Epson XP800 Printer
5 Star Review   By Henny on Adorama - Oct 3, 2013

I am extremely pleased with the XP800. This is my first wireless printer. The setup time was minimal. The quality of the print (both text and photo) is excellent. A vast improvement over my previous printers. Considering the price point, I highly recommend this model.

XP-800
4 Star Review   By Woog on Adorama - Oct 2, 2013

I like the speed my print outs arrive at. I don't see much difference in the quality of the photos and paintings that I print from the quality of my earlier Epson. I wish the back feed took more that one paper at a time. Sometimes I can't print multiples on photo paper. I receive a "Paper Out" message.

Super Excellent Printer
5 Star Review   By catfisn on Adorama - Sep 30, 2013

Just purchased the EPSON XP-800 PRINTER It is simply an outstanding printer. Ease of use gets a 10+. Great instructions ,including on screen graphics on each step of operation.. Print quality is outstanding. Direct printing to CD/ DVD is a breeze, again with displayed graphics showing how to print directly to discs. Software was great for each option the printer performs. Network setup was easy, the wireless, wired and USB was a snap. Faxing, Scanning and duplex printing are more great features. Not to be overlooked is the USB, and multi card reader. The direct printing on a DVD disc had professional results. Over all I would give the printer a rateing of seven stars if I could.

easy setup
4 Star Review   By hanky on Adorama - Sep 28, 2013

overall it was good All-in-One product, while it has plethora of software add-on and functions, for home office, scan and OCR, along with graphic design needs, this a good easy choice, not for the printing cost of course, that is already know, all else are functions, that I use the most while working home.

4 Star Review   By Jer on Adorama - Sep 27, 2013

The XP 800 SUCKS DOWN INK. My 837 was NOT that way. I took 800 due to BESTBUY not being able to replace my troubled 837 with another 837. I like Epson's I have another photo mate to do small 4 x6 only. I like being able to PRINT ON TOP OF C D's & D V D 's. With the 800 & 837.

XP premium 800 small in one
5 Star Review   By Petlover1 on Adorama - Sep 25, 2013

I bought this printer because I like the small size, and that it still does everything. I was worried I would need to ask a technician to come set it up with the wifi and AirPrint having read several reviews where people had problems. The instructions are very clear and I decided to try before calling a technician. I couldn't be more pleased! Everything went seamlessly and worked the first time! It works for the AirPrint or epson connect as well. No more running up and down the stairs to print where the printer is! It works perfectly and I would recommend it to anyone in need of such a printer and especially those who feel they are not that experienced to set it up themselves, it will likely build your confidence! Makes excellent photos (prints) too. I need to add I love the flat paper trays or cassettes no more crooked loaded paper and it goes through flat and straight the way it is supposed to. I despise those where paper is loaded vertically they frequently get jammed or wrinkled. These cassettes are a perfect solution!

This is one great machine
5 Star Review   By Jeudi on Adorama - Sep 24, 2013

I just finished setting this up and printing a couple of pieces on it. The set up is quite easy, if long. And I am in the over 65 crowd though computer savvy. But still. The color is great. The size is perfect for a home all in one printer. It connects to just about anything you can think of. Prints little photos, legal size and all in between. Love it. Get one!

Great Printer... with some quirks!
4 Star Review   By Peter on Adorama - Sep 24, 2013

Great quality Photo Printer, as usual, but the software controls are a bit unfriendly. Using the Rear Feed Slot is challenging to say the least. It only holds one sheet at a time and when printing from your computer, you must select "Rear Feed Slot" and then hit the Print button, and then wait for the printer to be ready, and then, only then, ADD the one sheet of paper and hit the illusive "Diamond" print button (which until this point has been completely invisible!!) on the printer! Otherwise all sorts of additionally frustrating things happen. The other thing I have noticed is that scanning documents to the Computer using "Scan to PC - PDF" scans at high resolution and creates VERY large, but nice quality, PDF files. However downloading and installing "EpsonScan" allows you to control scanning from the computer and therefore change the resolution to a reasonable value (I like 150 for basic document PDF files). Only other issue I have after 12 hours of ownership, is that the motorized Front Tray and Control Panel do not self-retract when you turn off the power. They open on their own just fine, but do not close/retract on their own and "Pushing" them closed feels a bit damaging. All these issues could be resolved by software changes. Spending 18 minutes on the phone waiting for customer service, and then another 15 minutes "wrestling" with the rep. while experimenting on the printer, I discovered the "Rear Slot" solution myself. FYI: DO NOT place the sheet of paper in the rear slot until the "Printer Screen" says something convoluted about the "Rear Feed-Slot Support Stick" and then press the "Diamond" shaped button. Other than these issues I like the unit! EPSON engineers need to do better real world testing and re-design their software interface to be more user friendly. I mean really, why would any printer spit out the paper you added because you added it too soon, and why are half the "Virtual Buttons" invisible at any given time?????

