Good but ultimately disappointing
2 Star Review   By Robert DuBree on TheNerds.net - Mar 6, 2009

Strengths: Large Screen...a large workspace is nice to have. "no dead pixels" should not be listed as a pro.

Weakness: Color, Backlighting is weak and things get dark at the bottom of the screen.

Like the stars say... it works but i would not purchase it again. I would go with a much higher quality display. Colors seem over saturated no matter how many hours you spend calibrating it and the screen shifts from bright at the top to dark at the bottom no matter what. If you want a cheap but large workspace then go for it! do not let this review deter you. However, if you want accurate graphics for video editing or graphic design do not bother with this machine. you will ultimately be disappointed.

One Amazing Monitor!
5 Star Review   By member alteridem1 - Sep 21, 2007

Strengths: Extremely bright, incredibly crisp, gorgeous colors, self-adjusting display, a breeze to set up.

Weakness: If any ... the tiny buttons under the screen ... need a flashlight to read the labels.

I wanted a large-screen LCD to replace my 19-inch Proview, which is a great monitor, but now about 3-4 years old. Naturally, I went to PriceGrabber for reviews and price comparisons. I read the favorable comments, and some of the more stinting ones were not lost on me either. But I had some experience with ViewSonic, so I took the plunge and ordered this model. I'm glad I did. For the price, it can't be beat. Text is sharp and crisp, colors are gorgeous, DVD videos are cinema quality, and I have detected no flaws at all so far. I'm not a graphics professional, just a regular user, so I may be missing some of the telltale signs that only the experts can detect. But for me, this is an awesome, beautiful, huge display. I recommend it without reservation.

Viewsonic does it right again
5 Star Review   By member mmouse53a - Feb 5, 2007

Strengths: I love everything about this monitor. The picture size is great and the fact that it is an LCD with the flat screen is wonderful. No glare , only an excellent picture.

Weakness: No weaknesses that I am aware of. I have always bought Viewsonic and will continue to do so. This monitor is the best possible.

I love my monitor. Viewsonic is tops in the industry and I love the picture on the 22" screen. No glare at all. Just a beautiful picture on a great LCD screen.

Love It!
5 Star Review   By member toml712206 - Jan 30, 2007

Strengths: Beautiful picture, no dead pixels, rich color.

Weakness: This is really picky, but it's the only thing that slightly (and I mean slightly) bugs me - the front panel buttons are kind of hard to press as they don't stick out at all.

I just replaced my VX2025 (which I love and is moving to my office) and was slightly afraid to purchase this since some reviews had some minor complaints. The second I plugged it in and turned it on, I literally was like "Wow!" That's what I was hoping for. The size is definitely great, and the picture is beautiful. I thought my VX2025 was great, but this definitely has a better picture. I would not hesitate to recommend this to anyone who is looking for a monitor in this price range. The price is not a weakness - you get what you pay for.

No real complaints
5 Star Review   By member Anonymous - Jan 28, 2007

Strengths: Vibrant picture with no perceived ghosting; adequate built-in speakers; great price (Costco coupon)

Weakness: Power button difficult to push; no height adjustment and difficulty changing its angle; don't care for the glossy black on the LCD's border and stand

I upgraded from a 17" Dell LCD and am quite impressed with this one. I prefer small fonts and its widescreen size allows so much more to be visible. Where it sits on my desk is almost too close at times, and I find myself moving the monitor left or right a bit depending on where I need to be looking. This isn't a major hindrance, though, nor are the weaknesses I mentioned. Overall, I'm very impressed with the monitor.

Wow! Most Impressive!
5 Star Review   By member brockkane - Dec 27, 2006

Strengths: Big, Bright and Beautiful and no ghosting with my games so far. Play Halo, F.E.A.R. and Flat Out 2. All beautiful colors and graphics and speed! Wow, feels like I'm really there!

Weakness: On screen controls. Very hard to push, kinda hard to use.

I went from a 17" old Viewsonic CTR to this 22" Wide screen! You can imagine my excitement when I plugged this baby in! I really recommend this monitor for the gamer and people that love to watch DVDs on their computer. Amazing! Just make sure you have a pretty decent video card to crank up the res. I have my res set to the max 1680 X 1050!

