NF7-S Motherboard (Athlon/Duron, Socket A, nForce2, ATX, 3GB DDR, 333MHz FSB).
5 Star Review   By member seijii - Nov 26, 2005

Strengths: SoftMenu for CPU clock setting, and Flash Menu for BIOS update

My CPU is a Barton 3000+, operating at 2163 MHz clock and the FSB set at 400 MHz. It's fast. I'm a novice overclocker. This board takes mistery out of overclocking. With a proper cooling, this board can run much faster. The model numbers in this series are very confusing. Particularly between NF7-S (rev 2) and NF7-S2. The latter is much inferior to -S. Make sure of which one you're ordering.

Strengths: Overclockable, Sata raid, SoundStorm onboard 5.1 audio

Weakness: atx pwoer connector placement, northbridge fan make noise

Extremely fast and stable and th bios has every option an overclocker would want! There is enough room around the cpu socket for even the biggest cooler too! There are 3 simms for ddr3200 memory (if 2 sockets are used dual channel ram (must be same ram) can be achieved which increases bandwidth and preformance greatly) With 2 SATA ports on the mobo and the ability to use raid 1 or 0. this bord is great if your on a budget but still want extreme power and speed!

Strengths: Revision 2.0 board. Fast and stable. Has firewire and SATA and 6 USB 2.0 ports.

Weakness: No Game port

In my opinion this is still the best Athlon XP board out there. Its an awesome overclocker. Overclock 2500+ at 2.4G on air cooling, very stable. I have never used a board that overclocked as easily as this board does. very nice control over the FSB stepping. Great on board sound. Setup the SATA driver is very easy, just press F6 to set if up. All I can say is, WOW!

4 Star Review   By member Hubris471 - Apr 3, 2004

Strengths: This is the revision 2.0 board. Works fast and reliably. DDR memory activates properly with Corsair matched modules.

Weakness: Some connections are placed poorly causing routing/access problems. There is a capacitor placed near the end of the agp slot which makes it difficult to install some large video cards.

This board has functioned flawlessly since I set it up properly. I have tried to do some modest overclocking without success. That may be due to my processor's production period or because I haven't increased memory voltage. Others know more about that subject than I do. The booklet that comes with the board is decent, although it is not accurate in reflecting the newest bios version settings. The web site manual is also not up to date. This bios allows you to adjust many of the parameters for the CPU, FSB and memory settings. The labeling on the board for Firewire optional connections is a bit confusing as well. I'd like to match it to my case's connections, but its not obvious whether its compatible. The manual suggests that you need an optional media header, but a knowledgeable person may be able to connect other items to those pins. All in all, its a fine board with more potential than I've used. I did extensive research before purchasing it. I'd recommend it for those interested in a versatile board at a reasonable price.

Strengths: Overclocks well GREAT onboard sound Ultra ATA133 to Serial ATA150 Very stable and compatible

Weakness: None that I know of... I did a lot of research and liked what I saw... Some have complained of the board layout but it isnt an issue to me.

This mobo is the biggest bang for your buck you can get. It overclocks very well and is extremely stable. It also has some great features I highly recommend this board to anyone looking to get a great system (especially AMD).

5 Star Review   By member thejourney - Feb 16, 2004

Strengths: Good overclocking features, Soundstorm certified (i.e., built in Dolby Digital encoder, fast w/ SATA controller, well marked board. The NF7-S dissipates heat well. Firewire connectors.

Weakness: Limited on-board audio inputs--does not have AUX-IN or digital CD-IN. Minor issues: only has 6 USB ports and only provides optical digital input connector (i.e., no co-axial).

Great MB for everyone. Easy installation & very flexible. I have not overclocked before, and with a little bit of experimenting, I am able to run an XP+ 2600 (333M FSB) at 400M FSB. I like some of the overclocking features (e.g., ability to select several pre-configured setups based on processor type) that I found in another ABIT MB a little better as they were easier to use. The NF7-S locks the PCI bus, which is an advantage when working with overclocking. NF7-S dissipates heat better than another ABIT MB that I tried out & has mounting holes around processor for mounting a bigger heat sink. It can still generate some heat. The North bridge's heat sink fan buzzes when I set my case upright--I have the case on its side, so it does not buzz, but it is annoying. The Dolby digital encoding is very convenient as it allows me to run a single cable to my Audio/Video receiver. It would be nice if there were some more recent driver updates, but overall, everything works pretty well.

Strengths: Stable overclocker. Good BIOS features. Great layout and design.

Weakness: No game controller port.

Had to disable the on-board sound and install a PCI sound card so that I could hook up my Sidewinder Force Feedback joystick. Overall a good motherboard.

Strengths: Well designed board with nice features. This is my first computer build with easy to follow instructions.

Weakness: Have not had any problems.

As a first timer "rookie" I wanted a quality board that offered capibilities that I could use now and could advance with later. Out of the box the board is very fast and works great. I followed other users reviews and recommendations for my selection and I glad I did. They were right. It's an excellent board!

Strengths: Fast, good bios. Board clearly marked for connectors.

Weakness: components near cpu fan mounting holes are too close.

great Motherboard for anyone. The manual needs to have better proofing it. Some of the wording is in broken phrases. The surface mounted capacitors and resistors mounted near the cpu fan mounting holes are in danger of shorting the board or being damaged by the fan's stand offs. This was the only problem I found with the board.
