Strengths: Classic Design; Excellent plain paper color output; sharp text printing; Sharp photo printing.

Weakness: Loud paper feeder; prone to clog printheads; printhead cleaning process unreliable; uses excessive, EXPENSIVE ink.

Very pleased with sharp looking printer, AND sharp images that it produced when first purchased 16 months ago. SHOCKED at how fast ink cartridges ran out. Printer software suggests that you replace a cartridge with 20% ink remaining. The DuraBRITE ink is EXPENSIVE. Tried generic ink, but it clogged the printheads. Not once but TWICE Epson sent replacement when under warranty. FORCED to use expensive Epson inks. Must be careful to turn the printer off, rather than have it plugged to a main switch, AND must use it on regular basis, or will clog & cleaning process uses a lot of expensive ink in the cleaning process. This last time the cleaning process did not do the job. Am trashing this model, and staying away from EPSON inks.

Strengths: USB competible (bought separately) and cable

Weakness: Noisy, big footprints, un-matched fonts and poor tech suuports

It is a lengthy wait if you have to turn it on each time in use. Makes grinding noises as it decides to get warmed up. In despite of software update, the fonts won;t match with screen fonts. This could be devastating if you print publishing materials. Currently, it pops error message of not recognizing the ink cartridges I replaced in dispite the fact that I changed two new ones. It has been four weeks and two email to tech supports with no response but get a survey instead. I finally called and talked to someone in a defensive mood in Canada. No fixes provided but the guy tried to charge me for the conversation. Poor product with poor tech supports, it's time to look elsewhere.

Strengths: Good color print quality and customer support.

Weakness: Extremely loud; uses tons of ink when cleaning the printer heads; very expensive ink cartridges.

This printer prints well when it is working, but have had to replace it 3 times since first purchasing it 3 years ago. It seems that everytime I've had to change out the ink cartridges when they have gotten low, and put in new ones, the printer fails to print - the printer heads are moving, but nothing appears on the page. Luckily I have not had to pay anything out of my pocket to replace the printer, thanks to Epson's good customer service and replacement policy. As long as the printer has been purchased or replaced within a year, they will send me a new one; they even cover the shipping. I know Epson has a good reputation so I will chalk this up as just bad luck picking the wrong printer of theirs. I am currently in the market for a photo printer and am looking at the Epson PictureMate. I have read good things about it so hopefully I will have better luck with it.

Strengths: Black print good; speed is good

Weakness: Yellow cartridge does not work; loud; ink goes quickly

Very unhappy with this printer. Yellow cartridge worked for first few days now won't work...replaced cardtridge 2X and cleaned nozzles repeatedly. Seems I am not the only one with problem. Am giving this printer back and will never buy another Epson Stylus printer again! What a waste of $100. Had less expensive color printers that worked better. EPSON tech support of no help.

Strengths: Long lasting ink does not smudge. Surprisingly good photo prints.

Weakness: Obnoxiously loud paper feed. Poor product life.

I've had good luck with Epson products in the past, but am very displeased with the C82. I've been a loyal Epson printer and scanner customer for years, but no more! When I first bought the C82, I was taken aback by the "gunshot" when the paper starts to load. Thinking something was wrong, I contacted tech support, who said it was a necessary consequence of their "high speed" printing. (It didn't seem to me that it printed noticeably faster than my old, quieter 740, but okay .) I got somewhat used to the noise, but my real objection is that the C82 simply quit working after the original black ink cartridge was expended during the course of a multipage job. When I installed a new, overpriced, genuine Epson cartridge, it wouldn't print. I spent hours trying to get it working again, then in desperation, contacted Epson. Tech support kept quoting the manual. When finally convinced that I had already read and followed its suggestions, they told me to trash the C82. (Actually, they said to have it repaired, but that would cost more than a new printer, so it amounts to the same thing.) I initially thought my experience was unique, but judging from other comments on this site, it was not. I paid $150 for the C82, about a month before the price dropped to $100. :< (That happens all the time with electronics, of course). Add $32 for a replacement cartridge that I can't use and I wound up paying about $.30 per copy (excluding paper) based on Epson's estimated life of a black cartridge, 600 copies. That's deplorable!

