Very good value
I have been amazed at how long the ink has lasted in this printer. After owning for about 5 months, we finally have to change out the black and blue cartridges. The print quality also exceeded my expectations. I use it primarily for printing documents for a church, and the pages come out very detailed and clear.

yellow ink problem
printer runs good up until the yellow ink starts to drip or wont print. Do your research... I was the first one to purchase this printer thats why i was not able to find out more about this problem other than now..

Hello, One of the reasons I chose the EPSON WP-4540 was the low ink factor. Indeed, I have been spending very little on ink, because most of the time I cannot get the printer to print... I've had it about a year. Maybe it is just my own printer that is a lemon, because up to now I had had good experiences with EPSON.

Has a defect with leaking ink.
It would be a great printer, except it has a flaw of spewing yellow ink on everything. After researching on the internet, I found that this is a common problem with this model. Steer clear.

The best Printer!
I have had been using computers & printers since 1982 and have had many printers to include Laser printers. This by far is the best one yet. It does all that I need and the double tray for paper is the greatest.

Greate printer, only for a few months!
This line of Epson printers is fundamentally flawed. Just google "Epson Workforce Leak" and see how many people have experienced the issue of their printers leaking yellow ink. I bought mine in 2011 and just a little after one year (with very light use) it started leaking yellow ink. As the result, it is not useable for anything I would like to give to my clients, it just doesn't look professional with yellow ink sprayed all over the page. The print quality and speed of this machine is great, but the problem of leaking ink is a big draw back. If you decide to buy it, get at least three years of extended waranty from the store and be prepared to take it back and get a new one every few months because this WILL happen to you too.

Yellow ink leak
Within a little over a year of having this printer at work we started to notice yellow ink leaking all inside of the printer and onto the pages it was printing. After having a professional come out to service the machine, we were informed that it would cost more to purchase and replace the part needed. We were also told that cleaning up the ink spill would be another hefty charge if they could even clean it all. With all of the continued negative reviews with the same yellow ink leaking problem, I am surprised that Epson has not made an attempt to recall the piece of this machine that is obviously breaking for a lot of purchasers. Other than this particular issue the printer has be "ok". I would not recommend this printer, as you will most likely be purchasing a new one within a years time once yours is covered in yellow ink.

To date, this product has ...
To date, this product has worked well. I'm somewhat disappointed that tech advise requires a long distance call but so little is required that it is not really a problem. There have been times that I was unable to find the right information in the manuals (it is always there) that I wished that I could just call and ask someone where to find the right instructions or information. I have the 4540 which might be over kill for my needs but I really like the the touch feature because it is so easy to use. It does save a lot of time.

Best multi-function device ever.
In over thirty years working with PC printers, scanners, copiers and FAX machines, the Epson WP-4540 is, by far, the most reliable and versatile device I have owned. It has an incredible list of features with easy set-up and access. The ink tanks seem to last forever.

Another yellow ink issue
Very promising initially, but ultimately very disappointing. Just leaving another review to document the same problem that many on the web have already noted. After the first cartridge change my unit also drips/sprays yellow ink everywhere which soaks the paper that is coming through the feed. The printer simply cannot be used for printing any longer.

Yellow ink leak
This printer was the best one I'd ever purchased for a year and a half. My biggest complaint up until that point was that the printer asks to have the ink cartridges replaced way too soon and it was annoying. That was until the printer was warning that the yellow ink cartridge was empty only to have yellow ink all over inside of it. If the cartridge was that low how did that happen? I replaced the yellow and the cyan then cleaned out the printer twice only to have more yellow ink then before I serviced it leaking all over my prints. I've used Epson printers at home and large format for professional work but next time I need a printer I'm looking elsewhere. Epson's lost another customer.

Great all in one. Purchase xl cartridges 676 and ink lasts and lasts. Much lower ink pricing for volume compared to H P. They have good software that works to make printer sble to connect with all wireless devices in home or office. I would get extended warranty so you know you sre covered.

Repair or Replace
If this printer didn't have problems it would be a great value. After replacing the yellow ink cartridge all printed copies came out with a 2-4 inch wide solid yellow stripe from top to bottom. I tried a second cartridge same problem. The heads were cleaned-same problem. Since printer repairs are so expensive, I can't decide if I should replace, or repair, this printer.

This is a loooong way from the first Epson dot matrix printer that i paired up with one of my first PC's. This printer is not only a rugged workhorse but a great graphics printer and when you add in all the all in functions it is a package that is pretty hard to beat.

