4 Star Review   By member springfield30_06 - Feb 3, 2005

Strengths: lots of real estate. huge screen.

Weakness: weight, 74 lbs in the box, and real estate it takes up on the desk.

the monitor is very nice. it came and when i hooked it up i did notice a few things. 1st: that in the top left corner, the reds seem to be more pink then red, as was not the case for the rest of the desk top. 2nd the 2 horizontal lines that everyone seems to talk about with a grill type display. 1st: i'll talk about the color in the top left corner, after tweaking the color and stuff in the on screen menu i could not get it to go away. i was good and pissed and about to call nec and tell em they could have the piece of crap they sold me back. luckly before i made a fool of myself i went to the nec site and downloaded the NaViset software. It took me all of 1 whole minute there after to fix the color in the top left of the screen using this software. (only dis-advantage is that the software does not come with the monitor you have to download it) 2nd the horizontal lines across the screen. i really only see them when i have a solid white background. (like a blank internet explorer window) If I'm looking at the desktop or something with any kind of wallpaper or, you can't see them. In fact unless your looking for them, you really dont even see them on a white background. If you do look for them, they are not to hard to find though. All in all i love it. Huge screen, bright crisp detail and color. if you order expect to do some tweaking however. The crisp sharp details and color don't come with out a good 15 minutes spent making fine tune adjustments. The NaViSet is an ABSOLUTE MUST HAVE! So download it! I am giving it 4 out of 5 stars only because of the horizontal lines. I know they are there on all arpicture grill monitors but if some one could design them out, that would give it a 5 in my book.

Strengths: NEC Name

Weakness: Quality-Control Issues: THREE DEFECTIVE MONITORS FROM THREE DIFFERENT MANUFACTURE DATES!!!

BUYER BEWARE! NIGHTMARE AHEAD! I have NEVER BEFORE had to make SO MANY ADJUSTMENTS to BRAND-NEW monitors! (1) The out-of-the-box geometry was LOUSY on ALL of the monitors. How much time do you want to waste in Tweak City?! (2) Worse, ALL of the monitors had UNRESOLVABLE, simultaneous top-left and -right corner flare. I found it annoying, but those who wear bell-bottoms may not mind it. FE2111SB Monitor #1: POA (Possessed On Arrival). The brightness would drop, every time a window was maximized! Restoring the window to its previous size would restore the proper brightness. How's that, for BIZARRE?! (Even though this monitor offers "SuperBright" modes, this oddball behavior is NOT part of that feature.) Also, degaussing would kick in at random! Pedestal scratches suggested that the bases were slapped on with little care. FE2111SB Monitor #2: Bulging was evident at the intersection of the cabinet body and the top, left, and right sides of the plastic frame that surrounds the glass! (It was an OBVIOUS QUALITY-CONTROL ISSUE, because the first monitor did not suffer this.) There were more pedestal scratches. Worst of all, several PERMANENT VERTICAL LINES appeared within the brief period of use while waiting for replacement. [NOTE: This is the SAME PERMANENT-VERTICAL-LINE PROBLEM that another reviewer ("Eidan," from CA) saw in the similar NEC FP2141SB monitor.] How's that, for SCARY?! FE2111SB Monitor #3: This gem had the SAME BULGING ISSUE (slightly more pronounced) and a dot-sized DEFECT IN THE UNDERSIDE OF THE GLASS. WHAT CRAPPY MONITORS! I HAVE RETURNED ALL OF THEM! After seeing such shoddy workmanship, my gut feeling is that CRT monitors are suffering the same sort of quality decline as VCRs. "MAXIMUM PC" reviewers (in two of their issues, so far, this year) were orgasmic about the FE2111SB. If you love crack, you, too, may be satisfied with this monitor.

5 Star Review   By member BroknSpyrl - Jun 24, 2004

Strengths: Super-Bright. Solid. Quiet. Nice just to look at. Perfectly flat. Great resolutions. Nice price.

Weakness: Not that it's a weakness, but it does eat up some real estate on your desk. Get a big desk.

I am not a rich man. I bought this monitor for less than $600, and now that I have used it, I feel like I stole the thing. There were a few tweaks that needed to be made, considering I can't just move my desk so that the monitor is pointing east, and then there is the shipping thing. Naviset took care of this within a few minutes of tweaking. The screen looked concave when I first turned it on, but once my eyes adjusted to it, it is totally flat. I loaded up some new games and they looked great on it. Then I loaded up DOOM II with JDoom. Holy crap I have never seen a Demon that big. Insane.