Strengths: When it works, it works OK

Weakness: Has to be used all of the time

If you let the printer sit for a while the ink just dries up and you have to keep cleaning the head. Eventually the ink clogged the whole system and it wouldn't work anymore no matter how many ink cartridges I bought. I tried cleaning it with no avail. Had to throw it away. I WILL NEVER BUY AN EPSON AGAIN. Many people had the same problem

Strengths: Faster than the older C62, separate cartridges for each color. Feed alignment fairly consistent. Clean text. Good photo quality with 300dpi sources.

Weakness: Uses a lot of ink – but so do a lot of inkjets.

Used with Dell Inspirons on a D-Link radio network and Mini-server under Windows 2000 Professional -- one has to remember to switch the printer on before printing -- it doesn't wake up well under this arrangement. Setup and software installation were straightforward and easy to understand.I've been quite happy with the results so far. At about $80, it delivers really good value for the money.

Weakness: noisy paper feed, inferior print head, expencive ink

The paper feed is so niose that when I have friends over and I'm printing they have all asked if there is somthing wrong with my printer. As for the inferior print head, over the last two weeks or so when printing in black ink only I started to have lines of print that would have only part of the letter. So I ran the head alinement utility with no effect. This problem just keeps getting worse.Today I went into MS Paint and made a black page and printed it in normal, fine and photo all I got was bands of gray lines. I'm sure this is due to a clogged print head,I ran the head cleaner utility 10 times with no effect.Search clogged printer head on yahoo and see all the epsons tha are there.

2 Star Review   By member zman - Jan 11, 2004

Strengths: Print speed, quiet operation once job is started, decent photo quality, seperate ink wells for all colors, Price

Weakness: Gunshot noise upon initial paper feed, not sold on photo quality of Durabrite inks.

This printer was purchased for 29 shmookers after rebate, which is less than one ink cartridge would cost! The printer itself is fast, produces adequate photo prints, and operates quietly once things have started. However, on start up, the paper feed mechanism verily explodes with a loud bang, grabs the paper, then prints quietly. It catches you off guard every time. The DuraBrite inks produce a muddy photo-quaility picture, and is a dissapointment after the excellent results I got from my Epson Stylus 880, which the C82 replaced.(update: the c-82 died due to print-head failure after less than two years. Shame on Epson for putting out a product with such a miserably short lifespan.)

Strengths: Price, quality prints, ease of use.

Weakness: Lacks printed manual, ink is too expensive.

I'm highly satisfied with the prints (while it lasted). However, it broke in less than a year...and of course after the 90 days. At the end of it all, I'd call it a bad purchase. TOTALLY HEART BREAKING!!! It is loud when printing and "moody" at times (you might have to restart your PC or unplug and plug again printer. EPSON should start including printed manuals in their products.

Strengths: It prints good color on pictures at higher resolutions. I like the water resistant ink. It's quieter than the C80 I used to have.

Weakness: Noisy on paper infeed. Uses a lot of ink. Has proven to be no more reliable than the C80 it replaced.

Uses a lot of ink. The C82 Genuine Epson yellow ink head quit working when it was replaced with a new Genuine Epson yellow cartridge. The print head acting up is why I got rid of the C80 I used to own. I learned my lesson. The replacement for this piece of junk will be a HP printer. At least the printer heads are replaced with a new cartridge. Don't tell me about the Epson return policy. The last time I talked to an Epson service rep, I spent 30 min. trying to get the address of a service department in the state of my choosing. The "nearest service facility by the computer" is not necessarilly the most convenient for me! Cheaper isn't necessariy better.

Strengths: Fast operation. Crispy text and accurate colors of the images. Water resistent ink(s) is a major plus.

Weakness: Noisy feed of paper. Could see better and more detailed printing tips for photos. Colors on my pictures can suddently be off balance without any warning. It clears after a normal 'cleaning session'.

Quality product at affordable price. I paid $84 for it but currently at major dealers around town you can have it for $60. Very recently around town you can even have it for $29 after rebate. This made me wonder why the WEB prices are still high. Are we talking about the same machine? I was disappointed at first at the photos printed out of this machine. All of them seem 'washed n' pale'. I tweaked the print preferences by setting at "glossy paper" with "best photo" coupled with "photo enhanced". I also changed picture quality from "hard" to "vivid" under the advanced/continue button. Suddenly all my pictures jump to life! I have been using generic glossy papers or glossy papers by other name manufacturers. The excellent print results propagated through all glossy papers. Color is vibrant with excellent saturation. I don't even need to use Epson inks. I started using some compatible inks that I purchased on the WEB. The results are very satisfactory! I'm quite happy with the pictures printed on JetPrint Photo Glossy paper that I bought at $9.99 for 60 sheets(8 by 11). I then tried using Epson Glossy papers to print the same pictures. I did not see any difference! At $19.99 for 120 Epson Glossy Paper sheet I printed all my photos full page. I received admiring comments all the time! It's absolutely a breeze for regular documents print job I'll definitely recommend this machine at $60. This is top-notch entry level printer if you don't mind the noisy paper feed.