Disappointed and Expensive
1 Star Review   By Barb on Adorama - Sep 23, 2013

This is our third Epson printer. This one is a complete disappointment: 1. Printer heads clog continuously. NEVER had that happen on previous models. 2. Constantly doing the nozzle check and clean. 3. Due to constant nozzle check and clean, the cartridges run out of ink. 4. When I finally figured out it was a faulty printer cartridge, upon returning it, the store gave me no hassle at all. HINT-They've seen it before. There is something seriously wrong with this printer AND on top of it all, to buy the 'recommended' XL cartridges, you can only get them through Epson online. Or at least, that's my experience. Sad.

buy anything else
1 Star Review   By mtnrose on Adorama - Sep 18, 2013

but not this one. Its very unreliable, needs frequent maintenence which eats tons of black ink. Then it eats more ink just to print a few great pictures (if you are lucky). Useless for printing text because black cartridge plugs easily so you waste more ink cleaning nozzles and printer head. It still doesnt work but then you have no ink left.... and nothing has been printed. I have returned three of these.

Epson XP-800 Software could use updating
2 Star Review   By Carlos on Adorama - Sep 17, 2013

I just installed this software to my Mac. I set it up wirelessly thru a network thinking everything would work. I purchased this product because I wanted a wireless printer and the direct CD/DVD printing capability. I also read much about the reputation of Epson printers. The CD Print software does not recognize the printer unless connected with a USB cable. Then there is a problem scanning direct from the printer to the PC that warns of a communication error. The control panel on the printer does not auto detect or allow for the section of the flatbed of the document source. When I try to scan using the Epson Scan software there are no provisions to auto detect or select if the scan is from the flatbed or the document feeder either. It only scans from the flatbed. However when I use the image capture software on my Mac it allows for the selection of tshe flatnbed or document feeder and the printer works fine scanning. I spent the better part of a day restarting both the printer and the computer. I reinstalled and even updated the software and I,m truly disappointed with this nice printer

First look
5 Star Review   By Don on Adorama - Sep 13, 2013

I purchased this Epson XP 800 as a replacement for an other brand that had gone south after a few years. The setup instructions were crystal clear, but make sure you read the startup notes before setting up. The printer was set up in less than an hour and working wirelessly from my desktop iMac, my MacBook Air set up next to my digital piano I use for composing and from my iPad in the living room. The text print is clear and especially noted was how clear the musical score was, even to the very small triplet notations. The proof of any product, however, lies with its longterm service. So far I have printed out abut 150 pages of B&W text, several pages of mixed B&W and color, about a dozen color photographs and several B&W and colored full page copies and have yet to make dent in the ink supply. After more use, I will return with another review to tell how it works in the long run.

Hate this printer
1 Star Review   By FrustratedUser on Adorama - Sep 11, 2013

We've been an Epson family for years. I've loved them all, but really loved the last Artisan. I hate the XP-800. Quality of text printing has been sub-par. All of the sudden, the cartridges can't be read, quality of printing deteriorated, and I've wasted a ton of ink cleaning the heads -- still isn't working properly. I will be contacting Epson tomorrow to see if I can buy an upgrade to one of their quality (please) printers. Very frustrated.

4 Star Review   By Print, print, print on Adorama - Sep 11, 2013

Considering the price, I consider this machine very versatile. Printing quality is over and above what was expected. Conversely, it has a noise factor. I will be anxious to see how the ink cartridges perform.

The Jury is Still Out on This One
3 Star Review   By BURDO on Adorama - Sep 8, 2013

Purchased the XP800 in Mid-July and by late August I had a problem that required replacement. Up until that time, the printer worked beautifully and I was very happy, anticipating it's performance and long lasting service would match the other 4 Epson printers I have worn out over the years. It lasted just over a month before it quit printing text. Epson replaced the printer, but at this time I can only rate the printer as average. If it continues to perform without any problems, I would give this model a 4 or 5.

