GOOD BOARD
5 Star Review

Strengths: A real overclockers board!

Weakness: The bloody irritating woman which tells you what the board is doing.

Very good, very stable and not a bad price considering what you can achive because of it's overclocking ability. The main thing about this board is it's on board sound, "Nvidia Sandstrom" which is unbelivablely good. I would recomend this board to anyone who wishes to overclock.

3 Star Review   By member claude24 - Nov 9, 2004

Strengths: The Nvidia and 3com LAN controlers work very fine. Same with the integrated sound card.

Weakness: Although I am using only an Athlon 2100+ processor, I very often get the message that the CPU is overclocking at start-up. Sometimes, I get the message that I have memory problems.

I do not have much experience with other motherboards of that quality range so I have difficulty to compare. But I have been doing intensive testing on my memory and there was no problem. I checked the setting for the CPU, that was Ok also, so I really dont know why I get teh message that it is overcloking. I just let carry on loading windows and that works fine. Since this board had good reviews, I guess that other boards have the same kind of problems. So, I guess I would still buy this board.

Strengths: All if i can get the computer to work. Will not start up bios or reconize graphic card.

Weakness: not working

Asus tech support was no help they just told me what they think what it is and it did not help any all they did was run my long distance up. This board looks like a kick a$$ board. Only if i can get it o work now that would be Nice and sweet. If anyone knows or has the same problem and got it fixed please email me RLime18@aol.com with the Subject: Motherboard. Strengths: Don't know wouldn't boot.

Weakness: No POST all I got was a blank screen when I booted it up. Fans and LED went on but no POST.

I have triple checked everything and it's all hooked up right but all it seems to do is light up and run the fans. The screen remains blank with my nVidia GeForce4 Ti4200 and my TNT2 which both work in my old computer. I have been to different sites and this problem seems widespread. Asus tech support was no help.

Strengths: On board sound is awesome!!! Very fast! Looks fairly good! 5PCI slots 3 i think that are open for any use Very accesible, Nice features such as fan monitors GREAT PRICE

Weakness: ABSOLUTLY NONE! THIS MOTHERBOARD IS ABSOLTLY THE BEST YOU CAN GET AND IT IS VERY CHEAP FOR WHAT YOU GET

I have had this motherboard in my custom system for around 2 months now and I absolutly love it!! I couldnt ask for more. It comes with free software for monitoring temperature and fans and has built in heat sensors and monitors fan RPM. It is very fast. Everything is very accessible. Makes plugging in and installing sound, video cards etc. VERY EASY.The price is awesome too. I have one VERY minor complaint though. It gets just a tiny bit laggy when you runa lot of applications at once. But all motherboards are going to lag a little when running a lot of apps so I really cant complain. I WOULD HIGHLY RECCOMMEND THIS MOTHERBOARD.I WOULDN"T BUY ANYTHING ELSE!!!

Strengths: Dual channel memory, SATA raid onboard, 8X AGP, AMD XP 3200 capability

Weakness: Sound problems

No doubt this is the best motherboard out for AMD processors. For novice builders tampering with the bios updates can be unnerving and that is what it takes to unravel the sound problems on this otherwise perfect mobo. To add SATA raid card to an existing mobo may cost nearly $100 which approaches the price of this board that has the SATA raid onboard.

Strengths: Great board with all the bells and whistles you could want.

Weakness: Failed memory test warnings occasionally. Long boot time for win 98se.

I love this board. It has onboard sound and dual onboard NIC's. That saved me from having to buy them seperately, sweet! The onboard sound is pretty good, which was surprising compared to other onboard sound solutions. I had the pure luck of getting a rev 2.0 board when they were first coming out so I had the option of running a 400 mhz FSB right out the box instead of waiting for a bios update. The board also comes with 2 sata connectors, and when I eventually get a sata drive I wont have to buy a new MB to connect it. The only problems I have had with this board are the failed memory test reports I get ocasionally. It boots up fine and I dont have any problems playing games or running any programs, its just annoying when it happens for no apparent reason. It also for some reason doesn't like windows 98se. When I ran win 98se on this board the boot time was over 2 minutes and with winxp pro it's 49 seconds. Other than those 2 gripes this is a great board that I wouldn't hesitate to build another system around. Strengths: Quick , Outstanding graphics , Easy to overclock . Boot's fast even with standard EIDE hard drive . Lot's of goodies

Weakness: Runs hot , Draws alot of volt's , Need's a bigger power supply than normal ,

Pay close attention when finding the right Bios version to flash with . You need both the motherboard revision ( located between the first and secound pci slot's example... rev 2.0 ) and the bios file revision (which will come up on the moniter on the top left side on post . example rev c1006)Match both numbers when choosing your bios from the asus web site . And pay attention to your memory selection as the max volt's for the board are 2.8 and some of the memory out there runs as high as 3.0 volt's .I also couldn't put a light kit in because it couldn't handle the extra draw and I have a 420watt powersupply .All in all I'm happy with the way it's running . And really like the utilities Probe to monitor the system fan speeds and tempature .