Good monitor
4 Star Review   By member philchin - Dec 17, 2006

Strengths: Very big screen, wide screen excellent for games that support it, low response rate

Weakness: No HDMI inputs like some other monitors, eyes have to be aligned at top of screen to get right colors

This is an excellent monitor for the price. Before I upgraded, I was using a 17". The wide screen is excellent, allows for me to fit more on the screen at once rather than having to minimize or have windows hidden behind other windows. It's great for games but you will need a good video card to run them at the native resolution. Widescreen movies are great too, because they take advantage of the whole screen. The only draw back is, although it doesn't have any of the HD inputs and the view angle in the vertical direction seems low. You have to align your eyes to the top of the screen. Other than that, this monitor is great.

a great monitor
4 Star Review   By member sagupta - Dec 3, 2006

Strengths: 22 inch screen good picture zero dead pixel

Weakness: front buttons are hard to press

An excellent monitor for below $400. Fast response. Great picture quality. Lively colors front buttons are hard to press but once you set up the monitor , you never need to press them again anyway.

Excellent monitor for $300
4 Star Review   By member squeeken - Nov 26, 2006

Strengths: Huge screen, bright, sturdy, good text qauality. Perfect monitor for internet/email/word proccessing/gaming!

Weakness: Control buttons are difficult to press (and your gonna need em) - colors looked washed out on default settings. Not a good choice if perfect color accuracy is critical.

If you want a large impressive looking LCD monitor for under $400, look no further, unless you are a photo editing junky or need lots of connectivity options. This monitor was just to good a deal for me to pass up ($299 at Costco with $50 coupon). First of all, lets be clear about one thing. This is not a high end monitor. This is a value monitor. You're not going to get perfection for $299. That being said, this monitor is worth alot more than $299, in my opinion. What you get: 1. A big wide screen. You get alot of realestate to work with. This replaced my 19" Dell 4:3 CRT, so it really looks huge to me. Widescreen is awesome. I'll never go back. 2. It's plenty bright. I turned the bightness down a bit for my liking. 3. Text quality looks great. 4. Gaming performance is great. I am a FPS gaming junky, so I needed a monitor with a fast response time. This monitor shows no blurring or ghosting of any kind during my gaming. I have no complaints in this area. 5. Some other reviews have complained about backlight bleed. I specifically looked for this flaw in my monitor the day i bought it, and sure enough it was there, right along the top and bottom edge of the monitor. That was the last time I ever noticed it. In other words, you will never notice it unless you are looking for it, or maybe if you play movies with really dark scenes. How often do you have a super dark image on your entire screen? Even during night operations in my games, I have NEVER noticed it. 6. That said, I don't normally watch DVDs on my PC, but I popped one in for this review, and it performed great. I didn't see any ghosting or anything like that. The image flowed very smoothly. What you sacrafice: 1. My biggest complaint - The default settings, out of the box, make the image look somewhat washed out and the colors are just not quite right. You will almost certainly want to change the monitor settings in the control menu to attain a better quality image. I was able to get rid of the washed out look, but have yet to get the color accuracy exactly right. Don't get me wrong, my photos look really great on screen, but if I'm editing pictures for the purpose of printing, color accuracy is extremely important, and while it looks good, it's just not perfectly accurate. 2. That brings me to my next complaint... the control menu buttons are very small and somewhat cumbersome to press. You can't just press them with your finger, you sort-of have to use your fingernails. It's a pain, and because of complaint #1, you're gonna use those buttons alot when you first get the monitor home. Fortunately, once you get the monitor set up the way you like, you will probably never press them again. 3. Almost no position adjustments for this monitor. You can tilt it forward and backward...that's it. No hight adjustment, no swival, & certainly no rotating to portrait mode... not for $299. So make sure it fits where you plan to put it. 4. Very little conectivity. You get one DVI and one VGA port and that's it. No component, no S-video, and no USB ports. Conclusion: If color accuracy is critical, this monitor is not for you; however, it's a perfect monitor for gaming, surfing the net, email, word processing, spreadsheets, and basic photo work. And best of all, you get a 22" widescreen Viewsonic monitor for about $300. It's a smoking deal.