Good printer
4 Star Review   By MikeyD on Adorama - Sep 8, 2013

I had did some research on this printer and saw that some people had trouble with it right out of the box. I deceided to purchase it because I have an Ipad and will soon get an Iphone. I printed from my Ipad to my printer from across town, so that works fine. I hope that it works for the Iphone as well. It was easy to setup and I have no problem with having to push the tray back in, but I wonder after a lot of times doing that if it will hold up. I did purchase the extended warrenty. I don't do pictures for the photo print, but the colors look good on bright white paper. The one thing maybe that could do without is the blue light for the power button, kinda annoying with it flashing off and on again. I so hope that it works on an Iphone, which I would want to print from when I get the new Iphone5s or 6. I will wait to give it a 5 until I get my Iphone.

Upgraded EPSON
4 Star Review   By Epson User on Adorama - Sep 7, 2013

I find the EPSON printers easiest to setup and reliable for many years. This printer was quick to setup out of the box and began working once the software was loaded with no problems. Only issue is that about every 2-weeks it loses wireless connection and the network must be found again and pw re entered. No other issues besides that.

Good Printer for Price
4 Star Review   By Anonymous on Adorama - Sep 5, 2013

It does a quality job at printing documents which is why we purchased it. Only problem so far has been connectivity. Not sure what the causes it, but if I go a day without printing to it, it shows on my computer as still being there, but can't print to it, get a printing error and of course Windows 7 does not tell you what the error really is. If we turn off printer and back on, it then will print the document without any problems. This happens on all the computers on my home network. I have not tried printing pictures yet because we have an Epson 2000 printer for pictures, so don't really need it for that.

XP-800
5 Star Review   By Jim on Adorama - Sep 4, 2013

The XP-800 is exactly what I was looking for. The quality of the photos is excellent. Better than I expected even though Epson printers came very highly recommended by a professional photographer friend. Set-up with my wi-fi was a piece of cake. That was a must for me. If you are looking for a low cost photo printer for prints smaller than 8.5x11, this is worth considering. As far as general printing and scanning are concerned, sharpness is also very good.

great little printer
5 Star Review   By Crazy Beader on Adorama - Sep 3, 2013

We have only been using the printer for two days but so far both my husband and I are very pleased. I went to print two pages and it automatically printed on both sides of the paper. I told this to a friend and she immediately asked for the details so she could buy one. The colors are bright and the printing is crisp. My husband printed a birthday card on our old printer and then on the Epson XP800, the Epson won hands down.

Epson XP-800 Small-in-one printer
2 Star Review   By Poorboy5764 on Adorama - Sep 1, 2013

I took the first one back within the first month due to poor printing out of the 273xl black printer cartridges. The store replaced the printer with no problems. I have now used the second printer for about 8 months and I am NOT very happy with it either. The printer was easy to setup, but that is where everything stops. The printer uses way to much ink! The ink cartridges dry out way to fast even the ones purchased from the online epson store. Then to do a head cleaning to try to get the printer working again you can just sit and watch the ink levels go down fast with each head cleaning. Will NOT go with this brand printer again!

design fault
3 Star Review   By Lenny on Adorama - Aug 31, 2013

Epson, you could have put a two directional motor that would have retracted the output tray when you power down. Some of us that don’t have a lot of space and can’t afford to have the tray extended out six inches passed the printer. And manually pushing it in all the time doesn’t sound like a good idea. You really need to rethink this one.

The XP800 replaced our Epson CX 5000 that finally got worked to death. It took 10 minutes from opening the box to having it installed on my IMAC, Windows 7 Custom PC and two Iphone 5's. The print quality is excellent and with Epson Connect our world just got a lot smaller and more productive. The wireless and USB hook ups were seamless.

Good Printer!
5 Star Review   By Chente on Adorama - Aug 28, 2013

I have had my printer a few months now. I is working nicely. Only drawback is that the set up and use instructions are a tad deficient. It took me quite a while to correctly figure out where to load the paper when I first used it. Poor memory had me go thru a bit or work to figure it out. I now have an info file to remind me how and where to load it. Best feature is that it is not an ink hog!!

NICE PRINTER THAT IS EASY TO USE W/O TAKING HOURS JUST LEARNING HOW TO TURN IT ON. ITS QUALITY IS GREAT & DIDN'T COST AS MUCH AS I HAD EXPECTED. THE ONLY DRAWBACK IS PRINTING IN COLOR USES MORE INK, BUT THEN QUALITY IS MUCH BETTER. REPLACING INK CAN BECOME EXPENSIVE, AS IT USES 5 CARTRIDGES. OTHER THAN THAT ITS GREAT.