Strengths: Everything imagineable

Weakness: Asus is still using that turn brown color, not nice for us case modders out there

Well not to mention that this board comes with all of the bells and whistles, it really set the standard when it came to nForce 2 boards. This board is beautiful in everything except color. No problems, and even has to RMA a board becuase of a P/S problem, Asus was very nice and helpful in doing that. A+

5 Star Review   By member StompinRound - Oct 16, 2003

Strengths: Power, stability, online comunity support, overclocking capability, features

Weakness: Very particular about RAM, must use top quality ONLY!

Bios tends to "die" when settings are changed frequently. Recommend use of a Ioss BIOS Saviour, "just in case". A little pricey but well worth it with all the features. 2 NICs installed, Nvidia for Max speed and lowest CPU resources needed. and 3Com for portabilty with auto switching capability eliminating need for special switching cables. The absolute best for AMD XP up to 3200 Be sure to ask for the latest revison when ordering, Rev 2.0 has the Nforce2 Ultra 400 chipset, Pre-2.0 boards are somewhat hit-and-miss on hitting the 200FSB mark and sometimes have issues with onboard sound. But that is to be expected since it was the 1st widely avialiable Nforce2 motherboard

Strengths: Stable, easy to overclock, plenty of connections

Weakness: Expensive compared to some other boards

I’ve been using this board to run an overclocked CPU (2500+ OCed to 3000+) and overclocked memory (DDR333 OCed to DDR400) for about 2 months and it is very stable. It has plenty of USB connections. The only drawback is the price, but I think I made up for it from the overclocking.

2 Star Review   By member Tale_Gunner - Sep 7, 2003

Strengths: Has every option that any computer freek would want in a computer.

Weakness: nForce2 chipset not supported by all vendors.

If you need to update firmware of your CDRW, low level format a hard drive or any other option like that, the software most likely will not work with the nForce2 chipset. Examples: Maxtor hard drive low level format program offered on site does not work. Liteon firmware update put my CDRW out of commision. Both problems were repaired by putting the equipment into another system to perform the functions. Frustrating... The motherboard is great for operations however, the updates loaded from Microsoft and other vendors caused me a hugh amount of greef after loading. Disc copying began to malfunction. Would not complete a entire disc copy operation. Benchmarks are out of this world, but if you are going to keep your system updated with all the latest security and software updates - you will become frustrated with the lack of support for the chipset.

Strengths: Ability to tweak memory settings

Weakness: Not enough fan headers

This board is a good board to crankup because it lets you adjust the FSB plus the memory latency settings. Along with the ability to raise or lower the multiplyer, you have a great overclockers board.I have several duel channel boards and this 1 out of them all is my choice to use for getting the maximum there is to get. I am running a 2800+ Barton cranked up to a 2140.27 Mhz with a 171.22 Mhz Syatem bus and a 12.5 multiplyer. Running Duel channel corsair 512 ddr 400 and 2 10,000 rpm Raptors in raid 0 with 2 120 jigawatt 8 meg buffers western digital hard drives as backup. Plenty of power to run my Sony Dru-510A DVD-RW+RW and a 52x24x52 CDRW.I also have the Vantec thermal fan controller to turn down this tornado 6500 rpm fan that I switched on the CPU cooler. Makes it nice and easy to make things quiet. With 5 case fans and 2 power supply fans the tornado CPU fan is very noisy but it keeps everything very stable.I dont care much for the Radeon 9800 pro card that I have, seems to after searching for tall the latest drivers and everything it is unstable in the game of Medal of Honor. If I put an Nvidia card in there the problem goes away. ATI dosnt care or seem to give a crap so I think I'll just fry this card and mail it back to them to keep.

Strengths: alot

Weakness: some

First Time builder and a novice. Had some frustration but it has all worked out to be a great choice. I highly recommend this board. Read the reviews I got some great advice from the reviews. Even if you have some trouble, and in electronic parts there is gonna be trouble I don't care who makes it, once you get it up and running you won't be disappointed.

Strengths: Includes everything AND the kitchen sink.

