Strengths: nVidia chipset, stablity, decent price

Weakness: its an mATX

I've used this board for several computers that I have built and have never had a hitch. In fact, the performance of this particular board led to two other sales. For general computing usage, this is a 5 star product, however, I wouldn't consider it for a gaming machine nor is it as upgradeable as an ATX board with support for a higher FSB.

2 Star Review   By member Gentle_One - Oct 28, 2003

Strengths: Cheap, however that isn't much of an advantage as newer boards have since come out for less than $20 more. Has a big name behind it, people see Asus and jump on it.

Weakness: Cheap, un-reliable, un-stable.

I was tickled when I read the great reviews on this board and purchased one. I put it in a good enough case with an Enlight 300w PS and crucial ram. The sound cuts out during games. The workmanship looks shoddy, no amount of driver updates has helped. This board is horrible for games. I know it's not designed to be a gamer, however for simple games it should at least perform on a certain level of performance. I'm not against Asus or trying to intentionally trash this motherboard, just pointing out what I've experienced with it. I would not purchase this one again for anything. I know it's an entry level board, but I would choose otherwise.

Strengths: Very Good all in one board. No real problems with anything.

Weakness: No overclocking tools, but what do you expect, and problems under Linux. No USB 2.0.

I needed a board that would be ready to go with everything included because I needed to get a computer up and running but now I think I've out grown it. I'll probably sell in a month or two after I get a Dedicated Graphics board, I want to overclock my system. I would recommend that any one looking for a low cost board pick one of these up.

Strengths: Cheap. Everything onboard works great. Easy to set up if you do your homework.

Weakness: Non if your not A+ qualified.

I bought this board because I had a small budge. I got more than I could have dreamed. The sound(you don't need Audigy) and Lan(I have ADSL) are excellent. The video is good but not for extreme gaming. For that I added a Gforce4 which installed without a hitch. I reseach the board first thus avoiding the frustration with the CPU/Ram jumpers. The info has been available for a long time. You just have to look. I'm currently running a Athlon XP 2400+ with 512 DDR and have had no problems running Medal of Honor or Jedi Night2. I love this board and will some day upgrade to a new generation of A7n board.

Strengths: Small and compact. Used low profile case to maximize desktop space.

Weakness: Having trouble with good nforce drivers. Having issues with memory leaks when transfering files from one computer to another using the onboard Lan. Suspect driver issue. Using the most recent drivers.

This board has not been an easy one to work with. When I fix one problem with driver issues, whether it is the onboard video or networking or sound, another one develops. It seems to be related to NVIDIA. I am using win ME. If it I could get the Lan to operate correctly, it would be a great business machine.

Strengths: everything on-board

Weakness: no drivers for BSD; only proprietary drivers for Linux

This is probably a decent board for Windows. It's a big pain for Linux. You need special drivers from nVidia for everything from networking to the on-board video. You can certainly get it to work, but you need more than a standard linux installation and kernel configuration. I haven't yet found anyone who has succeeded in getting the on-board ethernet working in FreeBSD. Reports indicate that the on-board sound does work with one of the standard BSD drivers, but again video requires a download from nVidia. I certainly wouldn't recommend this, or any nForce-based board, if you plan to run Linux or FreeBSD.

Strengths: Small,Onboard GeForse 2 graphics, 5.1 Channel onboard dolby sound Speed,Stabilty,Bios autoupdate,DDR RAM.

Weakness: No USB 2.0,No Dual RAM support,Very few expansion slot,No Ultra ATA 133.

I am assembling computer from last six years.I have never found the class of performance in a low budget motherboard such as this one. When I first went to buy this motherboard I had to depend upon my vendor but when I assembled the machine and ran I found I am running a Supersonic jet type computer in a very tight budget have already build 4 PC's based on this motherboard. I am totally satisfied with the performance, speed and of course the dependability on ASUS. Thanks to ASUS to promote such a classy MB as this one.

Strengths: Reliable, small size, fast, good features for the price

Weakness: Budget board in mind

This has been a great board. Just the right amount of features for the price, and has been solid and fast for the jobs. I dont play games, but everything else it is suited for. Have no complaints whatsoever. Plus you have the reputable backing of Asus behind you.

Strengths: Good cheap onboard everything board.