Good printer, not perfect
I've used this printer for about 6 months now and so far it's been a very good printer. I went to this printer because the previous all in one printer that I was using (different company) had issues with sending and receiving some faxes. Thus far this machine has handled all of my fax jobs both big and small without any problem. The only issue that I have with the printer is because of the number of faxes I send and receive daily I prefer to send and receive faxes directly from my computer. This printer handles that very well except every morning I have to reset the process to send received faxes directly to my computer. The settings are all correct, I just have to remind the printer to send incoming faxes to my computer. Other than that the printer is great, ink usage is better than any other brand that I have tried and I've tried several. The multiple paper trays are very handy, I print forms from one and plain paper from the other while keeping envelopes stocked in the slot. The envelope tray doesn't hold a large quantity but my daily usage is within it's capacity so that's not a problem. Finally the print quality seems to be very good. I print a fair number of graphs and reports for clients and the presentation quality is excellent. Overall I've only used the printer for six months so that is a small sample size but so far it has been an excellent printer

Not a good investment
I purchased this machine for my small business as well as an additional warranty. Well without 9 months of using it, it started to run yellow ink. I did my research and learned this is a major problem the WP-4540.

DOES EVERTHING BUT SCAN
Fine home office printer. Noisy, slow, prints only color, no draft mode to save time or ink, but the "SCAN" function is ridiculous. Not once have I been able to get it to work easily. Default is tiny photograph scan. Really poor.

Epson WorkForce WP-4540
So far this all-in-one printer/copier/scanner/fax has been great. Used it to replace a failing other-brand (will emit name) printer that was less than 2 years old. I'm now sold on Epson as the best in the industry. I'm an IT Manager for a CAD Design company, and we've started replacing all of our printers with Epson as the older ones start to fail. This printer has great quality, low cost on ink, the scanner/copier is fast. The Epson software is easy to use and much better than the printer it replaced. The end user is much happier with this machine thus far.

Excellent All-in-One Printer
I purchased this printer for my wife about 18 months ago. She does a considerable amount of printing an faxing and has been very pleased with its overall performance. She's been through 2 printers thus far and the WP-4540 is the only one she's never complained about and has rated as an excellent all-in-one printer. I must add though that the faxing hardware did fail after about a year and the printer had to be replaced. Fortunately I was covered by the extended warranty and was not charged.
By Lou on Adorama - Aug 1, 2013
This printer was great. I bought it in March 2012 and had only printed 637 pages total when all of the sudden it starts spraying yellow ink stripes from the top of the page to the bottom. I went to the Epson Support site to see their resolution for this problem ad found nothing. However in the reviews I found where others were experiencing the same problem. I then googled the issue and found review after review describing the same yellow ink problem. I also found a YouTube Video showing the problem in great detail. It will be difficult to buy another Epson printer considering this problem after the printing of only 637 pages. I have also seen others responding that Epson has pulled the replacement parts from parts sites without offering a substitute part that doesn't have the problem. After replacing the ink cartridges, my final cost per page was approximately 85 cents each. !Outrageous! Buyer Beware!!!

A WORTHWHILE ADDITION
The quality and dependability of the WP-4540 has surpassed my expectations. It is easy to use and has been issue free. The print quality, I believe, has been better than my previous laser printer. I have used Epson printers since 1990 and highly recommend the WP-4540.
By Mat on Adorama - Aug 1, 2013
Slower than dirt. That's the best description of the 4540 I can give. It sets in our junk room at the office now. I wonder if Epson will take it back.
By Trace on Adorama - Aug 1, 2013
Slow print speed
I've had 3 4540s. I generally like the concept of getting away from lasers with the associated problems of replacing the cartridges and drums. The first 4540 I had went back as it constantly jammed the paper. The other 2 that I have seemingly do not have this problem. The only real problem that I have with the machines is that they are not as fast as "advertised".

I now own TWO of these printers and love them! I operate a one man office in my home and have found this to be the best printer of MANY that I have tried. Cartridges last a LOT longer than most printers and the print speed is very fast. Not sure I'd use it to print pictures but for B&W documents, it's awesome!

I do a lot of scanning ...
I do a lot of scanning and printing and the printer is very user friendly. There is one thing I do not like about it, when I scan I always name what I scan, and the printer numbers everything I scan so after I save I need to rename what I am saving so I can delete the numbers, I wish there was a way to turn off the numbering of documents that are saved.

Great printer but
This printer has been good for the last year with only a couple of problems. Replacement policy of the printer within warranty is a bit of a hassle (a full replacement cost deposit is required before they ship out a new one) and if you run out of any of the color inks, you're not able to continue printing in B/W until those color inks are replaced. An undocumented feature as my husband would call it. Once business budget allows I'll be switching from in office product label printing on this Epson to a print vendor.