Weakness: Linux support not there yet.

Wow. This board has everything on it. It was my first Mobo install and went fairly smoothly, except I still cannot figure out how to properly hook up the HDD LED (and some of the other little wires). The manual could use a larger blow-up picture of that part. I also cannot figure out how to make the boot process stop looking for SATA drives, because I don't have any, but it spends several annoying seconds looking for them on every boot. Neither Debian Woody, nor SuSE 8.2 can detect either of the onboard Ethernet adapters automatically. I've read some people are eventually able to get at least one working. I don't think I ever got the onboard sound working under Linux either, but I've also read that it is possible with a kernel re-compile. As popular as this board is though, I would think that the Linux support will catch up to it. I hope this board is OK, because I am having HD errors and Memory errors. I'll be bummed if I get those components exchanged and it turns out to be this mobo.

Strengths: Nice features, if it would have worked.

Weakness: Would not POST. No beeps, no voice. Fans turn, leds light, but not any amount of jumper setting, cable wiggling, head-scratching, unhelpful Asus HelpDesk advice would work. No PATA Raid onboard.

Asus HelpDesk wasnt helpful. Site went down and communication was impossible. Trying to obtain RMA authorization. Purchased a Gigabyte GA-7NNXP to complete build instead of waiting for a new/repaired Asus A7N8X Deluxe. Sucked!

Strengths: QUITE fast, very stable, feature filled, perfect for entuthiast, and very easy to overclock and tweak. Great Layout.

Weakness: None.

This board is exactly what AMD enthusiasts needed. It holds any existing options to tweak to the limit any part of your hardware. The sole fact that you can lock AGP and PCI speeds help to get the most out of your ad-in cards, and most obviously and important, your CPU and memory. The layout is magnificent and quite well thought, starting by the location of the ATX connector, followed by the correct possitioning of memory solts against the AGP slot... and, of course, the four mounting holes. Stability is top-noch, even when overclocking at more than 20% stock speed. An excellent choice for an AMD Powerhouse.

Strengths: Features. Layout of board.

Weakness: User's manual is very limited on information. Speed of warranty repair & return is the pits.

Hard for novice users to set up MB based on info in user's manual. This is an awesome board with all the features that it entails. Well pleased with it, but after using it for a little over 5 months it went bad. Hey, it happens to the best of things. Tech support was very helpful and obtaing a RMA # was no problem. Board was sent Priority mail from WV to Ca. in 3 days. It took them 5 days to determine that the board needed replaced and another 5 days to ship new board via UPS ground. I highly recommend this board with one word of caution. If it goes bad don't expect speedy warranty repair and return service. I think they should give you a choice of return shipping options if you are willing to pay for it.

Strengths: Performance is excellent. Jam-packed with features. component layout is quite good.

Weakness: No conveniently placed fan header makes supplying power to fans in the front of a typical ATX case a headache...plus, the board doesn't look cool. Typical ASUS-bland. No big deal, really.

The A7N8X Deluxe 2.0 comes packaged with additional serial, USB, firewire connections, CD-ROM containing drivers and utilities. Installation manual is clear and concise. Installation process went without a hitch. Jumpers are well spread out, except for the keyboard and USB power up jumpers, which are inconveniently placed up against a capacitor. Power supply connection could be located higher up the board. Again, not a huge issue. Most component layout on the A7N8X Deluxe is good. AGP card is distant from the RAM slots, and capacitors are not going to interfere with CPU/heatsink footprints. A Swiftech MC462 can be installed with ease. The only major pain with this board is the lack of fan header for the bottom-right region of the board. The nearest header for a front-mounted intake fan is nestled between the northbridge and AGP slot. In other words, use MOLEX connection fans for air intake. Exhaust fan will not have any issues with the board's fan headers. THe board is relatively jumperless, so installation is swift. WIth an XP3000+, ATI Radeon 9700 Pro, and 2 X 512 Corsair 333CL2, the system fired up on the first try. Serial ATA RAID config is equally painless. The pair of WD Raptor 36GB cooperated with the SiiG controller chip. -Asus A7N8X Deluxe 2.0 Bios rev. 1005 -XP 3000+ running 166 (333) mHz bus speed with 13.0x multiplier = 2165mHz -2 X 512MB Corsair PC2700 CL2 -ATI 9700Pro -WD Raptor 36GB SATA X 2 Raid 0 -56X Asus CD-ROM, 48X MSI RW -Audigy 2 standard in PCI slot 4 -Swifttech MC462 -PSU: Antec True 430

Strengths: This MB has most features you want except a display subsystem. Since mostly we wnat to choose that seperately this is not an issue.

