Toshiba Satellite A665-S6065
3.5 Star Review  productwiki.com - Sep 3, 2011

The Toshiba Satellite A665-S6065 is a high-end notebook laptop similar to the Toshiba Satellite A665-S6058. The sole yet significant improvement that the A665-S6065 boasts over the A665-S6058 is its Intel Core i7-720QM processor (as opposed to the A665-S6058s Intel Core i5-450M processor). Otherwise, besides lacking the A665-S6058s battery saving Optimus GPU technology, the A665-S6058 and A665-S6065 are the same, sporting: a 16" LCD display (1366x768), an NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M graphics processor, 4GB of DDR3 RAM, a 500GB hard drive, a memory card reader, a DVD RW drive and an HDMI output. The A665-S6065s Intel Core i7-720QM processor sports 4 cores, allowing for extremely intensive computer use but at the cost of battery life: the A665-S6065s 6-cell battery only lasts approximately 3 hours per charge. Its NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M graphics processor allows the A665-S6065 to handle moderate gaming with relative ease, when paired with its other specs, as well as high definition media playback. Additionally, the A665-S6065s memory card reader allows for direct interfacing with most popular storage ... PROS: (1) Competitive price for a quad core notebook with a strong mid range GPU, good for some moderate gaming (2) The Core i7 quad core CPU paired with a Nvidia GPU that can run CUDA, this makes a formidable machine for productivity with plenty fo processing power (3) Offers USB ports that can be used for charging devices when the notebook is in sleep mode, as well as a fast eSATA/USB combo port (4) The full size keyboard has an excellent typing feel, a good improvement from previous Satellite notebooks (5) The built in speakers are well above average in terms of sound quality, compared to similar models from Dell and Lenovo ... CONS: (1) The 1366x8768 resolution on a 16" display is beyond disappointing, especially such a powerful noteboopk (2) The glossy display is overly reflective, very uncomfortable to use in bright conditions

5 Star Review   ToshibaDirect.com

Satellite 665 has nice big screen that I like, but is also slender and lightweight for it's size. The speaker quality is great and there are lots of great features. I was very satisfied with customer support, which is very important to me, since this is my first computer.

Great laptop with two problems
4 Star Review   ToshibaDirect.com

I was getting down to the wire for needing a laptop for college that would run AutoCAD and other design software which are very demanding programs. The i7 processor in this computer handles the programs very well. It is fast overall and was a great welcoming back to Windows computers from my iMac desktop. Also, the graphics card with 1GB of its own RAM. I have two complaints about this computer. Obviously, the battery life is attrocious. When using just the internet (on wireless connections), I am lucky if I get 1.5 hours out of the battery. If I am just playing a game like solitaire, it will last upwards of 2 hours most of the time. The biggest complaint I have about this laptop is its wireless connectivity. When trying to use wireless internet, the computer will disconnect at least once every 2 minutes, making it very frustrating to try and use the internet. I am lead to believe this also shortens the battery life. Anyway, overall, great computer, could be amazing if those two things were addressed.

Toshiba Quality Shinning Through
4 Star Review   ToshibaDirect.com

I have had the A665-S6065 for six weeks. This is a great laptop, very fast ! It has performed very well with one catch, the battery life with the battery supplied with the computer is terrible and the computer gets extremely hot fast!!! I only get about 70-90 minutes on a full charge before I need to plug it in. Since I am not always near an outlet to plug in, I think they should at least have a heftier battery with this GREAT computer. The webcam software is poor considering the great performance of this computer. The speakers perform like a Harman/kardon should. The placement of the USB ports need to be addressed! The ones located on the right side are so close to each other that it is not easy to plug in two devices at the same time. When devices are in the USB and the power cord is in the it is not easy to operate the CD/DVD bay. As all USB ports are located towards the front, USB devices and cords are always close to my wrists, so it is not easy to operate a table mouse nor to put things beside of the notebook, such as books, papers, etc. Some ports on the back of the notebook as previous models would have made this great computer even better.

4 Star Review   ToshibaDirect.com

I bought A665-S6065 and it's working very good. High performance, nice design. HarmanKardon stereo system, All this nice, But it's bit problem with camera and mic. Also I searched for gsm modem, at the back side under the battery there is a slot for sim card. ? I can't Understand. for why that is.

