4 Star Review  productwiki.com - Jul 27, 2011

Replacing the Dell 2405FPW, the 2407WFP wide aspect LCD display combines industrial design with functionality. A 24" 16:9 screen is over 1.5X wider than a 17" 4:3 so you can fit quite a bit more on your screen. Lots of inputs to choose from including DVI, VGA, Component, S-Video, and RCA so you can use this display for anything you like. Added from accessories.us.dell.com ... PROS: (1) color accuracy is very good, ideal for photo editing (2) construction is solid and durable, dont have to treat it delicately (3) plenty of inputs to choose from, more than most monitors make available (4) wide viewing angle, doesnt wash out when viewed from the side (5) fully compatible with PC, Mac and even other AV equipment ... CONS: (1) default settings are often a little off, need to be adjusted at least for brightness and contrast (2) generates a fair amount of heat while in operation

Strengths: Large bright display

Weakness: Super annoying input switching

The display and color is great, but for my purposes, this monitor slow me down. I use this monitor at work and have mutlitple consoles and PC's connected that I need fast switching for. The problem I have is that the menu's will prevent you from quickly swithcing inputs as there is various areas where you must wait before you can proceed and perform other tasks such as setting the PIP input after turning PIP on. As well, The user must press any button twice before the desired effect occurs.(i.e. I want to turn on PIP but just to do that I have too press PIP twice. It's super annoying when I'm trying to work quickly that PIP doesn't turn on automatically.) Another thing about the interface I don't like is that the PIP input will frequently reset itself to S-video, and I don't even have anything hooked to S-video. More annoying things regarding PIP is that the PIP sizes are too small. If you only need this for one computer or don't switch input frequently, this monitor rocks. But if you're like me and you switch inputs with high frequency, this monitor will slow you down notably.

Great Monitor!
5 Star Review   By member its_wayne - May 18, 2007

Strengths: Excelent picture quality. Good functionality. Reasonable price.

Weakness: None so far.

I did a lot of research on 24" monitors over the past few months. I finally decided that I liked the features and functionality of this Dell 24" monitor. Being able to use it with a tuner as a TV was a real plus. The large size was another. The picture is sharp and brillant. I have an older computer system so I did have to upgrade my video board. So far, I am very pleased with this monitor.

Great Monitor!
5 Star Review   By member jolar99 - Jan 24, 2007

Strengths: Size, ports, flexibility, image

Weakness: Price

This is a great monitor. It is very large and has great color plus a variety of useful ports/hookups. It is perhaps a little pricey for the average person, but since I'm rather rich, I could care less.

Decent, all around
3 Star Review   By member badhonkey - Dec 26, 2006

Strengths: Large screen size No input lag (when compared visually to a 22" CRT at the same resolution) Saturated colors

Weakness: No contrast control (brightness only) Some ghosting Color banding in gradient areas Some moire issues

I am a hardcore gamer and graphic designer. I calibrate monitors for a living. The Dell 2407 is a great all around monitor, suffers from no visually noticeable input lag, and has a super bright, large screen. If you are not going to judge its color fidelity or use it for intense photo editing or other color work, this monitor will do you fine. It responds well to fast paced games, and it interpolates other resolutions well. However, it does suffer from some fidelity issues. The shadow detail is dark in most areas, and colors are saturated and tend to drift towards red. There is noticeable white ghosting (in, for example, Internet Explorer or other fast text scrolling) yet no black smearing (as in fast paced games). The backlight is even, but i'm skeptical that it's 1000:1. When comparing the 2407 to my 800:1 contrast Viewsonic LCD, the 2407 is definitely not better, and actually, the blacks on the 2407 are muddy whereas on the Viewsonic they are rather deep (although the Viewsonic suffers from a slightly uneven backlight issue, the Dell 2407 backlight was more comparable to the lighter areas of the uneven Viewsonic backlight rather than the darker ones. I would have guessed the opposite). All in all the Dell 2407 is a good buy for the 24" of real estate you gain, but if you require more accurate color, shadow detail for intense PhotoShop work, and no color banding, look elsewhere. Please note this review was of a revision A03 Dell 2407WFPb manufactured in December 2006 with an HN208 panel.

Black Beauty
5 Star Review   By member omgy - Dec 9, 2006

Strengths: 1920x1200, Multiple Inputs, USB + SD/MMC Reader

Weakness: USB devices powered off with monitor.

I purchased the Dell 2407FPW for more screen real estate and am currently using it along with a Dell 1905FP. The screen shines brightly. And while it may substitute for a lamp, the brightness doesn't bother my eyes and the colors appear accurate. While gaming, there is almost no hint of ghosting. In comparison to the Dell 1905FP, the improvement is dramatic. The physical build is very appealing, more so than the previous models. The bezel is flat and thin, not rounded, and the front panel buttons blend in to the lower-right corner. Like the 2405, this new model includes usb and sd/mmc connectivity. Usb devices connected to the monitor are still powered off with the monitor. I'd like to see this change but it isn't a big problem. On top of that, the price is one of the lowest for a 24" lcd monitor. Great buy!

Dell 2407FWP review
4 Star Review   By member coreduo - Nov 30, 2006

Strengths: Excellent image quality Great warranty

Weakness: Lack of some inputs Backlight adjustment

I have been using this monitor for approximately three months and have been very pleased with it. I got it to replace an NEC 2100SB 21" CRT monitor which was being used for games, normal computer usage such as word processing, and to watch video. The LCD monitor includes S-video, composite, DVI, VGA, and component inputs. It is missing, however, an HDMI input; for a monitor of this level this input should be present. The monitor has all the basic controls to adjust color, contrast, and brightness, as well as how to display the aspect ratio of non-widescreen material so that it does not get distorted (unless you want it to). The only control missing is an adjustment to the backlight, which I again think should definitely have been included in such a monitor. Adjustments can usually be made through video card software though. Overall I would definitely purchase this unit again. Despite the two missing items explained above, the monitor is still worth it in my opinion. The quality seems to be high, and there is no ghosting whatsoever during games or DVDs. Recommended.

