3.5 Star Review  productwiki.com - Jul 15, 2011

The PIXMA MP600 is a general purpose all-in-one printer, scanner, copier from Canon. Primarily designed for a small amount of home/home office use due to its slow speed and small ink cartridges, the MP600 features an improved printing system from earlier models, dropping the MP520s 4 cartridge system for a faster, more complex 5-cartridge design. With the same improved scanner the MP600 continues to have memory card support with a larger 2.5" LCD display for previewing and selecting photographs to print without the need for a PC. Like the majority of Canon models, the MP600 allows users to print directly from their digital cameras, regardless of brand, without the need for a PC. It also allows for oversized scanning. Features Connectivity: 1 USB 2.0, Memory card reader, IrDA3 v.1.2 Supported paper: Credit Card (2.13" x 3.39"), 4"x 6," 4"x 8," 5"x 7," 8"x 10", Letter, Legal, U.S. #10 envelopes Print/copy speed: ... PROS: (1) Text quality looks crisp even on the lowest quality (ink-saver) setting (2) Much better contrast than lower Pixma models (3) Every tray, slot, and screen fold away when not in use, conveniently reduces footprint (4) Makes new photographs from scanned photographs while still scanning, greatly saves time over having to scan first, then print (5) Significantly quieter than lower/older Pixma models ... CONS: (1) Sheet tray is flimsy when extended (2) Software is susceptible to reporting phantom paper jams (3) Scanned photos occasionally blur at edges

Canon PIXMA MP610 All-in-one printer
5 Star Review   By member wchu - Aug 29, 2008

Strengths: Beautiful color printout, serve as a printer, copy machine and scanner

Weakness: not that easy to scan and use a wireless printer server to send to your PC

The plastic case of this printer doesn't feel cheap. It is light but stable. The attached lcd screen is bright and ease to navigate the control functions. It lacks an automatic document feeder (ADF) and fax support, and I wish it comes with two paper trays underneath instead of one tray plus one feeder at the side, which takes space. It use a separate black cartridge for printing black text, hence the dedicate black in color (4 colors) print looks vivid. It was not easy to send the scan to go to my wireless printer server to my PC. But for this price, I cannot complain much.

Great Printer That Does It All
5 Star Review   By member wolfheels - Aug 1, 2008

Strengths: Versatile (scans, prints high-quality photos and text, duplexes) & Easy to Use (controls are intuitive and functions can be accessed without menus)

Weakness: Expensive ink (but hey, that is how these companies make money since printers are so cheap)

I love this printer. I replaced a scanner and a printer on my desk with one unit no bigger than either I had. I expected the controls to be complicated since this baby could duplex, feed from multiple trays, print from many file sources, and do so much else. I was pleasantly surprised at how intuitive the user interface is. The scroll wheel allows access to all functions without having to guess which menu you need to choose. Graphic images accompany the choices to make it faster. Choosing the top or lower paper feed tray is the simple matter of selecting from two dedicated buttons that have idiot lights to confirm the choice. Even the print driver makes default selections easy.

PIXMA MP610 All-in-One Photo Inkjet Printer
5 Star Review   By member wharfdog - Jul 18, 2008

Strengths: Super printer.

This was purchased as a replacement for a worn out all-in-one printer from a different manufacturer. It is used primarily as a text and graphics printer and photocopier. The quality of printed materials, in both black and in color, is excellent. Copy quality is also excellent. The Canon uses five ink cartridges -- CYMK for color work, a separate black for black-only work. I've been in the computer industry for fifty years and have owned and used many different printers. I highly recommend this printer.

Canon Pixma MP610- A winner!!!
5 Star Review   By member edwardmanuel - Jun 18, 2008

Strengths: Pretty much everything

Weakness: Chipped Ink tanks are expensive

What can you say about a multi-function printer that was highly rated by PC Magazine and ConsumerReports.org? How about it deserves all the praise. It seems to do everything real well. Lots of settings including a quiet mode to set for nighttime printing. It will probably take years before I use all the features it has. So far, my only complaint was that the printer stopped recognizing the yellow cartridge. A quick call to Canon and they are sending me a replacement cartridge. Kudos to the printer AND to Canon support! I'm DONE with Epson.

Canon PIXMA MP610
5 Star Review   By member robinhurt - May 23, 2008

Strengths: The unit has an attractive design, is easy to use, and makes beautiful prints. It is the logical choice for a Canon camera. It's fast too!

Weakness: The ink is somewhat expensive.

