PC platforms - allows for simple document customization and fast, reliable printing (3) Fold-up paper tray design reduces unit footprint by approximately 8 inches - excellent feature for cramped office applications (4) Unit is surprisingly quiet - maintains low operational noise throughout printing process more effectively than competitors from Canon and Lexmark ... CONS: (1) Doesnt include a USB cable despite requiring one for use - many users will be forced to go out and purchase a separate cable ($5-$10 value) (2) Paper feed tray is seemingly inconsistent - many users report frequent jamming due to partial sheet grabbing, multiple sheet grabbing and partial printing (3) Unit requires a surprisingly large amount of ink for regular operation - frequent users report spending up to $100 a month to replenish cartridges (4) Relatively small printing area may cause frustration amongst users making brochures, spreadsheets or even standard word documents - unit tends to "clip-off" portions of each page bottom

the little printer that could !
5 Star Review   By Spacewarp59 on HP - Dec 30, 2008

I recently purchased the Deskjet D4260 from the HP home store for the amazing price of $39.99. Easy installation and easy to use . The inkjet cartridges are inexpensive and the prinouts in color or black and white are quite exceptable. This HP printer for the price paid is a no brainer. Did I also mention the printouts are fast and of high quality. My only regret is that I did not purchase several more of these printers as holiday gifts. You will not go wrong purchasing this HP D4260.......

Excellent Printer, great value.
5 Star Review   By kjoseph on HP - Nov 16, 2008

I have had this printer for about a couple of months, and by far it is the fastest. When I hit print, it prints immediately, and fast for black. For color, its pretty good, not slow but not fast too. And when I print pictures the image is great, but not the excellent. One thing though when you print, it prints fast, and you better have the paper tray extender out, b/c it does like to print fast and send the paper out fast, so you don't get attacked by paper. Plus it's a HP printer, and its by far the best. Plus for $30 for Black and Color Cartridges! Great deal, and you get great ink, great black, and great color.

Average quality printer of home use
4 Star Review   By member florabing8 - Sep 6, 2008

Strengths: cheap price with bundle rebate, fast prints, campact size

Weakness: ink price, software interface, photo printing

I bought it due to the cheap price. It's not very disappointing until I found out that the ink price is not very welcoming. Photo prints don't have good quality but it's good at regular printing. If you could find the source for cheap ink and if you get it for free, it's a good choice to have it.

Quickly died
1 Star Review   By nancypsych on HP - Sep 1, 2008

While I loved the features (ability to stop printing, front USB slot, etc.) and the print quality for pictures and text is very good, the printer is useless in less than four months. Last week I printed a few pages of business card stock, and since then, the printer continually jams when feeding ordinary 20# paper stock. I have tried printing just one page at a time to no avail. I may be a sap, but am replacing the printer with the HP D4360 simply because I have about $60.00 worth of new ink cartridges already on hand which will be compatible with the new printer. Wish me luck. I will, of course, be contacting HP about the 1 year warranty, but need a printer yesterday for the work I do at home so can't wait for them to tell me if it is repairable. Maybe eventually I will have a spare on hand if the new one dies early.

HP Deskjet D4260
4 Star Review   By member trackrebate - Aug 30, 2008

Strengths: Compact, reliable

Weakness: Expensive ink

The printer does a decent job in regular printing and photo printing. It is also very compact and doesn't take much space. The HP ink is expensive, but sometimes, if you buy this printer with a digital camera, some rebates are available to reduce the price. The print speed is also ok.

5 Star Review   By member anoleg99 - Aug 9, 2008

Strengths: cheap, work with PC and mac, pretty small, very good printing quality

Weakness: cartridge price

I got this printer pretty much free after rebate when i bought my Sony camera. It is a good printer for day-to-day use. It doesn't take much space on the desk and printing quality is very impressive. I changed settings to black and white as i don't usually print in color. I didn't install HP software, just drivers as HP printing software is a huge file and takes a lot of space on my computer. I tried it with my Mac it works just fine, don't need to install anything.

Your basic HP entry level printer
3 Star Review   By member garrettww - Jul 7, 2008

Strengths: Inexpensive Good print quality

I have used many HP printers and never had much issue with them. This one is no different. Just install the software, plug it in and your off. Don't print too much, because your next ink tank purchase could exceed the price of the printer! The printer is pretty fast at even color photo quality print jobs. There is no print bridge but you can plug your camera or flash drive into the printer which acts like a USB hub. I like the way this printer looks on the desk too.