Weakness: If you want to run Linux or a Unix, support for the MB features is limited an may require OS work to install.

I purchased this MB for a system that is to be a Linux server machine for 18 months, then a windows box. It is equiped with AMD 2500+ and PC-2700 DDR memory. Works great, i had no problems. The system is very fast. I have installed both XP and RedHat 7.3. Windows worked well with little effort. Linux drivers for the one lan interface, USB, and a few other bits worked easily. Audio, the other LAN, 1394 and other MB features did not. This works well enough for me.

Strengths: Dual DDR400 support Easy BIOS setup Serial ATA Dual LAN 5.1 Audio Fire Wire USB 2.0 and 1.1 CPU overheat protection 333FSB support Nice IDE floppy layout

Weakness: Serial ATA connecter location Joystick header Lack of an optical output cable

Well the performance I gained in the benchmarks wasn't at all what I experienced in my gaming time with this motherboard. I found this system to boot faster and run just about every program I used faster. I was upset that the system wouldn't overclock as high but I will be installing an Athlon 1800+ Thoroughbred CPU soon with an A core. I am hoping to get better results with that chip and that's why I did not include overclocking in my review Complete review avalible at: www.cybercpu.net/revie...

Strengths: SATA RAID, Duel Lan, all the goodies

Weakness: manuel a little weak on installing Serial ATA Raid with Windows XP from Scratch - had to search for the driver for a while. Using the website's download section is hit or miss.

This is my 3rd Asus board. They rock and are stable. The A7N8X Deluxe is the TRUE Cream of the Crop. It has onboard SATA Raid, DDR 333+ support. Running PC2700 in sync requires using dimm 1 and dimm3 or dimm2 and dimm3 be carefull and read the manuel or preformance will lag. Tons of goodies for newbies, intermediates and PRO's alike. Ya cant go wrong with this one.

Strengths: More advanced features and control than my 2 Gigabyte M/Bs.

Weakness: As usual, documentation isn't thorough. Purchased because ATI 8500DV won't work with 266MHz enabled. Guess what, this M/B won't either. Looks like the 8500DV is a giant LEMON!

A good M/B but the tech support website is nearly impossible to get a download from (and I have a cable modem)! Far more flexibility than Gigabyte M/Bs.

Strengths: Great mobo for Novice, Intermediate Pro Experts

Weakness: Asus Tech Support (1)

This board GOES. For those that think onboard sound will put them off the board. THINK AGAIN!!! I am running infineon 512mb 2700 cas 2.5T at aggressive timings - the board actually excels with a breeze as though there were no onboard sound there. Sound is actually rated better quality that Creatives Audigy 2 with onboard Hardware Dolby 6.1. I can say that I will not put my Audigy 2 due back in this board due to the quality of performance the nforce soundstorm packs. I had much fun fine tuning this board with no problems at all. 3D Mark Score was 11578 with 41.09 drivers with only mem running a 177mhz aggressive timings 2.5T.(Infineon!!!) This board excels with amazing stability and is so feature rich. But the technology advances this board posseses means that you can overclock and gamers away with lan parties and not have to worry about hardware damage. This is the ultimate board for gaming. This board though delivers a possible theoretical 6.4 gigabytes /s memory bandwith and its Ultimate performance will lye in buying Dual Channel 333/ 400 3200 plus mem. and to get the best performance you need to run 2x 256 meg twinbank memory dimms for this board. My setup is a Western Digital 120gb 8mg caviar, V8460 Ultra 128 TI, AMD XP 2100+, 1x 512 Infineon 166mhz 2700. Possesing 6x USB 2 and 2x Firewire IE 1394 ports, Sata Raid, 4mb upgradeable Winflash Bios rom. You can do anything to this mobo, To do this mobo justice, i recommend you don't just browse at this board, BUY IT!!

Strengths: SATA Raid, 8X AGP, dual channel memory, Sound Storm, AWESOME board!

Weakness: No EIDE Raid

I've had this board for about a month now, and I absolutely love it. The overclocking options are great. I'm currently running a 2700+ with TwinX Corsair memory. The sound is excellent, even surpassing the audio quality of my SB Live! You won't regret purchasing this board.

Strengths: Great audio, many I/O options, upgrade potential, and stable.

Weakness: None, really. User manual is typical of MB manufacturers, could include more explanation of options.