Strengths: Fast, high quality prints, great affordable price for a unit of this caliber!

Weakness: Noisy paper tray feeder.

I am simply sold on Epson printers. This unit is my fifth and all of them work great! This unit surpasses all my previous Epson printers and is simply a work horse! I was able to print a test page immediately after taking it out of the box and hooking it up! This unit has 4 inkjet cartridges: 1 black and 3 color, and the combined size of the tanks appears to me that they hold far more ink than any of the previous tri-color cartridges that I've had before! As far as print outs go, they are crisp and clean! Bight vivid colors and great black text. After purchasing this unit I am highly recommending it to all my friends!

Strengths: Excellent color printer for photos and graphics at a very good price.

Weakness: Somewhat noisy paper feed mechanisim at start of print cycle.

This is the third Epson printer that I've owned. The C82 exceeds the first two, and they were fine printers. I am a professional photographer, so I use the printer primarily for printing color and b&w photos. Contrary to other reviews, I get outstanding results with my prints. My file sizes range from 10mb to about 55mb, at 360 dpi. I print these files at an 8x10" size. For paper I use the Epson Glossy Photo Paper (available in 120 sheet packs at Costco for $20). When I make a good quality archival print, I use 100% rag, acid-free paper. This paper can run as heavy as thick card stock; the C82 takes this paper without a problem and the color printing (even on textured stock) is outstanding. As a bonus, the C82 uses Epsons' DuraBrite inks, these are guaranteed against fading for 70 years and with Epson paper, they are even water resistant. There are many factors that go into getting good quality prints. Number one is having an original that is of sufficient pixel size and resolution to print well. Secondly, highly compressed jpeg images do not print well. If you are using a digital camera, use the highest pixel size and the fine resolution setting. Better yet, use either .tif or raw file formats. I have shot many digital images using both a Canon G2 and G3; the printed results rival images scanned from 35mm Fuji Velvia film. Take your time, follow the instructions, start with good quality originals... your friends will envy the results.

Strengths: Fast

Weakness: Poor photo printing.

Not nearly as good at photo printing as my old Stylus 880 or even my older Epson 740. The printer is very fast. I guess I'll continue to use the 880 for photos and the C82 for fast jobs.

Strengths: Prints quickly

Weakness: pictures are grainy when printed, fine when viewed on monitor.

Bought this printer because salesman said that it was one of the best for pictures in this price range. I find it terrible. When I view a picture on my monitor, it looks great but when I print it out, I am totally shocked at the results. They are terrible. I expected some degradation but nowhere near the amount thatI got. So far, I have not kept one picture that I have printed. I am using the software that came with the printer and I have yet to figure out how to centre a picture on the page. I am beginning to wonder if it is the software that is the problem. Based on what I have seen, I wouldn't buy another one.

Weakness: LOUD

THIS WAS THE BEST PRINTER I HAVE EVER PURCHASED. I AM DOING WEDDING INVITATIONS AND IT HAS SUCCESFULLY PRINTED AROUND A THOUSAND THICK ENVELOPES. INK HAS WENT DOWN ABOUT A TENTH AFTER ALL OF THIS. THE PICTURES ARE ALSO GOOD QUALITY AND A MILLION TIMES BRIGHTER THAN MY HP PSC 750

Weakness: Installation CD dont work, Tech support sucks.

I brought the C82 printer because of its speed, however I have been unable to install it properly on my PC. Tech support was of no help, They refered me to Microsoft or HP to solve my installation problem. Epson need to redesign the installation software.