I like being able to print directly from the Canon mp610 without having to boot up my computer. It is also convenient to have two different paper trays so I can load one with standard inkjet paper and the other with photo paper. The LCD displays my photos and a scroll wheel makes it easy to select any function. Scanning is fast and easy too, but the photo print quality is really what sold me on the Canon mp610.I looked around before deciding and kept coming back to this model.Everyone who has seen my photos printed from the Canon mp610 has been impressed.I highly recommend it and I am glad that I bought it!

The Best Printer Yet !!
5 Star Review   By member BettyGermann1945 - May 9, 2008

Strengths: It is capable of doing just about anything you want it to do. Whether scanning or printing, it can do it.

Weakness: None that I have seen.

The Canon Pixma MP610 is rather on the large size, but it can do the work you want it to. I printed out all sizes of photos, and they were clear as a professionals. I read reviews on printers for 6 months before I bought and it kept coming back to the Canon Pixma MP610 to buy. I do not regret it yet. I do a lot of photo printing and scanning scroll saw patterns and they are always good and clear. I also like the Onscreen manual that tells you how to do everything you want to do. I especially like the fact that I do not have to go through my computer to do anything.

Strengths: Very easy & intuitive set up, fairly compact size for its capabilities, crisp clear text, vivid photo colors, large LCD screen, beautiful, sturdy design for its size

Weakness: None I've found

I am very picky not only about the quality & capablities of a product, but also of its appearance.Since I was unable to view this printer in the store before purchasing it online,I was a little nervous about the way it would look in person. It completely exceeded my expectations in appearance, sturdiness, quality, and function. I am so happy I decided to make this purchase. It is an amazing printer, taking up a fairly small amount of space in my pretty tiny office space. I just love it & Canon, too!! Buy this & Enjoy!

I rate the 610 excellent
5 Star Review

Strengths: Install is a breeze for a novice like myself,Instructions very easy and detailed. Ink consuption is Fantastic,OEM re-fills & photo paper can be had cheap with a bit of shoppin.

Weakness: I see none.

compared to Dell and Lexmarks I have used,, this MP610 is Excellent. Printing from memory cards is such a breeze. Set up was so simple (I use XP-Pro),Instruction sheet C/D, and manual is well written. Quality of the photos is "pro". Ink consumption is even better than other reviews I had read before the purchase....Abe's of Maine had the Smokin price when I shopped my purchase. The TWO paper feed options is really fantastic,,photo paper in one,,copy paper in the other, one "click" on the paper feed button to switch. 5 Stars from me.

Great value multifunction printer/scanner
4 Star Review

Strengths: excellent quality at this price-point, ease of setup, fast, quiet

Weakness: 3d party ink carts require special handling scanner software is obtuse

This little machine exceeded my expectations and is well worth the price of admission. It performed better than acceptably in every regard, and was surprisingly fast and quiet as well. Color prints with both photographic images and business graphics were good on both photo paper and copier paper (not gallery photo quality but then I’m a pro photographer). Copies in both B&W and color were very good. Scans were better than I thought they’d be. The fit & finish (except for the paper tray) is very good. Its cosmetic design is mediocre (1980’s futuristic, which I guess means now). The control wheel interface isn’t my fave, especially for something so simple, but that’s not worth complaining about. The scanner software (for Mac) is all you can expect from an OEM driver/interface at this price point. The interface is clumsy but at least most features are there, somewhere. Like the machine’s other features, in many ways it delivered more than I bargained for. But sadly THERE IS NO WAY TO DIRECTLY SPECIFY THE ACTUAL SCANNING RESOLUTION. The user can only specify the scan area and the “output” area, and then the resolution of the “output” area. I guess it’s okay since this is how most people using this device (including myself) will probably approach it. In fact, this approach overcomes the common “resolution confusion” in most instances. But you will have to manually do the math, interpolating backwards, if you need a scan at a specific rez. Such a basic setting should be there simply and directly, without such complication. Reviewers of similar products in the family have complained about the limited wireless functionality; I can’t speak to that but I’d be surprised if it weren’t still true. No USB cable is in the box, so factor that into the cost. And have it at hand when you open the box (A-B/M-M You probably have one from the machine you’re throwing away.) I have no doubt that it’s gonna burn ink like a Hummer burns gas. "Give ‘em the razors and sell ’em the blades." If you plan on getting third party ink carts, be prepared: they all require transplanting and resetting the OEM chip. Since I use ultra-pro level scanners and printers (and copy machines) at work, and already have a workhorse laserprinter for text documents, I just wanted something for the down-and-dirty occasional scan or color print or copy at home. For what it is— a multifunction, light-duty, street-quality device- it’s awesome. If you want to do more sophisticated things, or get genuinely high quality, or output significant volume, this ain’t your machine(s).