4 Star Review   By Bodie on Adorama - Aug 25, 2013

Only had this printer a couple of days but it work good so far. Printed off some pictures from a SD camera card and the pictures were excellent and easy to print off. Printed on a CD and that was also excellent. Installing the software and everything else to make it work went very good. Had a little trouble getting my wireless to work from my lap top to print things but it finally went through and works great. All in all so far it is a good printer and has a lot of features and it is user friendly. Would of gave it a 5 but have not used it that long yet.

XP800 is a compact printer that takes up little space.prints at acceptable speed and copies are very good,a good appearance.Drawbacks are small paper storage and unable to set the default paper size as 8.5X11. I tried everything to change the default paper size from 5X7 including time with Epson tech support to find apparently the change is not an option resulting in each time you print you have the extra step to change the paper size.disappointing.

3 Star Review   By countyline on Adorama - Aug 23, 2013

Took a total of 5 printers to get one that worked and even it has issues (warped ADF cover). Installed registration/update software crashes daily. Tech support at Epson is clueless. Epson quality has hit a new low in my book. Print quality doesn't compare to my old Artisan. Print speeds are faster if you consider that a plus. Paper tray is awkward to load, control panel must be in the extreme upward position when printing. the automatic paper tray is flimsy, printing to cd is a pain compared to the Artisan. Overall a poorly thought out and implemented design. 3 stars is a generous rating for this series of printers from Epson.

4 Star Review   By BOBT on Adorama - Aug 23, 2013

When scanning in a diisc immage, it looks as if full size. in the pictures file. the problem is when it is imported into PRINT CD program, it is imported not full size but as a 2X2 picture. it then has to be jocked arround till is up to the full size for printing. This problem does not show up when I am working from another computer running VISTA.

A disappointment for me
1 Star Review   By Anonymous on Adorama - Aug 23, 2013

I spent a long time researching all-in-ones online before selecting the Epson XP-800. I was excited about this printer as it had many features I was looking for, namely a rear paper tray, small overall footprint, impressive scanning capabilities, & excellent photo printing. The unit is very compact, scans very well on custom settings, and produce beautiful photos. However, for document printing, this product is a complete disappointment. I actually returned the first printer I was shipped as I assumed it must have been defective since text quality was so poor. I received a replacement unit which again never produced one single presentable page of text. All text is splotchy & fuzzy, & far, far from crisp. In the 3 weeks I had the second printer, I had to clean the print head twice because of colors unexpectedly dropping out, as compared to previous printers I have owned which required print head cleaning perhaps twice a year. This process uses an incredible amount of ink. Even after the cleanings, printouts would look spotty & unprofessional. I am still unsure how a printer that can print such wonderful photos is unable to print anything else effectively. I returned the second printer as well.

Okay, when it works.
3 Star Review   By FutrAcctnt on Adorama - Aug 22, 2013

I bought this printer about 6 months ago and am already having problems with it. The black ink stopped showing up and was printing very light, so I ran a nozzle check, and the black did not show at all. I followed this with print-head cleanings and after the third one, it popped up an alert that the black was not recognized (with a brand new Epson ink cartridge). I went to town and bought more black ink and installed it only to find the black was still not showing up after the nozzle check. I did another print-head cleaning and then it popped up that the cyan ink was not recognized. I emailed Epson about both, and they responded quickly saying new ink would be sent to me in 7-10 days. Having online classes requires me to print all of my school work, so I am now waiting on ink to see if the problem persists, and not being able to print documents needed for class. I am not going to buy more ink just to have the printer code out and not recognize it. If it happens again, I will be trying to return the printer and get a different kind. I read all the reviews before buying this printer and thought I was getting a good one, but so far not so good. It drinks ink like crazy! I go through almost a cartridge of each in a month only printing school work (which isn't a whole lot) I can't imagine being able to print more than a couple of pictures before needing to get more ink. Maybe mine is a bad one out of the batch, I'm not sure, but this being my first Epson purchase I am not very satisfied. I hope when the new ink gets here and I run the nozzle check, everything will work correctly and stay working correctly for the next few years. Until I receive the ink and re-run nozzle check, I cannot recommend this printer due to its faults after print-head cleanings and the fact that it uses so much ink. I will update if working properly once the ink arrives. I want to add that customer support has been wonderful with quick responses and they are sending me new ink to try in the printer.

XP-800 Good So Far
5 Star Review   By sirrockalot on Adorama - Aug 22, 2013

Good desktop size. Windows 7 setup with a wired Ethernet connection was seamless. No issues at all which seems like a first whenever installing a new piece of hardware on a network. Print speed is good, color good, overall a 5/5. Only thing I wish they put into this design is a 250 sheet paper tray, simply for the convenience.