Strengths: Crisp clear images and text on plain paper, water resistant ink, fast printing, individual and inexpensive ink cartridges,

Weakness: Paper feeder is very loud, but prints quitely

After reading some of the reviews for this printer I was a little reluctant to try it out, but since it was the only printer on the market that meets all my needs (individual ink tanks, water resistant ink, high resolution, and under $150) I had to try it out. I am glad I did. The paper feeder is noisy, but at least with this printer the noise is over as soon as the paper is in the printer. I also read reviews that stated the ink was expensive. This is this printer has the least expensive name brand cartridges I've ever seen. With my Lexmark I paid as much for one tri color cartridge as I would pay for all four colors with this printer, and the ink for the BJC6000 that this printer is replacing ran about $1.00 more per cartridge, plus $75.00 to replace the carriers, if the printer heads dried out. By comparison, this printer is very economical. All of the photos that I've printer have looked wonderful. Flesh tones are perfect, and text is very crisp. I've had a particularly hard time with one font in general, not printing right on other printers, and this printer handled it quite well, no fuzz at all. And this is the only non laser jet printer I’ve tried out that passed the “spit and smear” test. The ink really is water resistant. Overall I’m very pleased with this printer.

Strengths: Inexpensive, compact, crisp printing, relatively inexpensive ink.

Weakness: None.

The people who complained about excessive page-feeder noise must be used to sleeping on a pea. It has worked well, with no jams, no problems. That's the point. I wanted a printer that would work well with Mandrake Linux, and that would give me good, clean text copy at an affordable cost. I followed the recommendations of a Linux printing site and have been extremely happy with the C82. It cost less than $126, including shipping, from Provantage. I got it on a Wednesday morning after ordering it Sunday night, had it set up and running before I left for work. Took about five minutes with Mandrake's easy-to-use set-up utility, printerdrake. I recommend this printer highly, especially for Linux users.

Strengths: Good prints, nice value

Weakness: Doesn't work after 10 uses

Bought this printer at Best Buy back in the end of January. I have not had the time to use it as much as I would have liked. I went to print today, and the paper keeps loading wrong. After trying all of the recomendations in the manual and on line, I called their tech support (not an 800#). I waited about 20 minutes before talking to a person. He had me try one thing to fix it and when that didnt work they said they were going to ship me a new one. Leads me to believe there was more printers with this same problem. Now I have to pay to ship this expensive paper weight back to them. Grrrr. Next printer will not be an Epson.

Strengths: Print quality seems good.

Weakness: Very noisy, takes too long to startup and EPSON support SUCKS!

This printer was highly recommended on PC World Top Printers list. I can't understand how it made the list at all. I can barely live with the noisy paper feed mechanism and the slow startup time, but EPSON's support policies absolutely SUCK! I have found no way to email them, only a snail-mail address and a telephone number, which I am sure is impossible to get through on! Print quality is reasonable. I'm concerned about how fast the ink is being used up. Maybe the HP or Canon printers in this class are better! Try one of them!

Strengths: Great Resolution, Cheap price, Quality of print is very acceptable. Print speed is good but that about it. .........

Weakness: Epson Dura Brite Ink is inferior product. Paper tray sucks and is very Noise; replacement ink is also very expensive about $36 for 3 colors or $11 for individuals and $20-35 for black. Lacking ability

Bottom Line this is terrible printer for what for it’s advertised as. I' will never rile on any of PC World bull#@!! articles and editor ratting after this incident. The C82 is supposedly a photo printer that works fin with matted paper but the ink will not dry properly when using Epson’s own Photo Gloss Paper for photo pic. Even after 24 hours the ink would still smudge slightly, leaving a light film on the surface. I even tried Kodak paper with no luck. I called Epson on this and they said couldn't be explained. At one point representative said they were getting lot inquirers on this issue, with no resolve. My is recombination what ever you do stay away from this printer. In addition I print a allot of CD labels using Gloss Paper and same issues comes up but worse. The CD labels Ink can rub off inside your CD player and it doesn’t take a genus to figure that not good. I’m really upset with this product, but it is a decent all purpose printer for amateurs and anyone who doesn’t really focus on details. Tomorrow I'm returning this piece of junk

Strengths: Fast, clear printing.

Weakness: Paper feed is excessively noisy

My C82 replaces an Epson 740 that died of overwork. The printer is fine but I was taken aback by the noise of the paper feeder on every sheet. It was so loud that Epson's tech support approved a return after hearing it via telephone. The replacement turns out to make the same noise but now that I know it's not falling apart, this is not too severe a problem for me. The noise could be shattering to some users and it will make you think twice about when to print at night or early morning.