4 Star Review   By member kaval - Nov 24, 2006

Strengths: large lcd monitor with sharp text ability to rotate monitor 90 degrees to make connections

Weakness: No height adjustment. No HDMI port. No built-in speakers (although for a monitor this is to be expected.)

This is a superb monitor for cost when compared with other monitors of comparable size. The images and text are excellent. The native resolution of 1920 X 1200 required me to upgrade my AGP card to display at this level, but it was well worth it. No HDMI port is yet available, although I have yet to use one of these cables. There is a height adjustment on the monitor, although it took me a little while to figure out. There is really not much choice if you are searching for a 24" LCD at the best price.

Good monitor, lousy stand
2 Star Review   By member groston - Oct 26, 2006

Strengths: On-screen controls, not as bright as the 2405, good image quality through DVI

Weakness: The stand is garbage

My 21" CRT died about six months ago so I replaced it with a Dell 2405. Good monitor, though a bit too bright. My wife's 21" CRT was showing signs of age, so we purchased a 2407 (which I took - giving her the 2405). The picture quality on both is about equal. The controls and memory card slots are better on the 2407. HOWEVER, and this is a huge however, the new stand is total garbage. For one, it is at least 2 1/2" shorter than the last, so now the monitor is not at a proper height. Also, the cable managament is not as good. Why did Dell change? Obviously to cut cost, but in doing so, they sacrificed important functionality.

Strengths: High Resolution 1920x1200, 6ms response time, card reader and usb ports.

Weakness: None so Far.

This is an excellent monitor for the price. No other monitor in this price range matches the features of Dell. Excellent Price/Performance ratio. I like the Swivel/Rotation screen, built in Card Reader and the USB Ports. Too bright out of the box.Had to tune the graphics card settings to get the right contrast ratio.

Huge, Beautifal Screen with Some Serious Flaws
4 Star Review   By member raymondmar - Sep 14, 2006

Strengths: 24" 1080p Widescreen, enough said Unbeatable price 3 Year Warranty

Weakness: DVI only works properly with the computer Component quality stinks Some bits of banding and ghosting Dell refuses to fix all the issues, and they are on their 4th revision (A03)!!

Don't get me wrong, I love my monitor and I couldn't live without it. There is no way you can get a high resolution 24" widescreen for $750 anywhere. If you are serious about picture and color quality (ie heavy photo editing) or use more than one input (plan to use Component or DVI for watching HDTV or DVDs through your set top box or DVD player or play Xbox 360) be warned that the picture quality absolutely stinks outside of using the DVI for your computer. I've tried to do HDTV over the DVI (doesn't work) as well as the Component (terrible picture quality and bad color balance). If you are like me and just work on spreadsheets and surf the web, watch an occasional movie, browse through pictures, then by all means buy this ASAP. If you plan on doing more, then you really need to stop and think about this purchase. Dell has had many issues with this monitor, they have had 4 revisions (from A00 and is now on A03 and some issues are still unresolved)

Beautifal, Large Monitor!
3 Star Review   By member legoralto - Sep 13, 2006

Strengths: High Resolution, Big Screen, Lots of Inputs, Great Price

Weakness: Terrible Component Quality

Great monitor if you will just be using it for desktop work as it's got the built in USB and memory card readers and the picture quality from the DVI is impeccable. HDTV on the Component wasn't good, the blacks were too dark and no amount of tweaking of the settings could fix it. I am using it mainly with the DVI connection for my computer, so for the price and the resolution, it's hard to beat.

5 Star Review   By member tiebrown - Sep 4, 2006

Strengths: Dell quality, 24 inch wide viewing area, beatiful image quality, high contrast ratio, 5 inputs, can double as an HD TV, you can't beat the price.

Weakness: None, completely satisfied.

I use Dell's previous 24-inch UltraSharp (2407FPW) monitor at work and had to have the same for home. This new style is sleeker, but that is the only difference. I am considering buying another to use as a HD TV.

Weakness: Dell changed their stand design, I liked the old stand design better. LCD screendoor effect.

I purchased this 24" wide panel monitor to replace my dell 2005FPW that I had purchased last December. I decided I wanted this 24" bad boy. I am not in the least unhappy about that decision. This thing is a monster. I use it for my PC monitor, Xbox monitor, and with the component inputs will use it for my Xbox360 monitor. I have been extremely happy with Dell's quality. This thing is bright, clear, and doesn't have a single dead pixel. Exactly like my 20" wide panel. Do make sure that you can place it far enough away from you if you are going to use it as a TV type monitor. LCD's at times suffer from a screendoor effect, but that is due to the viewer being too close to the monitor. If you are looking for a Apple panel, this will function exactly like Apple's 23" wide panel, but will give you much more functionality. The fact that I can use this as a TV panel at a later date by adding a tuner and speakers is a bonus. If you are looking at any of Dell's wide LCDs, I don't think you can go wrong. Lastly, I purchased this through Costco.com. The price was awesome and included shipping and the 3 year advanced exchange warranty. Include that on top of Costco's own amazing return policy (100% satisfaction guaranteed forever) and you have a winner!

Nice Monitor
5 Star Review   By member robertchiang - Aug 20, 2006

Strengths: Neat design; beautiful LCD; with all kinds of signal interface, card reader, USB2.0 Hub. Competitive C/P value.

Recently I was surprised at Dell's design. It is total different from the old dell. The quality is excellent for me. Although I have read some negative comments about it's LCD, I feel satisfied with it. It is a good deal.