4 Star Review   By member pattonkn - Nov 3, 2006

Strengths: -Good looks -Great picture quality -Fast response time -Build-in speaker

Weakness: -No height adjustment -Different to push the control buttons -Contrast ratio is not as high as others

This is great monitor, especially for the price ($299 from COSTCO). The monitor is actually beyond my expectation! It is bright and sharp, comparing to Dell 2005 I have got. The picture quality is great as well. Fast response time, no ghosting when playing games, again comparing to 2005. The bezal at the bottom is a little thick comparing to others, but it make it look more like a TV feel rather than a monitor.

GREAT panel, BUY THIS MONITOR
5 Star Review

Strengths: wide angle res, PRICE!, size & weight, style, color quality

Weakness: Stand isn't adjustable, no S-video or Composite input.

I am completely content and completely thrilled with this purchase. I upgraded from a 17" LCD (which was fine for my purposes, but I'm a greedy gamer ;-) After installing this baby and viewing my desktop at the full resolution, it took my breat away. BEAUTIFUL picture, very crisp, sharp look, haven't tried the integrated speakers, but who would really... Too bad the stand isn't adjustable, and it would be nice for a monitor of this size to have S-video or Component/Composite for a DVD player, cos it would do very well doubling as an HD TV for the bedroom. But for the price ($299 at Costco) who can complain!? What a steal! I'm very happy with this product, comes with a 3 year manufacture's warranty, but as painless as it is to return things at Costco, I'll probaby never use it. BUY THIS MONITOR!!!!!!!!

Good Screen but has its flaws
3 Star Review   By member grimfand - Oct 28, 2006

Strengths: huge screen, extremely bright, nice colors, sharp

Weakness: Flickering with certain patterns, no fixed resolution mode available, videos slightly grainy, too bright at times, up/down viewing angle limited, no landscape mode, slight shadow on some text(see note below)

My first impression of this screen was "Wow! its huge!" and I was instantly impressed with the colors, brightness and resolution. As I used it more I found some weaknesses that are actually making me question the purchase. This is my first LCD monitor so I apologize if many of the problems I mention are common with most lcds, I only have my laptop lcds to use as a comparison. Also I only used the analog VGA input as I do not have DVI which might cause alot of the problems I mention. If you view web pages or any image that uses a grid pattern(screen door effect) such as on some windows dialog boxes the pattern will flicker/flash when stationary. when scrolled it will flash/flicker even worse. As I'm entering in this review, if I scroll the text that I am typing(black on white), the text flickers quite a bit until the scrolling stops. Also I notice that certain colors of text/backgrounds cause a slight shadow effect, biggest place is black text on gray backgrounds that you see in the "File Edit View" menus of all your programs. Another issue I have is the inability of the monitor to do fixed resolution without stretching. It always stretches the image regardless of the size. For somethings(such as games) I would like to have it not stretch and leave black borders on the left/right of the screen. If this is important to you, this screen is not for you. Another thing is the up/down viewing angle isn't perfect. its not horrible but just moving up down a bit in my chair I can see the brightness drop off, especially if you are sitting close as the screen is so big you can move your head up and down enough to cause parts of the screen to be darker than others. The top of my screen is darker than the bottom. I can tilt the screen to make the top brighter but then the bottom is darker. Side viewing angle is fine. it does lose quite a bit of brightness but its still visible if you are standing to the side and looking. much better than most laptops I've seen. The screen is so bright, at first I liked this but all white background are blinding, even turned all the way down to zero the screen is still visible. if you put up a completely black image, it looks gray and there is some visible light bleeding on the edges. Final thing is videos(avi's, wmvs for example) do not look as nice. I see alot of blocking and artifacts when playing video files. I read that this LCD is a TN panel and that this is a common problem with LCDs compared to a CRT. Part of the problem is due to the extreme brightness as it brings out more flaws in the video. as a comparison I tried playing a raw capture 720p video on it and that looked beautiful even stretched to full screen it still looked good. so just be aware that if you are coming from a smaller screen or a CRT, your once good looking videos might look terrible on this new screen. The monitor is very basic in terms of features but at this price you can't expect to get all of the extras offered on the more expensive dell and gateway 20inch lcds. I wish it had the rotate to landscape mode that the dells offer, it is a nice feature for coding or reading long webpage. It doesn't have any extra inputs(such as composite, svideo, or component) other than dvi/vga, so if youd like to hook up other devices to it you'll need a different screen. Overall I do like the screen most of the time but if I could do it overagain I would not buy it. I'd either wait for better quality 22inch lcd panels or I'd get one of the higher quality 20inch screens which viewsonic does sell as well.