Strengths: Fast print spead, has never jammed, produces clean photos, economical spearate ink cartridges, easy to start and use

Weakness: Havent found any yet

I got this printer for flexibility of photos, cards and text. It does all very quickly with very high quality. The ink dries quick and is easy and cheap to replace. I used to have trouble with HP printer that always misfed and have never had that problem with this. Having been printing lots of documents (text book writing)this thing is a printing monster.. copy after copy and it just keeps going. A great machine for an experienced user or a novice user. The separate ink tanks are a great advantage and its fold-up capability is great for saving space. Strongly recommend! For my rating I actually picked 5 stars but it is showing only 4.... its a 5 for me!

Strengths: easy to set up and install, the software is very user friendly

Weakness: NON THAT I CAN FIND SO FAR

the past reviews about this machine were correct, it does make a very loud noise when it grabbes the paper. still it prints text very well, web pages were a tad fuzzy. i dared print a picture on plain paper, the results were excellent.i havent tried to print a picture on photo paper yet,so i can't comment on that. i definetly would recommend this printer to anyone.

Strengths: Fast, good quality/price

Weakness: unnervingly noisy paper feed. Rubbish support

It is fast, but the paper feed makes a horrible grabbing noise which I thought must be a fault - never even received a reply/acknowledgement from Epson over this! Cartridges are relatively small and expensive - no compatible artridges available (yet) and they use the intelli-system so may be probs in future if they do become available. Good quality on normal stock, but not too good for photo work, but at the price maybe shouldn't expect it. Nicer looking than the old 'toaster' C80

Strengths: Very fast, great text quality and photos. Does not take up a lot of room.

Weakness: Very noisy at startup. Small ink cartridges.

Over the years I've bought a total of 8 printers, all okidatas or HPs. At present I have an Okidata 7200 LED Laser for my business. I needed a small inkjet to suppliment my photo needs. I did a lot of research on line and finally decided on the C82. The price was right and I like the price of the separate color ink cartridges. I have printed over 300 color documents and photos with this printer and am amazed at the results. The text was crisp and clear ( I don't know why PC World rated the text as just fair). The photo quality is great for what I want on photo matte paper, Havent tried glossy yet. Most of my paper has been 90 lb card stock and the printer hasen't had any problems handling it. It is a little noisy at startup but I don't have a problem with it. Even after over 300 documents my ink cartridges are still over 3/4s full. Would reccomend this printer to any entry level user.

Strengths: Excellent print quality and ink durability, plus low cost of printing

Weakness: Loud operation, must turn off every night to "cap" ink

Bought at Office Depot and got a $30 gift card so the cost of the printer was $120.00. It prints a photo on matte bright white paper (Epson gives you a few to start) that looks awesome. I download a pic off the digital camera and print it out and it's in the portfolio pronto, so easy. I am also impressed with the ink, it doesn't smear like my Canon Bubblejet which I chucked in the trash because it broke after a year. There is a bit of drama when it starts to print (i.e. banging and clanking around) but it doesn't bother me. I will caution you this, you should turn it off at the printer itself every night because that caps the ink and it doesn't dry out. I didn't use mine for a week and then I had to clean the print head because it dried out. I emailed Epson and they told me to keep in turned off when not in use for 5 hours or more (didn't say that in the manual anywhere!)

Strengths: Quality of print is very acceptable. Printing speed is very good.

Weakness: Very loud operation when feeding paper.

This printer sounds like a Mack truck when it loads paper. It bangs, clanks, and shakes the printer after that it quiets down and functions as designed. I wrote Epson but am getting bounced around there when I ask questions about this issue. Overall I like the printer.

5 Star Review   By member Gregersonsalvage - Oct 6, 2002

Strengths: Fast speed Very sharp text quality even in draft modes. Colors are a bit more accurate than the c80. Very sharp crisp printing. Cheap printing as well. Awesome look style and shape.

Weakness: Slightly muted colors on the premium glossy and photo glossy papers.

I admit I tried to kill this printer. I was kinda adamant about getting another HP but when I looked at the cost per sheet I about gagged. luckily the epson rep was there and showed me this c82 told me the cost per page was lower. I believed him. He was telling me that even though epson says you'll get 1240 pages text you'll get about 1000 which fell in line with my results of putting it up on a office network. I did do some photos with it and overall I have gotten some good results on matte semigloss luster but premium and phot is where it lacked. Its okay to me since I mainly use the matte since it does'nt glare when I do my bussiness charts and photos. The printer so far has been top notch just like its older brother the c80.
