2 broken monitors in a row
1 Star Review

Strengths: When working it is a beautiful monitor.

Weakness: Poor quality, worse customer service

This monitor was received as part of a Dell system in November 2007. Upon opening the box a small dent was noticed in the upper right corner of the enclosure. Ignoring the gut feeling to return it for a new and undamaged item it was used. It performed flawlessly for 5 months at which time it completely failed to power up. Samsung customer service was contacted and a replacement was delivered in 1 week. However, the refurbished replacement monitor failed to function, as well. It would not receive a signal from the computer and the computer would not detect the monitor. Samsung customer service was again contacted and they again offered a refurbished monitor in exchange. It was requested that a new monitor be delivered as no confidence was placed in receiving a previously broken monitor in exchange for 2 already broken items. Despite discussing the matter with customer service and a representative of the executive branch of the company they refused to consider sending a new model all the while the warranty period is being eaten up. Buyer Beware!

Yet Another great product from Samsung - SyncMaster 204BW Black 20
4 Star Review   By member cmpandian - Jan 1, 2008

Strengths: Dual Input (Digital & Analog), Appearence, Slim and decent weight range. Worked perfectly with Dell Systems (two sys) using Dual Input. Flawless reproduction of pictures with no dead pixels.

Weakness: I would have preferred a little more high.

Dual Input worked flawlessly. No driver issues whatsoever. Crisp display. Another biggest Advantage that I saw was it adjustment, rotary, vertical and horizontal. Overall a great Monitor for the price and definitely one of the top quality Monitor. Samsung is quietly becoming a leader in LCD Monitors.

Wide but not very vibrant
3 Star Review   By member hardingdgh - Jan 1, 2008

Strengths: Good price, All pixels good. No wire line like in Trinitron screens.

Weakness: Not quite used to missing the brights that a CRT give you.

Perhaps I have the settings wrong but the colors appear dull. I have a dual monitor setup and the brightness difference between my Dell Ultrascan 990 and this monitor are really apparent. That isn't to say that I don't like the monitor. It gives me a lot of screen. Playing UT3 and Call Of Duty are really fun on it. Still I don't think I have the correct screen resolution. Best widest widescreen resolution I can get is 1680x1050 on my MSI 8600GT. When I look down the sniper scope in UT3 or COD the scope is oval and not round. The "circle" of the scope has been stretched horizontally. So that tells me I'm not really seeing the display in full widescreen. It is as though the display is simply stretched horizontally to be widescreen. This may be just a driver issue or a game issue. It is a good monitor. It gets warmer along the top back edge more than I thought it would. The screen slides up and down on a spring loaded groove. You must release a pin in the back to unlock it. But after that there is no way to "lock" it into position except in the full down (packed) position. In the full up position it doesn't move as long as you don't put any weight on it. I would prefer a locking mechanism but I still like the monitor. I think I would rate it higher if the colors were brighter.

Samsung 20" LCD
5 Star Review   By member DeusExa - Aug 7, 2007

Strengths: Excellent Picture Quality for gaming/video editing/movies. Fast 6ms response time, 700:1 contrast ratio.

Weakness: Color had to be tweaked out of the box.

This 204BW Samsung 20" widescreen monitor is one of the best 20" LCDs on the market so far. Apart from the technical quality of the build, its aesthetics are beautiful to look at. However, color of the box was a little inaccurate, but a few minutes of tweaking made it one of the best images I've even seen. (It actually has beautiful color, but it needed some tweaking, so no problem with that.) Also, Samsung monitors are known to have a tidbit of backlight bleeding, but it is recognized as a feature....I didn't see any on mine though.

syncmaster 204bw
4 Star Review   By member ipd40 - May 30, 2007

Strengths: stylish, nice presets, decent ergonimics

Weakness: backlight leakage, bad pixel

Out of the box the monitor feels well made. Includes both vga and dvi cables (cheaper manufacturers tend to skip the later). The height is adjustable which is quite nice. Easy to tilt and rotate. Pretty decent menu navigation, has a dedicated button for several preset settings, one of which is custom - i quite like this. Unfortunately there is some backlight leakage and the lightning isn't completely uniform, however it's to be expected from a monitor in this price range. Mine has one annoying green pixel. Gentle massage fixed it for a while but every now and then comes back green. Overall quite impressive monitor - I can compare it to several others in the same price range and this is really the best of all.

Amazing quality, low price
5 Star Review   By member pdesantis3 - Feb 25, 2007

Strengths: Great quality. Perfect combo of brightness, contrast ratio, and response time makes it great for gaming. Also good for movies and office work.

Weakness: 1 stuck pixel, a green one near the bottom left corner of the screen. Not a huge deal, and stuck pixels can become active again. All monitors have stuck pixels, its the luck of the draw what you get.

Would definitely buy again. Height adjustment, tilt + swivel make it easy to fit in any space. Now I can easily edit documents in one window on one side of the screen and have my research or notes in another window on the other side of the screen. Comes with software to help fine tune the monitor's settings to get the best image quality. Good warranty. Stuck pixels can go away, there are programs that rapidly alternate colors in one area of the screen, so hopefully that will work for me.

Excellent Monitor for the price!!!
4 Star Review   By member mirai_trunks2k3 - Feb 17, 2007

Strengths: Wide Screen, DVI connection, quality product

Received the item on time. Looks great so far.... Hooked up right away without any glitch. Everything looks great except one thing... there's one dead pixel right around the down left hand corner. If the background is black the dead pixel is very easy to notice. Other than that, I like this monitor very much.

Sharp, bright, and clear
5 Star Review   By member dozen - Feb 10, 2007

Strengths: DVI, 1680x1050, cheap

Weakness: No USB connectors

This monitor is probably the best you can find within the price range. The monitor looks so sharp and clear no matter for games or movies. The base can let you easily adjust the height and angle of the monitor as well as rotate it.