The overall look of the machine is ok and its performance is good WHEN it works. I used it for about a month and it froze on me for no reason at least 4 times and rebooted itself while I was typing! When it hang there is nothing I can do, it is not even reponding to Alt-Ctr-Del. I was just checking mail. And the mail has only text, nothing special. I don't know if I am just unlucky and got a bad copy. Tech support is hard to reach, too. I also don't like the power plug on the right side, it interferes with mouse when plugged in.

Good notebook but some cons arise
4 Star Review   ToshibaDirect.com

I have to admit this is a good notebook in general terms. However, I found some cons that should have been taken into account when designing this notebook. Firstly, it is the placement of the USB ports. The ones located on the right side are so close to each other that it is not easy to plug in two pendrives at the same time: they push each other. Eventhough, when my pendrives and the power cord (also on the right side) are plugged in it is not easy to operate the CD/DVD bay. As all USB ports are located towards the front, USB devices and cords are always close to my wrists, so it is not easy to operate a table mouse nor to put things aside of the notebook, such as books, papers or just a cup of coffee. Unfortunately, the placement of the network port is also towards the front so it is the same problem. I think they should have placed some ports on the back of the notebook, as they did with previous models. Secondly, it is the material applied to the surface on the screen. As to the frame surrounding the screen, it is too sensible. I tried cleaning my fingertips and some ambient dust with a makeup brush and a piece of cotton, and I found some scratches remained there after that. I can't believe the surface is so sensible that there is no easy way to clean it. As to the screen, I found it is the same material as the toshiba notebook I had before, so I didn't attempt to clean it because I know there is no way to clean it w/o making scratches on it. Also, same as my previous notebook, I have to turn off all lights behind me when working on the notebook because the screen is extremely bright. I didn't have that issue with my notebooks at job: Lenovo Thinkpad and Dell Latitude. Lastly, when I press the Touchpad ON/OFF button the plastic surrounding it moves down cause it is not so strong; also when I move the notebook from one place to another I hear some noises indicating the plastic components are not pretty fixed in place. On the other hand I am truly satisfied with the performance of the notebook, and found the sound from the builtin speakers is really great.

Love the performance. Minor complaints.
4 Star Review   ToshibaDirect.com

I have had the A665-S6065 for about a week now. So far, the performance is excellent. The adapter that comes with it is way too big (looks like something from ancient laptop days). But it is 2 prong, making it more extension cord friendly. Also the battery is way too small (6 cell). The 16" is a pretty good size. And it's not too heavy for what it was built to accomplish. The eco option is a plus. However, no OS CD and driver CD. Seems like some laptops are being shipped that way these days. Way too much unnecessary software; would have preferred it to be on a separate CD rather than installed into the system. The backlit keyboard (white light - nice choice) is great and they are pretty comfortable and quiet; just wish the FN options keys were backlit too on the keyboard. The system is surprisingly quiet. The arrow keys are somewhat small. Spacebar is smaller but no hindrance to usage and comfort. Although there is a number pad on the keyboard, it does not make it feel oversized. The screen is beautiful. The webcam software is poor considering the level of this machine. The video and images are pixelated and unclear. The sound is natural and strong. 4 USB ports/eSATA is a major plus - excellent! However the placement of the 2 right USB ports seems poor considering that they would have been better toward the back end of the right side of the laptop instead of towards the front. Fingerprint reader, media remote, and dummy media card would have been nice. Looks like the hard drive might be upgradeable; but it may not be... all in all, great laptop. Just make sure you have liberal access to an outlet.

Pretty good lap top
4 Star Review   ToshibaDirect.com

This is a great laptop, very fast ! But..... no firewire to import video with ? It comes with both memory bays loaded with 2 Gigs instead of just one bay with a 4 Gig so that you can upgrade it to eight without replacing both slots ? It freezes on hibernation ? Works great with Windows 7 Professional but comes with the home version ? Powercord brand new is peeling apart ? Is there a pattern here ? Anyway it's overclocked and very fast, although it does seem to run a little hot. 720 P picture does look good even if it isn't 1080. Speakers are very nice so it does make a great CD player , kind of big though?