You get what you pay for printer!
4 Star Review   By member sierra_nevadas - Jul 5, 2008

Strengths: Cheap (free after bundled rebate); lightweight; replacement ink is cheap

Weakness: Flimsy; so-so picture quality

I wasn't expecting much from a free printer (after a rebate bundle deal), but I wanted it to be workable. The printer is serviceable. It produces decent text printouts, and the pictures are decent, but not great. THis is okay for general purpose, but for real picture printing, buy something better. I like that the ink is fairly inexpensive. It takes a HP74 Black cartridge (about $17) and a HP75 Color cartridge (about $20).

Great Home Printer
5 Star Review   By Wenkthetank on HP - Jun 30, 2008

This printer is perfect for a person like me who does not have a lot of space. When the paper tray folds up I sometimes forget it is there. I mostly print out documents and they look beautiful. It also prints quickly which is great. My only complaint would be that it does not have a "power save" mode, but considering that it takes 3 seconds to start up I could care less. The last thing I'll say is that it installed and works flawlessly with my MacBook Pro, so all you Mac users can purchase confidently.

Nice Free Printer
3 Star Review   By member MrMike1876 - Jun 26, 2008

Strengths: Cheap. Fast printing

Weakness: Photo Quality function - needs better software.

This is a good printer for basic use. This printer is fairly inexpensive - I got mine free after rebate with purchase of my laptop. The speed of the printer's output is great. However when you try to print photos - the quality is not up to par.

Good printer expensive ink
3 Star Review   By member reetska - Jun 10, 2008

Strengths: Great print quality. Good photo printer

Weakness: Not the fastest printer, expensive inks.

This printer gets the job done, very good quality prints, whether photos or just plain text. Ink carts are kinda expensive and the color inks are not separate. If one color runs out, you have to replace the whole cartridge.

Your average inkjet
3 Star Review   By member Fiscal Gear - Jun 7, 2008

Strengths: Price, doesn't mysteriously consume ink when not in use

Weakness: Inkjet

This is another average inkjet printer. The printer market in the past few years has become such that the manufacturers profit off of ink, not printers. With that in mind, do not spend more than $40 on any inkjet ever. They can usually be found much cheaper with rebates and other promotions. Also, do yourself a favor and buy generic compatible ink cartridges. An advantage of HP over Epson is that Epson notoriously vaporizes ink. You'll be replacing color cartridges on a regular basis whether or not you actually print in color. You might say, "Why would I replace them if I don't use them?" The answer is because Epson printers will not let you print anything if one of the cartridges is empty. Again, they make their money from ink sales.

Nice looking printer
4 Star Review

Strengths: The speed of the printer is pretty fast and the printer size is small. And the most important thing is this printer is pretty cheap when compare with others.

Weakness: The picture quality is not as good as i expected. I will not use this printer to print any photograph.

It is a good printer to print documentation and homework. However, please do not buy this printer if you want to use this printer to print photograph. There is better choice in the market.

An OK printer
3 Star Review   By member rshekhar - Jun 3, 2008

Strengths: Compact and easy set-up

Weakness: Ink

I bough this camera when my Canon ip3500 died. Instead of replacing the ink I got this camera. When compared to Canon this is not that good, Also I had problem when priniting first time as the VISTA was complaining about the drivers. This does not come with a USB cable to connect with your computer, and the ink cartridges that come with it are the "economy size" that don't last very long. However once I replaced the black cartridge with a standard size, the ink supply seems to be holding up pretty OK.

HP Deskjet D4260
4 Star Review   By member majinbis - Jun 2, 2008

Strengths: Compact, fast printing

Weakness: not that good with graphics, only a little less than an AIO

This is a good printer choice for those of us who primarily prints documents. The inks are sensible and lasts a long time (especially the XL inks). My only concern is that the low-end All-in-ones only costs about 20-30 dollars more; but if you don't need the scan/copy feature then this is a good choice

4 Star Review   By member respdoc - Jun 2, 2008

Strengths: Small, compact design for the price.

Weakness: none found so far.

Printer was purchased as part of a combo-package. Like I commented above, the size of the printer along with low price makes this a great general purpose printing machine. I would recommend this for cheap, good quality copies.