Weakness: On board video not good for heavy duty gaming (which are)but runs many 3D games OK at reasonable rez.

Great board for cheap systems just no overclocking options. Anyone looking for a do it all board should consider this for the price. Plus you avoid the hassles of a via chipset board!

Strengths: High quality, reliable, high spec, low cost

Weakness: Haven't seen any yet

I suddenly had to declare defeat, that I had reach the highest overclocking of my trusty antic FIC SD11 Motherboard with Athlon SLOT A CPU @ 1100 Mhz, The choice was simple the A7N266-vm AA (AA stands for AMD Assured) can't be much better. Installation was a breeze the onboard GForce MX2 200 run even 3D benchmark with around 15 -25 fps sound is OK I still have to play around with different speaker settings, but all up if there had been 6 stars i would have given this board 5.8 the only reason is that ASUS Web-site is not the best but the board is fantastic.

Strengths: Lots of integrated hardware, including Dolby Digital sound. Has an AGP slot so you don't have to use the onboard video unless you want to. Nice set of utilities including monitor for the board itself

Weakness: Micro-ATX, so keep in mind that it only has 3 PCI slots and 2 memory slots.

This is a great little package for a cheap computer setup. If you're not into 3D games, then the onboard Geforce2 MX will be just fine; if not, then disable it and use the AGP slot for whatever card you want. Also has onboard 5.1 sound, LAN, USB plus all the standard stuff. ASUS has done a great job with the budget board. Compared to other micro-ATX boards, this it a definite 5-star.

Strengths: Geforce2 graphics, Audio and DDR memory. Asus quality.

I have used 2 of these boards in computers I built who wanted a low budget, fast computer. As far as jumper settings, everything is preset to auto-detect, so unless you are overclocking, it should be a simple setup. I don't know of any other motherboard out there with better onboard graphics. I didn't have any problems with audio , but didn't try any DVDs. I will definitely use this board again.

Strengths: Drivers work well with Windows XP, very fast for an integrated board. Digital sound is excellent. Graphics better than average, expecially for integrated. STABLE!!

Weakness: Haven't found any yet

I don't know where the above "C+ certified" negative rater is coming from because I have been building systems for 7+ years and this is the best, bar none, integrated board I have ever used. Excellent sound, good graphics, Great price. And best of all, it's Asus-stable! Drivers install easily with Windows XP (Pro and Home Ed.)

Strengths: If you are looking for a "all in one" motherboard, this is the best bang for the buck I have seen.

Weakness: none for standard pc usage

I don't know why suck a highly trained person as the previous poster, would buy an integrated board if he is going to use sound and video cards instead of the onboard. If you are looking for a good all in one solution, and super-duper high speed gaming is not your main thing, this is a good board. It works perfectly right out of the box, once the nvidia drivers are installed, however he was correct in stating that the jumper settings are wrong. The manual is correct however, so just follow it and you will be fine. I do NOT do much gaming, so this has been a very fast and reliable system for me.

Strengths: Cheap with built-in sound and video.

Weakness: This is pure junk! I am unable to use my Audigy sound card without sound skipping in and out during DVD and game movie playback.

I am A+ and CCNA certified and have been working as a Systems Administrator for nearly 4 years. I regret buying this board and listening to Arstechnica's review. First of all, the manual that ships with the board is wrong regarding the jumper settings for the clock multiplier causing headaches to everyone who has used the board and posted on online forums. I am unable to use my Audigy sound card without sound skipping in and out during DVD and game movie playback. My GeForce3 card will not work with Detonator drivers without horrible fps. I can get my GeForce card to work with the lame nForce drivers, but my Audigy sound card won't work - so I'm forced to use the lame onboard sound. This is junk, and only marginally useful in a business computer.

Strengths: -Every needed feature is integrated on the board. -Very stable and fast integrated graphics compared to others. -Motherboard drivers are unified and easy to install.

Weakness: Third party graphics card would be required for gaming.

Great Value! Installed with out hitch! The sound is great quality as well. Very efficient! I would definately buy this board again, but perhaps the full-sized version. It is hard to find small PC cases with power supplies large enough to handle the CPUs this board can take.

Strengths: Small board with onboard sound and vga.

Weakness: Graphic not strong enough for DVD

Good board for every day use if your looking for budget board. just for everyday use. Would not recommend for the graphics on heavy users