System consists of retail AMD 2000+, Antec 350watt SLK3700AMB case, two 256MB PC-2700 Crucial Ram to take advantage of dual-channel mode, WD 40GB, Radeon 9500 Pro. Both 3COM/Nvidia LAN ports worked fine with my Netgear PowerLine network - no long delays in seeing the network. Passed POST first time. Be sure to disable the serial ATA jumper if you don't need - default is enabled but will delay boot if none present. When you are in the BIOS, disable any other unused I/O. Sound is great - no need for using sound card. Ditto for NIC card. System is fast. Haven't had to overclock or even use the "Aggressive" timing setting in BIOS. Great game board for a reasonable amount of money. Will upgrade CPU when prices drop and new games demand more power. I highly recommend this board.

Strengths: Dual LAN, 6 Channel Audio on board, FireWire on board

Weakness: Gotta hit the BIOS to squeeze top performance out of the board.

This booard rocks! Great manual! Easy to configure. Slamming performance. ASUS has done it again with this board. Athlon entusiasts, and power users alike will absolutely love this product. It's loaded with all the standard ports as well as a couple that I didn't expect! (IR header and FireWire). If you're an overclocking junkie you'll love this board. The POST reporter kinda freaked me out the first time I started it up, but thankfully you can turn it off if you want to. All in all, a great board with great features at a reasonable price.

Strengths: Features, Features, Features! Community Support

Weakness: Lots of jumpers and connectors, but I can't really complain. I did have driver problems with windows 2000 though.

I bought this board to go with a 2700+, 512 XMS Corsair RAM, Asus GForce4 4200, and a 350 watt Enermax PSU. This is my first computer that I've built, and it took about 2 hours to assemble. The manual is great and extensive. Everything works. As one person mentioned you have to mess with the bios before everything runs at it's specified speed, but its a learning experience. I love all the features and options this board boasts. I had a fun time choosing what I wanted to use, like the option to have the computer turn on when you hit the keyboard or mouse, and connected all the expansion stuff with no problems. Asus makes it extremely easy to flash the bios, which I'd really recommend; if it doesn't work you can always flash them back. I have herd that Asus doesn't have too great of tech support. Their website has been especially troublesome because it's often busy or down. I've used nforcershq.com's forums and those guys are really good. Almost all of them have this board and will reply back to you within 20 minutes! I had an eval version of Win2k and had considerable driver problems, but went to Win98 and had none; soon I plan to get XP up and running. I would recommend this board to pretty much everyone. It's a great gaming board and has enough community support behind it so you will almost always be able to fix your problems.

Built from scratch. 2400+, Radeon 9500 OEM, 40G, 512MB DDR. Everything loads very fast. Just a little lag. Overall, it's a very good board and i have always supported ASUS. Trust me. Get this board. You won't regret spending your money on this board.

The best AMD board I've every had. Just replacing the motherboard on my PC with the Nforce chip jumped the video benchmark on my Ti4200 50% over the VIA chipset. Default setting seem to be a little low but but by playing with the BIOS it rocks.

Can I just say the board ran with no problems what so ever right off the bat. nForce2 chipset combined with an nvidia GeForce 4 or when it comes out GeForce FX, enough said, ATI who? If you had problems with the board installing, maybe it was something you did, or else just got a bad one. I am installing this board in every possible system I sell, Intel who?

Strengths: Has all sorts of built in goodies on board.

Weakness: Fine print in printed manual, tho everything is on CD ROM in ADOBE format.

Built pc for my stepson. Didn't overclock the XP2000 cus this machine will be in a harsh environment. The overtemp protection will no doubt be used come summer. My stepson's apt. on the top floor in Washington Heights NYC with no A/C. I wish the generic case I'd bot locally had a 3wire fan cus the mobo can monitor multiple fans and shutdown the works if fans start to die or if the CPU or mobo go overtemp.

A very well fabricated board with all the gizmo's you could ask for. Make sure you refer to the ASUS web-site for memory types that can be used. You may also upgrade or flash the bios after installation; its very easy with the tools/utitlies that you can download from the ASUS site.

Strengths: Everything... Overclockability, Stability, Reliability, Features, BIOS + D.I.P. Swithces/jumpers, the list goes on...

Weakness: Not much to speak of here. Built in RAID has been known to be a nuisance at times, but it works great for me.

This board is a super fast, full featured board for the 1337 (leet) gamer on a budget, i was shocked when i saw the price for this seemingly high-end nForce 2 board. The performance (paired with the right processor/ram and vid card and set up(if youre gonna be gaming)) will eat your babies, and its also extremely reliable. I would reccomend this board to anyone.