Small-in-one aptly named
5 Star Review   By Gerry_N2GJ on Adorama - Aug 20, 2013

This compact printer/scanner/copier/FAX machine supports AirPrint, our iMac and PCs equally well. Setup was straightforward, including setup for remote printing via Google Cloud printing & Epson's own Epson Connect remote printing feature. Printouts are brilliant, photos (be sure to use their photo paper as we have had poor results using leftover HP photo paper) are quite nice. Paper feed seems fine. Our only "gripe"? The output tray extends automatically, but must be pushed in manually to retract it if not in use. This is done with much resistance and what sounds like the gnashing of gears! I wish they had put a "retract" setting on the tray that reversed the motor. I actually wondered if this was intended! It almost feels like you might be breaking something. All-in-all, it's a nice update/companion to our two-year old Epson Artisan 720 which did not support AirPrint. BTW, it's still in use & has never given us problems.

Avoid this machine
1 Star Review   By Alan on Adorama - Aug 11, 2013

Right now, sitting unused at the end of my desk, is my Epson Expression Premium XP-800 Small-in-One® Printer. It's my second one. The first wouldn't print correctly. Streaked, blotchy, prints. Ran countless head tests and changed all the inks for brand new cartridges--no go. Brought it back, swapped it out for the same model because, I thought , anyone's entitled to a screw up and Epson's always been good by me. New one printed and scanned okay for a few weeks. Now my computer can't see it and it can't see my computer. Bought a new printer cable. Didn't help. Reinstalled software. Didn't help. I bought this with the extended warranty so, I'm covered there when I bring it back, but it's going to be a long time before I return to Epson products--and after 15 years of satisfaction with other Epson equipment that's a hard thing to have to say.

XP800 is a winner
5 Star Review   By MEFNavarre on Adorama - Aug 8, 2013

Went with the XP800 after my older printer lost its printhead. Was anxious about installing a new system and setting up networking, but it took only two hours from tearing down the old printer to tying in both computers to a wireless net. That included time wasted trying to find my network password. Clean type and quick printing time. Nicest feature is the output tray that slides out automatically. Two suggestions: make the tray slide back in at powerdown, and let the printer power up when a job is sent to the queue.

4 Star Review   By ld9381 on Adorama - Aug 7, 2013

This is my 2nd XL-800. I returned the first one because It would not remember the date, and needed the ink heads cleaned EVERY time I used it. This used up precious ink until it ran out and I had only printed a few pages. The print quality was terrible. Epson support tried to help, but nothing they suggested worked. Fortunately, the store where I bought it was willing to replace it. The 2nd one works fine so far, easy set up, excellent printing and copies, very easy to use. I am happy with it.

XP-800 - Good printer, but not without issues
4 Star Review   By HomePrinterUser on Adorama - Aug 7, 2013

The Epson XP-800 is a good printer, with good print quality and speed, but the major issues I have struggled with is using it wirelessly. Specifically, the printer is often not showing "Online" enabling the computer to detect it and use it for printing, when it's on and ready to print. I have tried a number of various use cases to get it to be detected (turn it on before the computer, after the computer, giving it time to be detected, etc.). This problem seems to be solved by removing the printer from the computer as an available printer, and then re-installing it. After a re-install it will work for a while, and then often need to be installed at some point in the future. I have always checked to see if I have the currently updated Epson drivers and software, so that does not seem to the issue.

What an experience
3 Star Review   By Fert Sales on Adorama - Aug 5, 2013

Tech help is great. After replacing the original machine and replacements three times, the last machine performs as expected. Now if it came with a good, clear, not intuitive set of instructions, maybe I could get it to print envelopes the first time without trials on paper, not sending the envelope through unprinted. I'm reluctant to call tech support because I don't want to install another new printer. All in all, it is a good product, we like it as a straight printer and am sure that if we explored and were instructed properly and clearly to use the additional features, it would be a great printer.

Even had someone from the store come set it up and it did not stay. Tried to use it for property sale in another state and ended up scanning and emailing the papers. Would recommend for a good copy, scan, print but not fax.

Good, but...

Generally works well, standard text and photos both print fine. Scanning and faxing are OK as well. The big "Cons" for me are the small capacity of the letter-size feeder tray, and the lack of a front or top single sheet paper feed. A smaller complaint is that not all letters come out readable when printing in draft mode (for example, using Times, the lower case "e" often reads as a "c").