Strengths: fast print speeds, especially with graphics and photo prints; good text quality for the price.Inexpensive;

Weakness: Did not find the photsmart sw good. some more improvements could have been done

I needed it for my kids for the school project works and some small home printing. this is a good value for money. I have not yet given it a more vigorous work-over but as a home printer it should meet my needs for another couple of years

4 Star Review   By member kyahai - May 29, 2008

Strengths: Fast Printer for Text printing, Cheap printer for daily and home use

Weakness: Photo printing quality not good

After reading the good reviews for this printer, i purchased it today as i had to print some documents. I printed almost 50 pages and still inks are there. I installed the software easily and very fast to print. I love my printer. This is very cheap and best printer in the market from HP.

Fast printer, medocore for hard core photo prints
3 Star Review   By member austindude - May 29, 2008

Strengths: Super fast inket prints - good for draft copies only, but when that's what you need most of - by all means this rocks. CNET lists this as 11.3 cents/page which is pretty good for a cheap printer.

Weakness: Jagged prints on draft, but to be expected as fast as it goes. Faster than most lasers still. For most users good enough photo printing too, as long as you don't need it to be pristine.

Great for standard home use for graphics and text. Better options for good photo printing. But what do you expect for the price! Perfect for home students printing homework and papers for school and parents for draft quality work prints. If you do a lot of home printing, a great choice for fast prints.

Very Basic Printer for Everyday Use
3 Star Review   By member m_corbelli - May 19, 2008

Strengths: Cheap, reliable

Weakness: Printing photos

This ia a good printer for homework, black and white documents, as a spare etc. It will print everyday stuff. It won't do a very good job for photos or brochures and it won't print on CD's. But if you do all of your printing on 8 1/2 by 11 paper this is the printer to use.

HP D4260
3 Star Review   By member chiwai - May 6, 2008

Strengths: Cheap, low-end priced basic printer, easy to set-up

Weakness: Software problem, initial ink cartridge went out too fast

I use it simply to print documents, have not tried pictures yet, but I am pleased. It is not super fast but I didn't need a fast one. It is efficient and quiet. Easy to hook up, easy to install the software, fairly quiet, and the ink cartridges are reasonably priced. All in all I am happy with the product, and will likely stick with HP products.

Strengths: Relatively Compact, Quiet, and Fast Inkjet Color Printer; Rebate with a Computer Purchase

Weakness: No Automatic Duplex Printing

This is my ninth HP printer and fourth inkjet printer. I had some issues with HP printer drivers in the past from time to time. However, so far I do not see any issue with the printer drivers provided by HP on a CD. Overall I am quite satisfied with this new desktop color printer. I would recommend this printer to my friends who need color printer but not using duplex printing feature.

HP Deskjet Quality
4 Star Review   By member ugurdy - Mar 11, 2008

Strengths: fast,reliable,Mac compatible

I have been using this printer about a month and I am very happy with it. I know the inks are pretty expensive at HP, but you can always refill them. It is fast and quiet printer and also text and pictures are so sharp. It is compatible with Mac and install very easy. HP quality is really shown on this product and free after rebate with PC or Laptop purchase.

HP Deskjet D4260
4 Star Review   By member rbweddle - Mar 9, 2008

Strengths: Easy to install; great printing for the price

Weakness: With all HP printers, the ink is very expensive.

I have bought many HP printers and have been very satisfied considering the price for performance. I have had Canon and Lexmark and find the HP to be as good if not better. I will continue to buy HP prints

Deskjet D4260 Printer
4 Star Review

Strengths: Ink is inexpensive. Has a nice small footprint and is quite.

Weakness: When using heavy glossy paper it has a problem feeding the stock.

I had a Lexmark network printer previously that consumed a terrific amount of ink. Very expensive. This D4260 seems a little faster but has a problem feeding a heavy weight photo stock. The Lexmark was a rear straight line feeder. This printer only feeds from the front making the paper go in and around and then back out the front. Seems to stress the system a little. The color photos are real good, considering that I don't use the HP photo paper, which I found too expensive. In general I like this printer and the software package that came with it.

Delivers as promised
5 Star Review   By Boofo131 on HP - May 17, 2007

This is my first HP printer and so far, I'm glad I switched brands. This printer is full of value for the money. The text printing is some of the best I have seen on any printer. The only drawbacks I have are there is no auto-power-on setting (the printer does not go in Power saving mode), and it is not Sure Supply equipped. For the excellent price, I can live with it.