Widescreen - The Next Generation
5 Star Review   By member Conspirate - Oct 25, 2006

Strengths: Brilliant picture, great display settings, excellent monitor response rate (5ms) with no visible ghosting, wonderful contrast, 16:10 widescreen

Weakness: Built-in speakers are well, built-in, cannot adjust height of the monitor.

This monitor is without a doubt the best LCD under 1000 USD I have ever come across. I upgraded from a 19" 4:3 LCD, and wow. I used to think that monitor was nice, this is unbelievable. Widescreen is excellent for everything, even Windows finally feels natural. Gaming on this beauty is well, the beast; although I cannot prove that my frag rate has gone up, or claim that it has either, without question gaming has become less of a task and more pure fun. Even though it has a higher resolution than my older monitor, the framerate with vsync enabled is still about the same. It feels as though I am using a computer for the first time, like when I was three using my dad's DOS. Who would have thought I would look forward to something as rudimentary as checking my email! If you are hesitating purchasing this monitor, maybe you should not be looking in the market; you are looking at the best of the best, and no matter the price, the purchase is justified. Just so happens that this monitor can be gotten for well under half what the others run for.

Big Bang for the Buck!
5 Star Review   By member WB4GQA - Oct 24, 2006

Strengths: Size, Clarity, Value, Features

Weakness: Small menu buttons

After replacing my 17" CRT with this monitor, I was initally blown away at the size of this monitor. It was like going from a 25" T.V. to a 45" plasma. The colors are excellent, and it has a menu to set the coloring for different things, e.g. scenery, portrait, vivid, cinema, etc. as well as a manual setting to do the same. Skin tones can also be set, as well as contrast, brightness, and several other nice functions. I have noticed no out of place pixels, and the color, clarity and resolution is very, very good over the entrie screen. The menu buttons take a little getting use to, but prove to be no problem. You can also tilt the monitor either up or back from the stand that it is mounted on.. There is not much in documentation, but the inital setup is quite easy, with patch cables being supplied for a couple of different setups. Really, all other functions of the monitor are menu driven, and should you get confused, it has a "factory reset" button on it where it will revert back to the initial "out of the box" settings. I do not use the speakers in the ViewSonic as I have a set of Altec Lansing speakers with subwoofer, but the audio cord is also supplied should you elect to use the monitor's speakers. I purchased this product from Costco for $299, and thought it was quite an excellent buy. I would recommend this monitor to anyone looking to upgrade from a smaller monitor.

Best bang for the buck!
5 Star Review   By member garrettww - Oct 23, 2006

Strengths: Crisp picture and awesome 5ms response time. Super Light weight. Built-in speakers.

Weakness: Non-adjustable stand

I have been using a Dell 21" CRT for year. This monitor offers no comparison. It is definitely in a league of its own. The wide aspect ration is really nice if you use your computer for movies, but it also works well for spreadsheets. I find that it is easy on the eyes. I found that my old monitor would give me headaches if I looked at it too long. Now I have more viewing area while using less desk space.

I want to like this monitor, but...
1 Star Review

I have now purchased two of these from Costco & both had several burnt pixels right out of the box (the first one had 2, so returned it in exchange for another which has 5). I guess the quality control isn't quite there for a "budget" product line.

Beautiful!
4 Star Review   By member dng1 - Oct 21, 2006

Strengths: Great picture, 3 year warranty, nice screen

Weakness: Integrated speakers don't make it look as pleasant, Price

I've been using this monitor for over a week and I love it! It's a bit pricey but regardless it's a very beautiful monitor! The 5ms response time on this LCD is great! The only gripe I have is that I don't use the integrated speakers and the extra space that it takes up is annoying.
